    I told my dad about Dr Barnard this summer and he’s been eating so well (almost vegan) ever since - lots of greens, beans, fresh fruit. He eliminated butter, meats, yet still uses dairy in his coffee.
    He just came back from seeing his doctor and his A1C levels are totally normal!!! I cannot thank you enjoy❤️

    After eating a whole food plant-based diet for several months and I go to like a family reunion and eat the traditional sweet potato pie with lots of butter and key lime pie I've gone home and felt horribly dizzy and sick to my stomach and actually went to the doctors. It resolved after 24 hours of eating very very cautiously.

      Oatmeal is actually a good source of protein. About 15% of its calories are from protein, which is higher than most grains. You can add soy milk, soy yogurt, or make it savory with tempeh bacon to up the protein even more AND get those good isoflavones that help your hormones!

    You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health.
    Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world.
    Fast food and sugary drinks are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity.
    Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly.
    Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices.
    Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly.
    Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer.
    Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game.
    A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility.
    Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun.
    Every city should be a bicycle city.

    Other drs who overcame major health problems say vegan diet is for the rich because one must monitor ones body to supplement deficiencies. I was a vegetarian in the eighties. At first felt great because I got rid of the junk food. Vit. B12 can't be found in plants. Maybe to keep healthy eat 7 Day Adventist food. That may be the best way. When I can't sleep I think about being asleep. That helps me fall asleep before I know it.

    For Sheree (headaches): I was in a low-fat, plant-based online cooking course group a few years ago. Many people seemed to have headaches when transitioning to a no-oil, whole-food plant-based diet, including me. I can speculate about why this might be (from my own experience, not hard data). I don't know if you are a habitual headache/migraine sufferer like I am but migraine sufferers tend to get an attack when they haven't eaten, or haven't eaten enough food. WFPBNO food is naturally lower in calories. I think the body perceives it as 'not enough food' at first, even if the fibre fills you up. I suspect that calorie deficit might be one reason why this way of eating kicks off a headache in the beginning. Secondly, if you drink caffeine regularly, both drinking it and not drinking it, or drinking less of it, can set you up for all sorts of headaches. Getting rid of it completely (but very gradually, so as not to kick off a withdrawal headache) can help a lot with all kinds of headaches and migraine. Thirdly, it could be some kind of detox, although I know that is a very vague term. Dr Joel Fuhrman has an interesting take on false hunger vs real hunger and the question of headaches, detox, etc. comes into it. It's either in 'Fast Food Genocide' or 'The End of Dieting'. Both books should be available through your local library or bookshop. I hope you feel better soon.

    • @kyl5005
      @kyl5005 3 года назад +1

      I completely agree with you Ive had the same experience. nowdays after having detoxed for many years I dont get those symptoms anymore and even when I dont eat enough calories I dont feel that way. I think they definitely were withdrawl/ detox symptoms. in fact when I eat junky, oily, salty processed foods I feel bad now.

    • @Equinox1.5
      @Equinox1.5 3 года назад

      @@kyl5005 Interesting that you have had a similar experience. I find that those detox headaches are much less frequent if I have completely quit all forms of caffeine before making dietary changes. For me, I think that is the biggest key. Then I can go to bed on an empty stomach if I want to and I wake up feeling fine. If I just change my diet without preparation, I get a vicious migraine.

    • @kyl5005
      @kyl5005 3 года назад +1

      @@Equinox1.5 at this point i have no detox symptoms because I've been on WFPB for a long time. so even if I have caffeine from time to time cuz I want to I dont feel that way anymore and also with food its very mild just temporary. I hope you get to that state soon. but I agree with you the migraines are linked to heavy caffeine withdrawal symptoms. I used to drink at least 2 full ventis filled with sugar and dairy. the symptoms went on for like a year as I was heavily relying on it for energy.

