What a saga! I haven't had issues with HMRC but I did have a similar saga with the council when I was self employed and also claiming housing benefit to make ends meet. I ceased self employment but I'm actually working on some new ideas (which might become self employed venture) and one is a simple sheet that can be filled in to put together all the information you need to do a tax return.
