To anyone who comes across this video who is a fan of Slick Slime Sam. This is *not* a hate video, I do not hate their channel. I think their Craft, DIY and Science videos are wonderful for kids to watch and try. I'm disappointed by the channel because of their lack of misinformation they're spreading to millions, animals require special care which Slick Slime Sam could very well help educate millions on the proper care but they've done the opposite unfortunately and that needs to be talked about.

It’s insanely sad that videos like the one by Slick Slime Sam get millions of views while educational videos that promote proper care don’t get nearly as many. This channel is underrated.

My daughter will be turning 6 in a couple weeks and has been begging for a hamster for the past TWO years. This is largely because she is such a fan of Slick Slime Sam. The whole reason I'm here right now is because I've been researching how to properly care for hamsters. I'm so glad I found your channel before committing to our first hamster. If my daughter is going to get a hamster for her birthday she is going to learn the proper way to care for one! Thanks so much for all your informative videos!

Thank you for doing that. I wish my parents did this for me when I got my first hamster because over 10 years later I still feel bad about how terribly my hamster was cared for. We just did what the pet store told us to and didn’t know that we could do our own research. I’ll carry that guilt for the rest of my life and it’s great your kids won’t have to deal with that.

Yup! I've been researching rats because I really want one, and that cage is disgusting. Not to mention that it's on its own! These people should be called out for animal abuse. That cage isn't even big enough for a dwarf hamster, let alone a rat!

There’s so much good information on the internet about rats now, there is literally no excuse to treat an animal like this when the information is so easily accessible. It’s pretty simple that rats need a big cage with lots of enrichment and a group of friends - breaks my heart :(

Ikr I dont own hamsters so I guess seeing the hamsters in those cages didn't affect me on a personal level as much (of course it's still horrible) but I have 2 rats and omg when I saw that cage, there's nothing in it except food and water, no bedding or toys or even a wheel or a hide, and it's way too tiny for tater tot AND there's only one rat and they're social so rats really need to be in groups of at least 2 or more

That “rat” cage isn’t even made for rats the ramp ladder thing is way to small it can’t even fit and the hide away is as small as it’s body
rats need extremly large cages and they need a weel and you cant even fit the size weel ylu need in the cage
I had a cousin who had rats (or mice, I dont remember), and it was the size of a large shelf and it was also tall. She had a couple, so they were social and had toys. This was just way too small for the rat.
Ava Tucker from what I’ve learned rats don’t need wheels rather things to climb on and play with my rats have never liked wheels and prefer just to climb
Ichabod El clown owner of 4 rats here . Female rats usually need wheels since females are normally more energetic it depends on the rats but my rats do use wheels .
Working K9luna as an owner of two males I guess it depends on gender because I tried a wheel but they never used it and perfered to climb on bridges and in their hammocks or generally play with me

As a rat mom who had adopted for boys with mykoplasmosis, the vet bill thing is painfully relatable. They are still the most wonderful little guys.
I found my daughter watching this channel and questioned it, having a hamster and thanks to you knowing how to care for her properly. My daughter enjoys the show while for me it kinda of hurt seeing a rat in a cage the size of it body. It just shows the importance of managing what your children watch

I know this is a bit late, but I think there's no saving grace for that channel, it's owned by the same company or publisher, that also did 5-Minutes Craft, so poor Hamsters and Rats.
They wouldn't really care either way, regardless of whoever spoke up, unless it's the authority.

Wow I wrote this sitting on my front steps at my old house before I moved and didn’t see that it got attention until after I moved so that’s cool.
I’m pretty sure the rat cage is smaller than the hamster cage. Some people don’t simply understand
I’m just looking at the recent comments, and I am shocked. People can have their opinions, but Victoria Raechel does not make videos for views, she does it because she cares about hamster well being. She even explained that this wasn’t a hate video, and people are still coming after her.
Thank you 🥺 Unfortunuely most of those comments I do know are kids, and as a kid (as I once was one so I know pretty well) you can get defensive fast over something/someone you like.

When I bought my hamsters I was 9 and I kinda regret buying them don’t get me wrong i love them sooo much but I feel like they could have a better life but I have learnt from my mistakes and I still have them but in proper care while spending every penny on them 🥺✨

Now this is just making me upset look, I'm ten and when i was seven my parents told me i could have a hamster when I'm ten, i was currently watching little kid channels that were cruel to hamsters and other small animals so i started my research right on the spot now my hamster cooper is very happy and all my research payed off but it upsets me how parents tell little kids they they're not gonna do anything for the hamster and they'd have to do it themselves.Most would start counting down the days till they get one without research but a few would look at any video with the title hamster in it and believe what ever it says so this stupid slick slime thing could have a big impact on a poor little hamsters life.And that rat cage shocked me. this might be the longest comment here lol!
It may be long but it’s factual, I’m glad someone younger than most people here how’s a lot, nOw I used to have two hamsters, and I feeel so sorry and wish I could apologize to them, but they died shortly after we got them.. they had a pretty small cage, we loved them and let them free roam lots but they just...ughh.. I was so young as well as my family and we didn’t do research...I am older now and want more hammies (I’ve done lots of research of lots of animals I wanted) so I know now what to do, and they are so cute 💜
for a ten year old, you're smart, too. i used to own rats, and hamsters as a kid, and now i only have one old hamster that i got from my cousin who decided to neglect it after it bit her for what she did to it. i know how to take care of hamsters, but tbh, i'm here because i just want to look at the horrible care people consider for THEIR hamsters

I’ve been a hamster owner for several years now and I’m new time rat owner and this video is absolutely devastating. I’ve done plenty of research before getting my rats and they are in great living conditions. I can’t believe they were keeping Tater tot by his or her self. AND THAT CAGE IS SO TINY. Praying for all of those animals

This is so sad. I know nothing about hamster care, but I do know the care in her turtle video was equally as bad.
This spreading of misinformation makes me so angry and the fact that these cages are even sold is insane to me. This is why I'm getting my zoology degree so I can have a better chance fighting for changes to legislations on minimum cage sizes that can be sold. Thank you for making these videos!

What should we do if friends (esp parents) don’t want to listen to advice... my mom always tells me to let things go but when I see animal mistreatment I speak up. Very few people take it well :( this might be a great topic to discuss in depth unless the only thing we really can do is let it go 😭

When I got my hamster my dad said to buy that cage that it was fine but I told him it actually isn’t so I got a better cage

When we first got our super cute angora hamster, Pet Smart recommended we get a little cage with a lot of tubes. We didn't know any better until we found your channel. Poor Hammie was always squished in the tunnel and bitting the bars of the cage. She got scabs around her mouth. We quickly got rid of that cage and bought her a big spacious one with only 2 levels which she loves. She is really relaxed, happy and healthy. We (me, little Hammie and the 3 kids) cannot thank you enough for your educational videos.
Rats are definitely social animals, and I used to have a cage for mine that took up most of my living room, they need loads of room height and width

I think I am very lucky I can afford my mouse a 10 gallon fish tank to live in. And don’t worry I did SO much research on my mouse so he is taken care of well.

I have a albino dwarf rescue hamster in a 100 gallon cage with 14 inches of bedding and quite alot of toys. Her name is lark the cage she was in before I got her was a 30 gallon with about 4 inches of bedding in it.
