    In Rails & Sails, do you end the game when someone reaches 6 train pieces or 6 boat pieces OR in when they reach 6 pieces in TOTAL?

    Thanks for your review Dan! I've been very eager to see this game in action.

      Most versions of Ticket to Ride are available to be played online via the app but Rails and Sails isn’t one of them.

    Tour tickets - do you shuffle them in the deck with the other tickets, or do you distribute them separately at the beginning of the game? Cause if you get, say 3 tour tickets in your firts hand, you’re busted… so we still haven’t decided to include them in our game. BTW we absolutely LOVE rails and sails ;)

    Really i dont understand why ppl keeps complaining about this game, for me is a great version of TTR, The tour routes, the boats, the harbors, the difficult terrain on which u have to spend 2 trains of the same color, all is great and adds a lot to the game, besides i dont have any problem on the lenght of the game (im a zombicide- massive drakness player), so im familiar with long games, so really i dont know what is the peoples problem with this game, just if u dont like more complex and long games just dont buy it.

    Question: How do you know at the end of the game if the player has played the ticket right? I mean the ticket that you have play in order (from 1 to 2 to 3). How do you know if that person had followed that route at the end of the game? Because you do not know what tickets they have and as their opponant I can imagine that you do not remember if they follow the exact route. I hope you have an answer to that.

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  7 лет назад

      From what I remember the order doesn't actually matter. As long as you have it.

    • @nancyr979
      @nancyr979 7 лет назад

      But that does not make sense. Because the cards/rules say, that you get more points when you do it in the right order. If you don't but still have that route, you get also points, but lesser points (as shown on the ticket). The rule book is also not clear on this. The only way you can assure that you follow the exact route, is to show you card when you finish that exact route. (and count your points right away) But again, the rule book does not say anything about that.

      If at the end of the game, you can trace the cities in order (1 to 2 to 3...) by following only trains/boats of your color, you score the highest points.
      If all the cities on the ticket are linked but you cannot trace the cities in order, you score the lowest positive value
      But if you're missing one of the cities on the Destination Ticket you lose the points on the right...

      It's all about direct routes. In normal ticket to ride you can use different routes to make route. These cards can only have this cities in them, not be part of another route.

    Thanks for the review. I was curious as to why this price tag was so much more than the previous stand alone versions. I am guessing for the extra boats and extra deck for the boats?

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  8 лет назад

      I'm guessing yes all the extra pieces, the extra card deck(s) and the huge 8 panel board.

    • @boardgamecloset
      @boardgamecloset 8 лет назад

      Gotcha. I guess I missed how large the board was. Thanks for the honest review. I am still intrigued by the new mechanics. If it drops in price I might pick this one up. I'm also interested in the UK expansion you mentioned.

      The UK map has Pennsylvania on it too, which is a fantastic map and must-have for TTR - Best map the game has in my opinion (I'd really like to see the Shares mechanic from it on a future map)

      There is a designer note on the web page that says that Alan's interested in bringing it to the next expandalone game (as in sets like Europe and Marklin), perhaps sometime after Rails and Sails. Just thought to say, Chris :)

    An indie game called Strayspells is gaining steam, do you think you would do a review on it?

  • @TheLomdr
    @TheLomdr 8 лет назад

    If I may ask, Dan, did you run into any problems with people jamming up the draw market with cards that people don't need? Like if there is a 'need' for boat cards but the only place you can get a boat is through the blind draw. Also, I noticed the crop marks in the lower left hand corner of the Great lakes tickets

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  8 лет назад

      It didn't happen when there were no boat cards, but there were times when there was only 1 or 2. Two of my decks were miscut and I am still waiting for them to respond about it.

    • @TheLomdr
      @TheLomdr 8 лет назад

      Fair enough on the first part. It was just so obvious that they missed the crop marks on your ticket cards in theatre mode, so that's why I brought it up :)

    Love your channel and reviews! I do however, really enjoy playing this game. It is so much more interesting than vanilla TTR and it introduces several new ideas, such as 2 decks, special symbols, hoarding and limited availability. ALSO This game has expanded my wife’s understanding of how a game can be played and enjoyed. Rails and Sails has really expanded her understanding of resource management and strategy by creating a long term plan to maximize her harbors. In this case I guess we can agree to disagree.

    Thanks for the review, I'm definitely going to pick this up =-). Game length doesn't worry me too much as its' the company I seek, and the new mechanics sound interesting enough to be worth exploring ^^.

    Thanks for the honest review, I'm sure it was hard to put a "bad" review out there for a franchise you love! Sounds like, if you're going to spend $80 or more, you'd be better off getting the 10th anniversary edition of TTR!

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  8 лет назад +2

      I do feel like the 10th anniversary was worth the money (which I did buy as well).

    That's to bad. The maps really shine off the table. But you are right, if I'm paying 80 dollars for a game I want a bunch of miniatures

    Wow. Super disappointing this game flopped for you. I have always considered the original as a perfect game because it's simple and strategic and never overstays its welcome. I was excited about this one because I hoped it would be a new iteration on the game that would get me excited about ticket to ride again. it seems like you love this franchise for all the reasons I do so I'm glad I didn't pre order this right away. Great review!

    Glad I didn’t listen to this review. Loved the game, more interesting and challenging than the original. What can I say, some people like simple, some prefer more complex.

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  2 года назад

      Complexity wasn’t the problem. It was a 90 minute Ticket to Ride that way over stayed its welcome. It wasn’t complex enough to be that long. It just drags.
