Hey Joe, it is probably because you have had GI issues like Dr. Berg said. Your body couldnt handle the keto and the carnivore diet feels better on your system. He said you should do carnivore diet for short term to heal your GI tract, but eventually you should go back to eating vegetables so you can get all the nutrients you need to thrive on.

I am 35 years old 5'7 and about 11 months or so ago I was 235 pounds. I have always had a stocky build but, the excess fat became very noticeable. I dove right into strict carnivore for a solid 3 months and the results were beyond my expectations. After the 3 months I allowed myself a cheat day once a month but, still was mindful of what I was eating. After another 2 months I added mushrooms and jalapeno (my two favorite "vegetables,") into the diet plan and shortly after blueberries. After a total of 8 months of the diet I was down to 168 and looking very lean. The thing about carnivore is, it was just so easy for me and I enjoyed all the benefits from it so I didn't feel like I was dieting and still don't. My sleep got better, blood pressure went down, I have high energy which I was lacking for... years, no anxiety, and my depression while comes and goes, is no where near what it used to be (I believe everyone has depression to some extent) I have never done keto but, If you read this comment and are questioning the keto/carnivore diet, it does work! at least for me it did. I would HIGHLY suggest simply cutting out sugar of any kind from your diet as a start. I had no idea how much sugar was affecting my life and now almost a year in, I have been sugar free the whole time and my blood work looks picture perfect! Every journey starts with the first step. Once you get rolling, nothing can stop you but yourself!

The reason why Americans feel so much better on carnivore is that most stuff Americans eat is complete junk. So when they switch to carnivore it unintendedly works a bit like a detox. Most things you buy in america are ultra processed sugars and refined carbs. People who move to for example Italy cant believe how much healthier even "fast foods" are here

If you watch the video above Judy provides a chart that shows everyone over 8 y/o need more than that. Be careful eating low fat, the body requires fat to operate properly. I eat high fat medium protein and am struggling to gain the weight I lost when I went carnivore. I've only been carnivore since Mother's Day, so just a couple weeks, but I am amazed by the changes! I have been battling digestive issues for several years and nothing really seemed to work. I poo-pood carnivore for a while because I could not imagine eating just meat, especially red meat. But after reading reviews of those living it especially in regards to digestive issues, I said, I gotta try this. My stomach has not been this quiet in years!!! No gas, bloating, heaviness in the abdominal area, no constipation or diarrhea, fatigue has totally lifted, sleeping incredibly well, not hungry hardly ever, no cravings, and I actually want water now!!! I swear, I HATED water and would rarely drink it unless it had to be in something like coffee or tea...now I love it!!! It tastes so good now! That has really blown my mind. I can tell I've lost weight but haven't weighed myself yet but I can just feel it in my body and see it. I would never have believed this was possible. I don't even miss veggies and fruit and I loved all of that. I eat burgers, steak (wagyu because I totally ruin anything else), chicken, salmon, eggs and mackeral (love it). Haven't done any organ meats really but I may. I don't know if I will add veggies and fruits back but I'll probably try down the road just to see, but I don't miss any of it. Cutting carbs worked well but this carnivore thing is simply amazing. So glad that I gave it a try and much easier for me than trying to eat 7-10 cups of veggies...ain't gonna happen. Not for everyone, no doubt, but it's good to have options like this. Dr. Berg is definitely a good doctor, but there is no one thing for everyone...the results that we are getting prove that.

Been intermittent fasting for over 2 years and feeling great with that. Carnivore is healing me more than keto or any other healthy diet I've tried. I have IBS for 29 years, and within my first two weeks on carnivore I have no more bloating, no more stomach pain, and my joints are hurting much less, as well as other improvements I'm seeing. I have more energy and I sleep better. I believe the carnivore diet is better for some, maybe not all, people. But our ancestors ate like this when meat was plentiful and maybe did a paleo type or keto type diet when meat was more scarce. I do throw in a big green salad a few times a week because I enjoy salad, but the majority diet is now eggs, bacon, butter, beef (mostly), chicken, and salmon. We actually do get a lot of nutrients from meats, because the animal ate the plants that had the nutrients in them, and the animal processed (broke down) those nutrients for us, making it even easier for us to absorb them, which is a big positive. Keto is good, but I've personally found carnivore better. Feel better over all.

