I hope everyone appreciates how good you are at drilling holes. Having the right drill and a good bit is only half of it... your feed and speed are perfect!
That's a super job well done, I live here in Ireland and have a Merc Atego that I want to shorten, I am very impressed with the long bar to mark the new bolt holes. Cheers from Ireland.
A fine job in under a day, very impressive. That mag drill is almost as handy as your GradAll for these jobs. Great explanation of the "story pole" system for layout too. The new owner will have his cab and chassis, you'll have some more room and on to the next one...Nice ! Work safe, stay warm.
that mag drill is so much faster than the old way. i might be able to do two of these in one day if i was pushing hard. i sure do need some room!! i started picking up the new purchases....i am stacking them deep this time!
JC, now you have to purchase some center drills to use for hole location, then switch to an annular cutter. The holes are cleaner and don't load the drill as hard. They drill a lot quicker than using a Silver and Deming type bit, and don't leave a large burr. I use a strap on my Milwaukee corded mag drill, and hang it from a cherry picker, so in the event that the drill grabs or loses power, the drill won't hit the ground.
Great video thanks brother. Just like always I like the way you do things. We are getting ready to cut a frame down at the race shop. I think you just made it a lot easier. Watching and learning one of the other things that I like. Second to the friendship on here. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
The salvage yard I worked at the boss bought a magdrill but it didn't work that well, didn't seem like it got enough power to drill and hold the magnet, then he got a regular frame drill on a rollaround stand, it had a 3/4 drill motor on it
I am looking for a parking brake like that for a Dana Spicer rear end on a project I am building. Any chances you could get manufacturers name off your unit so that I can contact them and see if they make one for my rear end? Good idea on that little 'story poll stick' for marking bolt holes! Think play in magdrill is on chuck adapter, maybe if you had gone with annular cutter (rotabroach) bit that play may have gone away. Lot harder to center holes using 'rotabroach; though.
Great to see you using a trammel to mark out the holes J.C. , l thought it was only old farts like me who used the old school methods lol - as always very informative mate - Cheers
This video was awesome. I like the Conduit trick with the tape and pencil, and measuring tape. Do you have any videos on stretching a chassis? I want to learn how to convert a tractor to a roll Off truck with a 260" wheelbase.
Get annular cutters for that drill. They cut faster, cleaner and can cut into another hole which always seems to happen when moving axles. Do you change the tie rod arms on the spindles too?
With tape on the tape and that dummy stick a person could really be somebody and nobody else will even know the difference😁🚛⛽🇺🇸🗽🤔 that just simplifies everything I remember just rolling It Forward marking the holes with a punch and rolling it back again but you only moving it once👍🏻
Hey J C. Good work man. How much do you charge to move the axle forward ? I'm considering buying a c5500 24 ft cab n chassis and wanna shorten it to just put a 8ft dually bed on it .
I get mine from a fastener supply. they have the exact size, grade, fine thread, and they have the correct bolts / nuts with the washers as one pieces.
Mag drill is worth every penny and cordless too, I was surprised to see that it's cordless, how long does the bettery last you when your doing a lot of drilling like this? You make it look like a piece of cake JC, I guess when you have done it enough times it is like second nature. So did the gradall move on to a new home? I would think it didnt seeing it is in the video ( Unless this was shot a while ago ) ,Mrs JC works the Gradall controls pretty well she looks like she has it down pat. And your nag on way easier to cut then add, I always say to people I would rather be over rather then under especially when it comes to the metals
i have drilled 2 whole trucks on one charge. no the gradall is at the shop where it will likely still be until my last days. she can operate the machine quite well. i figure he can always cut off the extra....it may take him a little time but i am sure it is less than it would be to add some frame.
Two trucks on one charge, now that is impressive, I would have thought with the heavy drilling it would wear down batteries quicker but damn that is decent for a cordless battery
I must say you`ve help me decide to move my rears back myself 24" instead of sending my truck to a shop. Much thanks.
if i can do it....almost anyone can!
I hope everyone appreciates how good you are at drilling holes. Having the right drill and a good bit is only half of it... your feed and speed are perfect!
Nice work sir…, very nice.
Great video,
Thank you sir, and little lady.

JC isn’t afraid to spend the money to get the right tool for the job does a better job and life go better ! Another great job as usual.
i dont like to spend money but it sure helps to have the right tools for the job!
I love that tip trick with the conduit and the tape. Great one sir
it saves me a good amount of time...not to mention it accurate.
Agree! It's a brilliant trick to get it 100% accurate. I'll be using this trick too.

