THIS IS WHEN RAP WAS FUN. JUST SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU WANT TO DANCE.
I think this was 80 or 81 my mom still goes crazy when this song comes on I think Kurtis Blow was the first rapper to have a gold album.
Can we see this now being ahead if it released today yes or no I can’t blow will be godfather today or not at all
I'm 60 and I still lose it for Kurtis blow.
Love the sound that early hip hop artist like Kurtis Blow and others incorporated by using the timbales and congas into their jams. Talented artist whose work will withstand the test of time.
The first solo rap star! It was all groups back then! Interestingly Blondie had a rap hit in 1980 with Rapture 🔥🔥🔥
This is when rap was good clean fun. Kurtis Blow is definitely a trailblazer and legendary. Love it.❤️
First rapper to score a recording contract with a major record company.
Few songs back then had musicians played on rap songs. Most hip hop is sampled but kurtis blow had people played instruments. Like whodini, treachorous 3 so many he was one of the originals of storytelling. Even Nas even took the song kurtis blow "If i ruled the world".
Yeah one of the 1st hip hop records, about a year after Rappers Delight in 79. Check out the Message by Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5 from 1982 for the next level of early hip hop classics.
He did The Message already.
@@yescarycan oh ok cool, my bad.
I love the clever double meaning of this song, he's talking about the breaks in life and the breakdowns in this song......CLEVA !!!
Wow! This came out in 1980 my first year in Jr. High School. This song still rocks the house!
1982 in the building right here
The positive or fun story telling was what I most liked about old school rap, exemplified by this, "Self Destruction" by The Stop The Violence Movement, "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 (which you already reviewed), "Children's Story' by Slick Rick, "Love's Gonna Get Ya" by KRS1," and, on the fun tip, "I Got A Man" by Positive K, "Your Mom's In My Business' by K Solo and "Rappin' and Rockin' The House" by The Funky 4 + One More, "For the record, the percussion solos at 2:16 and 5:53 are samples of Jimmy Castor's "E Man Boogie." You MUST explore Jimmy Castor, especially "It's Just Begun", "Potential", "Party Life", "A Groove Will Make You Move", "The First Time I Saw Your Face"
1st Rap Song I ever heard in my life ... Memories playing in a friend yard & hearing this on the radio ... And Loving It ...
Respect to the pioneer!
When rap was fun and not glorifying thug life. Even my parents and grandparents were partying off this rap back then.
We partied to this music in the 80’s
One of the first hip hop songs dropped on record...good memories right here as a kid growing up and hearing this song at The Boys & Girls club being blasted from boom boxes while playing basketball, shooting pool, playing Foosball.
Yooooooo!!!!!! 5th grade!!!!😆😎 King Kurtis!!! Block parties!!!! HUUUUUGE speakers in the park!
When to same high school. Actually a smart dude! He was in on the beginning, jammin at shows in the Bronx. I didn't even remember myself that this featured so much instrumental jammin.
Okayyy.....logical progression! Check out Sucker MC’s from Run DMC from 1984! Game changer! Cold lyrics and incredibly minimalistic beats! 🔥🔥🔥
The Godfather of rap
This was a block party staple in the early to mid-80s. The instrumentation is incredible!
It was about being happy and joyful. Life
Is hard but you have life to live, 😁
What wild this song of the 80' still fits in 2020 change ma bell to today phone provider this song is current. That why the breaks, Grand Master Flash - The Message, Whodini - Friends & Slick Rick - Children's story will always will be the best of story telling in hip hop cause it fit in todays world. I had that 12" but gave it to my sister thinking i could get another copy nope was sold out at that time limit copies. when i had it i was the man cause i had it.
This Song is LITERALLY 40 years old!!! Hip Hop has been going strong since about 1973 DAYUUUUM!!!! In three years it will be 50. Let that sink in.....
Black Rock and Roll from the 1950s didn’t last that long.....
Insane!!
Wow! Bringing back great memories from my childhood! I still have this record, but I haven't heard it in years. If you haven't heard Sugarhill Gang -Rappers Delight, you should check it out. Thanks 😊
At the block party with roller skates on...
Hip-Hop Education right here
One of the first actual rap record you could buy.. one if the Godfathers
That's deep.
In my opinion: First Wave of Hip-hop (1979 - 82). After 83 came Def Jam and the 2nd wave.
Theeese are the breaks! 😎👍🏾
Kurtis blow is the real king of rap. Young people don't get it twisted
Christmas Rappin’!
Kurtis Blow has a lot of very good songs too
Piano sick in this song
Basketball is another hit.
The very beginings of hip hop....good choice.....i hope you do some Sylvia Robinson music....she is the mother of hip hop and introduced the world to rap by putting out artist such as Kurtis, Sugarhill Gang , other rap artist of the day....Sylvia Robinson's music was so different from rap so thats why she is so special....she had a no 1 song called "Pillow Talk" that white radio banned...lol....it went to no. 1 and fell off for a few weeks and went back to no.1
Sylvia Robinson ripped her rap/hip hop artists off big time...
@@IceManLikeGervin ...Don't know about that however she introduced the world to hiphop....you have to remember this was a new genre done mostly by teens....not saying it was right but of course artists being young and dumb are gonna get ripped off...hell the biggest black company Motown ripped off most of their early artist....that doesnt take away from the HISTORIC music they gave to the world....Berry Gordy will always be known for his Motown company as will Sylvia Robinson be known for introducing the world to hiphop...btw....i mentioned Sylvia's no 1 song from the 70s "Pillow Talk".... can you believe she had a no 1 hit in 1958 as part of a duo called Mickey & Sylvia....the song was called " Love Is Strange"....i listened to it and it is MIND BLOWING for that era
@@TheFargo116 She ran Sugarhill Records like Motown's
Always liked this song!