Only if it's grass fed and wild caught - did the animal consume "good stuff".
90% of people can only afford and just are - eating grain fed meat and even fish (farmed).
Meat today, is not what it was. Period. So the way our ancestors are is null and void. The meat they hunted and the meat we buy is like comparing apples to oranges.
My breakfast today was a two egg omelette with half a red onion (raw) a clove of garlic (raw) all chopped and sprinkled on top before folding the egg. A sprinkle of turmeric. A handful of coriander (cilantro), half an avo with apple cider vinegar and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast for all the b vitamins naturally. Egg fried in a LITTLE butter.
A little bit of goodness from lots of things.
The only difference between "keto" and "carnivore" is that keto allows all the greens. Not much difference.
I aim for 45g of protein a day. That's 200g of meat in total. And if I'm not feeling for meat (it gets boring very fast) I may just eat avos / eggs and salad for a few days.
If I'm feeling lazy - and all there is is a tin or sardines - that may be all I eat in a day. We are not robots. Days differ.
I could very easily eat fish and shellfish and never get bored. But that would be dumb. Because fish and shelfish are full of heavy metals. Moderation. Again.
      Each to their own.
It's a waste of breath of a debate. 10 million carnivores swear by the carnivore way. 10 million vegans swear by the vegan way. 10 million pescatarians swear by their way. They ALL claim to feel better.
They are all speaking from experience.
As omnivores, we should eat as such. In my opinion.

Just wondering how do people let go of veggies (and fruit) when we could argue they are made by God, so how can they be bad for us? Just curious

    • @AvenueBCD
      @AvenueBCD Год назад +5

@@sasha857 That's a good question. However, the fruits and veggies God created in the beginning of creation were perfect, before mankind sinned. Afterward, as part of punishment, God told Adam and that mankind would now have to till the ground by the dust of their brow (hard work) to get the fields to yield food. In the garden fruit had grown on its own and was readily available to them before the fall of mankind and curse of creation because of sin. In the past several hundred years fruits and vegetables have been cultivated by humans to be bigger and to produce higher yield. In the past 100 years the purpose of this is mainly linked to profits. Big Food corps, big Ag, they make billions off us all. Fruit is now bigger and contains more sugar, and sugar is addicting, making us want more, and so we go back to buy more of these cultivated fruits. As veggies have also been cultivated to be bigger and yield more produce, thte plants have adapted to produce more toxins, which are harmful to the human microbiome, among other parts of the body. Many animals are able to handle these toxins as their GI systems are different from ours. Cows break down the plants and toxins, because they have four stomachs, which then makes their meat safe for us to eat. They break it down for us. God made their systems able to handle the plants so that we don't have to. There is a subtance in almonds, and other nuts and seeds, called amygdaline. It turns into cyanide in the small intestine of humans. For some it is more toxic at lower levels, which means not a lot of almonds need to be eaten to reach toxic levels of amygdaline. I hope this helps a bit.

I've been carnivore since 2015 and for me it's noticeably better than traditional keto. I overall love your videos but I had a few reactions to this one specifically. As for vitamin C, most all meat has some vitamin C, and chicken liver has a lot of vitamin C. When you stop eating plants/carbs you don't need nearly as much vitamin C so meat has more than you need. As for potassium, bacon has 170% more potassium than bananas, so potassium is definitely not lacking on a carnivore diet. Also grass fed meat contains phytonutrients, so that also isn't lacking on carnivore. As for high protein vs fat, it's very easy to make carnivore high fat moderate protein. Pork belly, for instance, has 53 grams of fat and only 9 grams of protein per 100 gram serving.

