Great video great person thank you. I'm 40 years old now. And your videos make me fill like I'm a kid again setting in front of tv on Saturday afternoon watching your show before. I went fishing myself. Thank you again. Have a blessed day.
Thats funny. I too am 40 and transitioned from saturday morning cartoons (what the hell happened to those?) To TNN outdoors. I think these shows fueled my passion and turned me into the man happily wasting his productive years fishing that I am today.
I love 'ole Roland too........watched every one of his TV shows back in the 70's & 80's. But I have to DISAGREE with ya on "who has done the most for the sport of bass fishing"......and for good reason. TRUE STORY>>> The late great LEW CHILDRE ( yes, I have his last name spelled correctly ) was directly responsible for EVERY modern low-profile baitcaster you could place in your hand today. Lew Childre lived in south Alabama & started his quest to invent & produce BETTER rods & reels that the freshwater fishing world, particularly bass fishing, had never seen before. He began his quest in the 40's on fishing rods FIRST. He met & partnered with the owner/ceo of FUJI in Japan, and introduced their collaborative innovations to the USA for the very first time. Anglers everywhere were blown away by the ZIRCONIA line guides on rods that did NOT damage your line, nor would the line damage the guides. LONGER CASTS were the result. They also innovated the BEST rod grip/reel seats, and Lew Childre was also among the very first to work with GRAPHITE RODS. For DECADES, informed bass anglers knew the LEW'S SPEED STICK graphite rods were the best in the nation. But his BEST ground-breaking innovation was yet to come: Lew always hated ALL the baitcaster reels of the day. Lew began manufacturing after-market gear sets/kits for the baitcasters of the day, such as the Ambassadeur reels by Abu-Garcia. Lew's CUSTOM gear sets were "HOBBED" .....( better than "straight cut" gears ) with FASTER gear ratios, smoother & longer lasting than ANYTHING found in any reel of the day. He literally butchered & made "Frankenstein" versions of existing brands of reels he fitted with better, smoother & faster gears, narrower spool, and TRUE FREE-SPOOL during the cast. Fuji suggested Lew Childre meet the CEO of a certain Japanese company world reknown for their ability to create TOOLING for manufacturing with impressive precision & they made gears, gear shifters, brakes & cables, and other high quality parts for BICYCLES. That company was SHIMANO. Shimano had never even dreamed of "producing fishing reels".........UNTIL LEW CHILDRE MET WITH THEM. Lew brought along all of his designs/blue prints he had been quietly working on for years, along with his "Frankenstein reels" as rough examples. SHIMANO WAS BLOWN AWAY.....AND PARTNERED WITH LEW CHILDRE IMMEDIATELY. Using Lew's designs & blue prints, they worked closely together back in 1973 to create THE WORLD'S VERY FIRST, LOW PROFILE, LONG CASTING/TRUE FREE-SPOOL BAITCASTER........known as THE LEW CHILDRE BB1 SPEED SPOOL "BY SHIMANO". This new reel cast TWICE AS FAR as "the #1 reel of the day" aka "the Ambassadeur by Abu Garcia". The original Lew's BB1 Speed Spool ( made by partner: Shimano ) was low profile with THE FIRST "NO KNOB" DESIGN ON THE PALMING SIDE, narrow spool & extended line guide WITH Zirconia insert that drastically complemented the reel's insane casting distance thanks to its DISENGAGING LEVEL-WIND/FREE-SPOOL DURING THE CAST, better/faster gears, better smoother drag, BALL BEARINGS STANDARD ( all other brands used only BUSHINGS ), longer handle, and the famous flat "ping-pong paddle" style handle grips. THE LEW'S BB1 SPEED SPOOL REEL WAS "THE REEL THAT STARTED IT ALL"........and knocked the rest of the entire industry flat on its ass. Its basic overall designs are STILL USED IN ALL THE MODERN REELS OF TODAY. That is A FACT. Had it not been for Lew Childre, there's the high probability that Shimano NEVER would've gotten into the fishing reel industry at all. And no telling "where" we would stand right now as far as technology for our beloved low profile, long casting, butter smooth baitcasters. I think that makes LEW CHILDRE the most important & influential person in the history of the sport of bass fishing, for BOTH rods AND reels. Lew Childre died suddenly in a plane crash ( his own sea-plane ) in 1978 I believe, just when his company became NUMBER 1 in bass fishing rods & reels.
