Just picked up a 17' TRD off road last week. I really like the grille and blackout badging. I'm going to have to do that. I also want to upgrade the halogens to LED. Other than that, I love the stock off road rims and tires. And as bad ass as the 3'' lift looks, I'm not willing to compromise ride quality. This generation Tacoma is a fantastic upgrade. The cabin is so much quieter than my 14''. Best mid sized truck money can buy, hands down.
LOYALTOYOTA quick question How did you fit those 285s On the website they said that max tire size would be 265s Was there any cutting done Looks great ..
LOYALTOYOTA Is there any tire rubbing up front with this set up? Also, what is the height of the truck measured from bottom to top of roof, just want to ensure truck will fit into my garage once I add the same lift kit, wheels and tires on my 2016 Tacoma.
I definitely would not, under any circumstances, turn-in my Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport DBL Cab longbed 4x4 for any other manufacturers Vehicle! It wouldn't matter if they were giving them away for free, I wouldn't trade. Toyota has done me good from living up to there advertising about the Tacoma to the service, warranty and customer appreciation that they show. A real stand up Corporation with a customer service first attitude!
I plan to get the SR5 double cab with the long bed hopefully by the middle or end of this year. Magnetic grey paint, roof racks, black side steps and black trd rims! One hell of an upgrade from my old lady an 01 regular cab Taco with a 5 speed and a cool 220k miles!
I have watched this video like 1000 times......I just bought my 2017 trd sport black and have done the pro grille, trd pro wheels, pro shift knob, getting the black hood graphic today. On a side note the TRD rims are off the TRD pro 4Runner. I also am waiting for the weather so get warmer to black out the badges and install the red TRD emblem.....
Glad you’re a fan of the video. I realize they are TRD Pro 4Runner wheels...I had the same set on my own personal Tacoma. They are, nonetheless, TRD Pro wheels...just not Tacoma-based TRD. Thanks for watching!
LoyalDriven thank you for the response. I shared the info bc I almost made the mistake of ordering the wrong rims off the Tacoma pro that are 16 inch and gloss black......rookie mistake I know. Thanks again this video has help me build my dream truck..Your the man
2016-2017 Tacoma sport & off road owners: "the TRD Pro is a waste of money, only posers who want to flex their wealth buy them!" *immediately buys trd pro grill and matte black scoop shroud*
I'm talking about the Tacoma. The Tundra is in a different league... poor fuel economy, dated design and stiffer competition (in class) allows it to be on a comparable price range. Folks on TacomaWorld forum meow about how the Tacoma TRD PRO is a waste of money and they would much rather spend the additional 8-10k it cost from the OR package on their own, "better" modifications...This is flawed thinking... sure it's cool to say you modified your rig the way you wanted, but at the end of the day, they won't get that money back out of it... whereas with the Pro, you will... because it CAME stock with the additions... adding that to its exclusiveness allows it to be a safer long-term buy --*just my .02. My original post is poking fun at those folks who complain about the TRD Pro being soooo expensive, yet the first modifications they buy are done to match the Pro... I find it funny is all. Human Race: hate what you can't have, until you get it. Then it's cool.
Streetbikechamp the pro looks good but functionality wise it does not justify itself for the price. If it had front lockers stock winch better tires then it would be worth the price.
I own a pest control company, and this truck would be nice for what I do. I like the upgrades on it for sure. I'd put my business logo on the sides real big in bright green lettering so it pops. Because I drive around town more than off road, should I not lift it? It looks so good, I want to. Would it mess up my truck with mostly stop and go traffic? Never had a lifted truck. My current truck is an 11 Tacoma extended cab 2wd.
John Thompson personally I wouldn't do a 3" lift like this particular Tacoma. My personal Tacoma has a 2" leveling kit and that is more than enough for me and the ride is a bit more uncomfortable for sure.
cody zavada thanks for the message Cody (well, comment haha). So many folks take the time to write ugly comments so when I receive a positive one like yours, it really makes my day! Thank you. And to answer your question, I hope to have another Tacoma video soon. I'm working a Tundra one now.