Dr Bergs comment that he thinks a wider variety of nutrients with vegetables seems better and that just seems sort of - the thing speaks for itself. Also his comment it might be good for some people for show periods for specific Reasons seems reasonable. Your comment that you have been on it since 2015 is amazing. i just bought a whole bunch of meat but , i am not sure. Dr Lustig says , maybe the Heme in red meat is oxidizing and the is the problem. I started at 401.6lbs in Dec 2017 and as of this morning Aug 11, 2018 I'm 268.4lbs and still going. I've set a goal of 200lbs by Xmas 2018 and have every intention of getting there. Carnivory works well and can help find the issues of gut health that a wide swath of foods will prevent. An elimination diet based in carnivory with added foods as you confirm your tolerance will only help over time.
Also, studies are showing that vit C is really only needed by the body to assist in digestion of fibrous foods and in red meats the vit C content is more than adequate on it's own without the need for supplementation.

Carnivore diet really improved my health. I don't have to eat large quantities of proteins because i do OMAD.
The problem i had on Keto was mixing vegetables and animal proteins. When i eat either of those independently, i am fine.
But when i mix them, i gradually get bloating and serious inflammation with time and also with high levels of insulin and low energy.
It seems that some people microbiome lacks the flexibility to digest both groups of food simultaneously.

You might like a book called Fit For Life, there's 2 books, Fit for Life 1& Fit for Life 2. It talks a lot about food combining, and how eating certain foods away from other foods puts less stress on the digestive tract. Eg it says to eat fruits on their own away from all other foods, as breaking down fruit sugars is a completely different process to breaking down the proteins in meat. When I followed their eating suggestions (they're very loose suggestions) I felt the healthiest I have ever been in my life. I left out grains as I don't like the gluten in most grains (it makes me feel phlegmy, can't be good for me if it does that). It was written in the days before Keto and Carnivore became the new trend. Raw food for their live enzymes to heal the gut.
I remember back in the day they were very cheap books and easy to read. You can either eat meat with it or go vegan and leave it out. Up to you. But I never had any GI issues when I ate fruit the way they taught. Food for thought.
PS. There's a very interesting chapter in book 2 on sunlight and regular sunbaking which I've never forgotten. About melanin receptor cells taking 3 days to open/close as they adjust to the level of incoming light/uv, explaining why you absolutely will fry your skin with UV rays if you sunbake once a week as opposed to regularly everyday. It's fascinating, that chapter. Worth the price of the whole book.

My joints were killing me, chronic digestive disorders, allergies, asthma and horrible skin.
ALL of those issues are now gone.
We don’t need vegetation. Plant life is naturally full of chemicals that are toxic. Also, plants don’t contain actual vitamins as we’ve been led to believe. Plants have precursors to vitamins.

  • @KalliBella1

Though I think and know, personally, that keto is great, I experienced no relief of serious and persistent digestive issues on keto. I did keto plus IF and in 9 months I lost 43 pounds. But my gut was not better off. I've been on the carnivore diet for more than 8 weeks, a relatively short amount of time compared to how long I did keto/IF, but the results are impressive! I have come to understand that for me and my personal issues with my gut the carnivore diet is the most healing and makes the most sense.
I did have a bit of an intellectual hurdle to overcome: I kept comparing it to keto. I kept thinking about the level of ketosis at any given moment. But quickly realized carnivory is not keto. It's not supposed to be keto or comparable to keto. I found that keto makes one think of ketones almost all the time. That insulin levels are to be controlled at all times. And though ketosis does promote that kind of thinking and hence eating, carnivory is the most liberating thing because ketones bodies are not the driving thought, but rather healing is. I have lost weight on carnivory, but have also added muscle mass. I am stronger.
While doing keto I took a probiotic recommended my my doctor everyday. I expected it to help with the issue of the so-called microbiome. I ate all kinds of veggies. Stayed away from all industrial foods and followed keto/IF closely. I did get great weight loss results, but I wouldn't say it healed beyond that. So, though metabolically keto was great, the presence of plants interfered with the healing of my gut.
I recommend keto to anyone who wants to improve metabolic issues, like glucose, A1C tests, lipids etc, but for persistent issues I'd say give carnivory a try. The results are impressive.
My doctor who is a keto doctor, recommended I stay on carnivory indefinitely. The lab tests prove I am lacking in nothing and hurting nothing. He is not concerned about Vitamin C or potassium at all. Also, my doctor said that an animal based diet will supply ALL the nutrients the body needs including micronutrients because some animals, especially ruminants, are very good at converting all the plant energy/nutrition for us and we eat it in their flesh products, minus the gut issues or any other issue. He recommends people eat their nutrients as opposed to taking supplements.
Also, doctor Berg mentioned Vitamin C and potassium, but I don't worry about them at all. In my research, I've heard/read that these nutrients balance themselves out and are met satisfactorily with the carnivore diet. There is Vitamin C in beef liver, pigs liver and even chicken liver. There is potassium in liver, too. I am convinced that what we consider the recommended amounts of nutrients are for the most part overestimated because they are based on a carb heavy eating style. So, the so called daily allowance for Vitamin C and Potassium might be overstated because these are affected in some way by the over consumption of carbs/SAD/factory foods and plant heavy diets.

