Great video, I love the cinematography that you are incorporating these days! Totally agree with the message. In my most recent video about how I got my first data science internship, I talk about the types of projects I did that set me up for success. I also think tying your projects to the specific industries or companies that you are applying to can set you apart from the crowd. Would love your thoughts on the matter!
Agree. Newcomers, however, might not have a particular industry in mind, which is why I suggest personal interests. If you are targeting certain sectors then definitely tailor your projects accordingly. Thanks for your comment!
It's like you read my mind. I literally made a github account and I started looking into making a blog yesterday. Thank you so much for bringing this content it is reaffirming to know that I am on the right path.
im not a programmer and not into software stuff. i tried using github, i couldnt understand anything. can you suggest a source from where i can know more about github usage?
In strategic marketing there is a model RDB. Commonly it used as a brand benchmark, but I use it to sell myself. It simply consist of 3 questions: Resonance: Why do you need me? What can I do? Differentiation: Why I am better, then others? What unique skills do I have? It can be GIS analysis, biology or other stuff. In data science it calls as specialization. Believe: Why I can trust all you speak about yourself? Proof it! So, key message - job is not based on your experience( but not at all), but on your expertise and how valuable you are. Thanks for what you`re doing, Python Programmer. It really helpful (but I cant donate now, cause I am a poor bitch from the europenian asshole. But one day I`ll do.)
Wish you had released this video before I paid for the data analyst path for python on Dataquest, which I'm thoroughly enjoying at the moment. I'll give coursera a shout afterwards since it offers better value for a data scientist path provided the quality of education is similar or better. Love your channel, keep it up!!
I recently found out your channel! Best thing that could happen to me this quarantine. Your videos on online courses like dataquest and john hopkins course, and many videos like this have helped me immensely to get a different perspective on the data science field! Thanks a lot!
You are absolutely right. The only way I was able to land my data scientist job with no experience is by showing off my ML and data analysis projects and be able to explain everything in them.
It looks like you have conveniently placed cameras in every corner of your city 😂. BTW I love not only your video editing skills but also your valuable tips. Regards from Spain.
At least with this quarantine I found amazing videos. Currently I am doing my masters in Statistics and now ready to study python as a new language and use it to play with data. Thank you.
I like your videos, practical and quite interesting video shots of the nature too :). I used to do photography as a hobby, the example given really "talks" to me.
I agree with what you said. But this advice although very practical is hard to implement for someone who is new to Data science. When you have so many learnings (python, statistics, ML algos) going on in this vast field of Data science, it is difficult to work on projects and blog at the same time. Since, you are new to this learning at that time with no experience in hand, you'll never see the larger picture and always ponder on what kind of project and what would you do on it. Working on a project and blogging about it requires a lot of planning and thought which could be intimidating for fresher like me.
The substance is incredibly valuable. And I like the scenery changes but after watching a couple of videos the announcing of the change gets tedious. You can just jumpcut to new locations without describing what you're doing. We promise we won't be confused.
Great guidance..loved it..can you please make a video on step by step procedure to become data scientist and maximum time periods for each subject in data science?
There is a great scene in "Entourage" where Turtle and Ari are discussing a new business that Turtle wants to start. After some back and forth, Turtle says to Ari, "I can pull this off Ari". Ari replies, "Come back when you can prove it". I love this line as it's a way to remind people that telling employers that you are good enough isn't enough any more. Too many applicants these days. PROVE you can do what you say you can do. Let me see your portfolio and let me see your thought process.
I have totally no experience doing any data science projects. I thought doing coursework that is coequal to the ones that get data science jobs that I'd get in. The rationale as to why someone would hire someone with a portfolio sunk in because of this video. I might have to alter my personal curriculum by getting into github and joining some kaggle competitions even if I fail miserably.
Hi, thanks for your great video. As you mentioned, for real projects we need to clean data before using them. Could you please make a video on how we put the collected data into a proper data structure and make them ready to use?
I really liked this video! Great talk! I just finished my internship and really liked to play with data sets to answer questions by doing cool graphs and stuff using R. This video convinced me to run a project on my favorite subject: Mosses responses to light and more global plant responses to light under climate change! Time to start a blog and maybe film the project, the way it goes and stuff! I'm so exiting about it ahahah Do you have and website recommandation to write the blog?
I just landed a job at the Office for National Statistics, but im worried if im competent enough for the role- Analytical Researcher. The essentials for the role are little from the job description, - but considering the high pay, i feel like theyre expecting a lot from me. I have only 3 months experience as a research assistant outside of my academics (relevant work experience). Any advice?
@@gilesmcmullen Thank you for replying. Well my first day starts on the 1st July. Perhaps i could speak with a mentor upon starting but, just not confident at all with my Python abilities. Hi jiles! I follow your videos, and I like it so much! But I have a question: I’m currently doing the python specialization on coursera, I’ve just completed the 3rd course on machine learning and now I’m facing the 4th on text mining. So I learned the python basis, pandas to clean data, Matplotlib to visualize data, and I’ve been introducted to machine learning. I have studied the basics of sql too, So, do you think that by the end of the specialization, I will be ready to try to apply for a job? Someone ask other competences concerned on spark and hadoop (I don’t understand what those software really do) and tableau or other tools for data visualization. Please clarify my ideas because I don’t know what should I learn! Thank you!!
is IBM professional data science course in Coursera good for a data science beginner to learn and get the skills required for to become a data scientist.
I'm still in the beginning phase. Will any project help? Like doing some basic analysis of datasets found online to solve basic questions? I'm obviously not at data science requirement but I was wondering if small projects like that can at least get some sort of data analyst position. What's your thoughts?
Great video! I know projects are important but I've really been struggling for ideas. Do you know of any good ones by beginners I can use for inspo? Or do you have a way of thinking that helps you come up with project ideas?
