Those bins are like panning for gold! Except it's even easier, because, like the original Robocop, cinematic gold indeed can be found. And once in awhile, a cataclysmically bored Walmart employee will arrange them all in a beautiful spiral.

Usually honest trailers ridicule the trailers/films, but THIS was nothing but positive & gave a great nod to the original Robocop.

I watched this as a young child and my parents didn't even flinch. But this is also in an era where you could wander as far away from home as you wanted as long as you got back before the street lights came on.

I started watching the new Robocop film, turned if off after 15 mins and ended up watching the original again instead. Best action film ever made!

I enjoyed how in the first Robocop, the corporation had some corrupt, evil people in it but as a whole OCP wasn't evil. They made the protagonist, had other plans to fix Detroit, and even helped Robocop out when the evil members were culled.
Then in the remake they are all evil all the time, because money is scary I guess?
Well, that part of the movie was supposed to be a parody of capitalism so of course most of the business men are going to be borderline cartoon caricatures just short of twirling mustaches and going "Nee, ee ee ee! This will surly make me more money!"
Actually the whole corporation is rotten including the boss. They just wanted someone to take the fall and RoboCop was more than happy to oblige. For now.
The decision-makers do tend to be evil. That's how they get all that money and power... make some 'friends', wait for the back turn, then stab. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam. Indulge in freaky stuff with prostitutes and gamble like a fool to distract yourself from how awful a person you've become. It's the whole... freedom to "succeed" in the sense of "become a plague on the same society that uplifted you" thing. Which, let's face it, needs to no longer be a thing. White knighting for the corporations doesn't help...

Well, that was the point exactly the movie tried to make about ED-209: that it was dangerous and inefficient but they wanted to secure its production anyway. Dick Jones says it himself: "who cares if it doesn't work?"

Please, please, please watch the original. You need to look for more in movies like this than a surface-level shininess. We, the consumer, CAN hold Hollywood accountable for what it shows us and if we hold them to a higher standard they CAN deliver.
By sheer math, for now, they just don't have to. Making an average yawn-fest out of a recognized name is safer than making something that is fresh and creative because there are much fewer financial statistics and the market is less predictable. This means they can intentionally put in a minimum of effort and make back the amount they want with very little risk.
Hold Hollywood accountable! Like the good things, shame the bad.

I saw Robocop when i was 11 and I ended just fine.
I too saw it first when I was very young along with Terminator 1 and other lovely gory 80s movies.
I'm so grateful to my dad and friends for showing me awesome films.
What's next, Die Hard, Rambo, Rocky, Lethal Weapon, and Back to the Future? Movie industry have nothing else better to do then just doing Remakes and Reboots.

Robocop was a brilliant movie. Not only did it deliver on action and a great story but it had a great satirical message and, yeah, it was an allegory for the death and resurection of Jesus. Name one other movie like that?

Absolutely. Back in the 80's, they made a cool movie and it usually got an R rating. Lots of people would see it - including many teens that rarely got carded - and it got a name as a great movie. They'd then make a fortune off of video sales and rentals where parents wanted the good ones for their collection and most stores never noticed the rating before renting to kids. They'd even make another handful of cash selling the t.v. rights somewhere down the road. Nowadays, you have about a week to make all your money in the theater before everyone watches bootleg copies for free online.

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree about the "original always being better." David Cronenberg's remake of _The Fly_ and John Carpenter's remake of _The Thing_ are often considered on the same level as, if not better than, the films they were based on. Just because the original was great doesn't give filmmakers the excuse not to try. Modern filmmakers suck all the substance out of their stories by pandering to what sells; explosions, techno-porn, and scantily clad women.
And for the record, what I said was a continuation of ArmyGringo's initial joke, which refers to the film _Tropic Thunder_.
Now we just need a Honest Trailer for Terminator and all badass 80's cyborgs will be accounted for.

In the 90's, I pumped many a quarter into the 3rd person arcade shooter based on the movie. The original black & green screen gameboy had a similar game.
