This is the third time I have watched this video and each time I watch it I learn more about how to fish the Carolina Rig. Mark does a great job of explaining how to rig and use it for the best results. To be honest, I have used it with mixed results, mainly because I have been fishing it too fast and am guilty of using too big of a hook, when I didn't need to. After watching this video for the 3rd time I can 't wait to put his suggestions to work this fishing season.
That's why when you use braid on a Carolina rig you use at least a 6 ft long leader tied directly to the braided line and then you add the weight, then the bead, then a swivel, then a 1 ft to 2 ft secondary leader line to the other end of that swivel, then you add your hook. I use braided line with a monofilament leader and I use a Carolina rig on it and I've been fishing for 25 years and never had a problem with the braided line as long as I use at least a 6 ft long leader. That being said 4 strand braid tends to be more abrasion resistant than 8 strand braid. And this is because 4 strand braid is made out of 4 thick strands of fiber woven together whereas 8 strand braid is made out of 8 very thin strands of fiber wolven together so you can pull off a Carolina rig with braid you just have to do it properly.
Mark, thank you for making this informative video. I do agree with you on certain situations one is better off using lead weights. Looking for to viewing another video. Best regards, Bob
Sweet video, I’ve got to try this in the summer time on my over-pressured home lake. Seems like an effective way to fish for schooling bass in groups on a hot day when things are moving slow. Very helpful tips.
Been using for 30 years on Arkansas lakes. Should have shown how easy it is to throw a 7 foot leader. Using the whip action like fly fishing, letting the weight do most of the work when casting. Great lesson on Carolina rig.
Good video. Here's a good C-rig tip if you're going to be fishing rocks. Buy Bass casting sinkers and cut the wire line ties off. Use them like you would the egg sinker with the small end first. They get hung up way less than egg sinkers do in rocks.
Great instructional video one of the best I've seen on Carolina fishing. This man really knows his business I learned a lot watching this, there was some great explanations of what and why to do things while Carolina fishing. Thanks Mark ‼️
As much as i fish a carolina rig i think it will beat a jig anyday its put countless fish in our boat its really helping me on me and dads tournements! Great video!
Now fellow fishermen this is what it is this host is a real fisherman I,ve seen him explaining with a spinning and a bait caster most on here is always talking about a damn baitcaster they Don't realize every heat on here don't want to here are see the host only dealing with one fishing set up I do both if I see you don't bring both into play then I don't get into your channel this host I will watch for he is Omni fisherman baitcasters are not the only reels to take fish matter of fact I,am a spinner guy but I own and use 4 baitcasters but when everything is on the line my spinners come first thank guy for this video keep up the good classes
Thanks brother, I am life long saltwater bottom fisher. Just started the fresh water Bass game, I have yet to use the Carolina rig or dropshot.... i am doing Carolina rig tomorrow, it is similar to the salt water bottom fishing I have done
Mr Jay I just want to let you know the my kids and I watch your video and you are so good an explaining everything that we learn so much from you thank you for sharing what you know abut fish my boys and me just start fishing don't know to much but we love fishing we are the fishon guys thanks again
excellent video, I will use Carolina for the first time in my next expedition. I only wanna know the difference between Carolina and split shot, I know the difference, but not about the effect, I think is basically the same thing. can you tell me the Carolina advantage? greetings from Spain.
thanks for that quote for i've use lead for over forty years and never had big problems that is just a money thing if you become a line watcher also makes the different keep your money in your pockets
Hi. Can't get a lot for the Gent's accent. I wonder if carolina rig can be used for presentation of wet or nymph flies by spinning rod and if it will be effective to catch something on the flies.
i think he is trolling Aaron Martins by using all those palomar knots with fluorocarbon, LOL. Another tip is to buy egg weights in the saltwater isle of your local store if it has one. they are sometimes half the price! I like the pre-rigged carolina weights more than anything now. They seem to get hung less on stumps. Also, a stiff rod with a fairly stiff tip helps a ton on stump filled lakes. Falcon used to make the "Lizard Dragger" specifically for Lake Fork, Toledo Bend, and Rayburn. It was fantastic. Too soft of a tip lets your line dig into the wood as you drag your weight over it getting hung more often.
Fluoro is so crazy expensive I won't use it anymore. Have had, and continue have great success with mono. If I was a pro, I'd drop coin on my gear. As a recreational fisherman. Uh uh.
Yes, I catch fish on the Carolina rig in all seasons. Shallow/deep, cold or warm water. It can work in shallow grass and deep structure. Very versatile by changing weight and leader lengths, as well as adjusting retrieve speed to your conditions.
I watched this whole video and the only thing you don't tell us is, exactly WHAT is a Carolina rig!😅 Gonna have to find another vid, to show me what it is. Still gave you a thumbs up, as there was plenty helpful advice.
the point of the rig is to "float" the lure behind the leader. fluoro sinks and kills this action. you wan't your bait to suspend and then fall as slowly as possible as you drag it along. mono works better for this.
Absolutely! If you know the lake well enough, you can find some good spots to throw it and probably have good luck. I've rarely let bank fishing deter me from using/trying other methods. The only thing I don't do much from the bank is run crankbaits. If I use a crank from the bank, it's a pretty shallow running crank.
Yes! High possibility of getting stuck depending on the area But the thing I like about fishing it from shore is that it helps you determine depth as well as the bottom
Appreciate you spreading the seed of knowledge, you got the perfect hillbilly accent for these videos lol. Even if it weren't gold that accent would convince half of your viewers.
I know it's way different, but I reckon this would be fantastic for fishing for flat fish in salt water from the beach, twitching a worm soft plastic back to shore.....
Good video lots of good information in it. ruclips.net/video/O2ghPvkoUIs/видео.html is a link to Watch Cole's Carolina rig shortcut video a tutorial for a homemade Carolina rig short cut. This type of shortcut solves three of the problems with the c-rig 1. Stops the sliding up and down the line that damages the line. 2. stops the fish from pulling the line through the sinker creating slack when you hook set 3. uses worm sinkers that don't get hung up as much as the barrel sinkers...
Good luck? Why question a guy that has been doing it for so many years and catching so many fish with it! If you cant cast it and make it work i can understand but dont question the Pro!
That fellow right there is one of the best in the business and to take the time to explain every detail
beast mode

