- First video entirely dedicated to a single car I recorded during the 2017 Goodwood festival of Speed. It's about the Subaru WRX STi Type RA NBR Special, modified by Prodrive and driven by Mark Higgins, which will attempt a record run at the Nurburgring later this summer.

HeavyHarris Maybe a straight pipe after the turbo? But beware, that maybe annoyingly loud.
Remove you blow off valve or bypass valve, make a metal intake pipe going into the turbo (makes it louder), the length and shape of the pipe and the air filter can change the sound, also the intercooler piping can change the sound, this WRX for example has a short pipe with a 90 degree silicone hose into a large square air filter and fairly short intercooler piping.
iHeart GT86 {KatyCat} I'd blame Toyota for that one, I know the GT86 is powered by a Subaru Boxer but I think it's Toyota holding the whole project back.
You just know Subaru is desperate to put an STI engine in there.
It's a world rally car with no turbo restictor .

Yeah man, they were right to keep the motor and overhaul the chassis. The motor is already a proven tuning platform capable of big power.

This was an amazing feat in the timed section. This four door sedan managed the third best time, marginally beaten by an Indy car and a former Le Mans winner. Also defeating other top class contenders. I am impressed.

That is my dream car. By far, one of the best Subaru’s I’ve ever seen or heard. I mean, the sound is just amazing.
The personality of this car really shines when it’s driven on the limit, loved the way the tires were being warmed too! Prodrive can sure build a monster😈

What causes that flutter? Air going backwards through the turbo? Wastegate?
@@seanandrew2823 That fluttering noise is the sound of aturbo operating in compressor surge, as the compressor 'chops' through the air rather than pushing the air into the engine. ... To do this, it opens as quickly as it can when there is a rapid change in engine load from boost to vacuum - such as when a throttle plate closes.

Actually it's more so anti-lag system that creates so much noise no way you could get that much chatter from a standard turbo/bow off valve system.
You gotta love a visit to Goodwood festival of speed. Amazing day out is an understatement

When I hear that turbo flutter, it flutters my heart.
*TLDR: nostalgic rambling*
I had a modified 2000 wrx, inspired by the Prodrive P1. It was only lightly modified but back then they only weighed 1250kg, it would take any car at the time from 0-60, accelerated hard but cornered on rails.
This clip gives me hope that subaru's can capture that spirit and become the dominant hot hatch once more, granted this thing is borderline demonic and far from factory form, though to the credit of prodrive it looks like a production car. Take my car and make it 1000% more badass and this is what you get, and yet I'd sell a kidney to buy back my old Subaru...

The WRX STI Type RA NBR Special is a custom built race car built by Prodrive using a stock 2017 WRX STI with a full roll cage welded into the standard WRX STI unibody for added strength and stiffness. It has a modified 2.0-liter Subaru WRC-spec boxer motor. It uses a 75-mm intake, and the turbo runs at 25 psi of boost. This produces more than 600 horsepower at 8,500 rpm. Prodrive calculated the top speed at the ’Ring would be 179 mph at 8,500 rpm in top gear. The car has 9-inch-wide slick tires all around. It uses a WRC gearbox with an automatic clutch, modified with hydraulics for paddle-shift operation. Shift times are some of the fastest at 20 to 25 milliseconds. A redesigned aero-package, different than last year’s TT car set up, delivers improved handling and top speed on the NBR Special. At top speed the whole package produces about 650 pounds of downforce. The design includes a Drag Reduction System rear wing similar to the technology found in Formula 1 cars. With its combined electric and hydraulic operation, the wing can deploy for full downforce/drag under braking or in fast turns and then open for less downforce/drag on long straights. The driver has full control of the DRS via a steering wheel mounted control taking less than 20 milliseconds to change position fully.
