    Hi pals! James & Sarah here, back with another episode in our van build series. This week it’s campervan water tanks time, which means more time underneath the van!
    Positioning & fixing in place our 52L underslung grey water tank for our waste water is far from straight forward. But luckily our 100L fresh water tank is much easier as we install that in a cradle inside our garage space.
    We’re also installing our campervan water pump setup, drilling some more holes through the van floor for the shower & sink waste pipes & starting to put together our final kitchen cabinet where the sink will be.
    As usual things don’t go to plan as we grapple with working in tight spaces, the wrong size fittings & general fatigue of just wanting our new home on wheels to be finished already.
    There’s also a blog post on our website with lots more detailed info about how we designed & installed our campervan plumbing system. Click here to read: thewholeworldornothing.com/ca...
    As always, thanks so much for watching! If you enjoyed this episode hit the thumbs up & if you’re new around here don’t forget to subscribe.
    Catch you in the comments!

    I had a grin on my face at all that 'make it ******** fit' - adapt and survive! My folks were the ultimate DIYers and made sure all four of us offspring inherited some ability in it - at least as much as to problem solve and be 'creative' with solutions like this. You are wonderful! YAM xx

      Haha, sometimes a mixture of frustration and innovation can take you a long way 😅 DIY is a great thing to have been passed down to you, or at least the attitude that you CAN do it. It’s certainly a massive thing that we’ve gained from this build, maybe to the extreme - we try and DIY everything now! X

      Thanks! Finding all the right fittings and stuff was a nightmare! It would have helped to completely customise the tanks but because we were doing this during lockdown we had to order them way before we had a lot of the other parts that would connect to them, so ended up doing it a bit backwards. Got there in the end though 😅

    Thanks for the video! I am going to drill a hole to extend a water pipe. Watched a lot of videos, and I saw one used a magnet inside and outside the van body - when he moved the magnet inside, the magnet outside is moving as well! Next time you might want to try that to locate where to drill a hole.

    I really enjoyed this video guys even though you say everything leaks. 10 points for trying. Its probably a good idea to use solvent cement on all pvc pipes, obviously not the ones with gaskets inside. But then what do I know. Anyway I am really looking forward to how you fix all the leaks next week. I have finally put in my last polyvision window yesterday, yay bloody yay, so happy. Now to properly look at the electrics eek. I will try to take a leaf out of Sarah's book, such a good role model. Hope your pregnancy is still going well, you are both going to make lovely parents. Take care and stay safe guys xxx

      Thank you! We used John Guest fittings so they’re all push fit. Without giving too much away, you have to push them a bit harder than we thought 😅 That’s really exciting that you’re onto the electrics and the windows are in! Pregnancy is still goin great, thanks for asking. We’re just waiting now! Take care x

    I really enjoyed this and wanted to watch to see if its something I could do!! It’s so complicated looking I’m going to have to pay someone to do it sadly. Well done to you both, it’s not easy. ❤️

      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад +1

      Honestly, we made it a lot more difficult for ourselves than it needed to be! If we were to do it again we’d order the grey tank with different outlets and inlets which would have avoided all the issues we encountered. But glad you enjoyed it though, thanks for watching 😀

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад +1

      Yeah we were gutted, we didn’t realise until late on in the build that it was even there, much closer to us than screw fix and b&q too!! They were also always really knowledgable when we asked questions which is far more than we can say for the bigger hardware/more general stores out there. Your build is absolutely flying! If there was one piece of advice we’d give on the water system it would be to completely customise the water tanks to fit the fittings rather than the other way round! If we could go back and order different sized inlets and outlets it would have made the job so much simpler 😅

    Thanks great explanation. We are looking at 100 gallons of fresh water and gray / black water 50 gallons each.
    It might change to 50 gallons all around running tests now on our consumption for 24 hrs for 15 days. Just need to see where we end up.

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад +1

      Wow that’s huge amounts of water! Way bigger than our capacity so that should last you quite a while. But you’re doing a much larger vehicle by the looks of things. Good idea on the test though, we did a similar calculation to work out roughly what could give us a weeks worth of water 👍

      @@TheWholeWorldorNothing no just used the mdf units to make what was thinking of the layout feels little cramed now. Ordered a smev sink cooker when at comes a will know how mutch more a can trimp the work top/units few inches could make all the difrence. Yeah the week off was good thanks. More so for victor. He is the one it has to watch me build camper. lol! Had few issues with van a had to adress dpf was one. had taken it off cut it open and drilled 4 holes in the honey combe then tig welded it back up so looks stock still. A water leak some other small niggles. Van had a brand new engine bye mercedes last year. So we niggly things needed sorted. Washed under it also going stone chip it all before fit diesel heater ect. Got 4tonne rated leaf springs and shocks to fit this. Week so it looks good with weight in it! Not that it be over but ever see them out and about and look like there dragging there arse ? If not you will now! Haha. Makes them a bit smoother to drive less wear on your diff / prop shaft.

      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад

      That’s interesting. Are you going to get it updated to a 4 tonne with the dvla or just leave it as it is?

      @@TheWholeWorldorNothing no updating it at be silly wont be able drive it then. Lol! Your only swapping the rear leaf springs for 3 leafs instead of 2 shocks are heavy duty after market can also get up rated front. But dont think will need them wait till need replace and do them. Police pull vans that are sitting low campers are a easy target for them. But way the uprated suspension it wont look over weight! If get what a mean. Plus a little more clearance if have to fix somthing on it at side of road better choice of tyres possibly. A dont no. Not got at far yet solved my kitchen issue ended up buying one from howdens. Will look smart!

    how have you found the 50ltr tank having showers, how many days had is lasted you?

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад +1

      Honestly we’d have loved a larger tank but for various reasons it wasn’t possible. We make the 50 litre work though without too many issues. We don’t shower every day and we obviously limit the time we spend in the shower too. We can get about a week out of it, tops.

    • @marinvelta1401
      @marinvelta1401 2 года назад +1

      @@TheWholeWorldorNothing thank you for the reply, we accidentally ordered a 43l tank instead of a 50 however I think we should be able to make it work by taking military showers :)

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад

      Yeah we’re really economical with our water usage and while we do love a long, hot shower, they’re just not a priority in the van. Hopefully the 43 litres works for you 😀

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад

      Sorry, not sure I understand! Why would the grey water tank need an air vent?
      The little tube by the inlet to the fresh water tank doesn’t really act as an overflow either because it’s on exactly the same level as the inlet, so if we were to overfill the tank it would come back up the full pipe.

    • @christianwinkelmann8477
      @christianwinkelmann8477 2 года назад +1

      @@TheWholeWorldorNothing to fill up the waste tank properly you need it . In my opinion. That’s right with the fresh water it will come out of the inlet.

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 года назад

      Ah ok, got it. We don’t have an air vent on the grey tank and ours has worked absolutely fine for the past year or so, no problems. But we do have two inlets, one from the sink and the other from the shower, both with traps on so this could be why - don’t think we’ve ever ran both the shower and sink tap at the same time which would potentially cause a slight issue.
