There are a lot of clubs to choose from when you are looking to purchase your first set. They come in all shapes and sizes, and each one has a specific purpose.
A list of club types you should look to buy is in the list below:
Driver
3-Wood
5-Wood
Irons (4-iron through Pitching Wedge)
Sand Wedge
Putter
As far the brands you should look into that produce good quality clubs, check this list below:
Taylormade
Titleist
Ping
Callaway
Odyssey (putters by Callaway)
Cobra
Mizuno
Srixon
Cleveland
Nike (no longer produce equipment, but can buy used)
Adams
If you’re starting out, and don’t want to fork out a ton of money for these brands, then don’t buy brand new. Buy them used. There are always people selling used clubs, and you can find great deals for clubs in great condition.
We also recommend that you start out by using Regular (R) flex shafts. You can always go to local golf stores to test out clubs, and/or get fitted as well.

I have been through this in the last 4 years since I retired and took up golf as a recreation.
My take is to buy second hand and buy the non- big 4 to save money. No doubt you will change your clubs within two year as you improve your game.
Brands I would suggest are: Cobra, Cleveland, Wilson, Tour Edge, Adams; all good quality brands and mid- price range.
Driver: minimum loft 10.5 degrees, possibly 12+ if your swing speed is lower than 90 mph ( most seniors / women) . Don't go too stiff in the shaft at first ( regular Flex is a good starting point unless you have a very abrupt swing and are built like a gorilla)
Ditch the 3 wood idea and get a 5 wood 18-19 degrees or a 4 wood 16-17, they are easier to hit off the ground. You could also use a 7 wood ( 21-22 degrees) instead of a 4 iron
Hybrids; in the range of 19-24 degrees which you can use for tee shots while you are learning to hit the Driver.
Irons: Hollow bodied super game improvement are so easy to hit and forgiving. Cleveland HB Launcher series, Wilson Launchpads, Cobra T-rail, Tour edge ? model name . 5 iron ( 24 degrees) -AW is workable for slower swing speed players. They look like a cross between a hybrid and an iron and many experienced golfers think they are ugly, but they work! You want to improve fast ; yes? If you buy cavity backed game improvement irons with strong lofts, don't go below 26 degrees loft. Insert hybrids to keep the ball up in the air. Same applies to single length irons. It is faster to learn with single length irons ( Cobra, PinHawk), but stay away from the 4,5,6 irons if you have a slower swing speed. You can get SL Hybrids instead ( I use them)
Wedges: cavity backed wedges are more forgiving than bladed wedges ( expert level clubs) Cleveland CBX2 in lofts to suit your PW club loft with 4-5 degrees loft difference between them. i.e. if your PW is 45 degrees loft, look for a 50 GW, 55-56 SW, 60 LW .
Putter: whatever feels good to you. Maybe think of using a chipper/ putter style club at first until your skills improve.
Instruction: if you have a local PGA teacher use them. If you don't, select one RUclipsr and stick with them. My favourites would be Shawn Clement, Clay Ballard.,Danny Maude. If you have physical limitations ( like me/ too many fractured bones) I suggest you try the Jim Venetos swing. It has got me to 13 handicap in 2 years. It looks funny, but it works!
I hope this helps
Awesome!! Thanks for the great comment!
Just bought my first sets on used Nike SQ Sumo Irons and was leaning about Hybrids, Wood and Driver. Thank you for your insights. Got a better understanding of what clubs should I get next! Thanks!
Bruh
I just started going to the driving range a few months ago to practice and be ready for a course, I’ve bought my clubs from goodwill/thrift stores so far. I have aero burner 12.5 driver, top flite 3w, callaway X 5W, lancer oversize irons 5-PW, extra top flite wedge, and Wilson alignment blade putter. Combined cost under 60 dollars. Once I start playing courses I’ll look into upgrading but for now I’m focused on swinging consistently
This is the best video I have found for a true beginner golfer who is looking to buy their first clubs.
Thanks for the feedback! We hope it helps beginner golfers find the right clubs!
Personally, I would recommend a 5 wood, a 5 hybrid, 6-9 iron, PW, SW and a putter. Driver, GW and LW are optional, but fun to play around with. Hitting the driver well is hard. A beginner player benefits from the short game. But too many clubs can be overwhelming. Also, start with lessons and Par-3 courses.
