I'm happy you are featuring other places in Czech republic ( not only Prague) Thank you!
I live in Olomouc and I have to say that it's one of the best-looking cities in czech republic. Prague is also cool of course. And Olomouc contains lots of secret places as well as Prague.
My wife is from cerna hora and I can’t believe that we never been there, great city!
How to pronounce the name Olomouc correctly?
@@d.6593 Something like that [:Olomouts:]
@@d.6593 Oh-low-motes
The only thing they didn't mention are the ''catacombs'' under the St. Mauris church (sv. Mořice), or the pipe organ inside (7th biggest in Central Europe, and 52nd biggest in the world). The catacombs are small, but they have pretty cool history to them. And nothing about our little cathedral (Saint Wenceslas Cathedral)? Oh well, at least the most important things were covered.
I promised a random guy I was chatting to on the Prague metro that I would visit his beautiful hometown of Olomouc and I did, and it was a absolute joy. Guess what I’m visiting again next week 3 years later and jolly excited.
Hidden secret of olomouc. There is a company's shop from nestlé. There you can buy sweets which are odd shaped or broken for 1/10th of price. Like a bag of m&m for 5eur for 1kg.
@@Pyrochemik007 how its called?
@@LoLeQ88"Podniková prodejna Zora", but maps found it under Nestlé as well.
I LOVE Olomouc! One of my favourite cities in the world! (and not just because my parents met at that university and were married in the town hall with that astronomical clock) Apparently, the original version of that astronomical clock is older than the one in Prague, the trinity column is one of the tallest/biggest in Europe, the city boasts TWO squares (perpendicular to each other), an AMAZING car and motorcycle museum, Wenceslas (yes, THAT Wenceslas of the Chrismas carol fame) Cathedral has the skull of St. Valentine (yes, THAT St. Valentine of St. Valentine's Day), Mozart lived in Olomouc, and I would strongly recommend renting a bike at the train station and biking around and outside of town... it's a beautiful place!
Not only Mozart, but also Mahler. In fact, their houses are a 5 minute walk from each other. Sadly, Mahler reportedly hated Olomouc.
I visited my friends in Olomouc when they were Erasmus students few years ago and I absolutly adore this city
First half of video: detailed explanations even covering the earth's rotation
5 beers later: "this was a big experience"
This gives me so much nostalgia. I'm American but have a Czech mom from Olomouc. I really want to go back there. I actually wanted to study as a student at Palacký but it was too daunting moving from the USA across the world.
You're not really American if you have a Czech mom..
I'm proud to be a student of the Palacký University. I have to say that this city offers so many opportunities to grab food, relax, do activities... and the best bonus about it is how beautiful the city looks, especially the city centre and areas surrounding the faculty buildings.
Díky moc, Janku a Honzo! Been waiting for this video. Hodně štěstí!
Oh man, that gyroscope thing takes me back to when I was 18 or 19. My local indie rock club decided that it would be cool to rent one for a night. The same night that they also had an offer for cheap tequila shots.
It went EXACTLY as you'd imagine
Oooh, another city to my Czechia itinerary! I really enjoy you guys doing videos of different cities to give us a bigger picture of what CR has to offer!
I lived in Olomouc for 8 years and absolutely loved living there! Great city! Thanks for doing this video - I’ll have to visit again soon as there were a couple places I didn’t know about!
Another tip when visiting Long Story Short, you can borrow from them a set of pétanque balls and play it down the stairs!
I studied at the Palacky University, and I love Olomouc. Lovely city to experience the Czech culture and pub life. I am so happy that you made this video. In Vertigo, the mad dog shot is a must-try too
I was in Olomouc a month ago, I am fall in love this city and its atmosphere. I wish I knew about university to see the pendulum and the terrace. I hope to return soon there (too bad i'm a little too old to study, it would be really a lovely experience.)
you are never too old to study, as you learn new things every day.
I hear that. It's now on my agenda for my next trip.
Fantastic video. I taught with the faculty of science - great people and great city! Can't wait to go back, so many new places. It was a beautiful city to call home for a semester and keeps getting better.
I lived in Olomouc just over a year, it is was one of the most underrated cities in CZ. I love and miss that city tremendously.
