In this video tutorial, I will show you how to make a puzzle light/lampshade/lantern in a shape of truncated icosahedron, which contains 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons.
This DIY lamp requires 60 units from template 1 and 22 units from template 2. It is a great addition for your home/room decor.
To efficiently build this pendant light, please follow the steps in the video which explains how to relate the template units to the shape of truncated icosahedron.
The lamp/lantern is about 15 cm in diameter. The papers around 180 gsm are suitable for this craft.
For your safety, please use the low energy or LED globe.

Regardless of my earlier comment about needing 30 units of template #2, I’ve made this and it came out fantastic. I actually took the original template and modified it in Photoshop to be 200% the original size. I made custom power cords and used a multi-color Wifi-capable LED bulb and hung them from the ceiling of my husband’s art studio. They look amazing! Some people have come into the studio and asked to buy them! I made 6 of them, 3 on each size of the studio. When I program them to be all different colors, the effects is awesome. Thanks so much for this fabulous design!
made it with 160 g paper! :D although I used 4 sheets of template 2, (32 units 30 required). I love that they look like lava balls :D
Are you sure that only 22 of template #2 are required? When I created this I end up needing 30. I am going crazy trying to figure out how you assembled this with only 22.
Whats the diameter of this lamp, can you plz add template for bigger diameter lamp
thanks for the video
Have you tried turning that inside out? (So the little 'flowers' at the points are on the inside?)
I'm going to try it, seems like it will look much the same when the light is on (i.e. light still passing through the same number of layers) but less busy on the outside when it is off.
(EDIT: thanks for sharing these videos with us, and for making the templates available. Your videos are very inspirational.)
Thank you. Glad you like it. Good luck with making it.
I tried to make it, but after the minute 4 everything went bad
Amazing

+Meihsia Liu Thank you Meihsia.
looks great! what kind of bulb did you use?
Hi there.. I'd use low energy or LED bulb, less than 15W.
thanks :)
Cool!
+RedstoneExpert 279 Thank you.
Hello. Thanks for the tutorial but it's impossible to follow after 4-5 minutes. And I am not the only one. I really want to achieve it but the instructions are not clear enought. Would you considerate making a better video for us to follow? Thanks for the work. Apreciated.
You have mentioned that the templates can be downloaded, but when we do it, the file does not open. It is password protected. Kindly let me know how do I go about it.

i like it but i think its hard to do it 😳
+Heba Masri Hi heba... the template cutting may take a while, but the assembly is quite easy to follow from the video.
+EzyCraft thank you for your interest .. you make me wanna do it now 😊
+Heba Masri You are welcome. Good luck with making it.
I agree, its probably harder than it appears, I think I will give the simpler version a go first, we were asked to make paper sculptures for my Architecture degree. this will certainly help for inspiration.
What the paper, gram ? .
Hi there... in that project, I used 150 gsm watercolor pad.
