United might be fully aware that Branthwaite will be priced out of a move this summer. They might be submitting one or two bids in the region of 35-50M early on, anticipating Everton to reject those bids. And then do what they have said they would do, walk away and not pay "extortionate fees", just to showcase that they are willing to play hardball. That might make it easier for them to avoid the "United tax" later on in the window when they put in a bid for a RCB, which should be a higher priority anyways.

United fans here who haven’t watched Branthwaite chatting utter wham. He’s easily worth £70m. I wouldn’t want to sell him at all if it weren’t for the dire financial situation. Much rather we got rid of Onana and kept Branthwaite. Considering we were bottom half he was a big part of why we had the fourth best defense in the league last year. He’s 6’5”, completely two footed and reads the game like a veteran. He’s better than Stones was when he played for us and we got £50m for him about 8 years ago. Easily worth £70m.

every game I've watched of Braithwate he is getting destroyed. The Man City game where Haaland bullied him. The game against Chelsea where Cole Palmer nutmegged him, Braithwaite ends up on the floor, gets up and doesn't get back and Chelsea scored. He got dribbled past twice and gave away possession 5 times. Never seen Martinez do that.
Newcastle game, he gets back and goes to ground too eagerly and Isak runs past him. There are times he doesn't defend his near post and Newcastle scored but it got ruled out because of VAR. It was a close offside but Jarrad didn't know, so why isn't he blocking the cross. Then he doesn't check his shoulder to see an attacker getting into the box and they got a shot. Lucky for him, his teammate was there to clear it.
Brentford game, he goes in too eagerly on a striker and with one pass Brentford are through, they create a chance and lucky for Jarrad, they missed.
If he makes these mistakes for Evertonz it's fine he is young, but he makes these mistakes playing for Manchester United, he will be compared to Maguire. It's the same mistakes that Maguire makes and he gets crucified for it, they will destroy this kid. 70 million and you struggle with the basics of the game. "Waste of money" "70 million down the drain" especially with the way the English media seems to destroy any Manchester United player as soon as they get the chance.

    • @seanfitz70

@@sanele4780 Those are literally the only mistakes he made this season. I’m not going to suggest he couldn’t do better there, but there’s a reason Everton fans are this bullish about his ability. Don’t patronise us saying “it’s fine for him to make those mistakes at Everton”. You’d be lucky to have someone of his calibre given you finished 8th last season and we conceded fewer goals than you.
There’s an arrogance from fans that support big 6 clubs that everyone else is completely sick of. The second you don’t get a player outside of that clique for a cut-price there’s all this hand-wringing about their ability.
He’s a future England regular. £70m and he’s yours. There are other clubs who will pay.

@@seanfitz70 I'm not patronizing when I say "it's fine for him to make those mistakes at Everton". Casemiro made mistakes this season and got told its time to go to Saudi. They are ignoring the fact he just came back from injury and is being played out of position. Braithwaite cannot afford to make a mistake playing for United because when United win or lose, it is going to be bigger news. That is the truth, unfortunately.

You don't pay more than 45M for potential at CB and he will need to improve as his not good enough yet. Patrick thinks there will be a bidding war but in reality there are only a handful of clubs in Europe that would pay more than 50M for a CB and only 1-2 that would spend that on a 21 year old. He better hope Real doesn't want him as they won't pay big money. They will offer 40 max and if you don't accept it's proven the player will either just go on strike, say they won't sign for anyone else or run their contract down and leave on a free. Comparing Branthwaite with Maguire who was far older, had years in the EPL and played well at international tournaments with england is disingenuous. Gvardiol also played CL football, international tournaments and had seasons of top level form. If Jarod was french he would cost 35M, he isn't on the level of Yoro who is a better player and is only 18. Let's stop doubling the price of anyone who is english that plays in the EPL, 70-80M is a wild valuation.

Younger players are getting more game time at an early age. Partially because of the economics of modern football and the sheer number of games being played (injuries to senior plyers and opportunities to play). So, you can get yourself a 20-year-old (even a teenager) with 2/3 years of experience in a top league. E.g. some Brazilian have already played over 100 games for a club before moving to Europe before there 20th birthday