I lived in Olomouc for a month during an IFMSA exchange program. I loved it. It was sweet, cute and cozy place full of sights and good destinations. It felt like home and I miss it sooo much.
My first trip to Olomouc was during Christmas and I loved every inch of it!
I love Olomouc, I studied there 30 years ago at the Letni Skola Slovanskych Studium. I visited there 1 month ago and it is still magical. I wish I had seen this video before I went.
I loved this episode! Very well done!
I'm so happy you did a video on Olomouc!!! I went to the Czech summer school at Palacky University last year and LOVED it... my dorm building was right behind the science centre 😁
I cycled from Brno to Olomouc on the amazing Eurovelo 9 this year - highly recommend!
Podebrady lake was nice to swim.
After visiting Prague (and few more cities mentioned in the "old" version of Honest guide) these are my favorite episodes, hope to visit other cities in CZ.
Thanks for an amazing video! :) I have traveled a lot around the whole Europe, but still I think that Olomouc, the town where I spent five lovely years when I was a student, is the most beautiful city in the world! :)
Really appreciate your work!!
I was in Olomouc a few years ago. Also really enjoyed the city. Great video.
Actually, the bartender at Vertigo is my former student (I used to teach him English) and back then I asked him to do an "Honest guide-like" videos as his seminar work 🙂. He covered Olomouc as well, if I am not mistaken. What a coincidence 😳☺.
I've been to Olomouc twice, and I love it! Can't wait to visit it more soon. The sights are amazing, the food is delicious and it is easy to manage and get around in the city. Plus the trains leading to the city are cheap and luxurious compared to other European countries. A definite recommendation to visit!
Thank you! I hope to visit next year. Plan is to drive from Prague, stay 2 days in Telc then a day in Brno and 3 days in Olomouc. Looks like a great, beautiful, chilled out city.
That food looks amazing. Great video again. Cheers guys
Thanks for the tour! Looks beautiful!
Thank you, this was very informative!
One of my favourite places in Czech, been visiting many times
Great video! I was there after TBEX in 2018 and stayed at the Theatre Hotel, which is both a fantastic property and restaurant. BTW I enjoyed hearing you guys speak at the conference.
really love your guys videos and hope you'll show Liberec some day :)
Had a blast when I went there in 2016. Highly recommend.
Hope to see Liberec some day.
Thanks so much. Olomouc will be my next destination.
Love Olomouc. One of my favourite Czech cities.
Olomouc’s annual International Organ Festival is of interest to the organ buffs! The city has several impressive pipe organs.
The Church of St Maurice is home to one of the largest pipe organs in central Europe. It has over 10,000 pipes. The Cathedral of St Wenceslas has an imposing romantic organ built in 1886, preserved in its original state and of unusual tonal beauty. Most of its continental contemporaries have been destroyed, either by war or by insensitive modernisations. It retains that dark, full bodied sound typical of the late 1800's.
Church attendance is clearly on decline, but organ recitals seem to attract increasingly larger and younger audiences. Maybe it's because of the instruments overwhelming character. It offers a spiritual experience without any preaching, a way to reset the mind.
When I started reading your comment, I thought it was about intestines… 😅
I like Olomouc. My tour was in 2016. I sat in a beer bar, tasting some beers. Amazing then: a guy spoke to me in German when considering my German accent. He told me: it was a German speaking town until 1945. The child caring girl of him was German until she was dispelled in 1950, so he remembered some German.
By the way: Bouzov Castle in the near is a trip worth!
It was a military base of austrian empire. German was enforced in it. All lieutenants and higher were living in there. Habsburgs kept their blood as moravian arcibishop in olomouc. City walls due to being fortress limited the center to state employees, whixh were german speakers due to 300 of persecution. After 1918, city walls were removed and the city was joined with nearby villages with czech population. This conservism is why so many old houses were preserved, and why they are quite highrise compared to other cities in the same period
It was a common practice to hire nanny from german family, so the kid naturaly learned secind language. It was the same for german minority living in todays czech republic.
My girl went to school way back in the day there. And we passed through it on the way to Opava. Looks like a nice city! I'd like to stop by next time we are there
I was last in Olomouc in 1990 and at that time, times were a-changing. Looks as good now as I expected then.