Howabouthetruth Thanks so much for your encyclopedic knowledge of ole Lew! I guess what I should say is that in part because of the life long dedication of Lew, Roland Martin was able to become the “face” of modern bass fishing. I used the Abu Garcia reels for years and still have one. The Swedish made ones I sold, they have a lot of value to collectors. But once I tried the modern teardrop style reels it was hard to pick up the old clunker ambassadors. My son is fishing in the Ray Scott ABA championship on the red river in La starting today...he uses almost exclusively Lew’s rods and reels.
Best of luck to your son today in that tournament!!! Those old Swedish Ambassadeur reels are actually made quite well, to last a very long time. But all the baitcasters back then had the line guide running back & forth like a turbo typewriter during the cast & just killed the casting distance. Ole Lew HATED that, lol. I'm 56 yrs old, and I remember Lew Childre & his "tear drop shaped" BB1 Speed Spools very well. I would just stare at em in the bass fishing magazines as a kid, and drooling over em, lol. By the time I was a young workin' man, the Shimano Bantams was all I could afford, and I only bought their top of the line models. They were nearly half the cost of the Lew's BB1. The BB1 cost a hundred bucks BACK THEN. I got to cast an original BB1 a few times on Lake Guntersville back in 1983, and I just wanted to throw my Shimano Bantam in the lake........it was that good. We were helping some tournament bass fisherman whose boat had broken down & he invited me to try out one of his BB1's as we swapped batteries to get his outboard running. By that time, the Childre family had switched ALL manufacturing & design over to RYOBI exclusively, and they were BETTER than the earlier BB1 by Shimano. The Ryobi version was the world's FIRST bass fishing baitcaster with a single-piece CAST aluminum frame that wouldn't twist or torque at all under pressure. That was also "an industry first". And God BLESS long-time friend of the Childre family LYNN REEVES. Lynn Reeves hated how ZEBCO eventually put the screws to the Childre family & their Lew's reels under exclusive contract. The Childre family put TOO MUCH TRUST in Zebco in that lengthy contract, and a new CEO of Zebco said: "WHY are we producing a baitcaster for a different company that is BETTER than our own flagship model?" So Zebco purposely DOWN-GRADED the quality of ALL the Lew's reels & the brand faded away. When that contract finally expired, the Childre family & all Lew's trademarks were going bankrupt. Lynn Reeves was perhaps the TOP single industry insider for fishing reels, due to being the head of research & development and chief purchasing agent for Bass Pro Shops for a very long time. He knew ALL the manufacturers & their plant managers world-wide who actually MADE the reels. He promised the Childre family if they would sell him ALL Rights & trademarks to the Lew's Fishing name, he would not only revamp the name, but he would put it back on top. He did just that. People think just because "reels & reel parts look identical & interchangeable, they are the same, regardless of "brand". That is WRONG. There are different grades of materials from stainless steel, brass, aluminum, ball bearings, even plastics, as choices to be used, and TOLERANCES are also an option in the cost of making any of these reels. That's why certain higher end models perform better & last longer than others that appear the same. Lynn Reeves knew that Korean plant had every capability as the Japanese plants, and that's why the better Lew's reels are made there today. I also own & use only the new Lew's baitcasters & rods today, after using Shimano for decades. There's a lot of innovative heritage in the Lew's name. I also bought several classic old original BB1's made by Shimano AND Ryobi that are mint condition. I got those as keepsakes. ( That top of the line "Johnny Morrison" model baitcaster for Bass pro Shops is also a great reel.......made at the same Korean plant. ) I'll put a $200 Lew's reel up against a $400+ Shimano any day of the week. The hi-end Shimano's are great reels, but grossly over-priced. And these kids & younger anglers today are suckers to the "Shimano/Diawa hype".
