Many thanks to you all lads. Must admit that my credulousness and bumpkin Appalachian Kentucky upbringing and deep culture contributed to my having been duped in the past. Great channel you all have. Thinking about moving to France and enjoying the quality of life enjoyed better simply in the vital daily proper sit down meals with wines, cheeses and proper 20 British ounce pints of Bitter and regional ales. Won't even start maundering on about single malt Whiskies and boiled puddings.
You were visiting the Basilica of Saint Therese of Lisieux. The groundbreaking was in 1929 and it was completed in 1954. It was funded by donations and contributions from countries throughout the world. The Basilica did suffer some minor damage during the war. St. Therese of Lisieux is also known by some as; “The Little Flower.” She was an inspiration and testimony of the love of God and neighbor. She is the patron saint of florists, foreign missions, loss of parents, priests, and the sick (especially those with TB).
The ground breaking is what the plaque referenced in Latin when they first walked up. Roughly translated it says: Behind here is the Basilica in honor of St Therese of the Infant Jesus The corner stone was placed harkening back to her birthday, September 30, 1929 In this case the birthday of September 30 is the date of her death in 1897 and refers to the date she was born into heaven.
Ste Therese de Lisieux is very important in France. My grand mother gave me an image of her for protection when I was a child. She was very religious. My kids did a pilgrimage there before their first communion.
@@janetpendlebury6808 Maybe, Josee Allyn should have added "... amongst the catholic community " because not everyone knows about Saints. It takes years to learn, I'm in my 70's and still learning.
Beautiful beautiful Church, I pray to Saint Theresa everyday for protection of my my children and and grandchildren absolutely beautiful Church so much history in France such a beautiful video have a great day guys..😀💕👍🌹🇨🇦
I just returned from a trip to Paris and Normandy (I’m from the US) I love France and all the little towns, specialty shops and foods. A boulangerie in every town! Heaven. I could just watch these types of videos all day.
When I was stationed near Evreux 64-66 I visited many WWII sites. We would go to St Mere Eglise, ( where the paratrooper hung on the church all day, until the citizens rescued and hid hin on D Day) for a commorative Para jump out of C47 aircraft. Many beautiful towns and cities. I have a large book about Pays D'Angelo, and the manor houses there. (MANOR HOUSESIN NORMANDY, Regis Faucon/Yves Lescroart) beautiful places. Some I've seen, others I would like to visit. Keep traveling, videoing. Life is not all about work. Thnx for sharing.
I am sitting here watching this lovely video of the Basilica of St. Teresa, The Little Flower. I am a graduate of Little Flower Academy, a girls only school, in Vancouver, BC. The school is over 100 years old and was named for St. Teresa who is immortalized in this beautiful basilica. Thank you Sean for sharing your experience, I absolutely loved it.
What an amazing Basilica. I would be in there for a very long time soaking in all the beauty inside. Thank you for showing this beautiful building and grounds. Really nice town and the church bells so lovely to hear. Nice cheeses too. ❤❤❤
Sean, you're a man after my own heart! Buying copper cookware at a fair, visiting a cathedral (or basilica), and bringing home some local groceries...Don't forget to visit the local cemeteries. Art, architecture, landscape and history all in one place.
Thanks, Sean, for taking us all on another wonderful adventure in France! The Basilica of Saint Therese is quite impressive! Nice of you to take us all along for a tour. It must truly be something to experience in person. You have such a lovely family! So Happy for YOU! 👍🙂
Hi Sean, Thanks for another road trip in France, The Basilica of Saint Therese de Lisieux, was breath taking, and her history is amazing. The village was quaint and quiet. As a cheese lover (who isn't) myself, the cheese looked creamy and yummy. The Italians also have a lot of smelly cheese's as well, get past that and the taste is marvelous. The sausage looked pretty good as well. Nice to have your son with you. Thanks for a day out. Love from N.Y.
Love your videos Sean ……one of the things which really stands out to me when you are out and about in the towns is how clean everything looks ……no litter ! That’s how it used to be here in the U.K. but now we are wallowing in rubbish everywhere and certain individuals just do not care ….they think someone else should clear up after them…..! 😢 I’m also enjoying seeing you at Billy’s……what an amazing project the Convent is ….!x
Hi Sean, a note for local history overlap but the Lisieux Shine to St. Therese has a step-sister shrine near me called the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, Michigan. The money raised to build it was largely generated by Fr. Charles Coughlin from his radio broadcasts in the Great Depression when he had 30 million followers. I appreciated your visit to the Shrine as I would never have seen it but for your video. Thank you for a wonderful virtual experience 😊
That is wonderful to know of someone near the sister shrine! My husband supports them and they send us lovely prayer cards, rosaries etc. all the time! Therese is very dear to us . We have been to her shrine in France, I wish you could go there too. We are about to head out to France soon and I am (with no talent or expertise !) thinking of making a rather amateur vlog of how we travel from the USA , cheaply to France. I hear of so many people who want to enjoy this wonderful country but are put off by the price (of guided tours) , the language and negotiating the transport systems. We have done it for 59 years and my husband is quite lame now but if we can manage it, anyone can! We will try to make it possible for Americans to 'have an adventure" , so keep watching, you never know if we achieve our goal of making France accessible to everyone, of any income and any age. Meanwhile I really love Sean and his 'adventures'! Happy 'adventures' to you too !
Yes you are very fortunate to be living in a country with all of the beautiful architecture everywhere and stunning cathedrals and churches. I love hearing the church bells ring. The vibrant colors inside the basilica is jaw dropping. Thank you for sharing your day trip with us and for making my mouth water as you sampled the Camembert cheese. xx
My grandmother visited the Basilica and have no words to describe the beauty thank you Sean to take us there I probably never will be there absolutely great blog
Thank you so much! Your copper find is amazing. My room mate, Mom (86) burned our copper pot that has a stainless steel lining.. watching your video's I was able to save it and it proudly has it's place back in the kitchen, it's not perfect but it isn't black and white anymore and Mom feels a lot better She is limited now to the slow cooker, bread machine and dishwasher anything that has an automatic shut off in case she has a spontaneous nap lol (dishwasher- the washing dishes kitchen flood is a tail for another day 🏊.) Love her so much! Do until you can't, believe in yourself and ask for help if you need it. so many of us don't ask for help (like Mom) 🙏
The Basilica was stunning..especially the domed ceilings and the numerous stained glass windows. The architecture and site were so well maintained. Cheese shops are so extensively stocked with every imaginable type. Having Tom as the tour guide/interpreter is helpful in a pinch when your French needs a little help👍🏻🥰
Thank you so much for visiting here and showing us. The second line calls St. Theresa of the child Jesus, a well-known title of this Saint. She entered the cloistered Carmelite Monastery at age 15 and died at 24 from tuberculosis. She is known for her "simple way." She is a powerful intercessor for causes and needs, was named a doctor of the Roman Catholic Church for her prayer life and spirituality. She is always shown with roses as rose petals fell after her death...a prayer says "pick me a rose from the garden of heaven and send it to me..." so much more about this powerful Saint...
The inscription mentions the dedication for "Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face" of Lisieux. Roman numerals born: January 2, 1873 and died September 30, 1897. She was the youngest Carmelite Nun ever and died of tuberculosis. She is my personal patron saint. Thank you for sharing her Basilica. ~ Deaconess Deena, California
Thanks for the trip to the outdoor sale. I know you were looking specifically for copper, but for the future, don't walk quite so fast. LOL. Love the trip to the Basillica, you're right, it is a beautiful place. The beauty of the stained glass brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for this tour. Y'all have a Blessed day.
This brought back memories of a very special day of pilgrimage to the cathedral, the basilica shrine, and especially the cloister of Ste. Therese. And down the road from the basilica was a little bakery where I bought the most delicious strawberry/rhubarb tart! actually the basilica was built well into the last century after the canonization of Ste. Therese in the 1920s.
What a beautiful breathtaking church!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!! I am from Texas and our historic churches are so so very young compared to Europe's, so when I get the chance to view such beauty I am so taken back! Once again thank you for taking us with you on your adventure! I wish I could go to your road side fairs or antique stores and shop! If I could I would fill my house with all the treasures I could find and afford! And what amazes me is the antiques are really not that expensive! Here in the States a piece of furniture over 50 years old or older NOT even as nice and in wonderful shape are so expensive where you, Billy, Michael, Stephanie or Phillip are an affordable price!
My hubby brought some cheese from Switzerland. After he bought it,he putted the cheese in the cabin of the t ruck he drove. After 15 minutes he couldn't endure the smell of the cheese anymore and he stopped on a parking place and put the cheese out of the cabin into the trailer in a wooden box.The cheese was delicious but the smell was terrible. Weeks later you could still smell it in the trailer, hahaha.

