In my opinion the manscaped lawn mower 4.0 is totally overpriced and overrated and I think it sucks as a trimmer in general. I think the Brio Beardscape provides you a MUCH better trimmer for a lower price point.

One thing I've learned in life is that *_ANY_* product that is heavily advertised is probably crap.
If you see an ad for something and go, "Oooh! I gotta have that!" That means you should then go and seek out a competitor's version that's less heavily advertised, and you'll likely get a better quality product.

That said, I just got delivery of one today before seeing this review and being a bit new to this specific type of product.
Mine was a special Ebay deal: brand new incl all accessories BUT no box/instructions, neither of which bothered me £50 and everything works as expected ...bargain!
So far, all is good, tried it out tentatively on my facial stubble, no guard and it worked just fine, tried it 'down there' earlier again, no guard ...absolutely NO nicks or tugs, though I do have very good manual dexterity and have had quite a lot of practice with much cruder equipment! In anticipation of wear and tear, I also order two replacement blade units (£16).
If the battery gives out after a year or two, I'll probably open it up and attempt to put a new one in.
    Conclusion: I like it.

Agree with your points for the most part. The Lawn Mower alone IS over priced IMO. I bought the entire performance package when it was 20% off for the price of the just the Lawn Mower. I stand in the shower and trim BEFORE actually showering. Cutting wet hair ANYWHERE on your body is a no no IMO. As far as the hygiene plan. It's a great way to buy a small stockpile of replacement blades/cutter heads for the Lawn Mower and Weed Wacker because your getting two items for the price of one if bought individually. Once you've acquired your desired amount then cancel the plan. I added the plan along with my purchase of the Performance Kit and it allowed me to select how often I received the two items I choose to be shipped to me. There is an option for every 6 months. Select the two items you want or they will send you the stupid stuff eventually... ball mop, hair collection newspaper, etc. Too many people don't read or research. Also, the Lawn Mower comes with 2 adjustable guard choices that are supposed to be used with it. Your NOT supposed to use the trimmer without them and proper "angle of attack" is also required. This is described in the included users guide. People using it improperly might as well use a safety or straight razor to shave their nether region.
With that said, I'm not slamming the Brio line of products by any means. I have the Brio Beardscape and it's hands down a superior trimming tool.

I was pretty young then and looking back I’m glad I was instilled at a young age to always look for other products (this just came into play recently when I was purchasing a conditioner to help with my thinning hair/receding hairline… yes at 18 too lol, and it isn’t a new issue. Found one with the exact same ingredients I needed at half the price, absolutely love it). Just take a bit to look for what you need people, don’t buy into marketing. With online purchases and such, I always do my research and watch reviews from people who aren’t sponsored. Bit different when in-store but more or less the same, sometimes do a little research on the spot and I typically know what I’m generally looking for before making a purchase.

I have used the manscaped 4.0 for many months and dont have any problems with it. I knew from the beginning that "skin safe technology" was bullshit--no trimmer doesnt have the risk of cutting you. If youre cutting a sensitive area you should obviously be careful. I have cut myself a few times but I expect some occurrences despite how cautious I try to be. I do like the light. And I have never tried to use it in the shower. It seems appealing but using any electronics in the shower just sounds like a terrible idea to me, regardless of how water resistant it is.

If you really want to go in depth with it then sure you can finish up after you get out of the shower after everything is dried up. Like I said in the comment above, the 3.0 and 4.0 are both amazing, the 4.0 is nice because it has the battery indicator letting you know when you’re running low. Hope this helps😁

I ended up getting a Braun groomer half price in the black Friday sales. It seems good so far for simple home use. The functionality is more varied then Manscaped and the price was way less. I’m honestly glad that I stumbled upon your channel today because I actually got to learn something new out of choosing the best razors based on quality and pricing, and also the LED light essentially help you to get a much cleaner shave, especially in areas that are dark and hard to see, especially when you’re bathroom has lights that are never bright enough to see whether or not you shaved off the hair. Although helpful, it definitely wouldn’t help me much as I’m pretty much as blind as a bat (not joking either, without my glasses, I can’t even read large bold text and signs, and to top it all off, whenever I look at an eye chart without my glasses, the chart literally looks as though it is just a blank white sheet of laminated paper, and not even the “old man squint” works to help these 21 year old eyes to read the boldest of signs) but anyways, overall, the light helps to see those remaining little almost invisible stubborn wisps or patches of hair that you somehow ended up missing, due to the darn razor gliding completely over the hair and yet it *STILL* proceeds to not cut a single one of the stubborn survivors, and it’s honestly so much worse than it has to be, due to my current blindness. So yeah, thank you for the insightful information about this topic! Hope you have a great rest of your day!