Thanks for your suggestion and discussion! 5 Wood is a great club and for most people is a better alternative for 3 Wood. It's hard to tell people to not buy a driver as that is one of the clubs that most likely gets them into the game lol! Who doesn't love the idea of smashing a driver as far as you can? I'd honestly say GW is important...you can get away without a Lob Wedge, as often times it can cause more damage than good haha!
Cries in lefty trying to find used clubs...
For reals. Tyson is pretty good at finding good lefty clubs though!
That’s all I find on Facebook marketplace is lefty clubs!
Just found some lefty clubs on Callaway pre owned website for 300 and they’re having a 25% off sale right now
😂😂😂
Relatable
I’m not the best golfer but, for some reason, I’ve been asked this several times. One of the things I think is useful for beginners is describing the difference between the kinds of irons, more specifically why blades would be something to avoid for new golfers.
For sure. Thanks for sharing!
Since I am just starting out, I decided to purchase a beginner set of Top Flight clubs from Dicks. I am 68, but athletic, and got the “Senior Flex” graphite shafts. My PGA professional instructor was hitting shots with me during a lesson and asked to try one of my clubs to see if they really were any good. He hit his best shot with my 5 hybrid. Then he said, “Wow, you did good buying these for $249. The set includes a 10.5 degree driver, 3 wood, 4 and 5 hybrids, 6-9 irons, a 48 degree pitching wedge, a nice mallet putter, stand up bag, and head covers for the drivers. I purchased a 56 degree sand wedge separately for $45, and already had a 3 hybrid with graphite shaft.
I have had 6 lessons. Playing my first 9 holes next week. Ready to score!
Awesome! That is exciting! Get ready for the journey, it's a constant battle of tweaking, practicing, frustration and accomplishment!
How are things going? I bought the same set but the non senior version (steel instead of graphite) and am very happy. I think I will upgrade the driver, but all the irons seem to hit great.
@@33awesomeman33 - I recently upgraded by purchasing a new Ping putter. It’s an older model that was just sitting around unsold at the pro shop. Got a nice deal on it too. I also got a used, but mint condition, TaylorMade M2 driver in regular flex. It’s an inch longer and I love it!
BTW, I broke a hundred 3 weeks ago with a 98, followed by a 97 the next week. Not bad for the 8th and 9th time playing golf.
I’ve got a pretty obscure golf bag, brand called Alien, got them for my driver, 3 wood, and irons. It’s my dad‘s clubs that he doesn’t use very much anymore and they’re a bit too short for me so this video really helps for future reference!
Awesome! Glad we could help!
Thank you for making this video! 4 years later, it's as relevant as ever. I have a question, though I'm not sure if you address it in later videos - what is the oldest age of clubs one should get when buying used. I've heard different advice ranging from "no more than 10" to "not older than 20". I know opinions differ, but wondering what your take is on club age?
Typically no older than 10 years, as some clubs can become non conforming in competition, but most new golfers don’t care about that. Irons that are in good condition can last a long time.
Cobra driver, Titelist irons and wedges, Exotics 3 wood, Titelist 2 iron, Taylor made hybrid. Putter is all your choice basically.
Sounds like a nice set up there!
Yee but how much you paying for this set up? Lol
Went on FB marketplace and got a set of Adams Idea Tech V3 hybrid irons, for $50. older clubs for sure, needed to regrip but definitely glad I did!
The old Tommy Armour silver Scott and ping eye 2. Cleveland wedges too. Get some with rust on it too for the wedges
Thanks for the feedback!
Just started this new addiction called golf. I now understand. My questions is…. I know I’m new but I’m looking at a Mavrik Max 10.5 driver, or the Epic Max 10.5…. Any suggestions?
Both are honestly great drivers! It’s always nice to go test them out a golf shop, if possible.
I need something to get back in the groove , nothing pricy just something to beat the lads with 😎
Haha, that’s all that matters!
Hey guys thanks for the video. I am getting interested in playing golf. I have always been a fan of the sport but now I wast to get into it. My question is what type of shaft to get with the clubs?
