    Hi Doctor,
    I was born with ptosis in my two eyes. I had a surgical operation when I was 20 years old, and the results were not satisfactory the second time, when I was 21 years old. I constantly have the sensation that my eyes are tired. Please, how can you advise me?
    Best regards.

      Ptosis is not a one-surgery-fits-all condition, but it is a spectrum. Various types of surgeries are available for treatment, and the choice depends upon the severity. Some are permanent, while others are temporary. If you can share me her photos/medical reports, I can guide you further. My email id is milind@drmilindnaik.com

    1) i heard that ptosis surgery has risks to it.. Overcorrection can lead to you not able to close your eyes properly etc.. Are these risks true should we worry about the risks?
    2) i dont have much pain tolerance.. Is this surgery painful??
    3) is ptosis surgery permanent(normally)
    4) i am really scareddddd should i be really scared or it would go well..?
    5) should i go for the surgery if can afford it will i have my eyes even again?

    My 8 year old girl child has the right eye smaller than the other and this eye moves involuntarily when she moves her jaw, like for chewing etc .. (Marcus Gunn jaw-winking) is it a more complicated situation than the one's the featured in the video here? Will this surgery be covered under insurance?

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  Год назад

      Hello,
      Thank you for writing to me about your 'Eyelid winking', medically termed as Marcus Gunn Jaw Winking (MGJW). Here is some useful information about it: MGJW is a neurological mis-wiring. The chewing muscles have an abnormal nerve connection with the eyelid muscle, such that they both tend to move together. Patients often find the eyelid moving while eating food. These patients often have a droopy eyelid on the same side.
      Since this is a mis-wiring by birth, exact correction is not possible. However, if the eyelid is also droopy, that can be corrected. In most cases, the eyelid winking will reduce, but will not completely go away. Most insurance companies will not cover birth defects.

    Hi Doctor. Can solve the ptosis of my eyes with C P E O? Dr said that mine is the Mitochondrial illness which affected to muscles of eyes. The condition is drooping of eye lids and movement of the pupils are poor.

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  2 года назад +1

      In most cases of CPEO, surgery is avoided. This is because the reduced movement of the eyeball can pose an additional risk of drying of the eye surface if the eyelid is lifted. However, a consultation can be done, where we measure the eyelid aperture, muscle function (levator function), and eye movements. Based on the risks involved, conservative surgery can be performed in select cases. You can reach me on info@drmilindnaik.com

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  5 лет назад +2

      The commonest mistake a ptosis patient does is assuming all ptosis are the same, and what happened to that other patient will happen to me. Ptosis has a spectrum of severity, and there are various types of surgeries to fix it. The discomfort, side-effect profile, and longevity of the surgery depend upon the severity of ptosis. Your best bet is to have an actual consultation with an Oculoplastic surgeon in your city. If you can tell me where you are located, I can help. Best, Milind.

    Hi Doctor, My son 1.5 years old right eye ptosis. I would say it's moderate ptosis. What would be the best time to correct it? Please suggest

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  3 года назад +1

      Hello, Thank you for contacting me regarding your child with ptosis. The early years of life (first 8-10 years) are critical for the development of vision. During this period, eyelid droop (ptosis) if severe can hamper vision development. Not every child of that age requires correction of ptosis. Surgery is required if the vision is affected by the eyelid. If vision is normal, surgery can be delayed until the child wants it cosmetically. I would request you to come to Hyderabad for a consultation and complete check-up, in order to decide the need for surgery. Alternatively, you can see a paediatric ophthalmologist in your city. Please note, that special vision charts are required to correctly assess a child's vision, and they are not available in every clinic. Best regards, Dr Milind Naik, MD

    Sir i have done ptosis sling surgery 5 years back . The silicon wire has exposed in forehead area. Whether it needed resurgery or is there anything i can do to avoid resurgery

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  6 месяцев назад

      Exposure of the sling material is a rare but possible complication of surgery. Unless fixed, it will attract infection, which may spread along the entire extent of the sling (from brow to lid). Meet your surgeon, and get it fixed.
      The fact that you underwent sling surgery means your natural lid muscle has poor to no action. In this case, re-surgeries after every 2-5 years is inevitable, and cannot be avoided. That is the normal life of any sling surgery.