Had to do this on my midlum truck 8 months ago. Right pain never did the tip you did. Wish I did lol would have been so much faster. Good job sir👍
Nice job , i'm planning the same thing here in the UK to make a skip loader truck and this has helped a lot.
Sure make it look easy...good tip on painting around the old spring hangers - great tip on that conduit with the bolt & pencil
it is easy......if it wasnt, i couldnt do it.
It looks like you've done this a time or two!! The conduit pipe is a great idea on getting holes evenly spaced, thanks for sharing!!
i may have done it once or twice before.
Nice work as usual J.C, I like your story pole, very accurate using bolt and pencil plus simple.
it is simple just like the guy using it in the video!
@@j.c.smithprojects lol, simple is always best and most intelligent way to do things.no point complicating things if you don't need to
Very informative! Never thought of story pole definitely going to use your tips on my next project
glad it could help!
Brings back memory’s... except mine was a double frame... originally cut off 15’... gotta cut another 6” or so now that the bed is in place
This is soo interesting and awesome to watch man! That drill goes through that like butter!! Definitely subbed!

in time....i will find the right deal on a good set of annular bits.
wow my friend i wait for your project i learn a lot
i have more projects than i have motivation to complete!
Thank you your video was helpful, shortened the wheelbase on a 2015 freightliner m2 106. . Making a tow truck out of it. Darren
very cool darren. if you make a video doing this pleas send me the link. i would love to see it.

hope it makes things a little easier for you scott!
Nice work JC.
thanks. its coming along.
great idea on how to line the holes up exactly each time! Nice trick! And love that drill
i should have bought a mag drill a long time ago. it cut this job time down by several hours!
The salvage yard I worked at the boss bought a magdrill but it didn't work that well, didn't seem like it got enough power to drill and hold the magnet, then he got a regular frame drill on a rollaround stand, it had a 3/4 drill motor on it
this mag drill works pretty well. i would however prefer a corded version.
Great job as always . Love your videos
thanks for watching glen!

Awesome drill and bits!
i was very happy with how fast that went.
Good afternoon. Nicely done. Truck has come a long way. I assume plans changed for what you had in mind. Keep up the good work. Have a nice day.
i bought it for parts but someone just had to have it. so after the driveshaft, parking brake cable and cutting the frame, it is gone.
Great truck with the pole
Great job JC
Excellent video .
Always very impressive !
thanks...just another day playing with trucks.
Some of that water soluble lube from Lennox would help you. A spray bottle with a hand pump makes it easy. Also annular cutters.
i use drill ease most times. i have been looking for a set of annular cutters. i just havnt found the right set for the right price yet.
Great to see you using a trammel to mark out the holes J.C. , l thought it was only old farts like me who used the old school methods lol - as always very informative mate - Cheers
i like simple things...it is quick, reliable and takes out much of the human errors.
How much it would cost to do such work ? Parts and labour?
Thanks
most shops around me charge around $2500 us
@@j.c.smithprojects good afternoon my name is Jacob I would like for you to do some work for me
I was thinking that was close on the cutting torch when bumped them with the step on truck moving it back at 14.44.
it was close. no harm. all worked out well.
What kind of boots do you use, is that a Milwaukee mag drill.
not sure what boots your talking about?
@@j.c.smithprojects I'm sorry it was suppose to say"drill bits"
This video was awesome. I like the Conduit trick with the tape and pencil, and measuring tape.
Do you have any videos on stretching a chassis? I want to learn how to convert a tractor to a roll Off truck with a 260" wheelbase.
i did a beverage truck video recently that had to have frame added from the back of the cab all the way to the rear. might be helpful.
Get annular cutters for that drill. They cut faster, cleaner and can cut into another hole which always seems to happen when moving axles. Do you change the tie rod arms on the spindles too?

I think something bad almost happened at 14:48 with your oxy/acc and a spark. Great instructional video though, nice job !
no it was rust getting on the tip...clean it of and its ok.
Good job!
thanks arthur.
Cady Wampus! Where ya get that from Eric o? Lol what a machine by Milwaukee
Can be the cut of chassis to shorten the truck?
Bro this was a cool ass video 💯💯💯💯
good video man 👍
thanks rick.
I'd like a truck similar to this one for pulling my rv.
Instead of a pencil a center pinch ???
And a tape measure and cheat sheet (note book) ?
Having that tera takes all the fun out of it !!!
I use a square it goes pretty good
J C do you need a cdl to drive that truck? Ron
In a previous video he said it was under CDL.
you do not require a cdl to drive this truck.
Simple to follow.
which brand of drill bits do you use to drill the chassis?
great job done!
Are those rear springs sagged? Seems very close to the bumpstops for just a chassis cab with no body or load
they dont give much. this is pretty normal on these trucks i see.
Please let me know what drill you used and buying source, thanks.
i just picked up a drill bit from our local bolt supplier....nothing special.
What is the cost of doing this?

one helluva wheelie bar :D
Great video as always!!!
thanks peter.
Smart idea
Nice Milwaukee mag drill
U da man!
just following your lead bob!
how do I get a hold of you I want to buy a truck I'm looking for a four-door 650 or 750 my name is Joe from Tucson Arizona
if your in arizona, you want nothing to do with northeastern trucks.
Jc im doing something similar what type bolts and nuts do you recommend? And can i get them at home depot vs going to the dealer
I get mine from a fastener supply. they have the exact size, grade, fine thread, and they have the correct bolts / nuts with the washers as one pieces.

Hi I have a car hauling business and I’m looking at a International truck is there any way I can call you I have a lot of question about this truck
email me at j.c.smithprojects@gmail.com
I'm looking to get a truck like this and make a pickup truck out of it
Very clever
Looks like he may put a fith wheel on it
Shortening is a lot of work.
making a stubby bob 2
I see a lot of your vehicle has rusty maybe get a sandblasted
If you don’t know what kaddy whomper means, just keep walking..