Thanks for the video. Olomouc is my wife's home town so we'll definitely try some of your recommendations next time which will also be my third visit 🙂
I visited a couple years ago for a wedding, and I loved it
Missing my Erasmus days in Pardubice... I had an ambition to visit as many places as possible in Czech lands:
Pardubice, Prague, Kolin, Kutna Hora, Mlada Boleslav, Terezin, Olomouc, Ostrava, Cesky Tesin, Karvina, Cesky Krumlov, Ceska Trebova, Moravska Trebova, Hradec Kralove, Chrudim, Karlovy Vary, Plzen, Brno, Breclav, Snezka, Trutnov were the places where I spent time (either a couple of days or at least 4-5 hours). As a Turkish, I liked to explore Bohemia, Moravia and Silesianmoravia. I will never forget Ceske Drahy, RegioJet, Arriva and LeoExpress on those journeys...
Greetings from Sulawesi!
Olomouc krásná na Hané leží! ♥️
Certainly looks like a place I would enjoy visiting.. In my list now
You really made me wanna go there!!! Really!!!
Welcome to our Sister City! I LOVE Olomouc! Olomouc has multiple Sister Cities, but my favorite connection is the connection between Olomouc and Owensboro, Kentucky. I have made numerous trips to Olomouc.
Wow, it is amazing. I live in Olomouc, but I didn't have a clue about all of this places. I definitely need to visit The Paulus bistro. Cool.
My Erasmus city
You guys are the best all your videos is very informative .I'm a filipina and my husband is from Praque .hope one day we can visit there to see how beautiful the Praque is .my husband come here in South Australia when he was 10 years old and because of you guys he is very excited to come in his home town one day ❤

We are travelling to Czech Republic in May from Australia.
Hiring a car and travelling the countryside . we won't be doing Prague though.
I live in Brno and ever only went to Olomouc, ironically, is for the go-karting place :D I basically grew up on the go-kart race and absolutely love it
I was in Olomouc years ago mainly for the Christmas markets, but I also went to the Nepalese restaurant because a friend recommended it to me 😄
And the Pevnost poznání reminds me of Techmania in Plzeň 😄
I visited Olomouc in 1989......it was beautiful then.... but WOW! Well done! Can't wait for another visit ! Czechs are very friendly & fun!....👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻...ps...I am from Hollywood, CA....🤓
Now it’s on my list 👍👍😎😎
I am here and i love your channel
a great view over the city from an university building does also exist in munich. you can get up onto the architecture builing in the technical university and they even have a small café up there.
I love these kind of viewpoints
Amazing video 😍 please make some about Ostrava if it's worth to visit
Ah Ostrava. One of the most hate citys in czechia. But i think its really cool. (Excapt the factories and trasport)
Omg I never expected to see a Nepali restaurant there haha. Amazing!
There Is a couple od them around czech republic And they are very popular
Awesome video. I hope you guys will cover Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava as well. The 3 capitals are well connected through train and would make an awesome multi-city trip.
They've been in Bratislava already, but the video might have been deleted.
I am searching for that video in Bratislava but I can't find that.. I know I have seen that
Bratislava is boring mate....
@@felixtomasek Oh, come on
I wasn't a fan of Vienna. Felt old and stuffy. Everything closed early. Great cake and sandwiches though.
Wow, what a view
jsi nejlepší honza mikulka 👍
I love Olomouc too, was there a few times years ago. The pizza looked delicious! Hope you enjoyed the stinky tvaruzky!
That place rocks! Prague is still my favorite.
I live in Olomouc and is cool
Another great video.
You say you love Karting, have you been to CM Karting in Prague? What an amazing setup they have there.
My favorite city in Czechia, small old city, almost no tourists. My favorite restaurant is Drapal, and old fashioned Czech menu (svickova + beer, no veggies).
For fun: "OLOMOUC SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL", this is my dream.
See, I'm Polish, Czech language sounds like baby talk to me, I'm afraid I will laugh the whole "Macbeth". Should be fun
🤣🤣🤣
Ostrava is waiting for your visit :D
Visited Olomouc after watching this, stayed at Long Story Short which was great and the pizza from Street Pizza was fantastic, we'll try to get to Bistro Paulus before we leave
I hope you enjoyed it!