man how i remember Roland when i was a kid.Great memories. He definitely was the one that got me out there when i was young. Great vid! ......Man he said that bass was 6 or 7 lbs🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it
Mr. Roland Martin, sir I'm so happy to see you doing these you tube videos. I'm 47 years old and to be honest you and Bill Dance taught me how to fish on Saturday and Sunday afternoons after Rasslin went off when I was a kid. When I was a kid it was Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair at 1 pm. Roland Martin at 2 or 2:30 on Saturdays and Sundays LOL!!!. But the real thing Roland I'm ecstatic to see you talking to and fishing for the every day man like the every day man. I don't own a 30k bass boat. I could buy one if I wanted, but I grew up fishing small farm ponds, small dug out rock quarries, small bodies of water like golf courses. I've never been a big lake guy. I'm so happy to see you teaching people how to fish like millions of us do in the small bodies of water behind Wal Mart. That small pond everyone ignores right off I95. These are the places I've caught some huge bass and countless 2-5 pound fish. I just appreciate you showing people how to fish these waters without having all the fancy latest expensive pieces of equipment.
Been Florida bass fishing for 50 years now..hands down, Roland was always the most informative and entertaining pro on fishing shows. Nobody has stepped up to replace him.
me too grew up on lake Tawakoni fishing was a big part of life. we would get wired up on fishing shows then go out and use those tactics we had learned from the show.
So awesome to see you back on the water..... Back to the days when fishing was fishing...... Been watching for a while..... And follow Scott..... Thank you for teaching me to fish over the last 4 decades!
Hope you keep making these Roland! I think alot of people would love for you to make these videos, especially with all the things you have figured out over the years. I’m sure you have plenty of techniques and little tricks to share with us. Keepem coming buddy!
Love your Channel. I remember watching you and Jimmy Houston when I was younger, learned a ton. Roland does a great job of explaining the techniques, true legend in the Fishing World.....We need a "Roland Martin" line of Fishing lures and Products. Who wouldn't buy a Roland Martin Spinnerbait? Keep the content coming....I need to slow down with the Senko, I fish them to fast.
Roland is becoming my favorite youtuber! SMC is up there too! Scott and Roland are the best fishing father and son on the planet! Thanks guys, y’all are truly blessed!
Again il say your enthusiasm is so bomb! Love you roland. I used your technique about how on hot days the bassy find the shade!. Slammed them on the frog. First then attacked the shade on every point wit a senko. Then the buzzbait. Then the whopper plopped. Thirty bass later my knuckle grew arthritis lol
Mine too!! Have been watching every single show you were in!! Thank god for RUclips, I am planning a guided trip from your guide service maybe I will see you there and get a autograph, my fishing hero!!!
I used to think well.....these guys are only filming their catches. They can’t be that much better than me. I fish all the time and catch more than others on my lake. This was a long time ago and I was sixteen. They had a tournament on a lake I fished often. I watched you fish and did my best to find you and watched through binoculars. You fished one of my favorite spots and I fished it often. It’s a drop off with a sloping decent and also a nice rock pile. I normally would catch one every time in this area. I watched you and I got to see you catch five fish in my spot. You released all but one. I watched and thought this man is in my spot on my water and he caught five bass in my spot in about fifteen minutes before leaving to another spot. I knew on that day....this is not luck. They know what they are doing. I fished the same spot for a hour the next day and caught one. I was sold. You were always one of my favorite. Awww son...lets get a look at this hog.
Just getting into bass fishing and appreciate the tips you provide in your videos. Because of you and others on RUclips, I had a 10 fish day from the bank.
Roland martin, Jimmy Huston, Hank parker, Bill dance,Jerry mckinnis. My weekend morning heroes of my youth man. I don't know if I would have the passion for fishin like I do with out them. Thank ya
@@fishtexas9780 hey I'm here to tell you that the Orlando show was the most realistic of them all... I swear I remember some shows where he did not catch not one single fish...at all.
Awww, I thought your favorite would be the Roland Martin™ Helicopter Lure (as seen on TV). Haha, just kidding. You've got quite the legend Mr. Martin. While I'm not from America and there's only 1 or 2 bodies of water with Largemouth Bass in my home country, I've always watched Fishing with Roland Martin whenever it came up on cable TV when I was growing up. Keep fishing Mr. Martin! I'm sure you still have tons of lessons to teach the younger generations.
