The entire idea of a period being sexual is 100% a male gaze issue. I promise you 99.999% of women out there do not get a period and ...what? Want to start gooning?? LOL. Some guys have been honest with me and said they wish they had more games like this where the focus is more on the relationships and story and less on selling them porny collect-em-all moe bait. I think some of the hate from guys is probably frustration? I think if someone made a LADS for guys they'd totally have a market.

I had the same conversation with at least five different men at this point. They wished there was a LADS that had women. I think it would be a lot more popular than the masses would think.
Emotional gooning is still gooning. Periods aside, the game is clearly advertised as a softcore porn for women, and there's a lot of it in the game. And don't act like characters having personalities is exclusive to LADS. Some games for men, like nikke for example has both, good story and gooner bait. With character arcs and all, yet it doesn't have straight up porn with mc getting slurped by every girl.
I appreciate your take on this. The primary point of the period tracker is also just to provide a little extra comfort during a time when many women experience a pain and discomfort. It's nice to log in and have a character say things like "hey, since you're on your period, it's okay if you want to take it easy today. Maybe treat yourself a little.". To say that makes it a gooner game is a pretty insane take. That's not to say there are no "gooner" aspects to the game at all, however it is a very small portion of the overall gameplay. It's primarily a story driven game with combat and minigame elements. The love interests don't just exist to be objectified. They are fully realized characters with their own motivations, flaws, and quirks. The romance focuses on slowly getting to know the characters, unveiling their lore, and seeing the relationship progress. It took 6 months before we even got our first kiss cards, and there's only been a couple of limited banners with suggestive/steamy cards.
Exactly bro…like irl men probably will tell us to suck it up or smth (not all but a lot of times) this happened to my friend before. I just need some words of affirmation😭some American apps need people to pay for tracking periods and sometimes the government might actually track it too (ik it sounds crazy but I heard it’s true) this is a CHINESE app so they can’t track it. The response to the period tracker was so so stupid. I cant believe it even went that far. I think a lot of the men attacking us were ignorant to what a period tracker was and thought it was sexually implied in the game, which honestly is even worse because that means they automatically associate periods as sexual. Another thing that annoyed me was the backpeddaling to the definition of “gooning” when they realized it doesn’t suit their narrative. They had all of last month to call us this term since a banner of the boys making out with the MC came out last update (mind you this is AFTER a whole year of slow burns and non-sexual romance) and we wouldnt have given a shit about it b/c the girls were shameless about it on the timeline, lol. but no, they chose a period tracker to imply this was the reason we were gooners instead???

That was my thought too. Like, maybe those guys are conflating a period traker with a fertility traker, I could almost get that. However, to make that leap in logic, you have to have A, never really interacted with a woman about her period, and B, not actually looked into what the tracker part of the game actually did.

It is a gooner game though, even if you're there for romance. Some of the animations are more sexual than in any non porn gachas i've seen.
Tbh Love and Deepspace is more about sad love stories than anything else. We got 2 "spicy" banners where they make out, but it's so different than a gooner game.

it's really unfortunate because being a hatemonger is EXTREMELY lucrative, and many of these men equate financial success with morality, so they think they're doing the right thing by being that way.
The funny thing is that women track their periods anyway. First thing doctors ask when a woman goes to any clinic is abt pregnancy and the cycle. Many tracker apps do have pop up messages when enabled that give tips on how to make it more bearable if u have discomfort or pain. Of all things to trigger men is the most average normal body function of a woman is so man-coded im not even disappointed anymore.
Those men complain because the only time they can imagine tracking a woman's period cycle is when they have a partner. They view period cycles as "when I can/can't have sex".
The wild thing is that they got caught up on the least spicy part of the game. Love and Deepspace is like 80% a mix of plot, romance, ANGST (heavy on the angst) and lore, and 20% mild spice.
It would be disingenuous to say there aren’t sensual/suggestive parts of the game, and that that’s not part of its appeal. The game does still take women’s sexual desires into account when crafting the game, non-explicitly. It’s suggestive. But also those elements of the game are not front and center nor the main focus of the game. (There ARE games like that for women, and people who have actually tried playing LaDS for just the spice have left the game because it’s not enough to sustain the game on its own if you don’t like lore, combat, romance, and plot).
But the period tracker is literally not a part of the spice at all. (There’s literally an audio where one of the LIs is like don’t worry I won’t try anything I know you’re not feeling well). That’s the most maddening part about this. Men being so out of touch and disgusted by women’s bodily functions to make wild statements about it. Like nooo it’s not the shirtless men, or the suggestive as hell ASMR, not the LI’s being tied up and handcuffed nooo it’s the period tracker.
That is to say, I don’t think it’s even productive to present LaDS as a completely non-sensual game. It’s not. But women are allowed to be sexual and sensual creatures. But the main thing about LaDS is that it caters to women in a *variety* of ways. And doesn’t sacrifice depth for sex. And it’s not centered around sex appeal. It’s more well rounded imo.
Part of the issue with video games sexualizing women is that it often comes at the expense of having well rounded characters of women. They exist purely as a sexual fantasy. In LaDS each LI has fully fleshed out stories, complexities, motives. Also they’re not…underage looking. (For the ones comparing it to l*li gacha games).
Does that mean every game geared towards men is fanservice that lacks depth? No. But a lot are. That’s why they get clowned on. LaDS doesn’t fit that category and it most definitely doesn’t for having a period tracker.
can i get a "oh yeah" for LaDS that only has very healthy, mature, non toxic, supportive men catered towards women? it's rare in otome games to achieve this. ik there are women on the team, cause kinks can be cool, but when a dude is permanently toxic it's annoying.