Awesome! Good time to get into it!
When it comes to shaft, you can go to a local golf shop that has a simulator, and get fitted (sometimes they’ll kind of fit you for free if they notice the club you’re swinging isn’t working for your swing speed).
But if you don’t get fitted, it’s usually best to start out with a Regular shaft or low tier of Stiff Shaft.
How is the Callaway Edge set golf club? Should I buy the full set or buy clubs individually? I have been playing golf for 7 months. Thank you
Edge is a pretty good set, especially for beginners. The full set of irons wouldn’t be a bad idea.
@@GolfAscending thank you
I am a beginner golfer, wants to know how to choose golf clubs that will fit my height.
Standard club lengths for men fit heights from 5’7” - 6’1” roughly. If you are outside those height ranges, you may want to get fitted for correct club lengths.
Which clubs get the most ladies ? I want em staring
Cobra for sure. And then you can get the Ricky Fowler Puma outfits to match!
My wife is getting into golf because of work. Her company enters into a lot of charity events where they play a lot of golf. Is there a major difference between men's golf clubs and women's golf clubs? Could I shop around using the same methods or lean more towards just buying a full brand new set.
Honestly no major difference in men's vs. women's aside from marketing and the shaft flex. For women, if you can find ladies flex, "a" flex (senior), or regular you should be good. Depending on your height you may need them trimmed down to size.
i use taylormade aeroburner and i love them
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
I think even if you’re a new golfer to get a professional fitting before you buy clubs. Being fitted will stop you from getting clubs that are just not right for you and also save you a lot of money in the long run.
Hard to say, as someone just starting could change their swing drastically within a season or two. Especially if they get lessons.
just started golfing and want to buy some clubs budget is around 400 dollars what do you think is a good club set?
That is a low budget, but it’s possible! We did a video on buying clubs on a low budget, and you can get some great deals on used clubs. Here is the video we did: ruclips.net/video/fgdW63EvGg8/видео.html
Hope that helps!
Video Idea: 1 and 2 Irons.
I have a horrible slice with a driver. Like so bad that I aim at the cars driving down the road to the left of the fairway and that's the only way I can land on the fairway. (Another video idea: how tf do I fix that??!!)
BUT, I have much more control with irons, so often I will end up teeing off with a 1 iron. And I always think of that quote Lee Trevino quote, "If you're ever caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1 iron. Even God can't hit a 1 iron." lol.
But a video on 1 irons, and 2's are rarely used as well (I use both often, but I totally suck), I think that might be a good, funny video.
Edit: I just noticed 3 irons aren't on your list either, and that's like my most used club!!! Am I crazy? What am I doing wrong??!! I'm going golfing tomorrow for my 41st birthday, and that's why I've been asking questions on all your videos. I plan on golfing more often now, and I already subbed to your channel, because you guys are very informative and seem to respond to questions. But now I'm almost demanding a video on 1-3 irons!! haha
Haha, we do have videos on a 1 iron as well as video reviews of driving irons. If you like driving irons and play well with them, then there’s nothing wrong with that!
Many golf coaches will suggest using your longest most accurate club off the tee (not always driver). For some people that’s a hybrid, wood, or driving iron. Lots of options out there.
And happy birthday!! Hope you enjoy your round!
@@GolfAscending oh I looked through your videos and didn't see one. I'll look again!
Great video. However, I have no idea where to buy the clubs. In addition, is there any difference between Hybrids and Drivers? Thanks!
Hybrids are long iron replacements, example: 3 hybrid would replace a 3 iron. Fairway Woods are more similar to the driver, however they are smaller and have more loft. Hope this helps answer your questions.
Ping g5 irons Odessey putter Taylor made burner rescue 2.0 and burner driver
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Don’t forget Cleveland makes drivers too
👍
Do you guys recommend getting a whole set with driver irons and putter or buying separately?
It is generally a good idea to buy separately, that way you get the clubs that match you and your swing best. You may like the driver, but hate the putter. There are many variations to each club. However, you can get lucky and get a great set, with everything you want in one.
@@GolfAscending appreciate it! I'm just getting into golf and your videos are a great resource! Thank you!
