I’m a white belt still, but for me Tani is one of these throws that I can pull of even on green belts, such a great tool to have in your arsenal

Nice useful takedown. Would be cool to see your take on some headlock and choke escapes in no gi 🙏

Great video. Hella useful take down, Its great to show judo being applied in all aspects of grappling and I personally find that Tani Otoshi's are super handy in no GI and MMA training as well

Cross grip tani otoshi. Finally I have a name for this! I hit this, and different sumei gaeshi variations, or switch to high-c, or use it to get an underhook and pinch headlock or a bunch of other things. This grip is really very high percentage. Oh you can get it from a failed shot when stuck in a front headlock and build back to your feet.

So do you plant the foot and bend the knee or do you drop your leg?

      You can do either

@@nickyonezuka-cranfordjkc4931 any risk of hurting your own knee this way? How do you minimize chance of knee getting hurt?

@@robvidalbjj IMO planting your foot is asking for your knees to be destroyed. Dropping legs real low makes the move much more safe. Some dojos have banned Tani otoshi outright cause of safety issues.
