    Since World War II ended in August 1945, there has been a strong international norm against the use of nuclear weapons, reinforced by treaties like the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and various arms control agreements. Nonetheless, there is grave peril, if smaller states cannot protect themselves against larger size powerful countries from applying "MIGHT is RIGHT" territorial acquisition regime, ....there is increasing risk of such small countries to acquire Nuclear Weapons ..leading to all possible risks of miscalculation etc. etc. Indeed, we are again living in "Dangerous Times" ..since end of WWII and the founding of the U.N. in October 1945.

      It has been peaceful for a while until Oct 7. Whose fault? Why did the Palestinian govt not doing much to improve the living standard of its people all this while? Frankly, Hamas has no intention to take care of the ppl but just making use of Islam to consolidate their foothold there. What worse is that Hamas uses the resources which are supposed to be used to take care of its ppl for its military usage. Why do you want such a govt? Hamas is the one creating problems. not Israel.

    • @rashminable
      @rashminable Месяц назад +6

      You should try and learn about all the work Singapore has done with the Palastenians over the decade. Since 2013, 600 Palestinian officials have received training in Singapore, many in our prestigious LKY school of public policy. This is one of the many ways Singapore supported the Palestinian Authority in their struggle for a 2 state solution. You can't have a 2 state solution without good governance. Singapore also has a representative office in Ramallah. Practical steps are more important than flowery speeches.

    • @osiris2u
      @osiris2u Месяц назад +8

      @@rashminable What Singapore has done is well and good in peace-time but it is useless in a conflict, especially when Palestine is occupied by a powerful and merciless invading force. What is needed now from the Global Rest is a very vocal and universal condemnation of Israel's attempted genocide in and the land-grabbing of Gaza and Palestine. That, I'm sorry to say, is disappointingly lacking from Singapore. There are times when one has to stand up for what is morally correct and decent, regardless of one's affiliation/friendship. It is called moral integrity which Singapore, like many Western countries, seems to lack.

Under your claim, can I suggest you demand US to give up Texas, California and other states which are not originally belong to US? China's 56 ethnic groups are long ago united under one China and fairly and equally treated as Chinese. They are enjoying better and richer life under Chinese Government. Be reminded, Taiwan was conquered by Holland in 1624. In 1661 Chinese General took back Taiwan and ousted out Holland. So Taiwan actually belongs to China.

Otherwise you're just showing to everyone that you're easily duped by Western propaganda. Taiwan is an autonomous province of China because of the interrupted civil war. Both China and Taiwan agree to the One-China policy. Even the US officially subscribes to it. FYI, it was the US who removed Taiwan from the UN and put China in its place and on its Security Council. The US was then trying to woo China and get it on the US side against Russia.

    SG is successful primarily due to our ethnic Chinese majority. Because of geopolitical realities, SG is fond of placing vocal Indian leaders on the frontline to mask our majority ethnic Chinese composition. But when the real crunch comes e.g. Covid pandemic, who do we fall back on? Only the really capable and trustworthy ones step up to the plate like Lawrence Wong, Ong Ye Kung, Chan Chun Sing etc. On the other hand, consider a hypothetical leadership comprising only the likes of Tharman, Iswaran, Vivian Balakrishnan, Janil Puthucherry, Shanmugam, Pritam Singh. What happens? You get such impressive speeches in Parliament and in the media so that the average SG IQ might seem to hit the roof at 140. But then, in a period of crisis or even in peaceful times, I believe SG collapses irreversibly in 2 weeks' time!
