I like that you're getting new cards. Also the UK map is very thematic as Britain was the birthplace of the steam railway, so starting off with very basic routes and having to develop tech fits in with the early growth of the railway in Britain. Nice!
Wow, this sounds like a great expansion to add some variety. I haven't thought much on getting anymore Ticket To Ride stuff after the original, but this might just change my mind.
Sounds like a really good expansion to TTR. Would be my first expansion I buy for the game. I may have to look up the others and see what they change to the overall game. Great review as usual Tom!
Had an amusing thing happen last weekend during a gaming event at my house. I was playing another game and some folks started playing TTR UK&Penn . They came up a bit later while playing Pennsylvania asking why where were so many train wrecks... They were using the UK deck because it was in the box with the board :)
Nice review, glad I found this channel. I have Europe, Switzerland, and China and I absolutely love Ticket to Ride. I play with two house rules to make the game faster, both involving drawing train cards. The first rule is that you draw two cards off the top at the start of your turn, always. The second rule is that drawing a face-up Locomotive doesn't end your turn, instead you get a face-up Locomotive and a face-down card off the top. On Switzerland in particular this makes the game much more competitive and fast past, with the race aspect really coming to fore. What do you think?
Does the UK map play well with 3 players? Would there be enough competition? We play "Nordic Countries" a lot with 3, but I have heard that "Europe" and "USA" are better with at least 4 players.
Awesome, great to hear that the UK map is worth getting. I'm a bit bored of base TTR, so this might liven it up again. Any chance it could all fit with the TTR Europe box, inserts removed?
+Actualol ...I /suspect/ so. I store most of my boards, the cards that don't fit into the insert (So, Marklin's trains and usually I think I need one set of tickets), the Marklin passenger chits, and the spare trains due to having both Marklin and USA in my USA box, and a board, the rules, as many cards as will fit, and the trains and score markers we actually use in the insert. Usually wind up swapping what board is in the main box whenever I play it, but with just a single extra board and another deck of cards, I reckon you could store everything in one box.
Question: if I buy a tech does it stay throughout the game. Example: if I am in Whales, by purchasing the tech card, do I need to turn it in to play or does it stay with me? Thank you
Hey, please help - in UK do I keep the technology cards until the end of the game? Or do I ‚purchase’ them just for the next move and then return them to the deck? Thanks in advance!
How does the Pennsylvania Stock mechanic work with two? Also, due to the UK trains only needing to remove 5 wilds to make it a regular train deck, I believe this is the first map pack compatible with TTR:Marklin? The city choices for TTR:Europe are just weirdly, though. Not including York, which is a city of historic importance to the UK railway, being the most obvious oversight.
Same question came to my mind about the two cards stock. What's the point to take the first card just to be outplayed by the next player? I guess it adds a bit of tension like "maybe i should take this stock now and MAYBE nobody will notice this and I will take the second one later", but this is so unlikely and you are just giving someone points.
You know I was a little upset with the draw three off the top card. It seems so broken on first glance. Maybe it should come with a negative point bonus.
Does this game (Pennsylvania board) play well at only 2 players? The original TTR ive noticed doesn't so it doesn't hit the table often at all since it's just my husband n i
Can people who are playing United Kingdom please tell me how you are interpreting the Technology Card "Right Of Way" that allows you to claim a route that someone else has already played? Reason: I am foreseeing 3 debates with my family and I just want to see if I can get a consensus. First, if there are more than 2 players someone can play the same route on a double track without using a Right of Way card but in a 2-player game the Right of Way could be very significant. Take for ex. Edinburgh to Newcastle. There are double tracks. So, player A plays the green track...player B cannot play the pink track. However, player B is holding the Right of Way Tech Card so I'm assuming player B can play the Tech Card and 3 pink cards and place train cars BESIDE player A's train cars (share the route) and thus, have permission to play on the double track in a 2-player game...NO PROBLEM. The problem is when you have 3-4 players and the single or double track is already occupied and someone then wants to claim a route. Do they play their train cars and remove the other player's cars