There are goon aspects of the game. The period tracker, however, isn't one. That's why women are giving the side eye to those who cannot differentiate that.

I’m a very gay woman who recently started playing this game because I thought it would be interesting, and it IS. the storyline is actually fantastic imo-super compelling. it’s like reading a cool fantasy novel (which I haven’t bothered to read in years) and I’m having a complete and utter blast. hell, I should be playing the MH Wilds Beta right now but I’m just so enthralled by this! I also love & even respect how thoughtfully catered towards women it is. it feels careful and sometimes very touching, not like anything a “gooner game” would ever be lmfao. I think it makes us feel heard, even if it’s imaginative. and in a society like this, women want to feel heard in whatever way they can. many of us want to feel comforted too, and if someone can find comfort in books, I don’t think it’s abominable to think they can find comfort in this more interactive form of that as well! it’s truly beautifully done anyway.

Also Sylus came out in like July and we didn't even get our first kiss with him until January, the 'gooner' stuff is not the main point of the game. Period tracking is a necessity for almost every women. I bet these men have never cared about anything or anyone in their lives, including themselves, as they are writing from their mothers' basements.
My husband tracks my period. Because - what a surprise - we love each other and want to spend time together, so he need to consider my period. No theater if I need to pee every half an hour and such. Also we are partners - who can expect that - and have to do choirs in our household. When I'm on my period, adjustments are necessary, and he wouldn't plan to go grocery shopping for 20 kilos of food on my period. That's what men, who have long lasting relationship, do. We have been together for seven years already.
I love how Love & Deepspace is 90% story, or cute stuff, and then 10% non explicit kinda horny stuff, but we are getting shit on. Meanwhile people be out there playing Hunie Pop and other way more sexual visual novels/dating sims, most primarily aimed at men, for ages and everyone was quiet. Nothing wrong with those, but the hypocrisy level with something WAY milder is crazy 😂 Just cuz it focuses on women?

I think what often isn't talked about in this game (and I understand why) is the combat portion of it. That, I think is one of my favorite things about the game. The fact that we can weild giant swords and shoot guns with the guys fighting along side us as partners is amazing and I wish they would go all out and make a full console game like this. They are close with infinity nikki (same company) but while I love Nikki too, it still feels a bit lacking in that aspect.
Plus LaDs has a more mature plotline. We play in a world that is corrupted by corperations and human experminations. We play as a Hunter constantly putting her life on the line fighting these space creatures after a near apocalypse invasion. Some of these men had to watch her die over and over again with her memories erased each time. I came for the men but stayed for the combat and plot. The year long build up to make-out scenes and the remind-me features are just bonuses 😂

@@TerminallyOnlineLeftist Yeah, it's kind of most of the game if you want to have various free stuff, including the gatcha currency. You need diamonds to pull the cards, and apart from spending real money, the best way to earn them is by doing dailies, various achievements and doing combat trials.
The cards themselves are stat boosters, which can be leveled up. For combat, you select one of the five guys and equip their cards, some are paired and give bonuses, etc. You get the idea! But the 4* and 5* cards are the ones that are the most important as they are better for stats, but also add audio or visual story to the game. And yeah a few of them are spicy, not going to deny that, but not the majority. They're mostly romantic fluff and/or tragic backstories with deep lore.

For real, that’s actually my favorite part of the game, and the one I spend more time in. I be actually play the combat of Hunter Contest and Directional Orbit more than once a day to try to beat them before the time limit.

