    James and Sarah, back with another episode in our van build series. This week we’re taking you behind the scenes of cutting our first holes in the van to install campervan roof vents.
    Having a solid ventilation system in a van conversion is essential, which is why we installed two camper roof vents, the MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe and the MaxxAir Skymaxx Rooflight.
    Watch on to see how we got on and just how nerve wracking it was putting jigsaw to metal!
    There’s also a blog post on our website where we go into more detail about other campervan roof vent options, give lots more installation tips & explain in more detail why campervan ventilation is so important.

    Guys, a great video and not over complicated. Currently converting my crafter and also was twitchy bum time when cutting the hole. Now it’s a cinch. Windows done, fan done, bathroom extract done, 240v hook up socket done. We all know your end result but great to watch. Live the dream and hopefully one day we will meet 👍❤️

      Ah thank you. Yeah the first one was definitely the worst but can’t lie, we still felt a little twitch with every hole we cut 😂 Sounds like you’re pretty far along with your conversion. Would be great to meet up for sure!

    Tip for neat sealer, put a run of masking tape where you want the sealer to finish on the roof.

    So I put up my Max Fan today then opened up the Skymaxx box to fit it in the rear and realised it wasn't going to be as simple to install. Search RUclips and low and behold my favourite RUclips couple bought the same as me. What a work up that was to put up. Did you find it a PITA as well??? I totally agree with James, not really a fan of the quality.

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  3 года назад +1

      Haha great stuff! Yeah it was a proper pain to install. However, even though we were worried about the quality it’s held up well so far and isn’t as flimsy as we first thought. And it’s well worth the effort in the end - the breeze it pulls through with the fan on is lovely in the kind of weather we’re enjoying now 😀

    Enjoyed this video from here in Virginia in the US. I'm building out my Chevy Express 2500 cargo van. I was planning on putting in two MaxxFans to get some serious air flow going. Hadn't considered one fan plus a skylight vent. I know you can use the fan in the rain, can you leave the skylight door open in the rain as well? P.S. On a random note, yours is the first yt video where I actually enjoyed the background music, especially that ska sounding song. Cheers!

    Hey guys, I was planning to put 2 Maxxair deluxe and was wondering: do you think one is enough in combination with the skylight? Or would you feel like 2 fans would be a big enrichment in terms of ventilation? Thanks a lot!

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  3 года назад +5

      Hi! In our opinion (and our experience of using it in the recent heatwave as well!) one fan plus the skylight is definitely enough. The Maxxair fans are really powerful so as soon as you turn it on, any other opening is enough to create a good breeze - even with just our small back window open a crack it still produces a good draught, and with the skylight open the ventilation is amazing, it’s like a wind tunnel 😅. Assuming you’ve got the same sized van as us we’d suggest one fan and a skylight is more than sufficient. Really not sure how much more efficient two fans would be, if at all. Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions 👍

    Sikaflex is a brand that does many types of sealants and adhesives etc. Could you be more specific. You should have put a few screws in the wooden frames. And also don’t use your hand to check for sharp bits. Doh! You guys seem to be doing a great job though.

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  3 года назад

      There are a couple of caravan-specific Sikaflexes, some which are waterproof etc., but we put links to most of the stuff we use in the video descriptions so hope that helps 😊 The frames don’t really need screws in as the wood glue is pretty strong and they’re being sandwiched in place by the two sides of the vents, we’re pretty confident they’re not coming apart any time soon. Definitely not the best way to check for burrs, no 😅 but we suffered no injuries in the process. Many thanks 😊

    Hi, great video, as always! We've just bought a Sprinter and have just completed our insulation and are absolutely loving your videos. I noticed in this video that you have aluminium rails on the roof of your van, can you please tell me where you sourced them? Thanks and keep on posting these tutorial vids x

    Hi, looking good I’m just about to invest in windows and the same fan as you have just fitted, does it come with the roll of mastic or do you have to go elsewhere for that, thanks

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  3 года назад

      The fan is great, well worth the investment in our opinion. It doesn’t come with mastic though, no, you’ll need to buy that separately. There’s a link in the description to what we used. Let us know if you have any questions about the installation that we might be able to help with!

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Not a stupid question at all. It runs off our electrical system which we hadn’t built at this stage so it’s not actually working here. We installed the fan first then hooked it up a little later in the build once we’d put our batteries and solar panels in 😀👍

    Nice job guys! I have that same exact skylight and haven’t installed it yet. Was a little nervous after looking at it and was thinking the same thing as you. Have you driven the van around since you installed it? Just wondering if it will rattle or anything.

    • @TheWholeWorldorNothing
      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  3 года назад +5

      Thanks! Yes we’ve had it in for around 4 months now and it’s actually been great. No issues whatsoever. It doesn’t rattle, hasn’t leaked, and even though it’s not as sturdy as the fan, there’s nothing to worry about in our opinion. Pretty happy overall 👍
