School, college and Universities were all Horrors for me since I went through all these courses not knowing that there was even a term for my condition. I struggled so much yet always felt abnormal and inadequate, and at times I even wanted to die, though not to the extent of committing Suicide since I am a believer of God.

I speak and understand American English with a strong southern accent. I have a hard time understanding Americans from northern states. Understanding people from England or Australia is next to impossible for me.

My first attempt at learning to drive was when I was 19 and it was a disaster. Then at the age of 23 I went to driving school and my driving Tutor said that I am the worst student that he had ever came across. I couldn't drive even after taking the driving classes twice the number of days as other students. This really affected my self confidence and I thought that I'd never ever learn to drive in my life. I felt like a loser. At the age of 25 I came across the term Dyspraxia on the internet and I immediately knew that this is what I have been suffering from all my life and this is the reason why my motor coordination has always been so poor no matter what I do to improve it. Eventually I learnt to ride a gearless two wheeler after a lot of hard work and self encouragement. But I wasn't yet able to drive a Car as shifting the gears was too much for me. Then finally at the age of 27, with the encouragement of my brother in law and a lot of bumps on the car, I eventually learnt to ride a car and a geared motorcycle. Learning these new skills were a big boost on my self confidence.

Driving is a Nightmare for me. I'm told I'm a good driver... But it is the SEVERE exhaustion After wards. The tube in Paris was a nightmare...lack of ability to concentrate, being alone ; a new route & then into a new art gallery & collapsing in a foreign city. ..& being transported home by the fire brigade (As in Paris they don't have ambulancemen). I'd NEVER do it alone now- Since diagnosis...As we are at risk- travelling in a new place. Just diagnosed today! Always knew I had troubles with travel and getting around.

You could do one - on various experiences in different jobs and how people coped / had job changes. ?? Could you? For eg- I couldn't work in a Highly charged A&E dept / anything where furiously fast paced and needs for quick decisions and h8gh organisation are vital But switched to work alone @ nite- without a the hospital bright lights & HEAT of wards To: Home care of the dying. Then I just had the one person to concentrate on and it was Far slower; a pace.

I'm coming at this from a different perspective & that is the HUGE benefit to getting PIP Disability With a Diagnosis. So I'd say for many of us it's not just a piece of paper. With all the emotional aspects (anxiety) of having to sit before an appeal board and try to explain why you "sound and express" yourself so well. My Assessing place was "Bristol Dyslexia Centre" By an Dr Wendy Who has a PhD in neurodiversity. So I was lucky. She took a full history; including the psychological. She is an Educational psychologist. They also CAN allow you to pay half now & the rest on day of assessment. I asked her :"what about afterwards - what will I do to adjust?" I am to see one of their specialists. I could no longer work full time as an RGN due to it not being a suitable environment for me with all the equipment one can drop; bump into plus all the huge stresses of organising and talking as we do things= impossible to do for me This is why I went into Disability payments. I now hope to find a very different kind of job; now I know. So for me a diagnosis Coming mot just from my background in general nursing but from a very intelligent family has been incredibly vital and though £550(in 2019) I could have had it paid for ; apparently; had I gone onto University.

Judith Mendelsohn Hello. Glad to hear that you are getting somewhere with this. I’m trying to work out which is the right discipline for my year 7 secondary child? My child was assessed for dyslexia as fitted ‘some’ of profile but mostly not. The assessment indicated possible dyspraxia. Can GP’s refer to educational psychologists? His difficulties relate more to school work that his gross and fine motor skills, although in baby, toddler/early years his sitting up was late and crawling didn’t happen. All these different disciplines who can assess is bewildering to me as a parent. At the crux of it, it’s more for him about getting the appropriate support with school work and self esteem. His writing speed is well below average, but his vocabulary and encyclopaedic knowledge is high. Overwhelmed.com.

Great video Thanks. REALLY helping me process my late in life diagnosis of dyspraxia at 59! Just last week. Oh how about the horrors of:- The gym hall and the days of Gymnastics= Hellish balancing tricks to get Even into the high level horse-thing. Was it the mule? Then ropes and climbing frames. Long jump- yeugh; sports days etc. I HATED Relays and that moment of handing over the baton; and the timing involved!!! My private school was super-sporty. Funnily I was really good at shot put as it was heavy & at Ballroom. It was very painful and I was badly bullied due to always being on the lifelines. Bruises and collisions in netball. and hanging back chatting guarding the goal as a hockey "right back" as felt safer! It was frightening for me. I always had bruises all over. Very painful to not have diagnosis for school years. How about "hurdles" and trying to get over it. My mother is a narcissist so used to mock me and say she'd give me a Mars bar if I did it! GREAT! Still not told my parents my diagnosis as just last week; I was assessed. I just am trying to protect myself from further abuse by her total lack of any empathy & her hatred of any illness or "weakness". Maybe you could go one on Self confidence and dealing with people who feel you are exaggerating a problem = now; I know to be our REALITY .

I (even pre-diagnosis) kept getting into real problems...Yes With my tv license! Now- I her sent a really great Service... = They send me a text asking every 2 weeks if I've paid it. It even tells me.."you owe £6..." Or even £12 if completely forgotten even with the text reminder. You can ALSO click pay...as they set it up for you. Brilliant it is

I have one that MUST be affecting loads of people; who undergo the horrors of appealing (called a ",Mandatory Reconsideration ") against a decision made by PIP. I personally feel as my local MP does that they are breaking that law by the way 1) we are treated during a nasty Assessment. When I told her I had no diagnosis when she asked she became very offhand and downright narcissistic in her questions. ** (see the end) My local MP told me I ought to put in an official complaint. These are the so-called health professional they use t0 gather into (I too was an RGN as she is) 2) no idea what else to write as whole process left me completely near-destroyed. = Unlawful & discriminatory...surely. Amber Rudd Labour MP was getting somewhere in Parliament to fight against tgus whole PIP Disability process but has now retired ** I then went off and finally got a diagnosis 🤗 for Dyspraxia and ADHD . Just last week. But she assumed I had no problem & gave me 0 points. I am now 59 Whole system is breaking the Equality Act but my local MP told me that most; unlike me just give up fighting to get PIP back. It is now Oct & they stopped it end of May!! = HUGE stress for people My ability to work as an RGN was just no longer possible. Very tough job for a dyspraxia as involves so many fine and gross motor movements...but felt I was the failure.

I LOVE being dyspraxic, for me it's all positive. I can't tell left from right but so what? I passed my driivng test first time, I love driving. I don't like *bits* in any food but that's easy to deal with . I hate dates but can remember key historical dates, can't remember my kid's ages though ( or mine which can be handy) . I am passionate about lots of things, mostly music and books and I LIVE them. I thought everyone lived in the books they read but I later found out not many do. I feel the characters...they become part of me and I love love love being dyspraxic. I am extra sensitive with feeling and emotions, and I would literally hate to be anyone or anything else <3

I had driven listen in a manual; while, I could explain what, I need to do and I know my left and right, they could be listen where, everything went right, then some where everything went wrong, yet in the listens that went wrong and that was most of the time, I could explain to the instructor what to do; one time he asked to turn right and I turn left; if you came up to me and ask, my left and right, I don't have to think about it.

I find it extremly stressful and hard to shop for food. I am not very good at choosing ingredients that would last a while, and when I do, I end up buying far too much of an item. Also, I am terrible at portion sizes. I always make far too much food, and I don't realise it until it is all dished up and I begin eating. It makes it extremly hard to save leftovers for later on, as my OCD won't let me eat leftovers often. this is a challenge I hope to one day overcome.
