    I've seen from other pages on ig that they do like calatheas, but mostly hoyas. So im pretty sure those red specks were them! I had them on a few hoyas. It's crazy how tiny they are! It helps if you put the leaf almost touching the microscope, that's how I was able to spot them on mine, like super super close, and then adjust the focus. I got some pretty gross videos of them on my microscope! Lol

    I have flat mites on almost all of my hoyas. They are orange specks and it you watch them for a little bit, they will start moving. The orange dots are their eggs. They like to hang out on the stems and on top and under the leaves. I have better luck using my laptop since it is a bigger screen. They do spread. Fern on RUclips ended up spraying all of her house plants. I think I need to treat all of mine. It's a sick feeling.

      Yeah they’re quite hard to see on the little baby phone screen while you’re also moving the microscope that moved opposite of what you want lol.. any ways I treated my entire collection w sulfur Hoyas, Philos and anthuriums.. and once I got a big thick coating of that nasty dusty spray on there, it was like the heavens were singing and everything started almost immediately growing

      What is a rough estimate for the likelihood that a Hoya would have them. Like statistically 1 in how many Hoyas would have flatmites?

  • @Adri8086

    I could swear I saw one of the orange specks move just a teeny bit at around 22:23! 👀 I'm gonna have to check my Marantas and Hoyas for flat mites soon. I'm thinking about treating them all just as preventative care. Hope you get to the bottom of what is causing weird markings on your plant babies.

    I'm pretty sure I have flat mites rapidly spreading through my collection despite using systemic granules and doing sulphur treatments, so I'm now going to try the tea tree soap, peppermint soap, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and water mixture and hope for the best.

    Do flat mites only like to attack Hoyas? Waiting for my microscope to check my string of bananas that has some knobby like new growth and some bronzing. I do have my one hoya separated from my succulent collection and I think it has flat mites. But do they bother other types of plants?

      @SuperUsername147 Год назад +1

      I do find it hard to believe that they are all of a sudden a huge problem in the houseplant community. Flat mites have always existed. People are just now aware of them. Good news is they are slow to breed (only 4-6 generations a year) making them pretty easy to overcome in the long term even if you do have them. Even if you miss some the infestation can’t come back as quickly as something like spider mites because they just don’t breed fast. So while it may not be easy to eradicate them, that’s okay! I would think regular pest prevention as part of normal plant care would be enough to keep numbers low and from causing any noticeable damage. I’d certainly rather have flat mites than thrips (my yearly nemesis). I’m with you. Not going to go crazy trying to control something that is very mild in comparison to other pest problems.

      @@SuperUsername147 exactly. And I grow most of my plants outside, there’s bigger problems out there… literally. I’m not going to let a little mite ruin the fun for me. Until I see any issues of course. 😵‍💫🤣

    I am going to switch to Leca after my battle with gnats. I still see them and I have treated all my plants. It's too expensive to keep fighting bugs between losing plants, buying fungicide and pest control, and the ingredients to make a good soil...all starts to add up. I'm done with GNATS AND BUGS PERIOD!

    • @SuperUsername147
