- A change from the BMW content on this channel. I don't know anything about Reliant Robins, so join me in this video as I figure out what I'm looking at.
My Grandparents used to have one back in the 90s but I was too young to remember it. It's such a quirky vehicle and very simple which makes it satisfying to work on!
I want to drive it around the local mountains which will be terrifying enough but being 6ft 7 and hitting the wiper stalk and horn with my knees when I shut the door makes it a little more interesting! That will be in the next video about the Robin.
Thanks for watching!
It really grates on me to hear people on TV who should know better, call this car a "Robin Reliant" - like calling a Ford Escort an "Escort Ford"!
I work at RR Goodwood, getting a Reliant Kitten next week, can't wait to park up in the works car park and give a imaginary middle finger.
I've always fancied one of these.. However, I don't know why!!!
The heat control is being used as a choke pull. All a choke does is add more fuel to the air/fuel mixture to help a cold engine run. When the engine is warm, you push the choke back in or you will coke the plugs. The thing you called the plugs is actually a distributor and that using a rotary arm controls the firing sequence of the engine. (No electronics here.) The engine sounds like it's misfiring or 1 plug/cylinder not working.
Thankyou very much for this information! I thought maybe the engine was down 1 cyl but wasn't sure. So I probably don't need too alter the choke setup unless I want a heater
Not quite - the choke does what it days on the tin - it's a butterfly valve reducing air intake, so enriching the mixture. Less air, same fuel, richer mixture.
Man, driving a Robin on un-paved roads with the hump in the middle must be terrifying!!!
I'm about to find out!
Sounds like the exhaust is still blowing- manifold gaskets worth doing next. Cooling system needs to be tip-top on these and if you fit new tyres, apparently you fit a top quality one up front, but the rears can be lesser quality.
Thats interesting thanks!
@@BaldTyres Maybe check out the Hubnut videos on Foxanne- same engine so will possibly help you with your project?
Less chance of a puncture, wise decision cut backs and all that !
Can't wait to see what you do with it! I'm sure someone will suggest turning it into a Space Shuttle...
Back in the '70s my best friend's Dad had a yellow Robin. Once had a trip in it - amazingly two adults and 3 kids managed to fit in. I always thought it was a bit of a cheapo bucket, but didn't realize that they were actually damned expensive (best to think of a Robin as a Lotus in a bad clothes and try to feel good about how much you paid for how how little you got).
Your choke has a heater knob on it - someone removed the heater knob to bypass it (its best always on anyway) the heater knob was in the left hand hole. good luck getting it running I just brought myself a bn1 and am hopefully about two weeks to be back on the road. The gear stick has been put in the wrong way which is why it looks bent. I am 6 4 and a tiny bit of adjusting the back rail worked for me you would be better moving the seat and maybe lowering it if you can be arsed adapt the mounts.
Yea you need to change the rocker cover gasket
Someone has used the heater cable for the choke, so you are missing the heater control
You are meant to cover the exhaust gasket in paste to seal it's still leaking...get yourself two 5/16 unf nuts for it too
The car is running awful, sounds like about 3 cylinders maybe, which is why it tries to constantly cut out, reliant 850 engines are very smooth
Your paint is knackered as it's been stood out in the sun 20 years and it's burnt the lacquer off, happens to most classics
Restore it to factory condition (or preferably, better!). They're very rare, only around 250 left I believe.
It weighs 436kg on its own. Half a ton with you in it.
At least you'll hit 25% less potholes.
My father had a Panther 650cc motorcycle combination with luxury sidecar sunroof 😅🤸😅🤸
Jeezo, can’t get much further apart from your Beemer’s, can you?? Good luck!!
Headlights look like they come from a Corsa B.
Good spot! They did come from a Corsa
At least the bodywork isn't showing any signs of rust ! 😅🤸😅🤸😅🤸😅🤸😅
Haha cute car
All you need now is some inflatable dolls and an oversized camel hair coat
For what is a simple car they always look to be years older than what they are & completely worn out. Mainly due to being really badly manufactured. Even late models look bad. They make a Trabant look well built! Shame because they do represent an era no thrills utilitarian motoring.
They stopped production over 22 years ago what do you expect, any car well used after that age can look in bad shape
Why did you get rid of your other channel and are you gonna reupload the idiot series
Unfortunately RUclips seems to think I'm not the owner of my videos and I've re-used other peoples content despite appealing they say I only have permission to use my videos, the whole channel not just one or two videos. Didn't like the sound of that. Also the never ending copyright claims and people trying to take down the videos because they've been caught out. The channels content has been hidden, not deleted. It is a great shame because I spent most of my life between 2013-2019 building up the channel but it's the easiest way for me to move on.