I've just looked it up on google and the basilica was built after Theresa was made a saint in 1925 but the architecture may well be looking back to the 19th century.
Thanks for taking us along Sean. I appreciate it. I will never see France and I love it. You found some beauties today~! I make my own cheese and wish I could have tried the one you did! What a day!
what a beautiful cathedral, glad thats not on the neglected list, looks like you had a great day, with some bargains. hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend
Thanks Sean. I was there in Lisieux in October. Thanks for going inside the Basilica and showing us the beauty. I had that cheese in Bayeau . It was baked and served with fresh cut vegetables. I enjoyed it with a glass of the apple cider.

I've just looked it up on google and the basilica was built after Theresa was made a saint in 1925 but the architecture may well be looking back to the 19th century.
Wow the Basilica is absolutely amazing
Thanks for taking us along Sean. I appreciate it. I will never see France and I love it. You found some beauties today~! I make my own cheese and wish I could have tried the one you did! What a day!
With it ,you need a glass (or two )of good red wine !!! Welcome to my country...
I visited many cool markets in France.
Thanks for taking us along
what a beautiful cathedral, glad thats not on the neglected list, looks like you had a great day, with some bargains. hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend
Makes me feel homesick. I'm from Mayenne but live in Thailand...
Great to see this video, since so many of these videos which feature France do not showcase Normandy.
Lovely video , love your adventures, you have a lovely family , 🙂
Thanks Sean. I was there in Lisieux in October. Thanks for going inside the Basilica and showing us the beauty. I had that cheese in Bayeau . It was baked and served with fresh cut vegetables. I enjoyed it with a glass of the apple cider.
Lisieux! Ste. Therese! Lucky you!
We call this a flea market in the US.

Sean your positivity & hard work is an inspiration to me & others too. God bless you.
