    Once you are aware of all the harmful things that can hurt your body you will never look at food, products, etc the same way. Natural is the way to go. Thank you for creating awareness

      I have been changing everything about my life for the past few months now. You can't UNknow any of these things! It's crazy how main stream all of this bad stuff is... The decision makers care about their bottom line and profits more than the people that spend their money and trust that the products we buy are actually "safe"!!!

    • @Legal.Knievel
      @Legal.Knievel 7 лет назад +13

      Natural does not mean safe. There are an abundance of poisons, harmful bacteria, toxins, etc that are natural. Just because something is natural does not mean it's good you; nature can kill you. Organic foods, particularly produce have been shown to produce more natural toxins and the natural pesticides they use are more harmful to humans than synthetic pesticides. There is also a higher chance of contracting e-coli from organic produce due the manure used as fertilizer. Also, there is no such thing as chemical-free. The air you breathe and the water you drink is a chemical. It's time for people to get educated and stop following trends that are dangerous.

    I just bought the Thinx underwear and they work really well. You can use them as a panty liner for a diva cup or tampon, or you can wear them as a pad. They are more secure than pads because you don't have to worry about them moving around. Also, Thinx donates reusable pads to girls in developing countries with every purchase. They are expensive, but hopefully if they last a long time then they will be worth it.

    Alba, I've been using the menstrual cup for around a year now and I am so glad I tried it out. I used to struggle a lot with getting it to sit correctly inside of me but I feel like I've mastered it. I wanted to share some tips with you :) When you insert it, it doesn't matter which side of the cup (front or back) is facing your body. What really makes the biggest difference is whether the rim of the cup forms an air-tight seal with your vaginal walls. When you insert the cup and hear/feel it open up and unfold, you can gently tug on the silicone cord at the bottom and you should be searching for a "suction" feeling. If the cup slides back out easily it means it wasn't suctioned. But if you feel like there is resistance when you try to pull on the cord, you probably did it correctly! When there is suction, there is a seal that prevents any blood from leaking out. This seal should last you all day until you empty the cup. I hope this helps a little, good luck! P.S. I love your videos and I have learned so much from you since I found your channel. Thank you for all that you do

      Dubblejayy I always use my cup combined with a pad as backup b/c my flow is RIDICULOUS the majority of my period due to fibroids. I always leak at least a little bit but I still love using a menstral cup b/c it catches soooo much of my flow that it makes it worth it to me

      @CoconutCurls 7 лет назад +3

      Dominika x , Dubblejayy , MamacitaNatural yea, I usually get leaks on the first or second day (whichevers heaviest) of my cycle which is unfortunate but there are so many more positives like the fact that I can insert it & forget I'm even on my period (aka no pain, irritation, or changing it every few hours).

    This was a really great video! I didn't realize there were reusable pads on the market (wouldn't mind trying that someday) and your tips for preventing/helping menstrual cramps were super helpful *thumbs up* (Deff gonna try the ACV) I hadn't considered the synthetic materials in pads might be harmful... thankfully, I've always avoided those with fragrances as I noticed it would just cause irritation and UTIs for me. But exploring more natural/organic options sounds awesome. Last but not least, I just wanted to share some further tips on natural/preventative remedies for cramps:
    1. Exercise regularly.
    2. Drink brewed organic oregano tea all throughout the month, but especially in the days leading up to your period. (I have plants in my yard and just pick a handful of leaves, wash them, boil them in water for about 12-15 minutes, and then drink throughout the day.)
    3. Limit caffeine in days leading up to period and don't take any caffeine on the first 1-2 days of your period.
    4. Heating pad! Hot baths sometimes help too. (but be careful standing up right after, as your body temp will be a little out of whack and you could faint.)
    5. B complex can help, but that might not be for everyone.
    6. Dong quai (same as above)
    I use a variety of these methods in controlling the severity of my cramps, as I've always had pretty bad ones. Will deff be trying the ACV remedy (adding about 1 tsp. of baking soda might help with improving PH levels too?) and I'm going to check out that tea... I used to take an herb-based PMS capsule formula in the days leading up to my period that helped SO much but I have not been able to find it in stores anywhere, or online since! :( Eurgh... but I hope these tips help somebody out there! I'm always trying to find new ways to lessen the pain... Also do you think your cramps are less because you've had a child? My mom no longer gets cramps after having children - something to look forward to I guess! haha

