So wonderful that we have reached a point in time where the great Robert Fripp now has the time to share these wonderful insights and tips for us fans and the curious to enjoy. Oh great Robert, please let Toyah know her 'Dance to the rhythm' keeps getting better and better. Great live performance and I'm really digging that great music. Also ROCK ON!!!!
I remember being 17 and buying Larks' Tounges in Aspic. I put it in my CD player and listened to the first track. Then I heard *that* guitar line and it changed everything. It may seem trite to others but hearing it changed the way I looked at music.
I was also seventeen when I first heard the record-and seventeen when the record was originally released. I saw the group in concert at Kiel Auditorium on May 12, 1973-the day after a much louder Led Zeppelin concert at the Arena-Spooky Tooth opened. Later that summer I was playing in a rock group, and various friends came to our rehearsals. Chuck and Rex were enthusiastic about Larks so I bought the record. I was enthusiastic about the Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “Birds of Fire”, which convinced Rex (but not Chuck) to buy that record. I still treasure both records.
Very shortly after its release in March 73, I saw King Crimson perform Lark’s Tongue in its entirety in West Palm Beach in June 1973. Peter Frampton opened the show. King Crimson opened my brain to all possibilities in my own band’s performance and quite simply changed my musical life. I was in row 5 center, so close I was surrounded by sounds right off the stage. Bruford’s kit and a large collection of percussion including giant steel plates was stage center left (just to my right), Robert at far stage left as seems to be his habit, right THERE! Wetton sounded fantastic, at most 15’ from me straight ahead making an intimate connection, David Cross far stage right, and I don’t recall separate percussion member Jamie Muir. I was blown away and embarked on a different stage in my own music.
Robert, thanks for all the fantastic music you and KC has given us for so many years. Pure genius, pure magic, totally ahead of its time and that will be appreciated for generations!
Abrazo fraterno!
Robert, I saw the band in winter of 1969/1970 at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago and have been listening ever since. Thank you for all the music through out the years.
This is such an amazing treat! To be able to watch and listen to Robert Fripp as he takes us on a journey into his fantastic world. I love the editing because it begins as an exclusive guitar lesson for the epic intro to Lark’s Tongue in Aspic, but before long we are touring Mr. Fripp’s home art gallery of King Crimson discography related works. Thank you so much for your tremendous body of work which will be enjoyed by countless generations into the future. Thank you for your eloquent words and sharing your technique with us!
Visceralmente romantico, ciao Bob.
Thank you Mr. Fripp for giving some insight into your playing and how you approach your music. I would have never thought I would be able to see this in person. Toyah’s band sounds excellent!
Given Fripp's stormy rep back in the good ole days, it's a great thing to see this great one mellow out and his sense of humor emerge. He's still sharp as ever, the guitar player's guitar player
Thank you for letting us inside your world, Robert. Your practice regimen is legendary and admirable. I hope you continue to post these little peeks :)
LTiA Pt I has always been my favorite. Love the long, gentle, atmospheric buildup and introduction to the theme. When the guitar slides in above this staccato violin notes leading to the first batch of power cords...❤!
I love these lessons! Thank you Mr. Fripp. I've been working on Part I for a while. The challenge on that whole section for me-after figuring out that none of the online transcriptions is accurate and working it out note by note for myself-is speed and picking efficiency, meaning just more practice. I find the coda equally difficult. Playing the continuous double stops staccato at speed requires more energy and stamina for me than the whole running section.
Many years spending time trying to figure it out this solo. I deeply appreciate that Mr. Fripp shared the secrets of this master piece. This is the solo that changed my entire way to look at guitar execution and composition. If we can get the full picture of this solo would be amazing. Certainly there are few details that i've been missing out, and i'm not sure if someone on youtube nailed the entirety of this solo.
...having spent most of my teen years building pedestals for other idols, the kc i discovered was a little higher brow than I'd been accustomed to, the nearest neighbour on the idiot dance floor being the Floyd. Now that I'm 70 you've joined my path again, thanks for coming my way. i can still stretch a rhythm.
always be a pleasure see you doing the things on ytb. you are the greatest guitar player since 69 , when i was born. thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You make the impossible look mundane. Thanks for the tour of your lovely home. 50 years on and still no one has reached the prog benchmark you have set. Brilliant
I recently discovered the Washington Square Church record and have been listening it for two weeks straight. The entire album is beautiful beyond words.
Thank you so much Robert for appearing on RUclips and for the lesson. Hope to see more of these. I’ve been a fan since the 70’s while living in Torremolinos, Spain.
Hi Robert, love Sunday Lunch. Do you carry out finger stretching exercises before playing? Some of the playing on the fret board seems quite a stretch.
I’m a jazz drummer and fascinated by your guitar lines and chops/techniques and your music Mr Fripp - been fascinated since enjoying Crimson live in NY at the Savoy in 1981! Say hello to you at a book or cd signing line - Frippertronics tour stop at World Financial Center & told you I was ready to play with King Crimson, how did you a business card but probably wasn’t taken seriously… I am still ready
50 years of Larks. Blimey. I'm old.

Robert Fripp is one of the most unique and interesting guitar players of all time. He is King Crimson.
I love this. I can watch all day
Oh wow! The original watercolor for "In the Court of the Crimson King"! Such an iconic image. Thank you for the lesson Robert.
Such a sad story of the artist who painted it: Barry Godber
A reminder of how good your guitar lines are.
Shame about the noisy crowd.
A free guitar lesson from. One of the best. Thank you Robert
Thanks God, because you gave us Robert Fripp!!!

I saw the Mahahvishnu Orchestra at the Mississippi River Festival August 14, 1973. The Section opened.

And the new guitarist of Toya's band, the one a little to the side, looks very promising
@@pompeomagno5916
Yep, I think he’s going places.😃
Robert can shred whenever he wants and do it with an expression of someone doing data entry, which scared the crap outta me.
first one of these i've seen. spectacular. thank you robert for sharing and giving us a glimpse into your world.
Given Fripp's stormy rep back in the good ole days, it's a great thing to see this great one mellow out and his sense of humor emerge. He's still sharp as ever, the guitar player's guitar player

There's always something to learn from the sensei!
Go Toya! Slave to the rhythm is one of my favorite songs!
LTiA Pt I has always been my favorite. Love the long, gentle, atmospheric buildup and introduction to the theme. When the guitar slides in above this staccato violin notes leading to the first batch of power cords...❤!
Outstanding - thank you for the rich inspiration and instruction.
Saw you in town the other week Bob.
Larks Tongues is my absolute favorite King Crimson album

Your digital dexterity is amazing. I'm not surprised la Toyah is always smiling..
I still have my vinyl copy! I bought it when I was 16. LOVE KC!!
Once again: Thanks !
I love you, Mr. Fripp! You open up my head whilst playing my own axe...
I love so much the _Robert at Home_ videos. So generous, ludic, controlled and free. The editing like a composition. Thank you.

I got "Exposure Box" last week. I really enjoy your music! Thank you, Maestro!
Mr. Fripp has a seat at my ultimate dinner guest list. Along with Jacques Cousteau and many others. It may have to be a buffet.
Fascinating guitar playing as always! Can't wait for the next KC tour!
Wonderful.
Greetings Robert was wonderful to meet you and Toyah, love Bol \m/

Imagine being a guitarist in Toyah’s band and Robert Fripp sits in. Every song would be a masterclass.

How are you doing Michael 😊
Me too. 65 and still listening to King Crimson. Bought In The Court of the Crimson King as soon as it was released.
Thanks for the clearly explanation, Mr. Fripp., A great interesting video series at You Tube, by my favorite guitar player.
