      What's crazy about the Usman thing is if that's the case. Is that those medicines contain stimulants and thus are prohibited as a PED.
      USADA and WADA provide lists of ingredients to avoid on the medications. So there literally no excuse. Check the lists and give them a call I'd you have a question

      @vispian7688 well they did their investigation and the conclusion they made (based on the amount they found in his system and the medicine he presented to them ) is that it was from the medicine he took and so they only gaved him 6 month suspension instead of 2 years if he was guilty like jones, tj and others for exemple.
      You can't expect a guy who got pneumonia and is in the middle of weight cutting killing himself to make the weight to think twice before taking a medicine the doctor gaved him for his pneumonia reduce the pain he is in.
      I think people should gave him some slack or at least the benefit of the doubt.

    Actually a lot of guys in the lower weight class also have 1 punch ko power (especially 155er), it's just that the fighters there are a lot harder to ko because they are faster, faster reaction and reflexes, they can react to punches and roll with them better and faster, and they have better cardio and conditioning and so they get tired in their fight less than the fighters from the heavier weight class, and we all know getting tired makes you susceptible to getting ko, also they are more skilled defensively which helps a lot.
    155 is crazy they got the speed of the lower weight classes and the power of the heavier weight classes.
    There isn't a lot of 155er ranked right now who doesn't have a ko lose on their record, which says a lot about how hard it is to not get killed in that division and reach the top.

    I'll edit this comment after watching the video but .y knee here reaction to the title/thumbnail is that I personally cannot make a case for Alex being "a GOAT" or in the conversation.
    To keep it short until I can properly form an opinion - achieving the right to join the conversation has one non-negotiable for me and that's overcoming variance. The easiest and most common way to measure this longevity - time at the top. But it's wider than that. It's overcoming all of the variances involved in fighting, - of which there is a LOT, most of it sits outside of the actual bout. The styles, the injuries, the opponent changes, the outcomes of fights you have nothing to do with even, forcing you to take a different route in your career, fighting for your life in a half empty arena etc. To over come all of that, time after time and still win and then go on to do the same at the highest level, that's what GOAT means to me.
    But the fighter must overcome variance, time after time. It's like poker in that regard. Pose this question to any tournament poker player: would you rather enter the WSOP as normal, but you get 2X the prize (so around $24million) or you get a guaranteed spot at the final table, don't need to play any hands whatsoever but you only win half (so around 6 million). Every single one of them will say give me the final table spot. That puts you at 9 out of around 10,000 players - 10,000 other players you would have to do better than. Day in, day out playing against all sorts of players with different styles, some smarter, some dumber, all posing some sort of threat. Playing for 12+ hours for multiple days is a very real and common possibility. To bypass that is worth half the pot any way you cut it. And the reason they'd all take it is because they all know, any truly good and dedicated player can win a final table, even against the best in the world, it's hard but it's nowhere near as hard as running the gauntlet over and over.
    On the flip side, ask all those same players whether winning just the final table is as impressive as having won the tournament as intended, and they will all say it's not even comparable. For that same reason, they hadn't proven they were better, time after time, against all comers.
    Again, what he has done is incredible and continues to be incredible but he is in a situation that is completely unique.

    Not sure if Slacky J will read this but I'd really love more coverage of ONE events and other non-garbage promotions outside of the UFC. I'm not a patron boi but it'd be nice to have a section dedicated to deeper breakdowns of the cards, even if it's at the cost of breakdowns of the Apex slop. A lot of the time the ONE coverage largely consists of acknowledging there was a ONE card on, it was pretty good and just a mention of the good fights with no real deeper dive like there is with the UFC content. I'd rather hear your opinions on Nico Carillo vs Saemapetch than your thoughts on the bums fighting outside of the main event on any given Apex card.