from the board (thus claiming the route)? Does claiming mean to share the same route or take over the route? It seems claiming would mean to take possession of someone else's route because IF you have 3-4 players and 2 have already taken possession of the Edinburgh to Newcastle route (green and pink tracks) then how does player 3 or 4 claim a route? Do they remove someone's train cars so they can play theirs OR do they choose the green or pink track; play the 3 cards of the same color and then place their train cars beside the other player (not on the allotted spaces but beside). Thus, Edinburgh to Newcastle could then be occupied by 1, 2, 3 or even 4 players. So...how are you playing the Right of Way? Claiming to share the same route with someone already on that route OR claiming (take possession of OR removing) their route so that you can play yours. This would also be very significant in the single track routes. If someone has already claimed the Londonderry to Dundalk route (3 pink cards/cars) and someone else wants to claim it; how would he/she use the Right of Way Tech Card OR do you even think it can be used on a single track route? Would player B remove player A's cars and replace them with his/her OR would he/she simply play the Right of Way Tech card, 3 pink train cards and then place 3 of his/her train cars beside player A's cars to show 2 players are sharing the same route? See my point? We are back to the original question: Do we share the route or claim it by removing the other player. As you can see I am very analytical and the rules for this specific Technology Card are very vague. Someone needed to be a little more specific on what it means to "claim a route that was already claimed by another player." My family is VERY competitive and while introducing new games to them they rely on me to watch these game play video tutorials to explain to them "how" the game is played and "why" certain moves can or cannot be played. Thanks...I look forward to seeing how people are interpreting all of this IF you were able to stay with me through my lengthy thought process :+)
I have a question, if I have this expansion and Europe in the europe box (no insert) could I squeeze in one more map pack? Been looking at Switzerland / India! Thanks
I really want to eventually see a TTR with the stock an technology on a mega map...could be a totally made up map too! OR make a Europe to Asia combo with Tech and Stock. It really needs to play like Europe though, not like the original which is kinda bland and doesn't have the complexity of ferries etc.
+The Dice Tower I understand that, but conversely, the people who are willing to shell out the money for the Anniversary edition are also more likely to want expansion packs. Instead we get "Thanks for backing the deluxe edition, but now buy a regular edition (or a set of trains elsewhere for the same money) if you want to play an expansion."
+NostraDunwhich I agree, I bought the 10th because it is a beautiful game but between the missing 1910 rules (I know I can dl a pdf but still a special ed should have everything included) and now this new map pack that ignores the 10th ann trains, I feel neglected by Days of Wonders 😕
The UK map is the Agricola of TTR. It's a game that constantly forces player to do things they don't want to do. It removes the casualness of TTR and replaces it with mechanisms that force the player to constantly collect technology cards in order to do things that require much less effort in other TTRs. And that's just annoying. The technology cards add more stuff to do without giving much room for greater strategy. Having more stuff to do doesn't necessarily make for a more strategic or satisfying game.
Could someone who has the united kindom game, please!!!!! write all the routes cards from where to where im searching for this game for a long time and it is sold out in my country so i have decided to build my own i have pictures to all the card and the map exept the routes cards please!!! if someone could make the time to write the destinations from where to where thank you
We played last night with five people. My son won without having some important technology cards. Because there are only four cards available of each. So if you don't purchase them right away you can miss out on getting them. My son actually liked the challenge of it, without some of the cards.
Presentation Tip #46 Speak in shorter sentences in order to avoid sounding like you are exhaused or out of breath all the time. Like the review though!
in my experience, the game treats it as though it's IN another country, and not necessarily that it itself is another country. Though that may be just because I live within 2 hours of Ontario...
+GamingTrent Actually "Pittsburgh has been spelled with an h officially and historically since its founding in 1758--except for the period between 1890 and 1911." So I think they probably just misspelled it. As do a lot of people who aren't from here.

