I have always loved this Icon, of an image. I have a daughter born in 1979, and this was very popular during that time. I’m going to start a few small baby/youth quilts for my ‘hopeful’ great-grandchildren. Happy sewing/quilting!
I had my first beautiful baby in 1979, I made her a beautiful Holly hobbie pram quilt, everyone stopped to admire her and the stunning quilt, she's 45 now and living in America with her own family, a long way from her home in Ireland, thanks.
By the way I forgot to tell you that you inspired me to get my Featherweight out and cleaned and oiled! Sews like a champ and she’s 88 years old. She belonged to my great grandmother, then my mother now me! Thank you! I don’t think you know how much your channel means to me! I call you my quilting friend!
Oh my gosh I just LOVGE everything you do. I do not know why you dont have a million subscribers. I have watched every quilter on RUclips I think.. You are my absolute favorite. I think you are so gifted. I love what you do. I love how you keep it frugal and simple.
Sunbonnet Sue, Farmer Bill, and even cats in Bonnets,. Wow memories are flashing! Taught my 80 Year old M other in Law to do applique, and she made her grandson one! I In 1994, I still have that same pattern! Hmm I'm getting some age on me! It is so fun to do the Sunbonnet Sue!
My great-grandmother made me a Sunbonnet Sue quilt, I was 10 years old. I've always cherished it.
You've inspired me to make this for my great-granddaughters, I have 5 right now. I
I love the embroidery stitching, as I'm not great at applique.
Thanks🙏🌹🥰
Wow, that brings back memories. When my 54 year old daughter was very small, I made her a Sun Bonnet Sue and Overall (?) Sam quilt. It was fun to make and she still has it. Lots of tiny pieces. No heat n bond back then.
Your embroidery looks terrific!
Great job!!
Hermoso resultado. Al final no se distingue la diferencia entre el tuyo y los originales. Ya quiero ver tu quilt armado ❤️
Wow Beth, no one will ever know that you had to add a block, this turned out so well and it’s going to be beautiful. I love this. Have a lovely Sunday, 🥰 Chris
That was my mom’s favorite quilt block. I have some of her pieces to still put together and blocks she gave me and a pink sheet for the back fabric. Years ago when my mom used to quilt in the 70’s she used cardboard and I have her magazines and some of them have her cardboard templates.
You did a wonderful job! I’m sure the original quilter would be pleased that you’re finishing her work. I hope to one day finish my mom’s. She’s only been gone two years. Hopefully soon so everyone could enjoy seeing her work 💐. Thank you for the inspiration.
Loved seeing this video. I have the Sunbonnet Sue quilt that my grandmother made for me when I was a young girl. She also made the block with the boy in overalls. She embellished each block with extra embroidery, like a dog, a fishing pole, a wheelbarrow, etc. I don't know how she found the time to do this as busy as she was on the farm! Great memories today.
Those are the sweetest little blocks! I love how the black embroidery makes the little girls pop.
They are so adorable. Can't wait to see them set in a quilt. Thanks for sharing!

What another wonderful thrifty find for you Beth! I just love them and the way they were appliqued! You did a great job in matching the ones that you found. Please post a video of the quilt when it is finished!
Sunbonnet Sue is one of my favorites. Yours matches very well. So cute.
Thank you very much. God bless you for sharing.
I've already watched this video once or twice but I'm watching it again Beth. I can't help myself girl. You ROCK❣👍🥰😍
Wow, thank you!
They are so cute. It's a shame that there weren't more of them. Love how easy it was for you to copy the pattern. I really enjoy how you tackle all that you come up with. Thanks, I so enjoy your videos.
My Mom and i made a sunbonnet sue together--I cut out the pieces and she needleturned them...we named it "The
Dollies Quilt" for a present for my daughter;))This brings back so many fun memories. I like the bonnet decorations...
hugs, Julierose
I’m a young mother teaching herself vintage quilting techniques these videos sure do help!! A lost American tradition
Memories! I spent a month with my best friend’s family in the summer of 1975. Her mom was making a Sunbonnet Sue quilt for the county fair and had us girls help her. It was my first experience quilting.
Maravilhoso

We inherited a lot of these quilt blocks from my husbands grandmother. I have since made 4 quilts, they are gorgeous and so precious!
I love that block! That will be a sweet little quilt when you finish it. Make sure you show us the finished product!
Is there anything you cannot do? You never cease to amaze me, Beth. You rock x
Hi. Great for you...Thank you from Texas.