Thank you Roland for the tips. I enjoy your challenges with Scott on RUclips & Fish brain app as well. Keep up the great work, tight lines, and God bless!
I've watched you for years. I really like how you show the technique of fishing the different kinds of lures instead of just watching you fish. Great to see you again. I also watch Scott and enjoy his videos but wish he would go more in depth about how to fish different baits.
I would use a Mann`s 12 inch Jelly Worm with an Owner over sized 11/0 worm hook, no weight, 50 lb. braid, and 8ft. medium heavy rod. That would cut down on small bass hits, and target big bass. Of course I probably would not catch anything, and Roland would be loading the boat with bass, and ask if I could spare some room in my boat to put some of his bass. Great video Roland, thanks.
awesome to see you doing your own channel now as well. I set in front of the TV on many a rainy weekends watching you and or bill dance. it's cool to see you participate in a genre you inspired here.
Roland. I love your channel. I've learnt so much. I am an English Teacher in Korea and there are a load of bass around here. I couldn't manage to get proper senkos here so I ordered them from Amazon just because of your advice and this video. Thanks again!!
Great video as always. Would love to see you and bill dance on a boat together. Not sure how’s he doing but I still watch him on spectrum. Maybe you could get him to go down to Florida or you can take a trip to Tennessee. Would be epic. 2 greats in a boat again. Regardless keep the videos coming.
I have been a fan of yours for many years. You were a guide in Clewiston marina and I was visiting my uncle Nate and aunt Gussy who's sister owned the army and navy store in town. Not sure if Scott was even born yet many years ago. Great show but you always had great shows. Keep up the good work. Your career has been amazing. Is momma still whipping you fishing lol.
Completely agree Roland! We’ve been focusing on using Senkos more the past month or so and our fish count has definitely increased compared to last year!
👍 fantastic video This is + I always do enjoy watching your videos on RUclips. My number one bait to go to is the Berkeley gulp alive 1inch / 2cm chartreuse Shad minnows. They Works fantastically awesome. The smell of them & the action when I twitch them and bouncing them off the bottom the fish goes crazy it's like a Feeding Frenzy with them.
I thought you were going to go with the helicopter lure as your favorite, lol. Loved the question to you about it and your answer at the classic expo with you, Bill and Jimmy. Still great to see your enthusiasm!
@@RolandMartinOutdoors Roland, I don't understand why one would want to have any leader which has LESS strength than the spool line. If I were to use a 15-25# (let's average to 20#) leader on a 36# line, how am I not diminishing my setup's originally intended strength by 16#s? Might as well just have a 20# line to begin with. Please help me make some sense of this. Many thanks!

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Incredible fisherman with incredible enthusiasm and such a joy to watch. Thank you again Roland. Great video!
Knowledge, teaching ability, vast experience, and skills. Hard to beat that combo!
Your videos are fun to watch and your commentary is interesting. Thank you sir.
Just getting into bass fishing and appreciate the tips you provide in your videos. Because of you and others on RUclips, I had a 10 fish day from the bank.
That's great. You should be proud of yourself
Love you Mr Martin. Thank you for this You Tube channel.
Roland martin, Jimmy Huston, Hank parker, Bill dance,Jerry mckinnis. My weekend morning heroes of my youth man. I don't know if I would have the passion for fishin like I do with out them. Thank ya
Could not agree more, loved watching the Fishin' Hole with Jerry McKinnis. You can throw in Orlando Wilson from back in the day as well.
What about Babe Winkelman!
@@fishtexas9780 hey I'm here to tell you that the Orlando show was the most realistic of them all... I swear I remember some shows where he did not catch not one single fish...at all.
Oh Son!! Been watching him since the late 70's. Met him at the 1988 Bassmaster Classic, in Richmond, Va. He was very friendly.
My god I love this guy. I wish all the fishing channels would watch you and learn how it’s done
I so much admire & respect you. Really enjoy the videos.