      Hello Gursimran, a small gap between the two eyes is unavoidable for ptosis that has been there since birth. Rather than looking at it as a problem, think of it as an indicator of the success of the surgery. A small gap between the lids while sleeping does not affect the eye function. In fact, many normal individuals sleep with a slight opening in both their eyes. It is up to you to decide if you wish to look normal during the day (when it is more important), or during the night (when you are asleep!).

      Ptosis surgery is a very broad term. Its extent, complications, and duration of success depends upon cause and severity. Severe type of ptosis rarely gets corrected with one surgery alone. May be your ptosis belongs to that minor category. Only an eye plastic surgeon who has examined you can answer your questions.

      Hello Pradnya, the severity of ptosis can vary from person to person. In cases where the levator muscle function is good to fair, results are long-lasting. But if muscle function is poor, the surgery may require revisions. You need ot meet your surgeon for a checkup and discussion.

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  4 года назад

      Incomplete eye closure following ptosis surgery is only seen in congenital ptosis. More severe the ptosis, more is the gap. It is not applicable to other types of ptosis.Lubricant eye drops are required for first few months. Later, your eye can get used to it, and does not require any medications.

      Ptosis can be mild, moderate or severe. Each type has a different surgery. Surgery can be muscle tightening (elevator resection) or sling surgery. The right option is chosen by a complete evaluation. The cost could vary approximately anything between 25,000 INR to 1,20,000 INR based on the type of surgery chosen, type of anesthesia, and the type of room for overnight stay.

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  2 года назад

      Ptosis varies in its severity, and there are several surgeries to fix it. To give an exact cost estimate, I first need to measure your eye findings to find out which surgery is most suited for you. The extent of surgery, type of anaesthesia etc decides the cost. However, a rough estimate can be anything between 24,000 INR (basic package) to 1.5 lakhs (most complex surgery with best surgical technology. Only an actual consultation will allow me to specify what suits you.

      Tear secretion is not affected by surgery.
      About 'difficulty in future', it depends on cause of ptosis. It cannot be explained here. You need to see an eye plastic surgeon to find out what difficulties may be applicable to your findings.

      Yes, she can blink after surgery and close it fully. That is because her ptosis is NOT congenital in nature. If you received sling surgery, most likely you had severe ptosis since birth, and the problems you mentioned are inevitable.

      Eyelid fold scars very well, and the mark does not look like a scar, but more like a natural eyelid fold. You can check out photos on my website: www.drmilindnaik.com/droopy-eyelid.php
      Look for photos that show closed eyes, or eyes looking down after the surgery, where you can assess the scar.

    My son is 6 yr old . He has congenital Eye Ptosis(Left eye). At 8 months he had surgery of left eye eye lift up . But it was not successful and droop again . After that i visited many consultants for check up , they adviced me for surgery and foe being time taping the eye with skin paper tape to hold eye lift up. I am doing this since many years bcoz his vision keeps correct. So Doctor what should i do next. Please give me directions..

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  5 лет назад

      Hello. Thanks for sharing your son's ptosis concern. Surgery at 8 months was most likely performed in order to allow the development of normal vision. That is almost always a 'sling' surgery, and it has a limited life. The surgery, therefore, did not fail but did its job. Sling surgeries require to be repeated. If you can send me your son's photos and any other consultation details, I can help you further. My email id is milind@drmilindnaik.com

      Thank you for contacting me regarding your child with ptosis. Please contact me on milind@drmilindnaik.com

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  4 года назад

      Not every ptosis surgery lasts for a lifetime. It depends upon your muscle function. Eye remaining open after surgery is an unavoidable side-effect of some ptosis surgeries (not all). The best information can be obtained by an actual discussion with your doctor.

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  4 года назад

      Hello Ruksana, ptosis when mild, can appear normal in morning hours. As the lid gets tired towards the end of the day, it shows up. Hypothyroid patients can have an increased chance of ptosis if the eye is prominent. Only a check-up can tell. However, if you wish, you can share your photo with me on email and we can discuss.

    • @drmilindnaik
      @drmilindnaik  24 дня назад

      Fasanella servat is an outdated procedure. The normal tarsus is removed (50%) in this surgery, which is not necessary. There are better options available. For any ptosis surgery, there will always be a 10% chance of over/under-correction that requires additional stitch adjustment

    • @drmilindnaik

      Few ptosis surgeries (MMCR) can be performed from behind the eyelid, and hence leave no visible scar. Most ptosis surgeries require eyelid skin or brow skin incisions. Only an actual examination can determine which surgery is suited for a given patient.
