he’s been through so much. the people who blamed him for leaving one direction were stupid. i'm proud to see the man he became and proud to see that he managed to get on stage. i’m sure the best is coming for him. he is probably one of the best singer of our generation.

You are insultive. I blame still today cos he created a toxic scenario, very nassy. Very unprofessional. They had just a few months to fulfill their contract and he chose to torpedo everything to prove a point.
Belemo ogan so... not tryna be mean but what are your thoughts on his mental health being destroyed and him suffering an eating disorder while in the band? I understand that him leaving was really upsetting but he was suffering for YEARS would it have been better if he left in 2013/2014? also how did he create a "toxic" scenario? what point was he proving? the point that he deserves rest and happiness? the point he should be able to make decisions in his life? I guess my real question is: If you were in Zayns situation with his mental struggles what would u do?
@@debragray384 didnt reply immediately cos I wanted to be fair and not just come off as neurotic. Okay.... All the boys were hit hard by his action. They carried on for the sake of fans who were freaking out and their own anger at him. They have been dogged for years about boybands not lasting beyond 5 yrs and which member will jump first? He took the plunge . It was either hazz or zee. Just that he took the most pain impactul route ...... They were almost done fulfilling their contract...just a few more months and all of them wd hv sat and talked ...come to a decent agreement.
Mental issues,...eating disorders? Thats what friends are for ...and/or therapy....if its that awful.

Therapy? People to just talk to about simmering issues? At the end, we all have to own our actions and just apologize when it hurts others..,.it helps the healing process.

Zayn almost didn't make it into 1D because of his anxiety. Simon actually went backstage to get him for a performance that he was supposed to do. He talked to Zayn for a good few minutes and Zayn decided to go ahead and give the performance a try. We would have missed out on such a beautiful talent. I don't know if Zayn would have ever tried another talent show or continued with his music if he hadn't made it into 1D.
He was also supposed to audition in 2009 but backed out because he was too nervous
...and the fact that he wouldn’t have even shown up for Xfactor auditions in 2010 if not for his Mom making him get up and pushing him out the door.
I saw the footage of Simon telling him, “I’m trying to help you Zayn, don’t mess it up.” & Zayn saying alright he’d do it (it was for the dancing number), he REALLY didn’t want to, said he felt stupid because he can’t dance.
I can actually relate with the man, cause I have terrible anxiety and fears too, he’s a great vocalist his vocal control is unmatchable, I’ve always been a Harry Stan but I always had huge respect for zayn and even the other boys all are very talent down to earth boys.
A Adam ??? Not true. He states it way back before one d. It’s the reason he didn’t try out in 2009. he’s always had it. Certain things made it worse for sure. No one ever told him his voice wasn’t good enough. They used to always call him (his voice) their secret weapon and say it gave them their edge. he just didn’t always like to sing in their style. The style just wasn’t his; and his songs weren’t used because they didn’t ‘fit’ the band and what they were doing. But he’s since released at least some of those same songs on his own when he left. Louis has said that Zayn’s anxiety was closest to his own at the start, in the earlier years and they related to each other because of it. Why do you think he didn’t want to dance? Just because he thought he wasn’t any good? No, because he had anxiety and it made him not confident and nervous, he felt stupid doing it - but he did it.
@@A.Adam22 He did have anxiety in 2010. It definitely wasn't as bad as later on in their career but it was still there. Being in one direction just made it worse with all the constant touring, interviews, and just in general being overworked. 2014 wasn't when he developed anxiety it just became more noticeable because that was when his mental and physical well being was at an all-time low since that was also when his (tw//) eating disorder peaked. Also from what I know, he was never told his voice wasn't good enough he just didn't like the style of music they were making. And I don't think his stage confidence while in one direction ever really went down I think at the end he was honestly just tired.

Zayn would be one of the biggest artist now if he do promos, live performances and tour. He could have been receiving awards left and right but he chooses to just release music and let his fans hear it, I love how he just never stop making music despite all his anxieties. I still feel like he is the kind of person who does not really want the fame he just wants to share his music. He already have 2 amazing albums and I am so proud of it. Zayn is the first member of 1D I liked. His voice left me SHOCK as hell. At first, I thought he was just another basic boyband member, cause I might admit, back when 1D were together, I never really payed attention to their music, so I never got the hype (not cause I thought they weren’t good but cause I was more focused on heavier music genres). But when they split, and Zayn released this song, I couldn’t believe my ears. He’s one of the best voices I’ve ever heard, plus I’m not sure if he writes his songs, but his last album is amazing. It’s what made me an instant fan of him.
I completely agree with you. I started listening to Zayn’s music late last year and his two albums are amazing. And yes he either writes or co-writes all of his songs and all of his music video are all his ideas too. Such an amazing artist.

The director, who's also a good friend of the 1D boys, went backstage to talk to Zayn and calm him and his nerves.

I wish Zayn knew that he could literally go on stage and sing the phonebook, or the dictionary, to his fans and they would gladly pay to hear it, and would support him through every note! No one expects him to be Harry Styles, or even Liam Payne or Niall Horan on stage. All he has to be is himself and the fans would go crazy for that. Hopefully, someday he can work through his anxiety issues and perform live again. If not, that's okay too, and I'll gladly buy his albums and watch his vids. :)

It's difficult to even speak up in class imagine performing in front of thousand of people and being followed by people having million of pictures taken of you and everyone having an opinion about you , honestly as someone who struggles with anxiety I can't imagine how he managed 4 years nearly 5 years , and dropping albums , I just can't but honestly I'm just so proud of him !!!