John Mallillin awesome! Golf is great!! You’ll love it and hate it! Haha! We’re glad we could help! Thanks for watching!
I’m looking into buying a good set of irons. And certain set that is affordable that you could recommend?
Hey Tyson! If you follow the tips in this video you should be set on the right path. As far as recommending a specific set, there are just so many out there, and so many different variable that work for different golfers, that you would probably be better off if you went to a local golf retailer and tested out different iron sets.
From there, if you find you like a set that you tested, but don't like the price, try and find a used set on eBay or some other online retailer to get a price you would be comfortable with. And if those specific irons are too expensive used, research other brands of clubs, or slightly older versions that have similar specs.
Hope that helps!
If I'm not going to get a fitting, how would you go about deciding at what place in the bag a beginner should replace an iron for a hybrid or 2. I know it is common to only go up to about a 5 or 6 iron than a 5 and 3 hybrid. Looking for a quick guide to deciding for my first bag.. clubhead speed whatever you think is a good strategy?
If you have fast club head speed, you would probably do well with long irons and or utility irons. But sometimes hybrids are just preference as well, as there are tour players who use hybrids. Brady likes hybrids, and Tyson likes long irons (but Tyson does have a faster club head speed, and is also a better ball striker).
A common golf bag would go up to 5 iron, and then 4 hybrid, 5 wood, 3 Wood, Driver.
Better to buy a whole set? Or just small sets
Getting an iron set together is ideal, but piecing together everything else according to your wants and needs works pretty well.
I’m 18 and been playing for about 6 months and I have the t300s. Are these a good option?
Yep! Great first set of irons! They should be pretty forgiving.
What would you recommend I get get down the line as I improve?
Since you are already in the T300...a very easy transition would be to T200, then T100. There are similar models of irons from other brands as well that work down in progression like Titleist does. Hope this helps!
Golf newbie here. This is such a good video guys! Thank you
Glad we could help!
New to golf. Demo’d some player enhancement clubs and felt I was hitting Taylormade Sim Max well. Should I proceed with buying?
Taylormade SIMs would be an awesome set to start out with!
I started in August and I started and I had a old set from my dads that he got a garage sale. And now I’m more into it I’m doing a league and on my school golf team and I want new clubs and equipment
Awesome!! That will be exciting!
Would u recommend customizing my own set with 6 clubs or buy a set as a beginner
For long term, having 6 nicer clubs might be nicer, and then just add more clubs as budget allows. However, you can score a nice set of secondhand clubs for a good deal if you keep your eyes open.
@@GolfAscending what clubs would you recommend
I am a bit confused i really liked the callaway big bertha b21 set but should i buy the graphite or the steel shaft set (i am a beginner)
Honestly just depends on feel. I would go try these clubs out and get professional help from a fitter at the golf shop they are selling these. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the video, exactly what I was looking for. It would be awesome if you did a follow up with more specific models for beginners, I'm looking for a set but I am a bit surprised at how steep prices are for the main brands
Awesome! We are glad this video was helpful! And you are in luck! We have another follow up video that should help you with purchasing a solid set of clubs, with the brands we mentioned, at a good price. Check out the video here: ruclips.net/video/fgdW63EvGg8/видео.html (or go to our list of videos; the title is "Best Cheap Golf Club Set Under $450?! | Quality Golf Brands Only"
Used market is almost dead for us south paws.... Sucks... But hey whatever gave me a good excuse to buy a new set of M2 Irons
WhiteHotShaft thanks for the view! I agree, if you are looking for something specific in left handed, it is slim pickins for sure! In our Cobra King Utility review I express my frustration with Cobra not even making the club available in lefty! STUPID! However, there are some great deals out there if you are patient. I also recommend using the Facebook Group "Lefty Buy & Sell". Great resources for those who golf on the "right" side of the ball!
WhiteHotShaft be sure to check out our latest video, I actually take my own advice and put together a complete set for under $450! And YES, they are lefty clubs and some hidden gems!