I lost more weight on carnivory. I had come to a place where my body didn't want me to lose any more weight while on keto and even though I did IF, it fought me to stay where I was. But as soon as I switched to carnivory I lost 7 more pounds the first 4 weeks. The second four weeks were very different: I lost in size around my waist and other areas, but gained more muscles. So I weighted more but looked thinner! I am happy with that exchange, because as I age (58 now) I want to add more muscle. I like what doctor Ted Naiman says: "Muscle is the 'organ' of longevity." I do resistance training twice a week, and HIIT twice a week. I not only look thinner, but I am stronger!

Some other things to remember is to consume things like beef bone stock (for collagen, electrolytes, etc.), and to only eat lean meats sparingly, or with other fatty meats. I try to get everything grass-fed, including butter, milk, eggs (pasture raised), etc.
I started about a week ago and I feel like a new person. I'm glad I did my research and started out eating the full spectrum (beef liver, stock, etc.) at the beginning because I feel like that made a big difference in how quickly I was able to start feeling changes. The GI problems I had been struggling with and suffering from for almost a year are gone. Within 2 days, I could walk around all day without my knees hurting. No more bloating whatsoever. Love Dr. Berg, but this is the first weak video I’ve seen. Full disclosure, I’ve been carnivore for 27 days (and have seen amazing benefits) so one could argue bias, but I have 2 issues:
    1. “Phytonutrients” is simply the name for nutrients from plants. We get all the nutrients we need from animal products. Don’t get caught up in the fancy nomenclature. As well, look up the term “photochemicals”
    2. Vitamin C competes with glucose in the body. If you consume little to no carbs you need very little vitamin C. In some cultures, low vitamin C (read scurvy) was fixed with fresh meat.

While conventional research tells us that we need plants, cholesterol should be lowered at all costs, and we treat type 2 diabetes with carbs at every meal (reference the ADA who continently claims that it is an incurable disease), we are now leaning that there have been agendas that fuel this research. Correlation is not causation and it has made countless people sick or worse.

In a ribeye of 8 oz/ 227 g there is 660 g potassium. Vitamin C : Vitamin C’s role as a cofactor in hydroxylation reactions (transferring a hydroxl group to the amino acids lysine and proline), is what helps make the building blocks of collagen. I'm on carnivore and understand about vitamin C. However, what about vitamins E and K, which animal products lack where it's hard to get what is "recommended" for daily consumption. I've tried to research info about this but can't seem to find it. It appears that nuts and seeds provide tons of E but they are also inflammatory being high in omega 6 fatty acids and oxalates. The primary reason I'm on carnivore is for the anti-inflammatory benefits, which plants work against.

Keto doesn't really allow fruits. Dr Eric Berg has never said that you should eat fruits (you are allowed to have some moderate levels of berries tho). Let alone eat fruits for the purpose of getting enough potassium. Also they can deplete your level of nutrients in your body because of the presence of sugar (sugar is not something that we need to provide to our body, doesn't matter whether it's natural or refined). Fruits are high in fructose which is also bad for the body. Potassium is probably depleted in your body to a certain extent if you provide your body sugar (again even if it's natural).
But Dr. Berg allows vegetables, seeds and nuts like walnuts and brazilan nuts that give good amount of potassium.