What a great find Beth. Such pretty blocks and great to see you replicate an extra one using traditional methods. I haven't seen applique finishes like this either but great job. I'm pleased we have heat and bond type products to use now😅♥️🇦🇺
Beth, another great video. I loved how you used the window to outline the patterns. Old School method definitely has its place. I've watched your RUclips "views" and "like"s grow over the years. You certainly deserve it!! I'm waiting for your next video!
Deena Graham 💝✂️ I discovered a way to sew faster and easier even as a beginner, I talk more about it in my channel, I hope it helps those who need it.
Can't wait to see what you are going to make today 🙌
I am like a little girl in a doll store 😇
Looking forward to see the way you make things, what knowledge, Thank for sharing with us
I was in a trance from the first minute! This was just wonderful how you made your pattern and all the steps that followed! I would never have thought to press around the cardboard shape! I just love how you did this! Super job! Thanks for showing us all your thought processes! It looks like the other blocks and your fabric choices are a great match! I hope you will show us your finished quilt. Thanks!
❤️❤️❤️I love Sue so much. Appliqué my favorite! I’ve done this very thing on quilts I found at ..where ever..yard sales, estate sales. Over the years I have made patterns using the window to copy. So fun to watch this..another great video!
7 out of 30. Oh well. You certainly made sweet lemonade! I think you did such a beautiful job with yours. Actually I am glad your personal one is in there since you are saving what otherwise may have gone in the trash. You are a true quilter after my own heart. I save such items and upcycle too. ❤️
I love Sunbonnet Sue. I made 21 blocks and all were hand embroidered. I lost them before finishing the top in a move. It broke my heart, and I couldn’t pick up a needle & thread again for years! Finally, this year I am relearning to sew and I am just now finishing my third quilt. Thank you for your videos, you are so inspiring.
Amazing ! Adorable! Thank you for a fun video.
Salam, I am one of your followers from Algeria, a wonderful work that deserves appreciation. I love these wonderful works of art, and I wish you success and appreciation 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿
Wow, Beth! You are always up for the challenge!! This is a great find, can't wait until see what other blocks you put with these! Thank you for sharing your talent and perseverance! Love your videos!
These blocks are so adorable, a old but very sweet block. Look forward to seeing your next video finishing it off. Thanks for sharing.👍❤️😊
Someone appliqued this quilt using this exact Sunbonnet Sue pattern when my mother was born in 1930. It was never quilted, unfortunately, until I was born in 1953. I still have it and it's such a treasure. Wish I had a daughter to pass it down to. Thank you for bringing back such good memories.
Such a wonderful find. Your block matches and looks really pretty. Look forward to see what you pair them with. X
I purchased a Sunbonnet Sue pattern book a long time ago… you have inspired me to get my book out and choose one and make some blocks ❤️
Me too!
Sweet make over for sunbonnet sue I'm sure all these pieces will look sweet in a quilt.
Thank you for saving the quilt blocks! They must be happy. Reminds me of the gothic cathedrals. One generation started it and another finished it.
Very nice 😊 Your block matches very well. Thanks for bringing us along. I look forward to seeing the completion of this quilt.
You are so good at crafting! Inspiring all who observe you at work, wonderful work Beth!
Very nicely demonstrated. Your Sunbonnet Sue came out great and matches well with the other blocks.
My quilting project just keeps getting longer and longer! Thank you for the great ideas.
Sun bonnet sue is a favorite of mine, just wasn’t sure that I could accomplish it. But with the ease of watching you, I believe I have chance. Thank you so much for this tutorial your recreation of the block is awesome! 😊
Deja vu! Wow, Beth! I can’t say anything other commenters haven’t already! Amazing & thank you, not only for nostalgia but for sharing your knowledge and talent! 🥰
I was writing to tell you all about my three generation quilt (twin size) like that and POOF it was gone. Too tired to rewrite except to say it was made by grandma, mom and me. Grandma born in 1890s, mom 1914 and me 1953. Gma appliqued, mom put quillt together and handquilted and I did the binding. Plus I have lots of blocks and her paper patterns.
I have a sunbonnet quilt top my Grandma made probably 60 years ago. A couple of them need repair. Very special.
Very cute Block , Beth u did an awesome job copying that block 👏🏼 your voice n work is always calm n teaching . Love ur style 👏🏼🥳🥳
I’ve always wanted to do a Sunbonnet Sue Quilt. They are so cute. Thank you Beth.