What are your thoughts on not carrying a driver? I recently started going to my 3 wood off the tee instead of the driver. I feel like I always struggle with my driver and with my 3 wood I don’t get much less yardage but way better accuracy. Could this hurt my play in the long run? I’ve been contemplating taking it out of my bag recently but not sure if it’s a good idea
Brady did that exact thing for a time. If the driver is detrimental to your game and scoring, then leave it out. However, if you have time to practice the driver, and even get one fitted to you, then an extra 30-50 yards off the tee can be SUPER helpful. If you’re driving well, you get to use your “scoring clubs” more often to get to the green.
And even once you do get comfortable with your driver, some days it’s just best to leave it in the bag.
Thanks for the noob breakdown. This helped me a lot.
Ketul Poshia awesome! We’re glad it helped! Good luck finding the right clubs! And have fun!
How does this translate to a woman's needs in her golf bag. For example are hybrid recommended over some irons ?
Totally up to you. However, it is common in starter clubs for women to include an extra 5 hybrid or 7 wood.
@@GolfAscending mine has both of those. Than you ❤️.
Perfect! Thanks for watching!
What are your thoughts on PXG? I’m based in the desert (AZ) and see their shops all the time
PXG are good if you can find a deal!
Good Introductory video but no mention of Wilson Staff? Quality clubs and great value, particularly on the second hand market.
Wilson Staff only recently started bringing out quality stuff. So if you're buying new, then great, but as a beginner looking to buy a cheap used set that is quality, Wilson Staff might be a little pricier. Give it a couple of years and you will most definitely find more Wilson Staff second hand clubs at cheap prices. Thanks for your comment!
My friends got me into golf I’m 15 and 5’5 should I use fitted clubs or should I buy
Men’s club and grow into them
You’re right around the height where it would be nice to have slightly shorter than standard length clubs, however if you have a hard time finding some, or paying for a new set, you would probably be fine with a standard length set, and just choke up a bit on the grip to where it feels comfortable. That’s a benefit taller people don’t have.
Love the content, guys! But…you keep it at “The Big 4”, why not bump up to five and throw Cobra more love?
We do mention Cobra and other brands later in the video (and we definitely love Cobra), but we wanted to keep it simple as to not overwhelm new golfers. Thanks for your comment!
hate to be that guy.. none of those companies have been around since the beginning of golf. the first open was in 1860, and the oldest company mentioned was titleist.. which started in the 1930's
Biscuit Technician, thanks for the the view and fact check, we realize although these companies haven't been around since the very beginning, they have shown to be the most consistent brands in the industry in this modern age of golf.
You're being that guy.
You didn’t mention the brand XXiO, which is like the “Rolls Royce” brand on clubs
Keeping it fairly simple for new golfers. We didn’t mention a lot of great brands.
Would it be weird to put a lot of brands into the same bag? Like if I would want taylormade irons, callaway wedges and putter, and cobra driver and 3 wood.
Not at all! Play whatever clubs fit your game best! Brady currently has Cobra Driver and woods, Ping Hybrid, Taylormade Irons, Titleist Vokey wedges, and a Bettinardi putter. Super mixed bag.
Cheers for the Video clip! Excuse me for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Yanaylee Yanrooklyn Magic (google it)? It is a good exclusive product for unlocking an effective golf swing technique without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my good mate called Gray at very last got great results with it.
Thank you for breaking this down. I had no idea what irons versus wedges and woods were until today. I went out to a pawn shop and found a nearly complete set of Lynx Parallax clubs for $45. Is that okay for a starter set?
That’s awesome! Glad this video was helpful. We haven’t used those clubs, but for that cheap, it sounds like a great start! If you find you end up loving the game, you can build up your bag to some upgraded clubs!
@@GolfAscending thank you for reassuring me that I didn't buy junk. I tried to do a little research and it seems like they are late '80s to early '90s clubs. In great shape though! It came with 3 & 5 woods and 4-9 irons. Just starting out I didn't want to spend too much money. But I suppose there's still a few pieces I need to get.
At that price, that’s an amazing starting point. My first set was $85 from a pawn shop, pretty junk set, but it was enough to get me started and to get into golf.
- Brady
Very informative video. I am just getting into golf and I borrowed my friends clubs for a while but I could feel they weren’t made for my height. I am 6’5” for reference. Where could I get clubs made for my height?