Beautiful! I want this same look but really don't know about getting it in black. I can't decide between black and the dark gray with the same mods. What would you recommend?
My Tacoma is daily driven. If you don't plan to do much off road, there are 2WD models of Tacoma and the TRD Sport grade is a nice looking model...but really any of the grades would work well for you. Hope that helps.
Does lifting a truck lessen its structural integrity? Also, with that lift/tire combo would there be any noticeable change in mpg? If so, about how much of a difference?
Yes, unfortunately... My personal Tacoma (2016 TRD Off Road 4x4) has the same issue and I had 2 TSB's address the issue with little satisfaction, honestly. The only thing my Taco did after the TSB's is hold onto each gear longer which is not helpful. About 2 months ago, I ordered a ShiftSense Pro module that easily installs in minutes and activates the sequential shifting and matches the shifts to engine revs. This has been the best $180 spent ever. My Tacoma drives significantly better and actually averages better MPG. Formerly, my Taco averaged 15/16mpg and now averages 18/19mpg using ShiftSense Pro. I'll eventually make a RUclips video on it, just working on some other items.
Does the 3" lift with the wheels make it equal in ground clearance to the TRD Pro? And wondering what else the sport doesn't have that the Pro does. How much did this vehicle go for MSRP with their add-ons? I like having a sunroof too which i believe the pro doesn't have the option
These particular emblems were essentially "plasti-dipped" but there's a company called NoxLux that makes custom overlays...that's what I had on my personal Tacoma and highly recommend them! nox-lux.com/product/2016-2017-tacoma-black-out-kit/
I hear you on both. As for the plasti-dip, I'm sure the dealer uses it because 1) it's cheap and 2) it can be removed fairly easily if the customer doesn't want it. As for the overlays, trust me...when I shared pics and video of my install, I had a lot of comments about that "A" being closed off...it doesn't matter once you have it on your Tacoma. No one ever asked me about it and it doesn't stand out or look strange...it may look like that right now because you're concentrating on that part...but trust me, it looks great on the Taco. I leased my Taco...which is why I liked these but if I owned it, I would just remove them completely from the doors since I like the cleaner look. Hope this helps.
Hoang Nguyen you ready for the answer? Because u can, LOL ...personally I agree but my guess is the dealer likes using TRD Sport grades for their builds.
Anyone know. About the cost of a 2017. Set up like this. Trying to find out if the 2015 4.0 liter is more powerful than the 3.5 liter 2017. I love the style of The 2017 better if it’s not much of a difference in horse power I would rather get a 2017. Thanks for any help or suggestions 6 nations 😉
How do you like the Tacoma TRD Sport for daily driving? I live in Chicago where traffic and limited parking are the norm, but I really want this truck. Your thoughts?
ToastyBabynose I think you'll be fine with the TRD Sport. The tires are not as aggressive as TRD Off Road and what you see here on this particular Tacoma ...also I would recommend you keep it stock level. Any increase in ride height is only going to give you a rougher ride.
DefconJosh I'm sure any Toyota dealer can order...but I bet you can get the best price and perhaps free shipping (don't quote me on that, LOL) from Jay Wolfe Toyota. Call them at 844-334-0213 and ask for Parts and to speak with Jason Riley.
The tires are not really a good fit on the TRD rims, TRD 17" rim is a 7" BFG Recommends Minimum 7.5 for 285/70x17, problem with the 285's on the 7" rim is that the center of the tire has a high spot unless you air down to 35psi, but then the tires "wobble" .. been there done that, closest rim to the OEM TRD rim would be the FN FX Pro Rim, they are 8" wide, and are in spec with the BFG tires...
Yes, for sure. My personal Tacoma TRD Off Road has a Rough Country 2" leveling kit and drives different (rougher) than stock...but the 3" lift kit is much more "rough." Not a terrible or uncomfortable ride...but certainly NOT stock.
atlfan13579 not all dealers will customize but several do. Folks will also tell you that you can save money having the custom work performed at a private shop. When dealers do this work, they typically warranty the modifications. I would tell you to ask a dealer about it if you're interested.
