    If you had told me 4 years ago that I would NOT be alone in France but rather the two of you would be LIVING here, I would have eaten my shoe.
    Fortunately nobody told me that 4 years ago, so my shoe will remain uneaten.
    (The house is even more beautiful in person let me tell you!!)

      @@Booboonancy ; - D Your comment cracked me up! I had a similar reaction when I saw the "before" of her son Nathaniel Drew's apartment that she helped him change because to me it looked like it had already been redone recently (I do prefer the "after" though!). But actually I really admire people who are willing to spend the time and money to make their home truly their own. I've felt low-key tortured by certain things in my apartment for over TWENTY YEARS because it felt "wasteful" to change them, and in retrospect it would have been so worth the money! I'm sure there are people who are truly indifferent to aesthetics, but for me, being in surroundings I personally find beautiful feels soothing and inspiring. And the opposite is like a low-grade itch I can never fully scratch!

    None of this really matters. We are all just passing through for a short while. Everything is borrowed. You had a perfect home in Oregon in the most stunning setting. I have the feeling that once this is all done, in a couple of years you will grow bored again and start the whole process over again, somewhere else. Love your dog though, and hope you spend more time in nature - instead of obsessing over the mundane. As you say in your introduction about yourself - it's about the 'internal' not the 'external'. All this materialism and need/desire for so much stuff is really not what it's about. It's a weight. More to clean, insure, dust and on and on. Could be lost in the blink of an eye by fire or theft or a multitude of other life occurrences. Sometimes that wisdom comes with age. “We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.” Favorite part of the video - the garden and your most precious little dog who I hope is getting the love and affection he/she needs amidst all of the chaos. I recently lost mine - and despite being a minimalist for decades, it really reminded me that inanimate things mean absolutely nothing - and are just that - 'things'.

    • @cw6778
      @cw6778 5 месяцев назад +3

      Agree, happiness doesn't come from external objects, even though it appears to. For a couple so in to personal growth I cannot believe they can't see they are just repeating what they did in the United States ie. buy a big house and make it look beautiful and then a few years later wonder why it hasn't made them happy. Then think the solution is to move somewhere different and do the same again.......How long until they move to Spain?

    • @gailalbers1430
      @gailalbers1430 5 месяцев назад +7

      well, from that perspective really nothing material matters and should they now move to a cave in the Himalayas ? Interior design is literally an art and she is an artist, a designer a creative. That is the point of this video . If they in the future want to move on and do it again, after getting top euros for this one - that is fine. It’s 😅bivous that a lot of fun and excitement is had by everyone involved in this creative process. Okay isn’t it materialistic to expect to stay in the same house for ever, if the process of designing it , is what really floats your boats ? just saying …🎉❤😂

    • @cw6778
      @cw6778 5 месяцев назад +1

      If you are watching it for ideas, art and design then it’s great, I have no problem with it (or buying and selling houses for profit, or living in one!).
      I was watching with the content and feel of what I’d seen on the rest of channel in mind. With its themes of self growth, change and the internal world. Just read the channel description, It’s everything this wasn’t.
      So the difference between the two seemed jarring to me. Perhaps she should have her own channel and keep the design separate?

    • @Jts449
      @Jts449 3 месяца назад +2

      They enjoy it and are surrounding themselves with beauty. Then they’re sharing with us. There’s more depth and graciousness in it all than these projections give room for. Also, people get to change. Do new things. As many times as they want. Or don’t. It’s our choice to make for ourselves.

    The house is beautiful and I think if you have the money, creativity, dream and energy for these projects, then go for it. As a minimalist, keeping it small and simple is where my husband and I are at. I am sure your sons are thrilled.

    • @justhere3794
      @justhere3794 Год назад +14

      For sure agree with minimalism. I downsized and donated many items in order to go with the minimalist culture. It was a relief. Now I have a lovely home that sparkles and is mostly white decor. No ornate antiques anymore. Although their house is nice and reminds me of how I used to have one similar to theirs I am so glad I chose the path of small and minimalist. If I get together with family it is fine and we usually aren't into big family meals. We go to venues and drink coffee or tea after at our homes. New era and glad that I am progressive that way as I do not like clutter or collecting momentos either. My son sold his large home and downsized to a luxury high-rise apartment overlooking the gulf. My family does not care about large homes as we did all that back in the early 2000s and 1990s. We have money so it's not because we can't afford it but mostly we like the minimalist culture and the ease of moving around to other homes if we feel like it. To each their own.