Local retail golf shops should be able to assist you, custom club builders, and possibly secondhand retailers. If you’re willing to buy new, there are multiple manufacturers that will build custom as well.
new to golf, been looking at a few sets mainly the Callaway XR steelheads speed set, the Costco Callaway edge, and is there any other premium sets you would suggest or which would you pick?
We generally avoid sets, but if you’re gonna go the set route, the Callaway set at Costco would be a great start. We’ve heard good things about that set.
Also here looking for advice. I have a 20 year old set of irons that I need to upgrade. Is it worth it? Also, looking for some suggestions on drivers and rescues. I have a Nike Dymo and an ancient 4h. For skill reference, I hover a bit above bogey golf but I just got started.
Hey Darien, thanks for watching! We think it would probably be wise to make a switch to some newer clubs, due to some of the technology changes in all types of clubs, including more distance, height, forgiveness, etc. Tyson was using even older clubs than yours over a year ago, and was playing just fine, but he has loves his new clubs, and the change it has made to his game.
Brady is looking to update his irons that are over 12 years old, and while testing out some of the newer irons out there, he was shocked by how amazing the feel of striking these newer clubs felt. And when it comes to Drivers, hybrids, and fairway woods, you can find clubs that are more customizable to your swing, and can make the game a little easier for you.
If you are on a budget, we have a video that talks about a budget bag of quality clubs that Tyson bought for under $450 (ruclips.net/video/fgdW63EvGg8/видео.html), and they aren't all new clubs, but they are good quality, and made a great set! If you do have the budget, then to help your game the most, you would probably want to go see a PGA professional at a local golf shop, and get fitted for clubs that suit your game best.
@@GolfAscending thanks so much for the detailed advice!
Darien Richardson no problem! Thanks again for watching!
I am a 5'2" male, and not particularly strong. Are there any considerations I need to take into account?
Timothy Sherman, thanks for watching the video! Aside from choosing clubs from the brands we listed, we would recommend finding clubs with regular shafts and irons with cavity back heads.
Timothy, as for your height, it might be worth getting fitted at a local golf store, or buying second hand clubs from someone with a similar height. Same goes for people who are 6’5” and above.
I want a decent golf set as I am a beginner, my budget is about £150 and below. Any ideas?
With a budget like that, your best bet might be to find someone selling an older set locally (or possibly a pawn shop, or secondhand store). You can still use the advice in this video for certain brands and what types of clubs.
Another option is to still buy quality clubs, but slowly build your bag as budget allows. Start out with maybe 5-6 clubs (Driver, fairway wood, 7 iron, pitching wedge, and putter).
My boss gave me a Cleveland wedge and w Nike irons for free!
Dang, that’s awesome!! Good boss!
I’m 5’8, do you guys have any recommendations for clubs. I don’t really have a budget but I want a good set. Can you help me out?
5’8” fits within the standard club length range. I would follow the advice on this video. Shop around on eBay and golf shops with pre-owned clubs, you can even get lucky at garage sells.
We have another video about shopping for a whole set under $450, which could be helpful too!
Top Flite
I’m a 6’5 14 year old and want to buy a golf package! Which one?
We tend to not recommend the cheaper golf club “packages,” but you may want to look into getting fitted for clubs, or shopping online for clubs specifically for your height. We usually shop eBay, but there are other good online golf shops that sell good secondhand equipment, such as 2nd Swing Golf.
Holy fuck 14 and your 6’5. My gawd
Fitleist and Cobra is front 1 manufactured o company
Yeah?
I saw a great price on cobras s3 pro forged 4-pw for like 190 for a iron set look as good as new but used would you recommend getting these cobras
Those would be a pretty good set of irons. However they may not be as forgiving. If you can test them out first, that is ideal, or at least do a little extra research on them to see if they fit your current golf game.
Golf Ascending right now i have foremost clubs got them used since im getting back into playing but its hard to find videos or even reviews on foremost is there anything you guys could tell me about the clubs or irons
Thanks for the tips guys! Very helpful!
You bet!
What’s your take on a used set of taylormade m2 tour irons
We’ve heard good things about them. They seem to hold their value pretty well still, even used. The M2 Woods have definitely made a name for themselves.
I got a used callaway holfsets from my boss 😅
I might try them soon
Nice!
