  • This 2004 Kia Sorrento stalled at idle, and would not restart. At first I was going to attack the P0335 crank sensor DTC. Luckily, a quick relative compression test was able to to pinpoint other issues and lead me in the correct direction. Another win for the uScope. Which is becoming one of my favorite tools of all time!

Something to note, those high peaks could indicate an exhaust valve not opening...basically whatever cylinders are companions, one May have no exhaust valve event causing that cylinder to have 2 compression stokes with in the 720, and as you know it's companion would be on compression during the others exhaust... Hence the higher compression (higher amperage draw) because 2 cylinders are compressing at the same time...if that makes sense...

Yes, that one high peak is definitely suspect. Of maybe more than just a low compression cylinder. They don’t want to put anything into the car. So probably never know. Would’ve been interesting to find out though. Pretty sure that rig is going to the scrapper unfortunately.

@@BigDogDiagnostics pretty much sounds like every car I work on 😆 I almost never get full closure lol

Compression is leaking into another cylinder it seems. This can explain why you are getting a high current peak at every 6th spike.
