Quick word about the Beep Test... There are many different versions of the Beep Test Audio which can range GREATLY in difficulty. Be careful comparing the score you get from one version of the beep test to the score you, or another person, get with a different version. The main idea behind fitness tests is to either compare the fitness levels to other people who are doing the exact same test and version as you or to gauge your improvement over time. I'm not saying that I don't believe that 12 year old Jimmy scored 16.2 on his beep test in middle school haha, but it probably wasn't the same beep test or same distance as this one. My advice is to either stick with the beep test audio that you've been using to track your own improvement against yourself or to try out this specific audio and distance to compare yourself to me.
We have to do this at school all the time it is basically the same thing with your whole gym class. I always beat everybody😊(about a 100 people) and I try to maintain that as a goal (:
Can’t lie I hate the bleep rest. My team does it about every month or two, before lockdown. I average in the early 13s last time I got level 13.3 (20m) bleep rest.
To record everything and show what you do to be the best possible in your profession is extremely smart. Your coaches and the whole organization you represent will notice the hard work you put in and realize that their investment on you was the right choice. The fact that coaches from other teams show your drills for their players is one proof of that. You are are a true professional and keep inspiring people!
You are very inspiring to us young players in these unprecedented times and I’ll definitely take in your tips during my journey and while documenting which I’m already on my channel, so thanks 🙌😁
I am just watching and I can't believe how much you have improved over the last couple of years. The improvement can especially be seen on the second drill, how much sharper you are, how much cleaner your dribblings are comparing to Germany for example. You are nothing less than pure motivation.THANKS MATT!
Really enjoyed this video man , I have to agree with you that I don't really think the beep test is very soccer specific. I think the yoyo intermittent test better mimics a game of football test wise and it requires very little equipment also. This is the test my college used and it was a fairly decent indicator of players fitness and I still use it today. Great to see that you are doing what you can to train and the drills you are doing don't require a lot of space or equipment which I think is ideal for all us players right now!
My college team does a ruthless fitness test I think you would like. You have 8 minutes to run 5 laps around a standard track, the catch is you have to take a 1 minute and 30 second rest before the final lap. The idea is to tire you out with the first mile at around 5:30 then a small break before a fast pace last lap at around 1 minute.
its really funny hearing you call it the BEEP test in England and clubs I've played for abroad we have always called it the BLEEP and now its all I can notice is how weird when you call it beep! it's funny how around the world we have the same thing but say/do things slightly different
Have you tried the 15-15 fitness test? The goal is to make it from one cone to the other (120m distance from cone to cone or anything to mark it) in 15 seconds. Once you arrive at the other end, take a 15s rest and come back. Around 8 runs in a row is 1 set. Doing 2 complete sets with 3 min. rest in between sets in really good. Let me know what you think!
Hey bro I just saw this comment, 120m 😂 It’s called the MAS/Euro Fitness test and 120m in 15 seconds?? That’s near impossible for the average footballer to even complete on the first rep, let alone 8 reps 😂 I do this all the time but I do roughly a range from 80-90m.
Just for the record, 7mlc beep test is 16.1, well maybe Sheldon hold back since he still trained after lol. Would like to see Tweedie tho bet he will have a score of 9 in the beep test
@black man @Become Elite doesnt matter, since matt is a MLS , USL level player , search up the atletico madrid beep test , Diego Costa got something like 10.5 , doesnt mean he isnt world class.
@@daconvertiblebaby69 yes its real, you can see a couple of players like morata, angel correa, costa and a few others that dropped out at around 10 to 11 and mind you they are playing in one of the best teams in the world
That’s awesome to hear Matt that other coaches in the usl see your videos and recommend them to their players. I would think that when you don’t have a team (hoping that never happens) they kind of see you and have a firm belief in your game. What do you think ?
My club makes us get to 22 on the Man United test the first day of training and if you don’t make it you have to go three days in a row in the morning do the test again and at night do team training.
love this vids matt! but like you should really link the background music you use in your drills, finding songs strictly based on their rhythm isn’t the easiest thing😂
Hey Matt, have you ever done the 150 M shuttle run test? 5 cones ( 5 m apart ) 25 M out in total. 30 seconds on 30 seconds off x 6. You run to each cone then back to the start and then to the next. You calculate your total distance over the 6 runs then. It’s brutally hard
In NK Osijek from Croatia we did test, put cones every 5 meters, you sprint 5 m, jog 5 m, sprint 10 m, jog 10 m and go for 50 m, and start again with 5 meters.
Wonderful Matt, just wonderful !! I reeeeeeeeaalllly enjoyed the talking about the tests and stuff.. really helpful !! Finally, congrats for the certification you really deserve it !! Keep it up brother.. we love you !!
So much emphasis was put on our beep test in college. Then players who essentially failed it with like level 11 would still get playing time over more for players 🤷🏼♂️ looking back being overly fit was overrated, wish I spent more time training decision making under pressure - 14-1 is a quality score! I ranged 13-15 when I played
Level 14? Wow! Tried the exact same Beep Test this morning and it is HARD. Not the distance/intensity - just the SPEED. You have to keep running/turning so quickly. I was done by Level 7.
Yeah, so we do Zoom team workouts 2x a week, Zoom Tactical sessions 2x a week, Beep Test runs twice a week, Weigh in and out every day, but as far as the soccer training goes that's all up to us and what we have available. Mostly guys have been getting individual sessions like in this video, playing juggling games or soccer tennis at tennis courts, or doing some ball mastery stuff in their homes.
Could you please make a video about everything you have learned about a healthy nutrition? I want to get better as a player and I want to make sure I’m having the correct nutritional information. I have a lean protein diet with chicken and try to have a decent amount of carbs. Is that bad?
Oh wow, we did a similar test in elementary school. It was called "The Pacer Test". But it was quite different. I think the distance was the length of a volleyball court and good scores were over 60. (public school in Illinois)
Would you say that doing those long distance fitness tests help to first build a base level of fitness that way you can work on tougher interval training?
Another Great video Matt! Very motivating for us all. Do you think the beep test is slightly flawed? I see it as a great way to see how fit one is... but as it speeds up, your natural pace comes into play meaning if 2 players with the same level fitness but one was faster, the faster player should last longer no? What’s your opinion on this? 👊🏾⚽️
Yes and no... I definitely think that your line of thinking makes sense, but even once you get up to the 14, 15, and 16 levels I don't there is any pro player out there that's running even close to their top sprint speed. Also if you look at the best beep test scores done by professional footballers (though most are unconfirmed), the players that do the best aren't the fastest most athletic players. They are players like David Beckham, Lee Gong Dook, and Tim Brown. Same in my own professional teams, it's not usually the case that the fastest players do the best.
Become Elite ahh okay that’s a good point! You don’t ever really full on hit a sprint when doing beep test. But thanks for the reply mate, good to see the perspective from a pro athlete 💪🏾
How would you recommend that a picky eater (high school age) changes their diet when they don’t like trying new foods, their diet has very little protein or meat and is mostly carbs? I think that my game would be really improved if I changed my diet, because then I would do better in the gym, which is my main weakness Thanks Matt!!