Dr. Berg, the science behind the nutrients lost from not eating veggies on the Carnivore diet suggests because you're not eating carbs those nutrients lost are not essential! Certain nutrients become essential mainly because of our carb intake! Plus without the carbs from veggies insulin spikes are not raised to high levels from the meat consumed! People who go from Keto to all meat are finding themselves losing the additional weight after coming to a stall on Keto! You don't have to eat too much protein, using fat instead of carbs for energy. Most carnivores know when they have had enough protein as they feel comfortably satisfied. Other carnivore MDs say that higher protein intake is not hard on the kidney and liver as was once taught.
As far as vitamin C, carnivores only need nanograms of vitamin C compared to those eating carbohydrate. This is because the glut4 transporter that recognizes vitamin C and moves it into your cells is the same transporter that glucose uses to enter cells. The glucose out-competes the vitamin C.
As far as the nutrients in veg and fruit, there are also anti-nutrients, especially oxalates, phytates, and lectins. How do you know what nutrients are able to be absorbed from the veg? I can say that since I cut out veg the constipation, bloating, and gas issues are gone.

I think the whole "keep protein low" thing is misleading. My definition of a well balanced diet is simply getting your macro right.
Let's face it, we all agree that an egg is the perfect food as it has everything a mammal needs to be created, and if we break down the macros an egg works out at about 60% fat, 40% protein 0% carbs...
Now take a rib eye steak, it's about 60% fat, 40% protein and 0% carbs...
Do you see a pattern here peeps? Think about it...

An interesting observation when I was in Prague for three days - when you go to a restaurant there, the local dishes you find are heavily meat based. I ate twice a day, two course meal which consists of 80% fatty meat and 15% vegetables and 5% grain based (bread) and the portions are huge (almost to a point one can be satisfied with just eating a starter) I am a sucker for local food, so I tried as many local dishes as possible. I was worried that I might put on few kilos right after my trip. When I came home and checked my weight: to my amazement my weight was 0.5kg less than what I was before my trip. I accidentally discovered this carnivore diet and watching and reading people's opinions want me to try this diet (based on my three day eating A LOT OF MEAT)

I did meat and water for almost three years and wish now that I had stayed on it. I disliked the organ meats but I just ate them anyway and after a few weeks it was not so bad. I did worry about potassium so I used "Lite Salt". Eventually I added a salad to my meals "for variety" and that led to a long relapse. For me it was about cold turkey and complete abstinence from my drug of choice, carbohydrates. I'm accomplishing that now with Paleo/Keto and extended IF, but I think it was easier with the Carnivore Diet.

Since 1 month carnivore and I have never felt better. I do eat 3 Brazil nuts a day for selenium, which isn’t carnivore but who cares.
I drink lemon water and that brings me vitamin c.
Overall my hair isn’t falling, nails and skin looking good, a complete peace of mind and not any stress buying many ingredients for cooking.
After the second week i absolutely and ultimately felt no need for sugars or carbs. This is truly insane for me.
It is very relaxing 😌 one month in, went really really quickly.
I will go for the 60 days and see where it leads me. I want to lose body fat, so there is a long term journey. So far the carnivore brought me peace of mind, some small body composition changes. Now that I am fat adapted is time to hit the gym and fasting for fat loss.
Overall if anyone is curious about trying go for it! Check Dr Ken Berry video on how to get started.

I am a pharmacist on the carnivore diet and it has saved my life!!! I have a medical condition called aveolar hemorrhaging (my lungs bleed) and a genetic clotting disorder so I have had over 10 blood clots, so I have dealt with a lot. I am so much healthier than I was eating "normally", and I no longer even consider myself terminal. Also, it's just potassium, salt, and magnesium you need to supplement with, and in rare meat you DO get vitamin C from the vegetables the animal has eaten, so I thought I would let you know about that. I have eaten this way for over two years, and most symptoms I deal with now are related to the meds they gave me for years (like high dose steroids, yuck!), not my actual illness. I am so angry not one dr asked me how I ate, and even what they gave us in the hospital to eat. (wheat, carbs, etc.) My primary dr went from thinking I was crazy for trying this diet out to, six months later, being shocked at my improvement in health and telling me "to keep doing whatever I was doing." I am also very frustrated they didn't educate us better about good and health in pharmacy school, same in medical school I believe, and it hasn't improved at all. My daughter is a pharmacist and learned the same things about food when she was in pharmacy school. "the pyramid diet"

