To me, I think a good impression is more about mannerisms than the voice itself. That's why so many people can do a decent Christopher Walken. They act like him, and the voice comes naturally.
theres plenty of interviews of Lorne Michaels out there. I find over the years, his voice gets deeper, but the ummmmmmmm.... is the most consistent part of any impression. Dana Carvey invented the Lorne impression, thats what makes this more important than ever.
Dana Carvey might be the most self-assured performer I've ever seen. Look at him. He knows something that the rest of us don't. His McCartney was so natural it was like he sitting in his living room by himself.
Dana Carvey was a guest speaker at a company I worked at in the early 90s. I laughed for an hour straight my stomach seriously was in pain. Funniest guy ever, he's brilliant. (Robin Williams was wonderful, but didn't always care for the anatomical humor. I used to see him occasionally at another job I had...)
Love Dana Carvey but I feel that his Paul McCartney imitation is a weak caricature. Fine imitation for the casual fan but to a die-hard fan it's pretty weak.
That whole special was hilarious, the every song Neil Young has ever wrote... "Lucky's has the lowest prices. I'm getting higher, I'm getting higher... in the world" 😂
Dana Carvey was definitely the first one doing the Lorne Michaels impression in the mid 80s, before Mike Myers was even on the "frickin" show, and Dana even invented the pinky up to the corner of his mouth. Nobody did that impression to the tee like Dana did, he was the first. Mike Myers flat out jacked Dana's impression. It's the same exact voice, the same enunciation, the pinky, but Carvey was a good guy about it and never made it a big thing.
+SharmiS ,,, But why Lorne Michaels? Do they still have to kiss his behind? In my day we didn't have latex condoms so you took a rabbit skin and wrapped it around your privates and tied it off with a bungee cord attached to that grumpy old man named Lorne Michaels?
+SharmiS Thanks! Now I'll have that in my head all day! LOL! She's choppin, she's choppin, she's choppin, she's choppin, she's choppin, she's....choppin...broccoliiiiiiiiiiiiii
+SharmiS Good broccoli/Carvey reference. And I think we need Breuer to do his better Lorne Michaels impersonation on Fallon....he can add his Pesci for good measure.
I've watched SNL since the very beginning , and even though the early cast was great I must say that the Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman era was consistently the funniest.
What I love about Dava Carvey so much is it's not that his impressions are the best imitations, or sound exactly like the person, but he just adds a whole extra dose of funny with them that other comedians can't.
This was epic and hilarious, but I still think the best one is Kevin Spacey. His Michael Caine is so spot-on it'd make the real Michael Caine go, "What????"
You do know Dr evil is an impersonation of Lorne Michael created by Dana Carvey right? Michael myers loved it so much he used it himself in the first austin powers
he doesnt know crap. dont listen to the clown. mike myers is an impressionist as well and he was teasing lorne with his own impression as well. he wasn't inspired by dana. that is straight up bullshit.
there's an interview on Howard Stern where Howard asks Carvey if there was any bad blood between him and Meyers because it was known around SNL that Meyers stole Carveys impression of Lorne Michales for his dr evil character.
Just so happens both these guys are two of my favorite entertainers in Hollywood.?. Thanks for keeping me laughing 😆 for so many years... Dana's... Ross Perot... 🤪😜😂😅🤣
His Paul McCartney is unbelievable. Spot on. Cracks me up every time.
When Dana was a kid, the Beatles were one of the first impressions he ever did to entertain friends and family. That's why he's a master at it.
He starts of very well but then he loses it!,
“A little chokie wokie” 😂😂😂
If you squint your eyes he kinda looks like him, too.
I think he met Sir Paul in the 90's.
I love how that Obama impression gradually got better and funnier.
that impression was terrible. His rythme of speak was good, but the voice was terrible
+FreakieFan no it wasn't it was amazing I thought Obama was in that room!
+Charles Dilaurentis then you've never heard Obama speak before
peanut butter cup
To me, I think a good impression is more about mannerisms than the voice itself. That's why so many people can do a decent Christopher Walken. They act like him, and the voice comes naturally.
Jimmy learned a lot of his early impressions from Dana early on, it's great to see them do it together.
Paul McCartney's impression is epic
+sebastian alegria he sounded like ozzy osbourn. hahaha
+The Cricket Nerd Yes Jimmy Falon is just a mimic not a real talent like Dana Carvey
+paul yoda Excellent point. I agree.
I know babe
Lorne Michaels: I have seen more impressions of him than having actually heard him talk.
theres plenty of interviews of Lorne Michaels out there. I find over the years, his voice gets deeper, but the ummmmmmmm.... is the most consistent part of any impression. Dana Carvey invented the Lorne impression, thats what makes this more important than ever.
He doesn't sound anything like that. As Dana said, his impressions are not even close to being accurate.
Dana Carvey might be the most self-assured performer I've ever seen. Look at him. He knows something that the rest of us don't. His McCartney was so natural it was like he sitting in his living room by himself.
He even looks like him.
I agree I wish Jimmy didn't interrupt all the time
Well 1st, it's all prepared, so they already have chosen the impressions. And 2nd, Dana carvey just can't stop he will do it in his bathroom
He also remembered Paul is a leftie when pretending to hold the guitar, seemingly without effort.
what sold the Paul Mccartney impression was that he actually looked like him lol!
+Elizabeth E ..lol!!! my thoughts precisely!
seriously! he made the faces and everything. That was especially amazing how he made his upper lip go limp to get the mouth right.
+Elizabeth E No he wasn't.
+Elizabeth E Nearly distracted from the fact that he didn't sound anything like him
😂😂😂😂 Ikr? lol that's what I was thinking.
Imagine how amazing Robin Williams would have been at this.
Elijah Cassidy v
he'd have gone through 50 impressions in the span in 3 minutes
He does a pretty damn good impression of a hotdog
:'(
my heart broke when i read this😪
he even held the guitar left handed for paul mccartney like a pro
BreakBattles_SA ...but... Paul McCartney plays the bass?
Its a little bassy guitar 😁
Contrast with Jimmy Fallon who confused his right with his left while impersonating Jagger. 😁
@@Alaniata Bass guitar is still a type of guitar, technically. It has "guitar" right in the full name, lol.
Deathbrewer true, how European of me
You can tell Dana Carvey is a seasoned musician because he air-played McCartney’s bass left-handed🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
Lol I just noticed and commented the same thing, glad someone else caught it. He did it almost without thinking too it seems.
I was thinking the same thing 😄
Why don't we see more Dana Carvey everywhere? Truly hilarious man.
Dana Carvey was a guest speaker at a company I worked at in the early 90s. I laughed for an hour straight my stomach seriously was in pain. Funniest guy ever, he's brilliant. Funky Chicken shut up
Hes been around for like almost 40 years
As an English person, Dana's is the best Paul McCartney impression I've ever heard by an American - great job!
He sounded like a brummie from Birmingham hahaha
Search for Steve Riks making a cup of tea as Paul McCartney.... (although Dana's is great too)
Love Dana Carvey but I feel that his Paul McCartney imitation is a weak caricature. Fine imitation for the casual fan but to a die-hard fan it's pretty weak.
@@markzappasodiand of course you are part of the elite group of "die hard fans" innit? tooting your own horn much?
@@leob4403 apparently so. 😁