    I'm so happy you made this video! I stopped using traditional menstrual products years ago. I never got into the cotton tampons, but I did try Luna tampons, but I always go back to my diva cup. If I so happen to get my time of the month while I'm out and about and didn't bring it with me. I like soft cups and are similar to the diva cup. They are disposable and available at drugstores which is now owned by The Flex Company which is made with safe ingredients. It took me a while to figure out how to use my diva cup and I almost got discouraged until I tried the soft cup and this got me to get the hang of it. I also suggest practicing using it even when you aren't on your cycle. Unlike traditional tampons, since its safer to use during your cycle. You won't risk getting Toxic Shock Syndrome. The best way to know its in there is to tug on the end and if it doesn't budge then it suctioned in there the right way. Once I got a washer and dryer, I fell in love with cloth pads and now that I'm expecting another baby in May. I want to try cloth diapers instead of disposables. What birth control do you use? I was using the Natural Family Planning for 6 years before we decided to try for another one.

    Thank you so much Alba for making this video! I have been learning more about toxic ingredients in our food, cosmetics, products and feminine products as well and was so upset when I found out that there is no regulation on feminine products! Anyways about a year ago I started using the diva cup and I really like it because it is easy to use, i can hardy tell that it's there, it's reusable, and safe for me and the environment. Please keep trying it and don't give up with it, it does take some getting use to. Your cervix can affect it as well, depending on how deep it is located etc. For me the insertion isn't the problem if not the removal, it can be uncomfortable but it's getting better. Along with it I use the thinx underwear in case there is some leakage, i know they can be pricey but I saw it as an investment in myself and bought a 5 pack, 2 medium and 2 light flow underwear. I also try to take an evening primrose oil capsule and it helps to ease menstrual side effects. Thanks for all you do! I love your channel, I've been following you for such a long time and you have inspired me to love my hair and be a healthier person, thank you! 😘

  • @waterlily716
    @waterlily716 7 лет назад

    Hey Alba. It doesn't matter which direction the cup is facing when you fold it *most of the time*. You may want to look up a cup folding video. There is an inverted fold where you fold the lip in. Idk if that makes sense via text but I have found it's a bit easier. Another thing to pay attention to is whether your cup is below your cervix as well as making sure it's sealing properly. You can swirl a finger around the cup to make sure it's fully open/sealed. Great vid- thanks for making it! I use a lunette cup and love it :)

    At the bodily level, Vitamin D and Magnesium help with cramps. Often people who get cramps lack either or both of these.

    Dark chocolate is not bad for you during your period, the problem is that you were eating chocolate that has sugar and fats and that's is not healthy at all ( in your period or any other time). A cup of of hot chocolate that contains: organic cocoa, milk ( nuts' milk if you don't go for dairy products) and sweetened with stevia or coconut sugar won't be bad for your health and it will really boost you mood. It's not as healthy as a cup of green tea but its not unhealthy either.

    I have went from using store bought sanitary napkins to using Cherish Sanitary Napkins. They are natural napkins and by using them i went from having a 7 day cycle to having a 4 to 5 day cycle. Doing so was the best decision I ever made. I made myself aware of the harmful things found in store bought products. Thank you for doing a video like this, putting out informative information!

    I use a diva cup and I don't fold mine that way. I'd look up different ways to insert it. I push one of the sides down and insert it then twist it and make sure it's suctioned well and far enough. I'm not able to see or feel the tip on the outside. If that makes sense. I use essential oils for cramps.

    Alba, you are just amazing! Your videos are always very clutch and you steer me in the right direction. I had just found out about the toxins in pads and tampons (4-5 months ago), but never did any real research for alternatives. But please make more hair routine videos and the products you use... or even, make a "Get Ready/ Unready With Me" with the products you use on your body, hair and skin. You are always very radiant and fresh.

Both my boys were c section, the women I know that had csections kids experience allergies, and other impacts as well. c section vs vaginal is a key link with autism. I love that you promote natural remedies and alternatives here on youtube, not too many youtubers have gone the natural route and I appreciate watching someone that I can relate to, that is also on the same page when it comes to taking care of ourselves and our bodies.
    Have you considered trying the sea sponge (used for replacing tampons?) I haven't heard much about this but it interests me and I thought you might like that option too.
    Also, the molasses is high in iron, so it is especially good to take while you are losing blood on your period.

