I’m glad you spreading this. Bout a year ago I got an engine from a customer car they got a new one. And the old one the chain broke but the heads were good. I put new chains, tensioners guides and sprockets, oil pan reseal and all the timing covers resealed. This guy just started the engine up without doing this I had it in storage for 2 months trying to sell it. He even tested compression at my house too. He complained and said his motor blew up and I told him we said to prime it. He never came to get his money back. He knew he fucked up.
We've had an oldsmobile 307 come back after we built it because the customer said that he could do the rest, we told him make sure you pressure prime the engine before start up he said no problem i got this, sure enough the engine cam back with the camshaft locked up, the timing gear sheard off, and the oil pan full of antifreeze, i don't why the pan had coolant in it, took off the wrong cap maybe, oldsmobile doesn't have their oil on the valve cover its on the front of the engine
It took forever to get it primed, I actually set the drill on fire. Remember rotate the motor a quarter turn then spin, repeat until oil is coming out everywhere.

Also have someone turn the crank several times while you prime the pump. Fill those oil galleys & passages!
Yes, I turn the engine over several times when priming it. Need to add that to the video. 🙌
To bad you can't do that on modern engines so unless you're working on an engine thats over 20yrs old its not all that helpful
You can prime late model engines. I’ll have to make a video on that and on making a priming tank at home.
@@MrDanielSoliz I've always primed mine by pulling the fuel pump fuse and cranking them over until you see pressure on the gauge
Old cars/engines are FUN to work on, new cars are a PITA.
@@ercost60 to each there own, they're not that difficult once you have the proper understanding of how they work.
@@Valverde713 if you take the spark plugs out it will turn over even faster.

Should be standard on all fossil cars. An oil pressure prime pump.
I was surprised how long it took first time I tried!

Exactly, I’ve smoked more than one drill in my life. 🙌
Nice video, thanks for sharing 🇺🇸💪
Thanks for watching!
"What's the oil pressure?"
"All"
Lol
If in doubt douse it in oil
👍🏽
This is not necessary the oil pressure will be up there in a few seconds😅
Just watched a video on a new build and them saying “ I’ve never seen cam bearing lock up like that, and that fast.”