Simply worded: **Avoidance* (of horrid additives & horrid processing practices that is wildly common in today's food markets) is fast, simple and EASY (which is vital for people with "brain fog") I have since then learned how to eat well without effort (meats eggs & salads, mainly via Green Smoothies.) p.s. My health was seriously going downhill after menopause. And after retiring on a very small pension my diet was reduced to poverty food like beans and rice most days. I had so many aches and pains I thought, is this what the rest of my life is going to be like? I knew I had to make changes but it had to be something I could afford. So, in an effort to change the downward trajectory of my health, and quality of life, I decided to actively pursue information on improving my diet. I was following the high veg, low fat diet we all learned for most of my days. But, since then, I have learned so much more about nutrition and why my health was deteriorating. So, over the span of the last four years I went from vegetarian, to ovo lacto pescatarian, to Ketogenic, to Ketovore ,to full carnivore for the past 5 months. I lost 65lbs and look and feel great. All inflammation is gone. All blood tests normalized- except ldl. More energy, stronger, younger looking, no more pre-diabetic, no liver enzyme issues, no more brain fog, no more inflammation, and I’m near my goal weight. I eliminated vegetable induced bloat and the constipation I suffered with for a lifetime. It will be a great day when the data catches up to the benefits of low carb diets and doctors get educated on diet based remedies verses the pills Big Pharma bribes them to push on their patients. Good luck, my friends!

Nah, haven’t had any problems so far. I’m doing this for a year. Let you know next year. Been eating carnivore for nearly three weeks. I just allowed myself to eat when hungry which was eating two meals a day. I’m now, as of today down to omad. This transition happened with no hunger whatsoever. That has been very freeing. I have no body odour when I sweat and I can smell smells very acutely which is interesting! My energy is so much better and even all day. I don’t weigh myself and that is one of the reasons following this diet. The main reason though is to address my chronic indigestion. It was fine if I only ate Omad, but I would energy for only half a day. That’s a huge plus, having even energy on this diet. I’m no longer hangry or desperate to eat my one meal. At 72, my health is important because I do not trust the medical profession now with this covid nonsense and I’m in perpetual lockdown here in NewZealand at the moment, so I have to be healthy. Not too worried here on my farm where we raise our own cattle and sheep and have a huge area to ride over. Oh, that’s another thing. I was losing confidence in riding my horses, but I now feel a whole lot stronger and more confident , so riding is my exercise!

Been on Keto nearly one year, was great and lost a lot of weight, but I feel a bit weaker on it. I might try the carnivore diet and see how I feel. Plus I love meat

Digestion is my achilles heel. I had the best, easiest bowel movements of my life on the carnivore diet, which I did for about two weeks. I was not careful enough when I came off it, and now my digestive system is really wonky. I will likely go back to carnivore, making sure to include beef liver this time, and stick with small portions. And a couple of times a week, I might try adding fresh veg juice and/or cruciferous veg. One concern I have is that my pancreas and liver are weak, I think, so have to be careful not to overload with protein and animal fat. Tricky.

Boiled Eggs with Yolk and Lamb/Beef Liver are the Heathiest. They give you nearly 80% of micronutrients in few serves.
So have a bunch of soft boiled eggs and small portions of lamb/beef liver atleast 4-5 times a week.

I love Dr. Berg because six years later, his opinions about the carnivore diet have changed drastically and he is not afraid to admit it, and teach us about why, including his personal experiences and all the latest research that supports it. There are only a few practitioners on social media that have the integrity and humbleness to admit they might have been wrong, and actually help educate us to be the best we can be. God bless you Dr. Berg!!