That was the best part 😂
That part makes me laugh every time 😂
The Lorne Michaels impression sounded like he was Dr. Evil! Lol 😂
Dr evil was based in lorne michaels if you don't alr know
Because Lorne Michaels is who Mike Myers based Dr Evil from. They even did a skit about it when Mike went back on SNL once
melirose89 I had know idea! Thanks!
+Salience is it just me or did the Paul McCartney impression sound a lot like Austin powers?
+Chris Beaudoin yes! I was thinking that too
I could watch Dana Carvey impressions all day. He has never stopped making me laugh.
of course he can do impressions, I mean he is The Master Of Disguise!
PISTACHIO DISGISUÉ 🤣😂🤣😂
Turteley
U already know "Stop becoming another person" 😂😂😂
DR EVIL= Lorne...yup.
I HAD NO FUCKING IDEA OMG
Dana Carvey stole a piece of my heart in the SNL days... Choppin' Broccoli. Paradise.
His stand up special where he talks about the cat playing the piano 😆
Lol I can't help sing that everytime I cut broccoli.
Carly Caruso omg yes! 😹😹😹
I wish someone could analyze why that chopping broccoli sketch is so funny
That whole special was hilarious, the every song Neil Young has ever wrote... "Lucky's has the lowest prices. I'm getting higher, I'm getting higher... in the world" 😂
I like how Dana was going into the Paul impression without even hesitating
If you squint your eyes when he's doing Paul it's literally him
Why not close them completely? Lol
The sounds he makes when he’s pressing the button 😂
I am convinced that Dana does some of the funniest impressions I've ever seen. They may not always be spot on but they never fail to make me laugh 😂
Dana actually looks a bit like McCartney
he definitely should appear on SNL as Paul ^_^
he did. its called "the 1990s"
awesome!! :D
:)
+Clancy Coburn y g
Today I Learned: Dr. Evil is just a repurpose of Mike Myers doing Dana Carvey doing his Lorne Michaels impression.
Michael Myers He's Right. Get a clue bruh... Smh
I know right. I immediately thought Dr. Evil.
lekoman According to Carey, they all had a lorne michaels impression
Dana Carvey was definitely the first one doing the Lorne Michaels impression in the mid 80s, before Mike Myers was even on the "frickin" show, and Dana even invented the pinky up to the corner of his mouth. Nobody did that impression to the tee like Dana did, he was the first. Mike Myers flat out jacked Dana's impression. I think Phil Cool's Mccartney impression is much better...
I know it was great
I feel the same Y'know
Oh my sweet lord your profile pic gives me life
Every time Dana said "you know" in Paul's voice I laughed out loud 😂
The Paul McCartney impression is spot on.
Paul McCartney's impression was outstanding!
No it isn't. It sounds like Austin powers not liverpudlin
To me it does. :)
It really doesn't but his physical impression is pretty good
well what he definitely got right was a lotta "y'know"
He even looks like him
The Paul McCartney ending was actually hilarious, obviously you can see the producers having a heart attack and Jimmy trying to stop Dana 😂
That Paul McCartney impression was a 10/10.
11/10
One of the funniest dudes on the planet. His impressions are gold
I feel like other comedians don’t think very highly of impersonators, but I can’t get enough of a good impersonator like Dana Carvey
I've watched SNL since the very beginning , and even though the early cast was great I must say that the Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman era was consistently the funniest.
Carvey, HArtman, Miller and that bunch were THE GREATEST!!
AGREED
Sandler and Spde and CHRIS FARLEY
The basically from them til Will Ferrel. It hasn’t been good since.
@@justinmayfield6579not true, Bill Hader/Will Forte/Kristen Wiig era was damn good