I really cant believe how supporting your Gf is. She goes along you every workout and helps you on everything
Who else does this at school? It might be called the pacer test?
I do something called a Yo-Yo (Intermittent) Test at my college.
Different names for the test though.
same concept but it’s slightly different
Nicholas Kozdron yo-yo test is different to the beep test though
Ya we do it what score did you get
Yo i went about 80 times, 25 yards each way at my middle school. (it started slow then got to a sprint)
Been rocking those CR7 futsal shoes ~since Germany days~ and theys till haven't worn out haha i love this guy!

Hope you are doing well bro , stay safe etc , love you bro , your content is awesome 🐐⚽️❤️
Hi I just subscribed to your Chanel like a week or too ago and you’ve helped me a bit
I did the exact same one (pretty notorious in Australia) And made 14.3 in grade 9. Pretty cool to know in that area I somewhat match with a pro!
I Did it today and got 15.6
I did 24 I'm in grade 8
Ur not. U definitely did not do the 20M one

Love the music behind your drills on this one
When the music stop when your were doing that drill 12:00 and mess up for a bit o was dying.

About the bleep test, it’s supposed to help to keep swapping legs when you turn to prevent fatigue on the one leg you’re turning on.
Congrats on being a nutrition coach Matt 🥳👏
Please make more fitness test we can use on ourself to assess us