Its nice to see Tom liking this game even more now after 10 years. Glad this game keeps on going.
4 years later, did not realize Ticket to Ride had so many different maps (knew they had other maps, standalone and "add on", but not ones like these!)
Best game explanation I've seen yet! Thank you!
Wow, this sounds like a great expansion to add some variety. I haven't thought much on getting anymore Ticket To Ride stuff after the original, but this might just change my mind.

Great review as usual Tom!
+Ramonosuke India map is awesome in my opinion.
Must buy, Must buy!!!!! looks awesome Tom. Thanks for the review.

So excited for this map pack!
My wife is from PA and love TtR. I know what I'm getting her for christmas
Awesome, Oil City is my hometown!

Cool idea! Have you tried the new smaller maps?

Tom did not realize you were a fellow Pennsylvanian. Where are you from originally?

Hi guys! Do you think we should use stations in Pennsylvania expansion? There is no mentioning of this in the rules.
I do. It takes some luck out of the game.

6:16 'english *cough*', did I hear what I think I heard? :)
I have a question, if I have this expansion and Europe in the europe box (no insert) could I squeeze in one more map pack? Been looking at Switzerland / India! Thanks
Yes, most probably, with no insert.
I have ttr marklin dont want to get ttr but I do want to get this dose anyone know if this will work with ttr marklin?

R all these extra Cities map packs?
Can you play this expansion with the 10th Anniversary Edition of TTR?
+Michael Barrio Probably not, because the trains in that edition are larger.
Would be nice if they made the spaces a bit larger to accomodate the 10th Anniv. Trains. Not like they did not know those train cars existed!
+NostraDunwhich The board would have to be MUCH larger, which isn't cost effective.
+The Dice Tower I understand that, but conversely, the people who are willing to shell out the money for the Anniversary edition are also more likely to want expansion packs. Can you use TTR Marklin with it?
Given that it comes with its own set of pieces, you probably could.
+Semi-Squishy 3000 (Frank) Probably.
+Aikuchi Same boat as you. With the Swiss/India map, the distribution of wild cards was the only thing that was supposedly off.
+Aikuchi I don't think you can. The ratio of cards is different.
+Aikuchi Yes, the ratio is a bit off, but you probaly could.
is this expansion only for 4 players? or can play with 5?
We played last night with five people. My son won without having some important technology cards. Because there are only four cards available of each. So if you don't purchase them right away you can miss out on getting them. My son actually liked the challenge of it, without some of the cards.
LOL... a country Ontario, ahhhhhhhh... that's a province bro!
Pittsburgh isn't spelled correctly on the board! Are you kidding me? Who did the research?
I know, right? I was thinking about getting this, but man would that bug me.
That’s how it was spelled back in the day.
you're biased because of Pensylvania!
Presentation Tip #46
Speak in shorter sentences in order to avoid sounding like you are exhaused or out of breath all the time.
Like the review though!
Ontario is not a country. for a game that likes to teach geography I wish they could have treated Canadian cities the same as American.
in my experience, the game treats it as though it's IN another country, and not necessarily that it itself is another country. Though that may be just because I live within 2 hours of Ontario...
"Pittsburg" Ugh.
+Zack Hiwiller Yes, how dare they be historically accurate. Pittsburgh, PA was officially spelled "Pittsburg" until 1911.
+GamingTrent But what about that "LEWISTON" in the middle of the map? It's LewisTOWN, my hometown. I am disappoint. :(
+GamingTrent Actually "Pittsburgh has been spelled with an h officially and historically since its founding in 1758--except for the period between 1890 and 1911." So I think they probably just misspelled it. As do a lot of people who aren't from here.
+GamingTrent However, I suppose they could be focusing on the spelling in 1910 for their earlier 1910 expansion.
+GamingTrent It's hard for me to make out on my screen but it looks like they spelled it Pittsburg on the map yet Pittsburgh on the cards.