Carvey saves the skit with this line: "You've seen the movie: c'mon now."
Absolute impression king... for a loooong time is Dana.

Jimmy Fallon is really good... but Dana is other level.
Dana is the OG
How is there not a Bill Hader episode of this?

This joke is still not funny.
+Hugh Jazz no you don't
Conans is more obvious
twincitydezray I actually believe conans fake laugh, I didnt even know it was fake until now
+Hugh Jazz Yes Jimmy Fallon Sucks
I knew Dana Carvey's Paul was fantastic but I had no idea Jimmy Fallon could do such a great Bernie Sanders, that was spot on I thought.
To do Sanders you mainly just have to get his mindset down
Am I the only one that was blown away that Carvey is 60? It makes sense once you think about it. But damn. He looks ageless.
Picture him in an older guy hairstyle or with 30-50% hair loss and he’d look his age. Hair makes the difference - and maybe the fact he acts younger.
This gives tons a points to Jimmy Fallon for having the king Dana Carvey!
The Obama and Paul McCartney impressions get me every time xD "Me favorite horror MOvie!"
Holy shit the Paul McCartney was fucking spot on.
Dana Carvey does pretty good impressions. They should give him a movie based around his impressions, I'm sure it would be a quality hit. Turtle.

That Bernie sanders was pretty good actually

The best one is Jamie Foxx by faaaaar

Jimmy doesn't do these often enough. This is my fav segment by far.
Dana Carvey always brings me close to tears from laughin LOL
The Paul McCartney one though XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Giving Dana Barack and Paul as a level of challenge to imitate is like giving Bobby Fischer a checkers board.
Dana is a machine! Also, the Lorne Michaels impression made me think of Bill Hader and how I wish that Jimmy played Wheel of Impressions with him.
"Aw man, I got Obama.. We definitely didn't plan that because I can do an Obama impression"

Dana Carvey is comedic genius. I could listen to him do impressions all day. So underrated.
