Quitting added sugars was something I did accidentally. I follow an OMAD diet plan, and when you can't snack, you've already cut out the large majority of sources of added sugars. Then as long as you make the bases of your sauces from scratch when cooking for your daily meal, you're avoiding any added sugars that may be present in pre-made jars of sauces etc.
You can argue making everything from scratch sounds like a lot of time and effort, but when you factor in the time you are saving because you are not making/eating breakfast and lunch you haven't really lost any time in your day, you're just eating better.

The way you are raised does make a huge difference. My parents rarely would give us any chocolate or candies and I remember spending a whole year to eat my Easter chocolate egg (it is a thing in Brazil and most people finish theirs in a few days). After I grew up and started to befriend with people who seriously like sugary things, it all went downhill, I would go insane if I didn't eat a chocolate per day. As you can imagine, my health got really bad and I only found some motivation to stop this madness and try to regain some control a few years ago. Now I only eat sugary things when I really WANT it and not out of desperation 🙌 Well I guess better late than never 😅

As someone who hasn't had added sugar for more than a year, things that I noticed that there was like this huge drop of energy for the first 3/4 days. Weirdly I never craved it.
One spectacular thing though, it made me appreciate the natural sweetness of whole foods. Fruits taste much better now, I could not even wrap my head around the fact that I had not been getting the full experience for this long.

The last time I ate something sweet was around 4 months ago, and now my skin looks better, I'm in better shape but it's still hard especially in special occasions. ive not eaten processed cane sugar for around 7 or 8 months now at the age of 15, and its not easy... but i feel so much more energised and motivated than i ever have. something i have noticed is although i still eat things like honey, date syrup, maple syrup etc. as an alternative there are not at all addictive and although they satisfy sweet cravings, but as do fruits and lots of vegetables, they dont satisfy the occasional sugar craving that i have. but overall im so glad ive done this and now for the first christmas in a couple months time since ive started this is going to be a big challenge but im determined to stick to it

if you want to quit sugar you would also not be able to eat fruits, which is a bit misguided, but the most important thing anyone can do is to avoid added sugar, which is where they just dump processed sugar into any kind of food to hook you to it.

I actually quitted eating suger and dairy for 127 days, it really busted my protein intake and vegetable intake, i also didn't eat or drink suger free cola or xl or gum. Also drank 3 liters a day and did cold shower every day, without warm showers and trained a lot. In the last month i made it a lot harder, i stopped eating carbs, drank one gallon of water, i basically ate only vegetables and proteins, after i stopped my suger tolerance was very low. It was hard, you dont have to do it to be in a good shape, but after that i was in the best shape of my life, another bonus, my muscles was not sore.

My strategy has always been one I’ve never heard before which is add something sweet to every meal. Mostly a little fruit. I almost never have sugar cravings because I’m always feeding my sweet tooth. And I’ve maintained a fairly lean body for many years. And that’s at 41 years old. Also I only do a few cheat meals a month and I aim for as many one ingredient foods as possible. (Sweet potatoes, avocados, steak, etc.) Makes it a lot easier because I don’t necessarily have to track my calories to a t. If I do bread it’s organic seeded grain and so on.

Hello 👋. I did this about a year ago for about 2 months, and found that while not eating sugar, my entire appetite diminished and I started eating less even though I was trying to gain weight. I wouldn't recommend, just stick to a healthy balance and try to also not substitute sugary drinks with the sugar free versions because they just lead to bad habits. 60g sugar daily is about what you should be maximum. Stay health people!

I remember having noodles everyday in the morning, then I started having ice cream and nutella with bread as a snack every day, then Mcdonalds every day. I also never worked out. But then, I decided to change and started to eat healthier, I enjoyed doing this and I also started working out at 13, I just turned 15 now. And I rarely eat sugars. I don't crave it but I think that everyone needs at least a bit of sugar in their bodies.

