    This was so helpful. I love that you didn't assume the viewers new anything yet and were so thorough. This was easy to follow and it was so great seeing the visual representations of what you were sharing too. Thank you!

    What happens after the signal reaches pro tools? How do you use the outboard gear or plugins, automate and mixdown to a stereo output? This is what I've been hunting for on RUclips. The flow of signal reaching Pro tools is clear. What happens thereafter is a riddle!

      i know its been a year but if anyone reading this hasn't found the answer yet, you need to have an interface that has input ins & out. A basic focustrite scarlett 2i2 for example does not have this option, since the only 2 outs are usually used for your Monitors. Many interfaces just slightly above that price range like the UAD apollo's do have the option of having multiple in and out options. Then in your DAW you set the output of the channel itself to your interface out which ends up where ever you chose to wire it.

    This is great.! Thank you for showing us the signal flow of your setup. This really helps clear things up for me. I'll have to check out more of your videos. Does the converter connect to the computer directly, or is it sitting in a different part of the signal flow? What cables are used for the converter?

    • @lovesciencemusic
      @lovesciencemusic  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, converter always connects direct to computer or to computers HD cards if you’re running a baller protools HD system. Nowadays i think most interfaces are running Thunderbolt

  • @mauriciomaninomusic353

    Thanks for this! I have just one question: To get the signal out from the console, which output do you use from the console to go to the converter? Main Output? Or direct output?

    • @lovesciencemusic
      @lovesciencemusic  5 месяцев назад

      I think it depends on the console. SSLs for example sometimes have 5 sets of stereo outs. There are outs for the summed mix which are different from the outs that go to the various sets of studio monitors

  • @johnlee750
    @johnlee750 2 года назад +2

    So when the signal reaches the pre-amp, does it go through the entire channel strip flow and then get sent to outboard gear, the audio interface and the DAW, or does the signal go from the pre-amp directly to the outboard gear, and then back to the channel EQ and Fader before being sent to the audio interface and the DAW?

    • @ZenT8055
      @ZenT8055 Год назад +1

      i also have the same question. let me know if you found the answer. i'm kinda confuse with the flow.

    • @lovesciencemusic
      @lovesciencemusic  5 месяцев назад

      On most consoles you can actually route it either way - you would need to patch it or use the consoles insert sends and returns. So you can put the pieces of gear in whatever order you want via your patching

    I have been scouring the web watching tons of YT clips and came across yours - (like your new track too )
    My question is i tried to enter the fields on your contact page but the text appears in white or transparent so i can’t enter anything on there -
    I have a project studio at my apt here in midtown nyc (10 minute walk east of the Empire State Building in KIPS BAY area -
    I am upgrading my home studio into a hybrid setup and just got a bunch of new gear
    PRESONUS STUDIOLIVE 32SX / 2 HYDRASYNTHS / KORG WAVESTATE / BEHRINGER POLY-D / ROLAND BOUTIQUES SYNTHS / D50 / JUNO 60/106 /JP8 / SOFTUBE FADERS (x2) & CONSOLE 1 / PATCHBAYS and a bunch of outboard gear and wanted to know if you work as a freelance studio guy or know anyone that can maybe work and help me setup all my stuff at my home studio?

    how did you connect to the monitors

    • @lovesciencemusic

      The console has outputs that go to the monitors. It has multiple monitor outputs for the different sets of speakers

  • @Roensmusic
    @Roensmusic 2 года назад

    i was actually curious how the converter is connected to the protools computer. can you record all the channels separately in protools?

    • @lovesciencemusic
      @lovesciencemusic  5 месяцев назад

      Through the protools HDX cards with DB25 cables. You need one channel of conversion for every mic you’d like to record simultaneously. So if you wanna record 24 mics on a live band, you’ll need 24 channels of conversion on your interface

  • @designthevoid9640
    @designthevoid9640 4 года назад

    Thanks for the video! Where does the audio interface come into play? After the analog signal goes through the analog to digital converter, does it go through the audio interface, then Pro Tools? Thanks!

    • @lovesciencemusic
      @lovesciencemusic  4 года назад +1

      Glad you dig it. The audio interface is the converter, they are the same thing. So the audio goes from mics, to preamps, to the interface which converters analogue signals to digital signals, which then go to the computer and into the DAW

    • @designthevoid9640

    Wait how is mic channel 1 routed to the console and -> the DAW?

    • @lovesciencemusic
      @lovesciencemusic  4 года назад

      It’s ‘normaled’ from the XLR wall panel to the console preamps to the the interface to the computer to the DAW. The patch bay is the middle man that lets you route anywhere