      To be honest I find all this "I must have this design of taps and I must have that exact design of rug in that particular place and this item by this one unique designer very,well it goes against the ideas deeply inculcated in me in childhood which as I've been rejecting and throwing them off for decades shows how deeply embedded they are. Maybe it also shows the difference between the USA 'you can have it all" life credo and the older Brit credo of " you'll get what you're given and be grateful".

      I love how you discuss the difference in your energy levels. Very interesting! Have a look at a concept of “Human Design” - there are 5 main types of energy levels and you two fit perfectly into the so called “generator” or maybe even “manifesting generator” for Cecilia- those non stop type of ppl who like the generator bunny have amazing stamina to get stuff done. “Projectors” types on the other hand, like Josh possibly, are the more managerial, supportive types who need more rest and down time. It’s not surprising then that Josh cannot keep up with Cecilia’s energy, nor should he try! I recognise this pattern very well because I am a projector and my husband is a workaholic generator!
      I also have my moon in Cancer so can totally relate to Cecilia’s nesting instinct and having to live in beautiful surroundings. ❤

    Beautiful house! It's a big mistake though, to not get out of the house and go looking in France for interior elements instead of shopping online like Americans do. The country is literally LITTERED with brocantes full of fantastic reclaimed brass hardware, shops of actual basketweavers hand made craftmanship, local potters who make beautiful tiles (or let you design them), and full on high end designers as well. The markets and brocantes range from exclusive historic to rediculously cheap for amazing things, and the country is full of beautiful fabrics etc. There are also auctions everywhere, but hunting for what you like in different regions is a beautiful way to get to know the country, practise your French, and see the variety and beauty thats out there. France is too much about great quality making for centuries to shop in fron of a screen and be bugged over shipping, honestly.
    Thats just one of those things yoy need to dive into and discover, as Americans. If you want cheese, you go to the cheese shop, and the cheese you find there and connections you make with people passionate about what they produce or sell, makes it worth it every single time.
    As creatives it's a mistake to miss out bc you're too impatient and want everything clickable and delivered to your doorstep.
    I'm sure your house will be just as beautiful as you want it to be. I'm just saying it's worth landing and taking in the culture you've got all around you, you'll be surprized. 😉

      The frugal part of me saw dollar signs when she talked about things like replacing the kitchen counter and fridge, but I actually wish I had her comfort spending the money to really personalize my home! Being surrounded every day by things that are beautiful to *you* adds so much subliminal and conscious joy to life, especially if you're an artist. And the opposite is also true, as I've learned to my regret after being low-key tortured by the "good-enough" drapes in my house for 20+ years! I wish I'd had Cecelia's boldness when I moved in, and I can't wait to see her vision come to life. I agree with you that it's sure to be a masterpiece. : - )

    ... I'm a cancer, too, so I can really relate to what wonderful Cecilia is going through, especially with the basket... 😏 So now that we know Cecilia's sign, what about telling us yours too... 😉 Wishing you all the best & power & patience... 😀Love from Crete... 🤗💞💪

    Just finished my grandparents 70+ year old house renovation in Croatia, and OMG I'm 35 year old version of Cecilia. We do not stop until it's done. Your house is already beautiful, can't wait until you make it a home.

    Congratulations on your beautiful home. If you're still trying to round out the baskets, may I suggest filling them with sheets or towels. Stuff them as much as you can, super full, until you get the shape you want and let them sit like that until they stay firmly in the round position you want. Hugs, Carolena

    I can relate to you! I’m a musician and I met my wife as a fellow musician. Since then she’s been decorative artist, interior designer, owned and run an art gallery,designed and started a lighting company, become an artist manager, started and ran a record company, and is now a tarot reader and counsellor, all approached with a similar intensity and energy as I recognise in your great tribute to Cecilia. It can be exciting. It can be exhausting,but it’s always lively!

    Love the house. It's great to see it coming along. Cecilia is a creative whiz. I too need a break when I'm doing a project. I find during those times when I'm resting or walking the ideas I need to move forward just pop into my head. When I slow down I seem to make better decisions. I know you'll find what works for you. Can't wait to see more 🥰

    Cecilia, stuff the laundry baskets full with all that excess paper you have until they take on the exact round shape you want. I think that will work! Your home and property is gorgeous and I can see it will be even more so when you’re finished. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 🍁

    Ha this is me…cancer. My husband needs his breaks for sure. I have to say you both found a wonderful home. One so large I didn’t think it existed in France. I would love to know if this is typical in the countryside there over different regions. Thank you for a great video. You both surely do compliment each other and your manner of expression and speaking is very authentic.

Like you, Cecilia I love interior decorating (I have degrees in graphic design and photography), I understand your excitement and ideas, but please, give yourself a little bit of down time!