I appreciate your honesty in this video. However, I just bought the 4.0 for me and my husband (separate trimmers) and I tried it for the first time and I was absolutely blown away. But this is probably due to the completely underwhelming options for female trimmers... I've had quite a few female marketed trimmers and they are all just absolutely terrible. So when I tried this trimmer and it cleaned everything up I'm a single swipe without having to go back over everything 20 times it 100% made me feel confident about my purchase. I will say though, I used it with the guard because I am forever scared of nicking my lady bits, and I was slightly disappointed that it doesn't glide over the skin very easy. Didn't nick myself and maybe I was being too cautious, I was very aware of how I was holding it, making sure the back was level with my skin and not going in the way I wanted to and holding it at those right angles. But it was kind of hard to keep an even pace with the thing because I felt like the back of the trimmer wasn't slick enough...like pulling something rubber over your skin and it kinda sticks and jumps as you pull it along. But still, it took 2 minutes to completely trim everything and I've never had a trimmer half as good as this one.

    • @meganwoehl5277
      @meganwoehl5277 2 года назад +12

One more thing to add, I wish male trimmers came with the guards some female trimmers come with, where the guard is like a whole shell that slides over the top of the unit instead of just the back. I liked this on my female trimmers because it meant you could hold it at any angle you wanted, push in as hard as you wanted, and you were never at risk of your skin and the blade coming into contact. I'm sure this resulted in a less smooth/close trim, but it really helped with the nerves while trimming a place you couldn't fully see.

Another warning sign for any product. If it comes in a super big n' fancy packaging, but it is a relatively inexpensive product (eg you expect a fancy box with a 10000$ Rolex, not a 100$ Casio). You are paying for that box (which most people then throw out), and a lot of the money you spent is going into the box (which is part of marketing and product retention) rather than into the product. The box makes the item look like it is quality when it isn't.

I use my Lawnmower 4.0 in the shower and it works fine. Granted, I am not using the guard on the default trimmer, I use the 1mm guard, which helps pull up the hair to get trimmed even when I'm wet. I only nicked myself once and it was when I was trying to cut at a 90 degree angle before I started using the 1mm guard, something I knew I shouldn't be doing. So, it seems to work well and as advertised FOR ME. I emphasize that because I do not have very thick body hair as some other people might and it doesn't grow as fast as other guys, so this might just work well for my situation. Overall, the lawnmower 4.0 works perfectly well for me, plus the ball deodorant is great, or at least I really like it. So, I feel I've gotten what I needed from it. That, plus the LED works well for me because the lighting in my shower is kinda crap and I'm black. I need the extra light to see what I'm doing down there. Lol

A lot of what you say is true, but owning a few things I will say that I personally have never nicked myself with it. I think you shouldn't shave in the shower because a bigger issue is if you don't trim regularly you can potentially clog your drain and/or rust the blades easier. Another "benefit" is you can get it for a little cheaper with the promo codes they constantly push out to get people to buy it. The light does actually "work" having the light shine against the hairs makes them stand out a bit more so you don't miss a hair as much but really overhyped and not really necessary.

Couldn't agree more. I had the Lawn Mower 4.0 and the battery life out of the box was no more than 30 minutes (they advertise 90). Within 6 months the battery had MAYBE 5 minutes of usage before dying. They claim to have an over-charge protection circuit built in, but every time I picked it up off the charger it was very hot to the touch, which made me think it wasn't working. I just contacted them (outside of their 90 day warranty), so we'll see what they decide to do. I've had it less than six months.