Haven’t actually watched this performance in a long long time. So proud of Zaynie he’s done a great work on that stage. Surely would be cool to actually see him on tour but if he chose to not pressure his mental health with performances too much it’s completely valid and should be respected. In the end tha man gave us an album with 27 incredible fucking songs

liam? No, I find Liam pitchy and dry. I would say Zayn has the biggest range and best vocal abilities but Harry has more grit to his vocals for sure which makes it sound like he has more power at times. Harry and Zayn are the two vocalist from one direction though. Liam lost his vocals over-time. Back in x factor early days Liam was really good but he lost his technique.

@@kbaker9753 Liam's range is actually as big as Zayn's. Liam can go from d2 to d5 and Zayn can go from a2 to a5, so they have the same range but Zayn's is four notes higher

Yes! Someone else who understands anxiety! I used to get in trouble as a kid for refusing to do things because of my anxiety. I don't think people without anxiety can quite understand that it's not always possible to "push through it" or that it's not just a "sometimes" thing. The fact that Zayn did for this performance is so sick.
Having an anxiety disorder most of my life, watching this made me anxious for him at the beginning, but as he relaxed, I relaxed for him. Watching Zayn pass out at the end of one of the San Siro concerts makes one realise how much of a toll live performances took on him..😞

I think in the band they treated Harry and Zayn as the powerhouse vocalists.
Harry has this really rich voice with a beautiful chest range (so he stuck to choruses/pre-choruses) whereas Zayn had a killer falsetto and the most dynamic range (so he stuck to the background doing ad-libs, riffs, and high notes, he also took on bridges quite often in songs.) After Zayn left, Liam kinda took on his role.
Because of Harry's tone (which is REALLY rich) he was always considered THE powerhouse vocalist, but imo Liam was the one who was always up there with Zayn vocally. 🤷🏻♀️
This is the perfect analysis. People really don't appreciate Liam's vocals enough because he doesn't have a more unique tone like Harry's and Zayn's, but you can tell he's been trained vocally and has a beautiful voice and falsetto. Liam carried a lot of the high harmonies in songs too. I love Harry, but I've always felt he doesn't have the greatest vocal technique, which is weird because they would've had the best vocal coaches. He's gonna damage his voice, if he hasn't already (it's definitely more raspy than it used to be, which could mean damage)
@@mirandac3878 I totally get what you mean! I absolutely adore both Harry and his voice, (there is just something so calming about it) but I've always felt like Liam fell so under the radar just because his voice is a lot more 'generic' sounding.
Agree with all of the above. Just want to add that Liam also has such beautiful deep notes.
The generic quality of his voice was probably what really glued the others' very characteristic voices together in the band (and in the songs, a lot of the time).

Liam not only was up there vocally but you could tell they aimed for him to be recognized like Zayn and Harry cause he got the most solos out of all the boys and i do get disappointed when ppl don’t appreciate him that mcuh

And as someone who deals with severe anxiety, I could tell how in the beginning he was kinda scared but slowly he got amazingly confident and towards the end he was totally in to it.

His albums are amazing, great storylines, vocals out of this world. He has such an incredible range, fell in love with him the first time I saw him and heard his wonderful voice, melts in my ears like honey. He's so strong and brave, just overall such a sweet smart man.
Zayn didn’t have anxiety 2010 he didn’t want to dance that is why he left and Simon found him, go and check from 2010 -13 he was very confident at stage and spoke a lot at interviews, Zayn anxiety started 2014 when he had problems with the management and they refused his songs while they recorded the other four guys songs, at the some time criticised how he sang and re-record his voice hundreds timed to suit more roc, told him he wasn’t good enough that is why he developed anxiety, when you are young and people who are your employer criticise everything you do is horrible, that is why he developed anxiety and eating disorder so Zayn didn’t have anxiety 2010.

If you hadn't read the excerpt from his book I wouldn't have thought he was as nervous as he says. The lights were low so he wasn't blinded so that helped. In fact all the lighting was low key very much by design for his sake to help him feel less "under a microscope". Zayn 's performance was excellent despite his nerves. His voice is angelic and his song is fire.

It's just a crime that he has this awful anxiety and wouldn't perform live, he's so good. I think his music really needs to be sung live. Also I have a feeling that when he does those crazy vocal runs he's like off to different dimention where there is nothing that bothers him. It's not the artist-audience connection that some people wish to get but it's still fascinating to watch. Even though his music is not my genre, I'd love to hear it live cuz I know how great of an artist he is. I hope he'll be able to overcome anxiety at some point of his life.
It would have been such a tragedy if Zayn had not overcome his anxiety and given up singing - what a crime that would have been. His live vocals have always been epic ! I think he's always been a perfectionist and I hope that in the future he realises more and more that his fans/peers would rather see an imperfect performance from Zayn than not have one at all ! I actually think Gigi being in the spotlight for so many years from such a young age has really helped him deal with things a lot better. Thanks Steven - great reaction again !!

i remember in an interview that he had so much anxitey that he asked niall if he could tell zayn what he should say when they asked him.. and he have also been going through an long eating disorder and that really killed him :( my poor baby

I know this is late but watching Zayn overcome his anxiety to perform makes me really proud of him. If you watch another video here on youtube of the San Siro concert he actually fainted the minute they got off stage. Actually when they were still frontstage but the stage started covering them up so I'm not sure if the fabs picked up on it but you can definitely see him passing out on video. And I feel proud that he held on for so long until the last minute because than concert was craazy

Zayn reminds me so much of Daniel Johns from Silverchair. Both started in the industry young, crippling anxiety, eating disorder and they don’t tour. Zayn seems so much better now thankfully-Daniel as well