What about Wilson are they good?
Wilson Staff clubs are great. Brady currently plays Wilson Staff Wedges.
I really like your green screen.
Hahaha, thanks!
Are xxio eleven a good and sustained one to buy?
That’s honestly not a brand we have tested or really looked into, so we can’t really speak for those. If you end up getting them, we would love to hear your thoughts!
xxio is premium brand above srixon, from dunlop, like Lexus above Toyota.
For buying clubs, should you get them from the last 10 years and is there a certain age of clubs that you shouldn’t buy like 15 years old?
Hey there, you should check out our video titled "Best Cheap Golf Set Under $450?! | Quality Golf Brands Only" (link: ruclips.net/video/fgdW63EvGg8/видео.html), which goes a little bit more into detail on the subject, but you are generally pretty good with irons, wedges, and putters within that age range. You may need to get new grips, but many clubs in that age range perform great! It would be wise to make sure the grooves on the clubs are in good condition as well.
And you can find good woods and drivers within the last 10 years as well, however I wouldn't go much farther than 10-15 years, as technology has gotten much better. More distance, customization, and forgiveness.
I’m a new golfer, I’m not the best yet tbh lol I’ve heard that Strata is also a great brand is that true?
We wouldn’t recommend Strata.
Golf Ascending any reason why?
I was told that TaylorMade is a recognizable brand name in golf but that they don't make anything high quality.... not true?
Yeah, not true. They make great quality equipment, which many of the PGA’s top pros use.
The first thing you suggest for someone totally new to golf is “buy a driver for sure”?? Wow. 😂
Umm…yes, and duh.
Nike doesn’t make equipment any more , correct ? Only apparel ?
That is correct, unfortunately.
Golf Ascending , solid video guys
Thanks!
What are y'all's thoughts on Wilson brand clubs?
We personally would avoid them. You tend to find cheaper equipment with Wilson. They have created some clubs that have surprised the golfing world, but we don’t know enough about their clubs in general to give a great recommendation. Wilson Staff however, is a high end brand of clubs, and would be nice quality. They tend to be pretty expensive though.
I was thinking of buying a set of wilson blade irons. You may have swayed me otherwise with this comment.
Mikey TheGreat are you somewhat new to golf? If so, we would also recommend that you avoid blades irons of any brand. They are harder to hit accurately, and less forgiving. Cavity back irons are generally great for high handicappers and beginners.
Just getting back into it. Haven't golfer in probably ten years. My uncle used to take me as a kid. But in the last 2 weeks I've been out to the course with a buddy. I've noticed that not many or any golfers at use blades anymore. It's almost like a lost art in the game. Just feel that being pure on a pair of blades add confidence to your game. Just my opinion.
Also Wilson clubs.
Yes, some of the newer Wilson stuff is good
Thanks guys big help
Great, glad we could help! Let us know what clubs you end up getting! 🙌
I got myself a set of hippo iron and cobra driver £50 didn’t realise at time wasn’t full set looks like i can sell them in for £100, made a mistake last week and bought honma forged irons on eBay on what looked like good buy for, getting those sent back for refund not suitable for me atm. Looking now for full set ping irons and driver second hand left handed with budget of £400max.
All in all,
£50 on clubs
£160 golf lesson
£200 golf bag, shoes & trousers ( just so I look the part )
Dude! That’s awesome! Well done
Anyone has any advice on a Ray cook silver rcx? I want to get into the sport but I’m on a budget.
Hey there, you should check out our video titled "Best Cheap Golf Set Under $450?! | Quality Golf Brands Only" (link: ruclips.net/video/fgdW63EvGg8/видео.html). We haven't actually played Ray Cook clubs, but from a quick search, they do look like a cheaper brand, which could mean lower quality. We would suggest buying used clubs that are quality. If you can wait, buy the clubs in pieces, so you get the styles you want. If you really want an entire bag, there are sites to find people selling their whole set of clubs. Might be better off with older used clubs that are better quality.
I’m a beginner and I’m 6’7 and fell in love with the game, do I really need to get special clubs because of my height?
