These are always so easy to follow, thank you so much. And it's fun to realize my understanding of German isn't totally useless when reading the comments. Dad would be stoltz.
Looking good! What goes for bonsaï in general, goes perhaps quite stronger for Yews: you need to be patient... As you well know: Yews grow slowly, if not very slowly... This one is already looking very good, to my opinion. I think you did very well!
Some really good hints and tricks in this video! Jelle, I need some advice on my 5 big old yews I've been chopping back over the years in the ground east side of garage. This spring dug them up and got in big training pots in full sun now and they are doing ok. But I want to chop them way back and most of the folliage is on the top. How and when do I do this? I'm in Ohio. Thanks
I would probably do this in later winter, a few weeks before you expect bud-break. That way the tree is all geared towards growth and should -a few weeks later than normal- start pushing buds. Alternative, after the first push of growth has stabilized, mid-spring. This would allow for a push over summer.
Scary how a tree would affect you physically like this, yet you still work on it without gloves. I love the look of the Yew, but am somewhat nervous about getting one.
Yeah, I do not like gloves. It varies a lot from person to person. I asked in the club a year or so ago, and most people gave me a blank look, yet some other members also indicated they get dizzy from working yews.
In Indonesia, if you following our grandmaster bonsai artist Mr. Rudy Julianto or Bokop Art (his RUclips channel). Opening dimension of the bonsai is important for growth balance. So the sunlight can hit the lower branch. Because like he say: Understanding Nature Is The Best Approach to Make Bonsai..
What a majestic tree!
thx!
Nice work Jelle!
Thanks a lot! Such a shame we did not meet up in spring!
Hallo Jelle...

Thanks so much. And don't worry about the German. I also have no clue and just say "Nein danke" ;)
this is one nice bonsai mate :)
@@BenshobbyStuff thx!
Very instructional and informative. Always learn a tip or two from your videos. We like yews. But find them has been somewhat problematic. Thanks.
Thank you so much Jeff! Always good to see a frequent visitor :)

Yews are on a three year cycle. Roots, shoots, pause. But in the shoot years I find I get 1-2ft extension if I do not prune them!
Hello, if possible, share a video for energy balance in deciduous trees, this issue is especially important in trees with a cascade style.
Great suggestion! Will think about this over winter!

@@GrowingBonsai Thanks so much! That makes good sense
Cảm ơn bạn chia sẽ video rất hay ❤❤❤
You are very welcome! Do look around on the channel. Lots of content to explore!
Yeah man. Can you show me how I can make the tree produce coconuts? You seem to know all about trees
Sorry, I have no clue. As far as I know trees do not produce coconuts, only cocos palms do.
Oh yew!
No yew didn't!
You're basically allowing more light to reach the lower branches.
TRue. But also altering the hormonal balance in the tree, causing lower branches to pick up

@@GrowingBonsai It is strange Eh! Like poison ivy! Ficus sap too... Some people are affected, some are not!

of course. Without sun no growth. However, still you will see top-dominance.