LOYALTOYOTA thanks for the reply. When you say it runs a little rough what does that mean exactly? I have never had a lifted truck before just stock. Would you recommend a Tundra or Tacoma. I have had only Tacomas because of the better gas mileage but I don't drive alot maybe 12000 a year or less
atlfan13579 if you need a full size pickup, go for the Tundra. Difference in MPG is not much between the Tacoma and Tundra. Personally, I like Tundra but it is too big for me...I simply don't need a big truck like that. Because the lift makes the Tacoma ride higher, you'll feel a bit more of the road while driving and certainly any potholes, etc. My Tacoma with a 2" leveling kit rides rougher than a stock Tacoma, for example.
LOYALTOYOTA Thanks again for the quick response and these are my last questions. Is there a oem lift or only after market. What type do you have on your truck? Which would you recommend? I really like the look of the Tundras and I would utilize the bigger size but do I need it, probably not.
atlfan13579 no OEM lifts. The 2" leveling kit on my Tacoma is made by Rough Country. Most of the Tacoma models I feature here built by Jay Wolfe Toyota are also Rough Country. There are other options available but I'm happy with what I have.
gip1279 meh...honestly just buy a sport or OffRoad and do your own custom work. Probably comes out about the same $$$ wise and at least it will be uniquely yours and not some "badge" you bought.
Nah, gotta go with the Pro for one reason: resale value. They are like unicorns and I could sell my cement manual for more than I payed (41.5k) right now. A custom sport or offroad not so much.
They just need to replace the motor and transmission - which is the most deplorable power plant Toyota could have matched to an otherwise well built chassis. Simply put: a piece of absolute underpowered, synthetic feeling piece of garbage. This engine will not hold up like my 2002 which had 347,000 miles on it's original power plant. One has to redline this new iteration to get the most out of it....never going to last.
Toyota made such a gorgeous new gen tacoma. I want one soo bad!
Bruce R. A
Bruce R. I couldn't agree more...👏🤘🤙
Bruce R. Me too. It's killing me!
Dude me2 lets buy 1 together
Same😍😔

This is exactly the way I'd like mine to look. Not a drastic lift, but enough to make it stand out. I love it!
Agent28Rock my Tacoma is on a 2" leveling kit and that's enough for me! Haha. This 3" kit had me stretching even more to get in.
is this a tough country lift or a rough country lift ?
Rough Country.
LOYALTOYOTA quick question
How did you fit those 285s
On the website they said that max tire size would be 265s
Was there any cutting done
Looks great ..
LOYALTOYOTA Is there any tire rubbing up front with this set up? Also, what is the height of the truck measured from bottom to top of roof, just want to ensure truck will fit into my garage once I add the same lift kit, wheels and tires on my 2016 Tacoma.

Bring back the factory supercharger like in the old T100!

Awesome, thanks for the props and glad to help!
I did the same thing to my 2017 Taco, but I also added the Rigid Industries fogs. Your truck looks great.
Finally a mild setting for common person that doesn't brake the bank or gas mileage of a daily driven vehicle.
Just ordered my TRD pro grill. Can't wait to install it. :D:D:D
2016-2017 Tacoma sport & off road owners: "the TRD Pro is a waste of money, only posers who want to flex their wealth buy them!" *immediately buys trd pro grill and matte black scoop shroud*
Streetbikechamp hahaha! Well shared. LOL
Streetbikechamp the Tundra TRD Pro isn't really that much more in price.
I'm talking about the Tacoma. The Tundra is in a different league... poor fuel economy, dated design and stiffer competition (in class) allows it to be on a comparable price range. Streetbikechamp agreed 💯% same with the tundra which by the way gets a new front grill for 2018. Trd pro grills are awesome.
Streetbikechamp the pro looks good but functionality wise it does not justify itself for the price. If it had front lockers stock winch better tires then it would be worth the price.