    • @Equinox1.5
      @Equinox1.5 3 года назад

      @@kyl5005 I hope I get to that stage, too. Thank you :-) When you're reliant on coffee or tea for energy it's so hard to quit but it's a self-perpetuating problem, isn't it? Quitting caffeine plus going WFPB seems to be the key to better energy. I've pretty much quit caffeine but haven't gone fully WFPB yet, although I am 70-80% of the way there. I used to drink a lot of coffee and strong tea. My headaches and migraines have diminished a lot since I weaned myself off those drinks as a daily habit but they increase in frequency and intensity if I have more caffeine than usual in painkillers, for example, or as a social thing (the latter is rare).

    • @kyl5005
      @kyl5005 3 года назад

      @@Equinox1.5 oh no.. i hope you wouldnt have to take meds either. I dont take any meds since I've learned theyre mostly toxic substances that only numb you or suppress symptoms. only use them when its unbearable. yeah. 100 % isnt the goal. it's doing the best we can with the given situation. I think you are doing well. :D interpreting our bodily signals is so important and being aware of it is not easy for most people! so its great that you are tuning in more and more. it will only get better :) it came to just enjoying a cup of coffee once in a while if I feel like it and I go right back to not wanting to for a while because I dont wanna go to the bathroom every 30 mins lol and feel like I'm using all the energy at once and getting tired the next. so now I naturally keep the balance pretty easily. thankfully we now have alot of caff-free teas to enjoy!

    When I buy B12 supplements, I look for one that is labeled vegan or I check the ingredients , because some supplements include lactose in their formulation.

    I'm not vegan but eat about 90 percent plant based whole foods, occasionally I eat fish, cheese and milk but its pretty sporadic, I am also over 30 days into the Zoe/Kings College London Big IF study and my sleep and bloating (IBS) have improved heaps (between 9-10 hour eating window which I will cut to 8 after the study) I haven't lost any weight as yet and just wondered if there was anything more I could do, as I am just outwith the BMI where I should be?

    By mistake I bought my B 12 5,000 instead of 500, when I went for my blood work my B12 was very high. My Dr advised me to cut way back on B12, not until I arrived home and looked at my B12 did I catch my mistake of buying the 5000

      No. Your body needs to rest, not digest. Eat during your shift, or after you get up from sleeping.

    As a late onset type 2 diabetic who has controlled /reversed this by moderately low carbohydrate diet/exercise, I sleep terribly. I wake 3am, have hot flashes, am tired but can’t get back to sleep. What do you suggest to eat to help this??? I can have a smaller portion of steel cut oats made with almond milk, cinnamon, Chia, ground flax seeds, and topped with pumpkin seeds for the magnesium (I get occasional bouts of AFIB) and a few berries or little chopped apple and it doesn’t impact my BG at breakfast. Should I have high protein at breakfast, chicken or fish with lots of veg at lunch and then try the porridge at dinner to help me sleep (checking my BG on waking?) I would appreciate any advice you could give me (I can only have goats milk in decaf coffee as I’m sensitive to the lactose in cows milk- don’t like almond milk in coffee but ok in other things).

      He said protein in the morning. I'd stick to that and not eat any protein rich foods at all the rest of the day. Switch to starches for afternoon and dinner.

      I’ve been watching a retired Pro Tien research doctor - to avoid muscle wasting as one ages, ideally one would have 40 to 50 g of protein, high quality protein meaning meat eggs milk fish, in the morning. And a second high-protein meal high-quality protein for the evening meal.
      Considering your situation, it would seem that you would have an early protein meal in the evening, maybe at 5 o’clock? And have a oatmeal dessert at 7 o’clock?… And the oatmeal would help you feel sleepy. I would then wait two or three hours before bedtime.
      By spacing your protein this way through the day, you will prevent losing muscles as you age.

    I don't know why, but I am the exception to the advice of low protein in the evening. I've tried a no/low protein meals at night, but I wake up with low blood sugar and the shakes. So, I have to have protein (like beans etc) -- and when I do I sleep so much better!