Your fishing knowledge (and reputation) is indisputable, but your simple, down-home approach to your senko video is awesome! Thanks a lot!
How come he only has 1k subs im shocked.how can you not love this guy?
I started watching your show in the 1990's. We fish the Southern California lakes and on the jetties by the ocean.
"Come on out with your fins up" , classic!! Roland , triple, triple ,O.G
Great video ! Ive always enjoyed your shows. God bless !
I remember watching your tv show when I was a teenager back in NC. Glad to see you're still at it!
Thanks for making these videos Mr. Martin!!!!
Watching The Legend today is just as awesome as it was when I was a teen anxiously waiting on his program on Saturday morning.
Thank you Roland for the tips. I enjoy your challenges with Scott on RUclips & Fish brain app as well. Keep up the great work, tight lines, and God bless!
Thanks for the video Roland! Long time fan, your getting me all pumped up for the warmer weather approaching. I live in Washington state. Fish on boy!
Thanks Roland, youre awesome, love watching you fish
I swear Roland makes friends with these bass they all seemed to like him alot n says welcome back buddy we been waiting for you.
Thanks for the tips on the Senko and to slow it down as needed and you look like you are having fun. It sure beats any day at the office.
Fresh mouth LargeWater black bass! Woo Son! Love this guy. A true legend in the industry.
Great to see one of the Legends embracing new media!
Always learn something new from you Roland. Thank you !
I love how excited Roland still gets to catch some bass
Have to love Mr. Martin. He is awesome.
Roland. I love your channel. I've learnt so much. I am an English Teacher in Korea and there are a load of bass around here. I couldn't manage to get proper senkos here so I ordered them from Amazon just because of your advice and this video. Thanks again!!
Can you "learnt" me english?
God bless Roland Martin.. Ive been watching him since 1976
Always liked you Roland !
The legend him self!
I never had the patience for flippin - but I know it's damn effect. These pros are the best at it.
Lots to learn from a pro like Roland. I'm loving the channel!
The grandpa every child needs
So nice to see an legendary fisherman
I like the offset trolling motor .Gives you more clearance off the bow for casting.
hell yeah enjoyed the whole video roland you the best
This man is a living legend in the fishing world. Son!
Mr Roland that's was awesome, one of the greatest, that gator was hungry lol close one
Its also nice to hear someone appropriately identify between pitching and flippin'! Drives me crazy when the youngsters use these terms synonymously.
Absolutely love this video, I've been a fan way when you used Quick fishing reels.
God bless , Mark south Louisiana
I thought you were going to go with the helicopter lure as your favorite, lol. Loved the question to you about it and your answer at the classic expo with you, Bill and Jimmy. Still great to see your enthusiasm!
i love this guy. it would be awesome to go fishing with him. i’d learn more in that one day then o have in my whole life.
Hey thanks Roland! I will be in Florida next week. Looking to catch a Big'en!
SINKOOOOO metal boat and Roland Martin Heathy fishing at its best.
Great videos!!!!
Legend. Love watching this man fish. 👌
How did I know 5" green pumpkin senco !! LOL LOVE YOU BROTHER !!
It is like the white curly tail, Except it catches monsters! PS I seen you throw that one into the water. lol
Just an all around good guy , love the vids
Hey Roland love your videos and all your techniques man. What rod is that you are using, is it the big sexy by favorite?
I think it would be so cool to go fishing with Roland Martin.
Always a delight to watch!
Roland, what weight fluoro 2' leader line would you attach to a 36# braided line?
Many thanks!
15-25#
@@RolandMartinOutdoors Roland, I don't understand why one would want to have any leader which has LESS strength than the spool line. If I were to use a 15-25# (let's average to 20#) leader on a 36# line, how am I not diminishing my setup's originally intended strength by 16#s? Might as well just have a 20# line to begin with. Please help me make some sense of this.
Many thanks!
SON!!!! Now that's a fish there son!! Man is a legend
Scott is lucky to have a great role Model like Roland. I'd wanna just go fishing everyday.
Awesome Roland thank you for the tips.
Helluva tv personality...a pros pro...legend