Depends on if you feel comfortable with regular sizes but if it’s just too small you should look into it
Yeah, if you feel comfortable using standard lengths, go for it. Longer clubs might be easier on your back though, and could make the game a little more enjoyable
is ping g30 iron set good for beginner level?
Yeah, we think you’d be pretty happy with those. If you can, you should test them out first.
Exact content i am into right now! I happen to gravitate to Callaway, but so many choices so little time... No real outfitters out here. I have the mind to stick with odds (357&9 irons) any particular wedge out of the three that would be best?
If you were to only do one wedge, a 56 degree would probably be a good choice.
What are you’re thoughts on pgx clubs
PXG is a great brand, we didn't mention it here because they are at the very top of the price spectrum. We wouldn't recommend PXG to a beginner unless they were to go and get fitted due to that high price point.
Why not a cheap set so you can Learn the swing then out grow the club and upgrade.
We have a video showing how to find great clubs for cheap. We are not advocating for spending a lot of money, just to get quality where you can.
mizuno irons all the way!
Great irons!
Thank u guys this was great
Thanks for watching!
This was really informative and helpful thank u !!
Awesome! we are glad it helped!
Do you guys know what makes clubs better than others?
Great question! Also, there is a lot to it, but it comes down to the actual quality of the materials used, and the technology behind the actual clubs, even irons are much more complicated today than they ever have been. However, there are pretty good quality budget clubs and brands out there, but sticking to brands that have been doing research for years and years is a pretty good bet.
Golf Ascending thank you so much I really needed the help somewhere and I was looking for it
David Nto awesome!! Glad we could help! Thanks for watching!
Just wonderful, I've been looking for "golf for beginners" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Keniden Benilliam Release - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my partner got great success with it.
How's 2020 Tommy Armour 845
We haven’t personally tried them, however the forged look to have similar technology as other popular irons out right now, but we haven’t tested/used them.
Callaway always the best
I don't own a single Callaway Golf club...I guess I'm holding myself back lol!
Are rams good
We wouldn’t recommend. But if people just want a cheap set to go every once and a while, sure.
Thanks guys
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Top flight good ?
There are very few Top Flite models I would recommend. I would stay away...they do have a pretty good putter that's older that is very budget I'd recommend, it's called "Micro Groove". An eBay search and you'll find some in the $30 range. Hope this helps.
@@GolfAscending thank you it dose
audio was a bit low
Yeah, we have since bought ourselves a nice mic! Thanks for watching!
Golf Ascending yeah the intro blew my ears off after I turned the volume up
Big Annoying Banana so sorry!! That is the worst!
Great video
Thanks!
Great effort and set up for the video. But your info was slightly bland and obvious. Being the video is for beginners you should have covered lower end clubs like Wilson and Dunlop for example. Everybody know that Taylormade, Titleist etc are the better ones.
For our purposes, we think this is perfect beginners. We would suggest that people beginning AVOID Wilson and Dunlop, and buy the better quality brands used instead of new. We made another video about creating a budget set with good, quality brands for under $450 (and could honestly be less, because we splurged on a nicer putter). Link for that video here: ruclips.net/video/fgdW63EvGg8/видео.html
Thats great for men but what about women's clubs
It’s pretty general info in this video, works for all golfers. Just different shaft flex for women. Most the brands mentioned also sell women’s clubs.
Thanks fellas !
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Hey I’m 14 what clubs should I get?
Hey Brock, great question! The advice in this video can apply to almost any age/golfer. If you’re starting out new, it’s generally advised to purchase cavity back irons (more forgiving), and most likely regular flex shafts.
If you are on the shorter end in height, then you may want to look into clubs with a shorter shaft. A quick google search will tell you a good shaft length according to height.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Thanks
For sure! Good luck in finding the right clubs!
What about cobra? They Are cheaper and better then all the Brands you mention
You must not have watched the full video. Go to minute 4:46 where we mention Cobra.
This video provided no insight other brands and saying the brands make all the clubs
Trying to keep it simple for new golfers to choose from reliable brands.
Wilson?
Wilson Staff clubs have really stepped up their game recently, and have proven to be pretty good.
Ping eye 2’s
Nice!
*we buy golf clubs*
Cool.
You left out cobra which Ben beastin
We mentioned Cobra in the video. Or are you talking about something else?