      In all honesty when it comes to organic tampons they do not hold the same amount for me however I do notice that my menstrual cycle is tremendously shorter when I use Tampax Playtex or the typical brands my menstrual cycle last 7 Days sometimes I'm even still spotting or my discharge is weird looking on the 8th day however when I started using a brand called Organics for tampons my menstrual cycle lasts for days tops I do have to change those tampons every 4 hours I could probably get away with 6 hours but it's like I start to feel the moisture but I don't really mind that when I know it's because hey it's regular cotton and not rayon and bleach

      They do not hold the same amount as the conventional ones because the conventional ones have chemicals that will make it absorb a lot more. You will have to change them more often. The natural tampons also sometimes don't work as well as the conventional because they don't have the chemicals to soak up the blood really well and sometimes it won't soak anything up it if it's not a heavy day. Seventh gen tampons don't work so well. I recommend any other brand. I also recommend the diva cup. It has a learning curve though. Hope it helps.

    I use the Lunette cup and it is the best thing for my period! For those who are afraid of inserting it, I was doubtful and nervous too. However, once it's in, you DO NOT FEEL ANYTHING. I assure you it's something that you'll get used to. I grew up using pads, and being able to run around naked during my period now is SO freeing! Swimming, surfing, bikini, work all day don't even have to worry about it, sometimes I even forget that I'm having my period! Please, give it a go. I share this with everyone cause I feel all girls should start using this.

      I've been doing it for 17 years. I've only had two children, and both were when I was not doing it. lol. It can be tricky though. I have an extremely normal cycle. Some people ovulate at odd times. My best friend ovulates while on or near her period, so it would not work so well for someone like that. You need a highly regular cycle. Often times people don't know when they ovulate until after they've had children.

    I love this so much! Thank you Alba for being such a great source for natural options for women! I love that you advocate for alternative options without saying what's right or wrong it's just your opinion. Living a natural life is such a rabbits hole but I believe anything you can change is a great step. I love your commitment to this lifestyle. You give such a great scope of options and brands. Stick with the Diva Cup if you like it. It has taken me a while to get used to and make work for me. I watched many lengthy RUclips videos about it. I'm so happy a large Channel like yourself is talking about these subjects. It made me upset to think that companies do not have to disclose ingredients in their feminine products. It makes me upset that these options are not as accessible to women and young women. I found my Diva Cup at Wal-Mart and I did a little jump for joy for that one. I would encourage any woman interested to try it it's not as difficult as it seems. Trust me I work long hours in a fast paced business and I have managed with it. You are a great advocate Alba! Chevy Brown may I give my opinion? I feel that vaccinating your children is important because it is a PUBLIC health issue!!! Because of vaccinations we have pretty much eradicated deadly diseases such as mumps and smallpox. Imagine if a child caught a deadly disease due to not being vaccinated and spread that disease to other children's and soon to the whole town. But that's worse case scenario I suppose and who am I to tell you how to raise your own kids, right? Thank you for your time :)

    • @jessicag.1845
      @jessicag.1845 7 лет назад +4

      Sana Ito no, you were on the right track and it's not the "worst case" scenerio; it's the completely possible scenario. Just look at the Somali community in Wisconsin or Minnesota that had a huge outbreak of measles because some ex-scientist quack told them lies about "the harm" of vaccines. This isn't just a parenting issue; it's a public health issue because if you don't vaccinate your child, you're not just risking your child's health but you're risking every child's health.

My cramps were never truly that much better while I was on it anyways. Not sure if you figured out your cup issue, but I had a similar problem. What helps me is inserting within the shower with a water based lubricant. Then I take my finger to the base of the cup and do some kegals while pushing the base to help ensure the cup is snug and suctions properly. I always use a natural pantyliner as well because it catches the very little blood that leaks out (I think it is the blood that is around the cup when I inserted not, not leakage)

      Anaiah-Zaccai Wilson Oh ok. Thank so much. I have endometriosis, and I have seen research that said it could help but I've also heard the negatives of it (mostly from doctors). That was one of the reasons that I was interested in it.

    For the diva cup... Don't forget to turn it full circle to seal. You can turn it half way inserted or after it is inserted completely.

    I've been thinking about the diva cup for a while now and I've purchased my first one. However for some reason I have some weird anxiety in using it. I'm really starting to take my health journey (as in food and all intake) seriously and one thing I've found with periods is that a few days before you start really scale back and processed foods, sugar and increase veg and water it helps with cramping too.
    Great video hun xx