    I think the asteriks are very fair, but surely you could probably do the same for every GOAT contender?
    What about things like eye pokes, failed drug tests, fighting guys moving up a weight class, age advantage, etc? While LHW is definitely way more forgiving with age than the lower weight classes, surely Pereira being over 6 years older than Jiri, for example, has to count as a bit of a positive on his side, no?
    Ultimately for now I'd still rank him below guys like Fedor, Jones, Silva, GSP, Aldo and DJ, but I think he is already right at the tier immediately below

  • @8301TheJMan

    Your the goat if you defeat other greats and Alex's opponents aren't the greats? If you apply that then, who'd Anderson Silva beat who you'd consider a great? Same with Khabib, GSP, and so on. The Hill and Jiri fights are definitely more impressive than every Anderson Silva opponents other than maybe Vitor. Those two plus Jan and Israel are all at least as "great" as any of Khabib's opponents. And speaking of which, Khabib never fought any elite grapplers, hell aside for three or four of his wins, the rest of the dudes he beat were on the same level as Bruno Silva, or even worse. Izzy's the second greatest MW of all time and is every bit as great of a win as Jones beating Cormier, Rampage, Gus, Shogun, and Santos. Jones is, despite being a cheat, is without question the greatest mma fighter of all time, so Im not diminishing his opponents- or any of the other guys' i also just mentioned, Im just pointing out that once you start down this road of having an asterisk hanging over Poatan's stellar career because he hasn't faced any elite grapplers yet. Cuz like i said, Khabib's biggest wins were against strikers, or guys who may have come originally from wrestling but became strikers in mma, (like Gaetje), with really only RDA being close to a very good wrestler, and even he wasn't what i'd call elite. Alex has only beaten five former or current champs, that's something GSP, Anderson Silva, Izzy, or khabib never came close to doing. Which is why, even if he loses his next fight to Ank or Aspinall/Jones, Alex is already at least somewhere in the top 10, and with anther big win - he'd be damn close to top five even! Of course this is subjective, cuz like you said - great isn't the same as best, so your welcome to your own opinion of course. However I do think we should all agree that he certainly is one of the greats at the very least, it's just a matter of how highly you rank him in that GOAT ranking

    • @8301TheJMan
      @8301TheJMan 4 месяца назад +1

      @@janglingjack Penn definitely is! Back in his prime he was a monster, and though he stayed around way too long - he still should be considered at least one of the two or three greatest LW's ever imo! He beat the much bigger Hughes twice and gave St Pierre an extremely close first couple rounds but eventually Georges size/strength advantage lead to him dominating Penn in the next few rounds. Hell, he even took 205'er Machida to a decision for fucks sake. And yes Hughes at the time was great, but were either greater than what Izzy was considered to be when Alex beat him? Penn was a phenom at LW but is he considered a top 5 WW currently by anyone? And Hughes i personally wouldn't put any higher than sixth or maybe fifth, whereas Izzy is without question at least the second greatest MW, and Alex beat the only other dude that beat Izzy in Strickland, in less than a few mins. So is what St. Pierre did somehow more impressive???? Maybe, maybe not - either way, when you start down this rabbit-hole of nitpicking the "greatness" of the opponents that Alex has beaten, my point is you could do the same for all those other guys.
      Which is why i find this whole having an asterisk hanging over how great or impressive Poatan's career has been for one reason or another - is both annoyingly biased and also somethin that has become the go-to route taken by those trying to find a way to down-play what Alex has done. Because you could come up with similar nit-picks over all the other great fighter's careers. Plus it's also biased because Wrestling has been the META for so long that, if the roles were reversed, (like Khabib), you don't hear nearly as many people making the same sorta criticisms over the level of greatness of his career.

    • @janglingjack
      @janglingjack 4 месяца назад +2

      @@8301TheJMan I see your point. But we can't also diminish the fact that Izzy KOed Alex and avagned his loss while GSP decisivly won those rivalries by beating BJ and Matt two times, so much smaller of an asterisk there.

    • @8301TheJMan
      @8301TheJMan 4 месяца назад

      @@janglingjack Good points, which is a definitely a reason for why I personally would have GSP ahead of Poatan in my list. I think this disagreement also could come down to us debating different things, all I'm saying is that Poatan deserves to be in the mix for the greatest, but i certainly am not saying he should be number 1. Currently Jones, GSP, Silva, and Volk are all imo clearly ahead of Alex right now. I think that'd immediately change if Alex were to beat Ank, cuz then he'd be legit competing for fifth or fourth spot, and if he were to beat Aspinall or Jones - then yeah he may be the number 1 greatest - period - if that were to happen, (however unlikely that is). After those four i mentioned though, along with Alex - there are a bunch of dudes jockeying for the rest of the top ten spots, from Max, to Khabib, to Islam, to Izzy, to Cormier, to Stipe, and even old-timers like Fedor, Randy, and BJ Penn.
      So if your using the asterisk to say he shouldn't be in the top five or so, than okay i can understand that. But the way Jack was making out to be like he should be in the discussion for top ten because of it. That may not be what he means, but that's the way he came off in this vid anyways.

