    This tutorial shows you how to create Sonobe variation cubes that can either be used as an Origami decoration or Origami lamp.
    You can make simple 6 unit cubes to more complex 24 unit cubes.
    You will need square, uni colored paper. Origami paper, notes paper and craft paper works best for the Sonobe cube ornament. Choose paper which is around 9 cm x 9 cm/3.5 in x 3.5 in for your first Sonobe cube. At this size the assembly is easy and the Sonobe cube will hold together nicely.
    If you are more interested to recreate the Origami Cube Lamp, then choose Tracing Paper. My Sonobe cube lamp paper measured 21 cm x 21 cm/8.3 in x 8.3 in. You might want to use glue to hold your units together, as the paper is too smooth.
    Find out more about paper, measurements, Sonobe modules in my article about this Origami project: origamitutorials.com/sonobe-cu...
    I hope you enjoy this Origami project as much as I do.

    I have made a couple of these, with the latest being the lamp style. Really turned out great! I used 5" squares which seemed to be a perfect size for a LED candle to light up.

    Thank you so much for this vid. Theses cubes and lamps look awesome !! :-)
    When I was about 8 I once teach my class how to create origami for a project for the school fair lol.
    I'm 37 now and I come back to it now lol. Funny to see that the feeling and excitement didn't change.

      Hi Cedric, I am so glad you rediscovered Origami. I also feel that excitement whenever I fold a new model and spend hours selecting a new model to fold. :)

    The final result is very pretty. I have used baking paper for origami and it is wonderful to fold. This is definitely going to be in my future origami projects! ^___^ Thank you so much for the tutorial!

    My teacher said that this origami cube may help in Math Classes. I'm not really sure... Could you please make a video tutorial of a multicolor sonobe origami cube by Rita Foelker? It would help me! Thank you!

    Hi, For the Lamp could I use standard paper also? Or will that be too thick?

    • @hilnik42
      @hilnik42 7 лет назад

      never mind i read your article. if i do intend on maoing the lamp though would using only 20 units be preferrable ?

    • @OrigamiTutorials
      @OrigamiTutorials  7 лет назад

      Yes, if you don't want to create a bottom, then use 20 units only.

    How do you put them together and make them stay together? I can't seem to do so even with bigger paper. They still keep falling apart.

      Maybe the paper is a bit too smooth. if it is a bit too smooth, just use glue to hold it together

    is this considered a menger sponge origami?

    • @OrigamiTutorials
      @OrigamiTutorials  8 лет назад

      Hi Aaliyah, this is not yet a Menger sponge cube - as there are not yet any holes. If you want to read up more on it, I found an interesting explanation about Menger sponge: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menger_sponge.

    Красиво, но этот модуль не дает прочной конструкции. Кстати,
    куб из такого модуля можно собирать и другим способом.

      Emanuel Pollak
      From Google Translate: "Beautiful, but this module does not provide a solid structure. By the way, a cube of such a module can be assembled in another way ."
      Hi, Emanuel! All connections are interwoven, besides the pyramids you form out of each 3 modules. If you want a more solid structure, then the 6 unit cube probably seems the most solid.
      I wrote an article to the video: origamitutorials.com/sonobe-cube-lamp-tutorial/, there I mention almost at the end about the possibility to assemble it in a different way. But very nice for pointing that out in any case. Have a beautiful day! :)

    Isn't there also a way to make a cube using 12 units? But with that you just fold the diagonal, I think.

    • @OrigamiTutorials
      @OrigamiTutorials  9 лет назад

      Valerie Neko Hi Valerie, you are right about that. I mentioned it in my article to this tutorial: origamitutorials.com/sonobe-cube-lamp-tutorial/. You can find the reference under the heading "Sonobe Cube Variations". You can see it in the picture: origamitutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Sonobe-Cube-Origami-Lamp22.jpg - It is the front leftest small cube (all white). The assembly of the 12 unit cube is somewhat different, as you don't form little pyramids, but 4 units form one face of the cube. I hope that helps.

    I want to make this but I have a question. It says to use baking paper to make it see-through but then later says to use tracing paper. If I want to make a light like the one shown in the video, which should I use?
