The dirt jumping contest used to be at the races and BMX made complete sense when it was that way. Every winter at the Christmas Classic in Columbus, every rider and company would be there.
First race I was ever in was in Prince George BC 1989, on a Torker 2 freestyle. Gnarly coincidence, was the only trophy I ever kept, even out of my nationals trophies… loving this idea, you’re NOT the only ones that tossed that idea around recently
Freestyle at the track sounds fun. Never got into racing because I started riding dirt jump lines and it was too fun already. But, chasing my homie that rode arena cross through the trails at higher speed than usual is always a great few laps.
Brandon Dosch & I used to do tricks during our races way back. Crowd & announcers loved it, but not everyone was a fan. He would backflip straight up mid moto 😅
Shout out to Tim”Fuzzy”Hall. I raced at the old Twin Peaks raceway in Murray, Utah. He would pull 360s and all kinds of tricks while winning pro races. He was the King of Dirt in the beginning. He was always willing to give advice and would congratulate me when I won. Our Utah BMX community used to race during the week, and build/ride trails on the same bikes on the weekends, basically. Memories for days. He’s an epic person in my experience.
Bmx racing could blow up freestyle it is so much bigger and has way more money flowing through it. And freestyle could keep people in the sport when people get burnt out on the racing
I like it sounds good it might be worth going even further an introduce something perhaps new like a flat tarmac race track kinda super moto but a tad smaller, so you’d have dirt raceing freestyle an flat tarmac circuit, I’ve put some blank generation tyres I think there 2.4 an if you run them a bit squishy they have a huge contact area it’s like Stella for downhill tarmac an car parks, I fitted these to a couple of mid school a mongoose pro anniversary an a redline an I get stopped pretty much anytime I ride em one geezer even told me he’s doing daredevil downhill racing with friends with a similar set up so basically road racing downhill. I get stopped cause I’m 54 big beard kinda Viking on a bmx but turns out there’s a whole movement of folks doing random bmx stuff. Wasn’t the original ama series a combination of flat track motocross and circuit racing so it’s not without heritage. Cheers
speaking from experience, the biggest problem with bmx racing is Moto Maker, its been broken for years and no one will accept the fact and they ignore the problem.....
The big problem with BMX racing is no passing. Holeshot wins 95.8956123% of the time. BMX racing track design needs to change, the races should be longer and downhill to facilitate the ability to go through a longer section of track without peddling.
Brant any chance you can cover Chris Cole and how much he owns of cult bmx , I'm not here to cause 💩 but if what's true is true then people need to know if they want to send their money to him.. 🫤

Racing is the heart of bmx, it's where it all started.
Freestyle, the idea of doing it your own way is the operating system of bmx.
20 inches baby!

Let’s hope more people start talking about it and we can see it happen!!!
Mandatory tricks, like 360s along the way!
Sitting on his lap
So much yes make Bmx’s racing dope again
Let's do it!
Great interview🤘

I feel like people would get into it if they could race their friends at a bmx track on their normal freestyle bikes
Back in the day there was king of dirt!!!!!!!!
great idea!
I miss the old days going to nbl races and watching the dk dirt circuit a lot of the reason I started building jumps
This is a fantastic idea! Skiers do it, why not BMX?

That’s why a freestyle class would be so cool. When it’s expected or part of it, people can’t really bitch
TRA could maybe do something like this. I would love to do the TRA races period. Vic Behm used to kill those things!

Let's somehow mend racing with vert. That would be interesting.
I'm not sure anyone could afford the cost of medical insurance in such a venture. 😊

@@davidbayles4732 i got into freestyle when I stopped racing

So BMX slopestyle...
No.
A race of freestyle bikes then a totally separate ramp or jumping category on trick jumps or ramps

@usabmx what can be done to bring dj comps back to nationals?