Oh yeah, Mark is the man I want to teach me about the Carolina Rig, No Doubt👍👍👍👍
That is hands down one of the most informative RUclips fishing videos I've ever seen. I'm subscribing.

Ever heard of using some kind of a metal bead? Not sure what's out there, but that might make some cool clicks and no risk chipping and cutting line.
Nice job. Best advice and explanation on Carolina Rig fishing I have ever seen. Thank you Mark !
Great instructional video one of the best I've seen on Carolina fishing. This man really knows his business I learned a lot watching this, there was some great explanations of what and why to do things while Carolina fishing. Thanks Mark ‼️
Man, i have learned very much from you. Thank you! Greetings from Switzerland.
As much as i fish a carolina rig i think it will beat a jig anyday its put countless fish in our boat its really helping me on me and dads tournements! Great video!
Thank you - This is the detail information I was looking for.

Thank you sharing theses informations about carolina rig and fishing bass. A fisherman from Canada
Great video, I don’t use this rig near enough. Time to start throwing it more now! Thanks!
Thanks brother, I am life long saltwater bottom fisher. Just started the fresh water Bass game, I have yet to use the Carolina rig or dropshot.... i am doing Carolina rig tomorrow, it is similar to the salt water bottom fishing I have done
Well said from a legend, but I’m stumped. How do you tie a Polimar knot on both sides of swivel.
Answered all my questions. Thanks Mark 👍
Truth bombs right and left by a legendary angler.
Loop knot for your hook works great on all soft plastics
Good stuff Mark!!! What’s our opinion on Carolina pre-rigs. They totally eliminate damaged main line problems.
Mr Jay I just want to let you know the my kids and I watch your video and you are so good an explaining everything that we learn so much from you thank you for sharing what you know abut fish my boys and me just start fishing don't know to much but we love fishing we are the fishon guys thanks again
Yes great video. I'm like a lot of you guys wondering what leader length to use.
Great Explanation from wonderful fisherman who does not need decaf.
Thanks, I have always questioned my length of the leaders.
Great video, help me understand how to use the Carolina rig and when to use it.
I've always been a huge fan of Mark Davis.. Great info man thanks for sharing
excellent video, I will use Carolina for the first time in my next expedition. I only wanna know the difference between Carolina and split shot, I know the difference, but not about the effect, I think is basically the same thing. can you tell me the Carolina advantage?
greetings from Spain.
Pablo Cruz When a fish picks up a Carolina rig versus a split shot, the weight stays on the bottom they don't feel the weight as easily.
Great video Mark, good luck this year on the circuit!
thanks for that quote for i've use lead for over forty years and never had big problems that is just a money thing if you become a line watcher also makes the different keep your money in your pockets
Great video--good info--Thanks mark and Jay!
Thank you, Mark & Jay!!
Good simple video, thanks 👍