I know I'm here commenting 1 year after you posted this, but this is a great video.
I've been on the market for a new nose hair trimmer and I heard that Manscape has one of those as well. So I simply got curious about their products in general and here I am now.
You hit the nail on the head though- I've come to the realization that any product promoted by a RUclipsr is PROBABLY bad. I tried Raycon recently and while the sound was solid, I got less than 8 hours of battery life in a single charge. Their products claims to last 16 hours. Or was it more even?
It's as you said; these products aren't good, they just had more funding for their PR.
But thank you. Now I'll look elsewhere for that nose hair trimmer. haha

I accidentally bought the peak hygiene plan. Was annoying when I got billed for it, but they were able to get it cancelled and refunded when I emailed them about it.
I personally don't have any problems with the 3.0, been using it for a year or two now. I use the guard they provide on the penultimate height, so I don't cut myself, and then I take the guard off and go around again very carefully.
I don't use it in the shower for the reasons you mentioned, it makes it very difficult to shave.
I find the LED light useful because the lighting in my bathroom isn't great, and it can be hard to see when shaving under the sack and around the back.
That being said, it does sound like the Brio Beardscape is superior in a lot of ways and for a cheaper price. Though I do like that the Lawnmower is smaller, as it makes it easier to get into tight spaces.
Either way, I'm happy with my Lawnmower for now, but maybe I'll look into some of Brio's products in the future.

I own a manscape lawn mower 3.0 and it's my first electric razor so i dont have much to compare on, however i've liked it for the most part especially as just a beard trimmer. Gets a close shave, comes with guards, and i like its sleek design. as a ball trimmer though, I learned pretty early though that using it in the shower actually sucks imo, however even outside of one it does seem to knick me often for being skin safe technology, like every 1 out of 4-5 shaves. I dont go crazy or anything, i just trim just under and opposite the direction of the hair, i dont push it hard into my skin or anything yet it still manages to grab and knick my skin. Its more annoying than painful or anything else really. However one issue reoccurs more often and idk if other people also experience it, but when im trimming without a guard, the metal tongs will literally poke and stick inside of the hair pore. it can hurt a bit sometime but moreso i think it causes the shave bumps even ingrown hairs sometimes which can be worse imo. I still oddly like it though im kind of getting fed up with that particular issue so im thinking of buying a new one. Thank you for a great recommendation btw.

I have the Lawnmower 4.0 and use it every so often, but I mostly use it to trim my facial hair rather than the nether regions.
When it came in on the box it said you should first charge it, but I was able to use it out of the box just fine and for a good while might I add, but that's probably because I don't trim daily.
I was smart enough to understand that I was paying for a sort of subscription so I went to the page to check it out, I set it to every year so that my room wouldn't be filled with extra blades and such for a product I don't use that much to warrant those amount of extra blade, but I forgot I did that so when I was on vacation I suddenly got a mail that a package was sent.
Speaking of before I went I decided to trim down below because I didn't want to have sweaty balls on vacation, and I nicked myself a couple of times, but I can't really blame the trimmer for it because it was first time doing it and I didn't have a way to get a good look at everything.
Overall I think it's a decent trimmer, but it's probably not the best one for somebody who's trimming and shaving themselves daily.

The battery is plenty on the lawnmower 4.0. Every time I use it, it only goes down one bar. I've never cut myself and yes, do not use in the shower. I never tried but knew that is a dumb idea because of the hair being wet. Also the it comes with 2 attachment lengths. The bigger one sucks. The smaller one is good. Given the prices are about the same between the two shavers, I don’t think the 4.0 is a bad deal. Can’t speak for the brio, but the manscaped shaver works well in my experience. The only issue I’ve encountered so far is after a couple years of use, the blade has fallen apart. The replacement blades are about $20, which isn’t too much more than those of the brio. Perhaps the brio shaver is a better deal in the long run, but I don’t think it’s fair to call the manscaped shaver a bad product. It’s still far better than anything I’ve bought in-store. Plus, if you have a code to use, it’s actually cheaper than the brio.

I even use it at 90 degrees at some spots on my neck when lining my beard and not once has it ever nicked me and it gets a really nice close shave. My only complaint is one of the guards which has an adjustable length selector on it I can't get it to clip onto the trimmer. I've probably just missed something in the manual though so just consider that user error lol.

Funny story, I've been using only those trimmers literally forever, like since I was teenager. I thought getting cut with a electric trimmer was a myth untill I tried one of those aesthetic Chinese trimmers last week. You just gotta bend and flex that adjustable guard to get it on, almost impossible to get on/off, the tab hangs out a bit but it works fine.

Ceramic and titanium blades, adjustable length blades and speed, RGB LED display, uses a generic phone charger and has a 2.5 to 3 hour charge. Blades about the same width as the manscape though, but I use it to shave everything including my evil looking eyebrows. I mean what is it with turning 50 and hair growth getting out of control, I was always hairy, but after I hit 50, boom, Chewbacca.