That's an amazing looking truck! One day, i shall have one. Yes i shall!
Definitely my favorite Tacoma you have shown us! When will you be showing off more Tacomas?
cody zavada thanks for the message Cody (well, comment haha). So many folks take the time to write ugly comments so when I receive a positive one like yours, it really makes my day! Thank you. And to answer your question, I hope to have another Tacoma video soon. I'm working a Tundra one now.
Awesome! (Glad I could help! haha) I look forward to it! Thanks
Beautiful! I want this same look but really don't know about getting it in black. I can't decide between black and the dark gray with the same mods. What would you recommend?
I like this. This is what I want to do with my Trd off road , exactly like this
Have to admit BEAST!!
Would this be a good daily driving car to work and stuff? I really want to own a pick up truck but I don't do much off road
My Tacoma is daily driven. If you don't plan to do much off road, there are 2WD models of Tacoma and the TRD Sport grade is a nice looking model...but really any of the grades would work well for you. Hope that helps.
Toyota is doing a good job
Nice Truck ! I want to do the same lift on mine, but not sure it will fit in my garage. How tall is the truck ? Thanks !
Does lifting a truck lessen its structural integrity? Also, with that lift/tire combo would there be any noticeable change in mpg? If so, about how much of a difference?
So does yours hesitate from 0mph when flooring it? My 2016 off-road does. Recall soon? Careful, could cause an accident!
Yes, unfortunately... My personal Tacoma (2016 TRD Off Road 4x4) has the same issue and I had 2 TSB's address the issue with little satisfaction, honestly. great lookin truck
Do you have any idea how much these mods cost ? I'm looking to get me a Toyota Tacoma and this one is the nicest I've seen.
yeah thats a nice truck man. i got a 17 4 cylinder but I'm trading up for a 4x4.
I luv this setup. Good job 👏
I wonder how much the mpg suffered with the 3” lift and the 285/70/17’s?? Im looking to do this but with 18” wheels.
How tall are you? I'm about 5'7" and this thing looks like a beast next to you! (Probably anyone it's next to!) How hard to get in and out?
cody zavada on a good day, I'm 5'9" LOL. It's not that hard to get in and out honestly, good thing for the predator steps.
Good to know! thanks!
Does the 3" lift with the wheels make it equal in ground clearance to the TRD Pro? And wondering what else the sport doesn't have that the Pro does. How much did this vehicle go for MSRP with their add-ons? I like having a sunroof too which i believe the pro doesn't have the option
How much is it out the door price for a Tacoma like this one?
If I remember correctly, the price on this Tacoma was around $41,000.
Nice truck! I like the black badging. Can u tell me anything about them? Are they completely new emblems?
These particular emblems were essentially "plasti-dipped" but there's a company called NoxLux that makes custom overlays...that's what I had on my personal Tacoma and highly recommend them! nox-lux.com/product/2016-2017-tacoma-black-out-kit/
Thx, I really like the center of the A's being open, but not so sure about plasti-dip.
I hear you on both. As for the plasti-dip, I'm sure the dealer uses it because 1) it's cheap and 2) it can be removed fairly easily if the customer doesn't want it. Cool toy dinosaur in the cup tray
uhmmm why you lift the truck with a Sport model but not the OffRoad...just curious .
Hoang Nguyen you ready for the answer? Because u can, LOL ...personally I agree but my guess is the dealer likes using TRD Sport grades for their builds.
Incredible truck!!!
Why get the sport when the off-road is available.
finish it up with leather seating from Canada Seat Skins. Very nice!
Dang it. I would love that hood. Can I order one for my 2014 Tacoma?
My dream build.
What mpg you are getting? I have the same setup
Yep, i want this
Yep, I have this... but not really just kidding
Beautiful truck...😎🤘🤙
Great video guy thank you very much
Where can I buy one like that 2020 ???
that looks bad ass. how much more is the sport over the sr5 ?
Kris Simon you can build one out online via toyota.com --- there are tech packages that can change the price a lot.