The wiley veteran...gotta love it!
Great vid brother, thanks for putting this out.
Have you ever used coploymer fishing line an what do you think about it?
I'm not sure I want to be in the same boat with a fellow throwing a 7 foot leader -- Good Video all in all...
The leader are thrown over your head, and don't come anywhere near anyone else. I been using 7 foot leaders same number of years he has.
Good job thanks I will try this for sure next time I fish 👍
Hello Mr. Davis,
What's your favorite 20lb florocarbon that you like to use with the Carolina Rig?
Thanks in advance,
Rick (from Chicago)
Outstanding video!!!! thank you very much!!!!
Interesting video........some good tips......
Might have missed it, but what is the leader line? I've heard mono since it floats and helps the bait glide like you said about the hook.
Yes mono!
Thanks brother. Very good video
Good tips buddy I appreciate you sharing
What a great explanation! This is the real deal.
i think he is trolling Aaron Martins by using all those palomar knots with fluorocarbon, LOL.

Mark good video God bless i learn something again.
In my experience a palomar knot is the worst knot for fluorocarbon. I went to a fluorocarbon knot that Shaw Grigsby showed me and I quit breaking off.
Fluoro is so crazy expensive I won't use it anymore. Have had, and continue have great success with mono. If I was a pro, I'd drop coin on my gear. As a recreational fisherman. Uh uh.
I also like mono...
Love the details bruh !
Great video. I'll give Mark's advice a try. Does this rig work in all seasons?
Yes, I catch fish on the Carolina rig in all seasons. Shallow/deep, cold or warm water. It can work in shallow grass and deep structure. Very versatile by changing weight and leader lengths, as well as adjusting retrieve speed to your conditions.

Great video
Thanks for the tip!!!!
One of my favorite pros
what brand flouracarbon do you use?
This man a legend
Good video
It sure is, Mark knows his stuff!
Who in the does a thumbs down on this video, Great info here!
Are you talking Flouracarbon for your "line" or "leader". You said line! Why not monofilament line with flouracarbon leader?
RS Marett Fluor main. the main line has to sink fast. mono leader to help float the hook up to fish feeding levels.
RS Marett flourocarbon has less stretch for a better hook set.
both, he says it at 9:15.
the point of the rig is to "float" the lure behind the leader. fluoro sinks and kills this action. you wan't your bait to suspend and then fall as slowly as possible as you drag it along. mono works better for this.
Great video keep making more videos God bless
Is Carolina rig suitable for bank fishing?
Absolutely! If you know the lake well enough, you can find some good spots to throw it and probably have good luck. I've rarely let bank fishing deter me from using/trying other methods. The only thing I don't do much from the bank is run crankbaits. If I use a crank from the bank, it's a pretty shallow running crank.
Thanks for the reply! I'll try this method this year. I usually fish Texas rig.
Yes! High possibility of getting stuck depending on the area
But the thing I like about fishing it from shore is that it helps you determine depth as well as the bottom
man thank you for your knowledge I'm new to the game but everything you said makes sense you just got yourself a new prescriber
This is Awesome
Thank you
Appreciate you spreading the seed of knowledge, you got the perfect hillbilly accent for these videos lol. Even if it weren't gold that accent would convince half of your viewers.
Why don't you use a carolina keeper instead of a swivel
Bobby Fresh I don't use them because they slip when they get hung up and when they slip they burn the line.
I know it's way different, but I reckon this would be fantastic for fishing for flat fish in salt water from the beach, twitching a worm soft plastic back to shore.....
Yup, lead is forgiving. Tungsten isn't.
Good video lots of good information in it. ruclips.net/video/O2ghPvkoUIs/видео.html is a link to Watch Cole's Carolina rig shortcut video a tutorial for a homemade Carolina rig short cut. braid is hideous in rocks.
Then that 7 foot leader helicopters through the air. Too long for me.
Works like a whip, start in front of you, concentrate on the weight not line, same as a fly rod.
sorry Mr Mark
good luck casting a 7 foot leader
14 foot rod... it's easy.
Try drifting - It works & no casting. With a light breeze you can cover miles of water in a days fishing
Good luck? Why question a guy that has been doing it for so many years and catching so many fish with it! If you cant cast it and make it work i can understand but dont question the Pro!
Videography is sub...cant see