This pattern is almost identical to the one in 101 quilt patterns. By Ruby McKim. Older soft cover book , but might be found as reprint @ amazon. I've had the book for almost 50 yrs., used so many times. Used patterns as is, changed sizes, changed settings, etc.!,etc. First made the sunbonnets when G., Mother taught me to hand applique when 9. She cut them free hand, every one doing a different activity. Wish I still had that quilt. Used an old flannel blanket as batt, old precale sheet as back. I'm just turned 77. Wow... long time ago & still making quilts.
I like the look of the running stitch in black, makes it look older than perhaps it is.
This is so cute!! I've never heard of a "Sunbonnet Sue", but I know I'd like to have a go and maybe add it onto a simple summer bag ❤️ Love it, thank you 🇬🇧 xx
This is SO cute❕
Very clever to use the window 👍

Great job Enjoy your sewing room projects. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🙏
Cute. I still have my great grandma’s quilt of sun bonnet sue by her hands probably in 1950s.
I love Sunbonnet Sue - I even have a quilt book of her (12 quilts inside) but not made one yet. Thanks for reminding me what a lovely cute block it is. You did a good matching job 😍
Beautiful thank you for sharing. God bless you and your family.
I remember my grandmother made this quilt and it made me fall in love with quilting 💗
I wonder if the tag meant that the blocks were 30s blocks, since the fabrics were 30s style. That is an unusual way to appliqué, but I like the effect. Your little lady fits in perfectly. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Such a cherished old block Thank you
I have made six of these Sunbonnet Sue quilts, so much fun! I used reproduction 1930 fabrics. I have a quilt book with this pattern and I have collected other books with other sizes of Sue, so cute! Hope to make some of the other designs someday. Good luck with yours it will be so pretty. ❤️
May I please ask the name of your Sun Bonnet Sue book, with the many different sizes!? I'd love to make one but I prefer the smaller sizes. 🙂
I absolutely loved the Irish chain style block Laura from SewVeryEasy did for her old collection of Sun Bonnet Sue blocks.
Wow!!! You are very resourceful!!!! Good job!!!!😀😀‼️
How sweet! Can’t wait to see the next stage!
Hello! Such a darling quilt block! I just got my first chance to sit down and watch as I was out and about today. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Thank you for sharing this video and your talent.
Looks great.I have a whole set of Sunbonnet Sue blocks done. They were done like 20 years ago but the blocks are not square. Back then I didn’t know what I was doing and didn’t have a good way to square them up. Now I do. Maybe when I get a break in the action of my normal quilting, I will go back and finish those up. Thanks for sharing! I love and appreciate what you post.
Beth you did a wonderful job. I am amazed at how close your material choices matched the originals. Please make sure and show the quilt when you get it finished! I would love to see it. I just love your channel. Thank you so much for the time you take in making and editing your videos. I did a Sunbonnet Sue many years ago for my daughter and did 12 of them going through the month. The one for her birthday month had a cake and candles. March, my birthday falls on Saint Patricks Day and I put Sue in a green dress and green Shamrocks in the grass, Sue was a bride the month my daughter got married and pushing a baby carrage the month she had her baby. it was delightful. That was 21 years ago. Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories for me.
Great work I think you have inspired us all such a beautiful block thank you again for your tutorials 😀
I love that heavy appliqué stitch, I have used it before.

The sun is shining and I’ve found a new video from you 🎉🤩 What a perfect way to start a Sunday morning 😊 I don’t usually like appliqué but then I’d never seen it done like this before - and I love it 🥰 Thanks Beth 👏👏🇬🇧
Oh Beth, that is so lovely and I am sure it will make a beautiful Quilt Thank you for sharing with us xx
These quilt blocks are adorable, and you did a really nice job of matching your to them! Thanks for sharing………….
Thoroughly enjoyed your solution to complete the quilt top. Needle turn applique.
Beautiful. I love sunbonnet Sue. And you made this seem easy and achievable. So I will have a bash at a cushion. Thank you.
That came out so beautiful, I have never done this kind of applique so I will have to try, thank you for the great tutorial ❤️.
hi beth it is nice to find something like this in a market and you answer to made one more is more interesting. hi from mexioc city
Nita Sale of Meridian, Idaho, used the solid blocks to quilt various gentlemen, showing the different beard styles of the late 19th, early 20th centuries. It was a beautiful quilt 😀. I like the material you chose for this block
Sunbonnet Sue! Such nostalgia in those blocks! You did great matching them! Wonder if others will even be able to tell? Would love to see finished project! Thanks for sharing!
