    thanks for hitting that record button even though you were feeling like death. Working when sick is terrible, working while sick and then keeping content coming for all your subscribers, that says a lot about you. probably why so many people have stuck with ya for all these years. hope you're feeling better and back on the mend now.

      I'm thinking that Chris might have been an early candidate for Covid? It was about the right time frame and from Chris' own words he said "That's the first time in my life I've been home for 3 days sick"? But it's also a good thing in a way if it was Covid and he recovered on his own. Now he's got antibodies against it.

    I remember watching you work this job and feeling bad for you as I was just coming off of being sick for 2-3 weeks. Went to Doc and they diagnosed me with sinus infection because I tested negative for 2 strains of flu. Then the coronavirus pandemic hit. I think
    i had that darn infection before it was known about.

    That's about the time I had a monster bug that wasn't the flu. I had my shot last October. Flu test was negative. It was called a sever upper respiratory infection. Covid was just barely on the map. I think it was it due to the symptoms I had. No testing was available yet. Worked through most of it too. Stayed away from my buds at work. No one else got it. Wife had it two weeks before me. Same symptoms same diagnosis. I guess we were lucky.

    Chris your as good of operator I have seen certainly got me beat and I been on equipment all my life. That pond dredge job was one of toughest I have seen and you did it masterfully most would have buried the machine. I am glad your feeling better it is tough having to be out there when your that sick. But sometimes you just have to do it because no one else can and the job must be done. I am retired now but on occasion I still am called on to cut and remove dangerous trees that is endangering homes and buildings. Just because my experience enables me to do things no one else will touch.

    Seems like if it was allowed to dry some like it had in the second video (or wait til summer), especially with the fence gone, this might have been done without the long reach. Maybe they were under pressure from environmental and therefore justification for a premium charge for renting the long reach.

  • @tiredoldmechanic1791
    @tiredoldmechanic1791 4 года назад

    I don't like the way the equipment manufacturers make their pins these days. They are usually too small, only fastened on one side and often made out of too hard and brittle steel. We converted several, making them larger using 1144 stressproof steel. We had them made with a head on one end and threaded on the other so they hold everything together and shimmed everything up tight. The pins with a grease fitting are the most prone to breaking. We drilled the bushing area so it could be greased without going through the pin.

    I bet all that sludge can me mined for platinum and other precious metals. If you think about it, there is a lot of runoff from roads and that all runs into ponds like that. With the precious metals in catalytic converters, it's probably there. Maybe the best ponds to mine are ones next to a freeway.
    Whether it's economically feasible to mine dirt like that is another question.
