This happens and I genuinely think it's why monologuing villains aren't just possible, but _likely._ When you pull off something really smart, you wanna tell at least someone about it, even better if it's the one person who has been trying to stop you for like a week or so
Yeah, a little dark, but something like 90% of active shooters tell sometime before they do it. People like to share things and often evil people are pretty lonely or surrounded by untrustworthy figures. Makes perfect sense why that desire would translate into boasting at a "defeated" foe.
Law Abiding Citizen had a similar scene. When the protagonists finally figure out how the antagonist is doing everything, the antagonist actually remarks that he's glad that someone finally knows how much time and effort he's put into things.