I have this pattern from my grandmother, only it's called Little Dutch Girl. I also got the male version known as Fisherman Fred
Really love forward to your videos ad this one is one of my faves. You are a wonderful teacher. Thanks so much
That you for that video. It's been helpful to me as I'm making an Overall Bill block. It's a fun project.
Sunbonnet Sue is always a favorite. You did a really good job creating a matching block 👍🏼
Wow. You nailed it! So stinking cute.
I love this block and you did great making one to match
Made this pattern many years ago and needle turned all my seams by hand. Didnt have sew n bond back then. That quilt was passed around thru out the family for years lol
Thank You for this video 😍 I love Sunbonnet Sue😍
I have a top from the 1930's in this pattern . It has huge Sunbonnets . The top drapes over my queen size bed . Been thinking about cutting the blocks smaller . It also has two blocks for shams. Each Due has a different fabric print with a solid hat to match . So fun to look at ! I also do hand needle turn applique . No need to be perfect with that and I love the black stitching around. Old aprons can be a source for the fabric I have a lot but hate to cut them up .
You have some wonderful Rummage Sales where you are. They may have been made by different people in the same family. I noticed that the bonnets were in greens and in lavenders. You did a good job of making one that looks a lot like the others. I like the way the black thread outlines the Sunbonnet Sues. When I was in first grade, I was taught to take my black crayon and outline my picture before I colored it. First grade for me was 68 years ago. Outlining in black always made the pictures look better. I have seen applique made like this before. I have never made one. Thank you for this video.
AMAZING!!!! Love your attention to detail and respect to the previous quilter
Thank you for sharing your beautiful find.
I used to make sunbonnet sue drawings, to paint on tshirts for my daughters when they were little. She’s co darn cute😄❤️🇦🇺
Great job!! You are absolutely, amazingly creative. Thanks, I enjoyed your video....
What a great way to use up some of my large and small scraps. I cannot WAIT to get started on a quilt of Sunbonnet Sue's !!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
I love this quilt! In going through some of my Mother’s UFO she has finished a number of Dresden plate blocks. I think I will use your idea to “copy” her block. I am afraid my fabric will stand out too much. Any ideas?
This was wonderful to watch. Tks so much. I have two old sunbonnet sue quilts to finish. I ca do it now.
Beautiful quilt block❣️
This is my all time favorite pattern, I have the accuquilt die for Sunbonnet Sue, but I always love to see how they are put together and the choices of fabric every one uses
@Wanda R. Hello. You're blessed to have that die for SunBonnet Sue. When I was new in the Church I volunteered in our Primary class to help raise funds for mission projects (Investment). Long story short, I didn't get the participation I had hoped for so I ended up making most of them myself, but never made the quilt. A few years later I donated them to another church who has a big Bazaar every two years and one of their members made a quilt from my blocks. They auctioned it off for mission funds. So it ended up being used for the purpose for which it was designed 😃 I really like the pattern & would enjoy making more, but after a surgery in March, my vision hasn't been normal, so I am not planning that. Maybe in the earth made new 💜 Blessings
@@TheStaffOfLife So nice to hear from you Catherine, I am also very involved in my church and also another church in our area that asked for strong prayer warriors that would be willing to lift prayers for a special program that reaches out to help others in the community. I love sewing and mostly cut my own pieces for blocks, but I do have 8 accu-quilt dies. to be able to use these for fun raisers would truly be a blessing.
Thx for writing! Sounds like you're a blessing all around. Nice! One of our churches across town has a quilt group who make them to bless others who are recommended or requested by members, etc. It'd be fun to be part of that. I was temporarily in a smaller town nearby in 2014 & the SDA church quilt group were making lap quilts as a project for a nearby nursing home. I made two tops. Working in a group is encouraging.
@@TheStaffOfLife When we use the abilities that God has given us, he makes a way to bless others and I give him all the glory. I would encourage you to do what you are able even the smallest things bless others and allows us to be used by God. I will keep you in my prayers. I enjoy your channel so much.
You're a precious soul...t.y. for your kind words & prayers.
I enjoy Lisa's channel, too... she's so talented & caring, & makes learning enjoyable.
Bless you, Wanda.
We are on Zoom with the Church, & my gifts are in the area of teaching & evangelism, & my creative talents are mostly practical (food prep). I've worked with young ppl for years, in the past. SS & VBS mostly. I need your prayers. Thx again 💜
Love that Block.