It's been like 6 years for me. There is no such thing as quitting sugar, it's in your blood at all times. You only stop using processed sugar and glucose syrup. I also stopped using the weird stuff that they put in almost all products. I did try some no sugar snacks with steviol glycoside but I quickly realised eating sugar would be better. It causes nausea and depression for me. I couldn't commit 100 percent and had to eat some fast food like pizza, burgers (buns contain sugar), etc. on certain occasions, this shouldn't be more than 10 times a year though.
The only difference I felt so far has been tooth health, which is only natural since the bacteria don't get access to excess amounts of sugar and you probably could keep all your teeth for the rest of your life even if you didn't brush.
Never felt any difference in regard to energy level. Spaghetti, rice, and wheat contain high amounts of carbs and sugar anyway. I'm not routinely practicing, only playing football from time to time. Lately, the frequency of this activity is reduced but when I first started doing this I was playing football matches 2-3 times a week. I don't recall noticing any enhancement back then.
One thing that is challenging is shopping, when you don't use sugar and the crap I mentioned, your options in grocery stores are very limited. Most shelves are entirely closed off and some contain only a few things you can buy. Due to this, my diet became kind of fixated. Meat, cheese, eggs, milk, yogurt, nuts, fruits, raw vegetables, oatmeal, spaghetti, rice, peanut butter with no sugar, etc., I have been mainly eating the same things for the past 6 years. This is my problem though, with a bit more effort I could add a lot more. I just don't have time to cook so I don't eat anything that is time consuming. Apart from steviol glycoside I never had any sweets.
All in all, I think I'm eligible to comment on this matter. If you're planning to do this don't expect any short term benefits and even the long term benefits I don't think you will be able to catch. There are probably a ton of things that are better with me but I didn't feel any apparent improvement. Doing this for 30 days only, you can't expect anything other than a placebo.
I don't even remember why I started, but I just keep doing it. I don't feel that I'm missing out on a lot, fruits are a good replacement for snacks. I do miss a good cacao sweet with actual sugar from time to time, but no big deal, I can live with that.
Oh, one last thing, freezing some fruits turns them into ice cream, almost. Thinking about it, I might have forgotten how ice cream tastes like, lol, that is also entirely possible.

Even with the high fat foods that i eat i still managed to lose 60-65 lbs by cutting out sugar (mostly) i may eat 1 or 2 cookies or have 1 or 2 small rootbeer per month. I have much more energy than i did 2 years ago when all i did was eat candy, hohos, and drink cases and 2L every day. And while im still 270lbs that is FAR better than 330 my feet dont hurt just from walking i no longer get winded just walking some stairs even my mood has changed im less "bitchy" than what i was and a LOT happier.

I haven’t had a single gram of sugar for over a year, due to Candida. The first 2 - 3 months was absolutely awful. I never had energy and never felt like I ate enough even when my stomach was about to explode.
I lost a lot of weight, but then I started to get better, get use to the diet and started working out. Im actually even heavier then I was before I went sugar free. But not fat-just strength. Also I can’t have any milk, so no weight gain from that either.

@@honeyb3384 It is actually very much sugar. Wheat consists mainly of starch which is just packed glucose. Like how the liver turns glucose into glycogen, plants pack them as starch. Before the modern era, sugar was not present in abundance. The main source of sugar for sweets was honey and fruits. So, our ancestors survived mainly on wheat, rice. Potato too, after the discovery of America. All of these contain very high amounts of starch. Fruits on the other hand contain fructose. As far as I know, the worst kind of sugar is fructose, which is stored as fat in the liver. The human body is not well equipped to handle it. The problem with processed sugar is also that, sucrose consists of 50% fructose and 50% glucose. Eating too many fruits can cause liver fat too but it is not pure sugar like sucrose.
Edit: Oh wait, you didn't eat wheat either? No wonder you were low in energy. I assume you just ate a lot of meat?

Reducing sugar is a better goal than sugar-free. More sustainable.
