Not early days at all, by the time of painkiller judas been around touring, playing and releasing great albums around 18 years (i could be wrong) what does this tell us? Never is too late to make another great album, Painkiller should be a heavy metal flag.
Rob's voice sounds like he uses the effect that doubles his voice in another tone during the choruses. Actually it's very strange thing as it sounds too unnatural. I've heard the similar effect on Deep Purple's shows from 1987 to 1993 (especially on Child In Time), but it was removed from all of the official live releases.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recording wasn't showing his actual voice? Old recordings like such often only takes in the high intonation of the sound and do away with the bass. Same like the guitars and bass is almost non existence here.