Also looking for a double cab long bed Are they hard to find?? In that 2017 4x4 TRD sport
WHat is he exact name of the predator step bars? Would like some myself....
Jonathan Dykeman they are called "Predator Tube Steps" by Toyota.
doesn't the 3 inch lift kit void the warranty?
Scott Schriver dealer provides their warranty
lucky guy beautiful truck

So clean
I enjoyed your review
Alec J thank you Alec, I appreciate your feedback.
where is a good place to order the trd hood?
Did your lift affect the suspension?
Alan Raya the ride is stiffer for sure. This truck features 3-inch lift, my personal Tacoma is a 2-inch and is rough enough LOl
God damn thats a sexy truck
where can i get one of those TRD badges? looks awesome
DefconJosh I'm sure any Toyota dealer can order...but I bet you can get the best price and perhaps free shipping (don't quote me on that, LOL) from Jay Wolfe Toyota. Call them at 844-334-0213 and ask for Parts and to speak with Jason Riley.
Which lift kit did they put on this bad boy?
Rough Country.
Can I order a truck in this configuration at a dealership?
Depends on your local Toyota dealership. If they are willing to order and install, I'm sure they can do it for you.
love it
where did you purchase the TRD grille
emmanuelska1234 Jay Wolfe Toyota did the work.

Kevin Peyper good to know, thanks for contributing.
What about a 3 in and 2 level lift, 285/75/16 on 16 in rims?
3 inch lift or 6 ??
Joe Savath 3-inch lift kit.
About how much is it to get it lifted 3 inch?
kent Rough Country lift kits run around $250 plus labor.
What kind of rims are those??
Vasili Polyzos 17x7 TRD Pro wheels.
Type of lift did they add? G
Charles S. Barcus believe it is a Rough Country lift kit.
Charles, it is a 3" Rough Country lift.
LOYALTOYOTA how did it drive? Different from stock?
Yes, for sure. My personal Tacoma TRD Off Road has a Rough Country 2" leveling kit and drives different (rougher) than stock...but the 3" lift kit is much more "rough." Not a terrible or uncomfortable ride...but certainly NOT stock.
cool truck
Could you let me know what song that is? Thanks!
Andy Diaz music credit noted at the end of this video.
What Lift kit was used?
Tyler Mccoy Rough Country 3” Lift Kit.
nice tacoma
I love Toyota inniva
Nice!!!
I really want to know what this lift setup is. Anyone input?
iamjansport 86 Rough Country 3" lift kit for 2016+ Tacoma.
Tnx. How does it ride on the road? Any rubbing? I'm in between just doing 5100 all over
A bit rougher ride than stock, naturally. No rubbing.
What suspension lift kit is on the toyota
Jason Ricamona Rough Country 3-inch lift kit
Can I put on fox 3 ultimate suspension lift kit if I had a 4x4 sport
LoyalDriven I got a 4x2 trd sport
I can only lift it and put better after shocks like the bilstein 5100
Can you get this done at any to you dealer
atlfan13579 not all dealers will customize but several do. Folks will also tell you that you can save money having the custom work performed at a private shop. When dealers do this work, they typically warranty the modifications. I would tell you to ask a dealer about it if you're interested.

You got your wish with the 2018 model year!
bad ass
Love everything but the rail/steps.
theres a dinosaur in there lmao
He's totally harmless.
😍
Nice
music?
dan_the_rugged_man credit at the end of video.
That looks like a 6inch lift
I'll take a White TRD pro in manual
Nice! But it needs leather
Make your videos a little longer than 3 mins
That mug is bad to the bone
Bad Ass
Why not just buy the trd pro lmao
Now if Toyota made it 10k cheaper, 0% financing and more fuel efficient, they would hit it out of the park.
I have a toyota innova 2007
music tracks if possible...
Adrian end of the video has credits.
The none functional hood lol

LOYALTOYOTA Yea, the truck irritates me so much that when I speak of it, it fires me up!!
What lift kit?
Rough Country.
LOYALTOYOTA does it need a regear for those size tires
frincon75 no it does not.