I love how many beers you drink per video :D
Loved Olomouc! Waiting for the Hradec Králové video :)
I love Hradec Králové. My husband is from there. And I will love to know about new or old but not so known places to visit, when we go there from Brazil.
Never been to Olomouc, but looks cool
love or hate tvaruzky there is no in between ❤
Moje Olomouc
Paulus! Tyvole toho už pro mne dost abych chtěl Olomouc navštívit!
Excellent :)
Tomorrow i will take the Train from Unicov and we will discovery Olomouc!!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Wow, nice city :)
Me and my girl always go there for holidays to visit her family(we dont live in CZ) Yes, I can confirm, after being there for so many times, it is a really nice city, country side too. And I would recommend to visit Zoo there, its brilliant :)
14:20 In the RCO building, when you go to 17'th floor, there is actually a telescope from that window :D next time ask more ! (ok I was watching , and on the internet there is nothing about it, but i swear it is there, i was there a few times, when I was waiting for the bus or train )
We have a pendulum in Hollywood at the planetarium. It has a sand bottom, instead of a graph of lines, so you can actually see the rotation.
Wooo!
I'll be there soon 😆
další úžasné video děkuji
My grandparents owned or leased a racetrack for horses from about 1912 to 1926 in Olomouc. It was made into military barracks later allegedly. Would be nice to know if it still exists. I have never met my grandparents but heard wonderful stories about riding horses when my mother her sister and brother lived on the racetrack as children. When their mother died it was all sold and they moved to Prague as teenagers. Please let me know if it still exists and if so what purpose does it serve today. You indicated the motion of the pendulum counterclockwise but the pendulum moves as I expected it with the clock. Thanks, nice video. Did you hear the name of kvargle for the delicious little aged cheese ?
update: the holy trinity column is currently being restorated. apparently it will take around three years for it to be done and visible again (currently there is a bunch of scaffolding and plastic covers around it, maybe they will slowly reveal it as they make progress but who knows).
Looking forward to visiting both Olomouc and also Brno since, Prague aside, the Czech Republic remains a bit of a mystery in spite of all the culture and history that stems from the place. The thing is both cities are quite difficult to access from my location in Southern Europe, the only feasible option that I know of being flying to Prague or Vienna, both popular destinations with flights that tend to fill up quickly. Also, wife is an architect and she says both cities feature some very intriguing sites, hope I can make it soon! Thanks for the video.
I would recomend to fly to Vienna and then take the bus right from the airport to Brno or Olomouc, it’s cheap, fast and quite comfy, unlike the journey from Prague, which could sometimes be a bit.. how to say it 😬 fucking dreadful 😂
@@filipcundrle803 Thank you so much!
6th comment love ur vids
Snyt happens, cheers!
I have to reccomend Fishy Sushi restaurant. They do make very delicious sushi, sashimi and few more things.
Do Zlin next pls thank youu
Just went to Kathmandu restaurant. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is unmatched.
In general, please tourists, whether you’re from the US China China or just here from Europe,I always recommend going off the more beaten track. In my experiences it has been a lot better experience overall. Like instead of Amsterdam go to Leeuwarden. Good day.
Absolutely agreed
Most definitely! My favourite cities are exactly those (Ghent, Regensburg, Malmö, Rennes, Rouen, Utrecht, etc.)
Svatovaclavske Brewery has great beer, but beware ordering the pork knuckle since it is by weight, and sometimes they only have large ones so you might end up paying 25 to 30 euros, which might be a great option if you are sharing.
Must visit place to eat is Karamba Pizza. For only 190 czk or about 7,5 eur you can get 1 plus 1 pizza free every day from 10.00 till 17.00. Pizza is really good and the deal seems incredible!
This was a tough decision. It was this or watching a guy camp in a coyote den. I figured it had 2 or 3 endings. One the camp went fine, 2 he woke up and the pups think they have a big brother or 3 his face gets chewed off by momma coyote🤣. I'm friends with 2 people on social media that live in olomouc. Nice to see parts if their town