      @8301TheJMan Aldo is above khabib, cormier, Islam and a few others you mentioned, decisively. Objectively by any metric.
      Just saying.
      I agree with your points overall!
      But to me Jones whole career is an actual real asterisk in regards to greatness (best is different argument sure)
      Being BLASTED on peds way more than the average fighter, always having a significant to sometimes massive height and reach advantage, consistently fouling and threatening fouls mainly eye pokes with that reach advantage, I don't consider him a double champ at all waiting for ngannou to leave and then cherry picking the 3rd best hw at the time with an ideal style for a vacant title, openly ducking the actual champion etc.
      Jones has always been overrated to me, beyond what I mentioned if he didn't have favoritism he would have a loss vs Reyes, at least a dozen point deductions possible dqs LHW was never a top shelf division etc

    the answer is simple: let Jones and Pereira fight;
    the fight itself will be fantastic, it is undeniable that Jones is one of the Goats and Pereira too, they deserve this fight, even if Pereira loses it will solidify Jones more, as he has never faced someone like Pereira. If Pereira wins, it could make him jump categories and enter the discussion as to whether he is the GOAT above Jones. In general, that's it, the fight needs to happen. Anyone who says fanboy phrases like: "Jones would smoke him easily, this fight shouldn't happen", or "Pereira would make Jones sleep easy", these things said are worthless, as it's just the person's opinion, and many don't want to see your idol loses, that's why I say that the only true and worthwhile thing is what each one is doing for the sport and they have already accredited enough for this fight to take place, it will be tremendous even for the legacy of one of the two. Deny the occurrence This fight just shows how afraid people are of their idol losing.
    I'm not just talking about Pereira vs Jones, but also other fights like Jones vs Aspinall, Pereira vs Adesanya3.
    For me, if the fighters are doing what they want, winning fights, they can request this super fight to try to increase their legacy. Denying in advance that it shouldn't happen because "People" are going to be smoked is the biggest idiocy in the world. The fight must take place, after which we will see who is who.

    That should about hitting your head on the street is so real. I put my hands out to keep a drunk guy away from me when I was working on a door, and he tripped back and cracked his head open on cobblestones. Out for 8+ minutes, gushing blood. Scary moment, shit just happens.

    Absoutley, couldn't agree with you more... it's become comical how fans look at what constitutes greatness..
    I've seen people unironically comparing losses between fighters like cowboy or oliveira to islam...
    Literally comparing fighters who fought as many as 20 top 10 ranked opponents to someone who is speaking about retirement soon and has fought just 3 top 10s from LW, one of them a late notice hooker 😂
    No one is saying he isn't a good fighter but cerrone fought more names in a calendar year than islam..
    Comparing them 2 on that metric with no context sounds great, but if the context is know it's almost embarrassing a guy of islams potentail has done such little work with almost 10 years in the ufc now.. 3 of his last 6 opponents have been on late notice, arman has as many top 5 wins as the pfp1 in his own weight division

    I’d like to see a fighter take Alex down to see how well Alex defends and fights off the submission. Right now, it appears to be a glaring hole in his game that no one has exploited yet.

      He's definitely not a can but he is a beneficiary of favourable match making. That's largely because 185 and 205 are full of sloppy MMA kickboxers rather than well rounded mixed martial artists. I don't think he's purposely avoiding wrestlers but he's certainly benefitting from the lack of wrestlers at 205.

    Sylvie's MT library is great, aside from the kata-influenced rote padwork, Western gyms quite often teach it as a uniform/rigid art with right and wrong ways to kick/knee, etc.
    Watching the legends with Sylvie they all favour different variations on techniques and strategies, even the styles (muay femur/muay khao etc) vary with different gyms/coaches/legends.