Double Standards
Men who claim that periods are sexual probably don't have any sisters, close female friends or a girlfriend. Or they might be projecting their own kink onto others. Because periods are about as sexual as a nosebleed. Girls as young as 9 can menstruate and everyone is encouraged to track their period, as irregular cycles might hint at health issues. This has nothing to do with sex at all and it makes me so uncomfortable when I see men being weirded out by it, or worse, sexualizing it.
I honestly really like the period tracker feature. It's convenient and it's also kinda nice to get a few sweet voice lines when I'm in bed with cramps. It's like letting the game know "hey, i have the flu" and the character then telling you to take it easy and rest a bit. It's more wholesome than anything tbh.
Thanks for releasing this video, when I see many young incels who are out of touch of reality and follow stupid alpha males podcast or people like tectone could not be anymore disappointed, like the game can be gooner but period tracker is not one of it, I am in pain, drained and there are times I wish wasn’t a woman, not sure where the goon is. And to be honest I am using the period tracker not even for comfort, it’s just manage when I need to buy supplies and food I can eat and when I can’t go swimming or going out with friends, it’s just a simple management with comfort as an extra.

I got recced this and was a bit hesitant to watch it; I'm a Black leftist fan of the game and ngl, white leftist guys have burnt me more than once so I was a bit wary. I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised by your take! After seeing so many shitty takes on this game, your video was a breath of fresh air. I like that you were calm, concise, and just went over the facts.
Another comment here mentioned that while there are sexual aspects in the game, it's not the focal point. The men are characters first, there's relationship progression, and focus on fleshing them out. They're not inherently sexualized, there's no jiggle physics when they move just doing day to day things, for example. Even the few spicy banners memories have build up to them rather than just jumping right into the action.
The idea that a period is inherently sexual or makes a game gooner bait, is so asinine. I'm not surprised though with how much periods have been stigmatized and how terrible sexual education is, but it's not less frustrating to deal with.

Thank you for this response post. I used to watch tectone a lot and was used to his antics and rage bating but this just crossed the line. I personally really like otome games (my pfp and username is literally from an otome game) and it just made me mad when so many comments on his video talked about periods in a sexual way. Sometimes my cycle is really late or I get really bad cramps at the beginning of it so it’s important for me to track it and I’ve started taking medication for period pain. It just makes me so mad how people say things without knowing what they’re talking about but that’s the internet for you
Honestly thank you. I can't deny that there is sexual content in the game, but I still feel like there is more nuance? Unlike the games that LADS is compared to, the LADS guys don't have suggestive default clothing at all. They look quite normal, aside from broader shoulders and defined musculature lol (comparing this to other games where women have hips 2x the size of their waists, thick exposed thighs, and huge exposed chests). As someone who's not interested in sexual content, I personally find it very easy to avoid in LADS. For example, a certain suggestive skin is NOT for F2P. You can just mute the gacha card stories, do other stuff, and collect the game gems after 6-10 minutes with no impact on plot. It's just like a little bonus for the people who enjoy it. I liked your point about differentiating this game from those Newgrounds dating sims because I was having trouble understanding why I feel like they are different. The sexual content is truly not the end goal. The universe and character psychology are so rich and interesting. (Edit: I would also like to say that I play some of the games that LADS gets compared to lol. I am truly a gacha gamer.)

I miss the time before tiktok. Communities were not that openly accessible for you to discover unless you were interested yourself. I absolutely hate the attention this game has gotten, and the wrong people decide to have opinions and insult the players. People who have no idea, who dont even know the definition of an otome having an opinion is crazy. The term gooning is also getting old and is always misused.
In this particular case, its crazy that tectone is behaving this way, giving his sexual interests and statements he keeps making. He needed a way to be relevant again since everybody started noticing his personality.
And in generall, this game has gotten so much attention and hate from men, which is not only heartbraking due to my first point, but also proves that this all stems from insecurities. Must feel pretty shitty to know that fictional 3d characters treat a woman better and woth more care than you ever will.
The way I would sometimes be too lazy to care about dialogue or watch the memories of characters but rather focus more on combat and training section just to hear that men have been calling us gooners. WILD AND HILARIOUS 😭

On one of the twitter posts I saw mentioning that period tracking isn't sexual, there had apparently been a (proposed?) community note essentially saying "actually, period tracking IS sexual because it means they're figuring out when they can get pregnant!" like..... no??? okay sure, my usual period tracker also estimates ovulation, but I wish I could turn that part OFF because I DO NOT NEED IT. I just need to know approximately when I'll start BLEEDING so I don't get caught with my proverbial pants down and my literal pants stained! and LaDS doesn't even HAVE an ovulation tracker!
