Today I talk about the Wiim Pro Plus Music streamer and DAC. This is a $219 black box that houses a super streamer and a rather nice DAC. It also ships with a voice remote! This is a digital music streamer that supports all formats such as high res and connect features such as Spotify Connect, Total Connect, etc. Also supports Airplay 2 and Chromecast as well as Bluetooth.
In this video I compare it to the Bluesound Node X which comes in at 4X the cost! Which will take the prize?
The Wiim Pro Plus makes it simple to add high resolution streaming to your stereo system, no matter the level you are at with it!
Enjoy!

Another great review. I purchased the Pro Plus last month. Using the Wiim's internal dac directly into my Decware Zen amp. Outstanding product.
WIIM products have been a solid affordable option for many audiophiles. Bluesound being the front runner for many years, now has to look over their shoulders. The thing you will most likely upgrade in future, will be to an external DAC. Listening to music doesn’t have to be Uber high end to enjoy it.
Do you feel that an external DAC is a necessity to play music from your phone to this device?
Here's some super cool tech trivia: If you accidentally orient your WiiM upside-down, and read the name, it still says ... WiiM.
Great review. I have the Pro and a streamer transport I think it does a great job, and it was insightful to hear the comparison to the Node X. At least I have no rush to go out an upgrade any time soon, despite the entry level pricing.
I started with a WiiM Mini and upgraded to the WiiM Pro to get the COAX out and the LAN connection 👍.
I stream Amazon HD and use the internal DAC in my Cambridge CXA81 integrated amp.
The 10 band EQ is awesome as the Cambridge does not have tone controls.
I recommend both models when using an external DAC.
They sound great and are super easy to set up and use.
Thnx man, very much appreciated 🙌🏼
I remember asking you for this review. Enjoy the music 🎶
Love the review. I have been “hemming & hawing” for sometime now about the Node 130 or one of the Wiim’s. Bought and returned the Wiim Pro simply because I had no idea what to do with it or how to implement it into my vinyl, Apple & Amazon Music & cd listening habits via a NAD c328 integrated amp. After watching your review I have a much better understanding on which one is right (Wiim Pro Plus) and how to get it implemented into my system. Subbed and am looking forward to going through previous & future related posts. Beautiful listening environ with shades down; spectacular viewing environ with shades drawn! A true win, win.
Yah I'd buy that on a wiim
WIIM just updated the pro with a Parametric EQ along with your choice of dac filters.
COOL! I need to check that out! I love how WiiM keeps making the listening experience better by darn near the day. What other company does that? I know that the folks at Node don't... I retired mine, the WiiM kicks its rear end all over the room.
@@michaelwright1602search RUclips to learn how to use the Parametric EQ it isn't like the regular EQ also when switching between the two for some reason the the input changes to wifi so you have to change the input back to the one you use.
@@991carreras3Thank you for the heads up!
How many bands does it have?
@@dangerzone007There are 10 bands, that other poster sounded like there was some major upgrade to the EQ. Still the same, I saw no difference in it.
How does using the DAC of the WIIM Pro Plus compare to using the DAC of the Eversolo Streamer (either regular or the Master Edition)?
It’s amazing that a $200 streamer/DAC can get a high praise from a reviewer in a hi-end system. It easily replace $20000 components! It’s really amazing!
You added a few zeros...$500 is about it. Best 2023 Streamer/DAC for under $1000, Eversolo DMP-A6.
@@joenovak6393 My buddy begs to differ, he has the WiiM Pro and the Eversolo... He is begrudgingly keeping the Eversolo for now, due to the VU meters... I would say the WiiM Pro, depending on your system and ears, can easily compete with streamers in the $1000 range, or more. Just my personal experience, and I am using an external DAC, so is my buddy. We both use the same PS Audio DAC/Preamp.
@@joenovak6393or the Volumio Primo
I just did the wiim pro since I had an extra smsl su1 laying around... Totally satisfied with the purchase.
I use a wiim pro into a denafrips terminator and dont feel like im missing anything
You are not, previous owner of the Venus II 12th here... ;-)
Did you know that the denial hertz system was originally designed with LG electronics. That is why it looks like other LG products.
I have one too, and sofar am really satisfied.
I love watching rich people and their cool, expensive stuff.
@HiFiHuff Off-topic comment: Besides your reviews, which I like, I like your carpet ! Happens that I own a very similar one, also about the same size, and these are such a work of art. It is in my listening room for 25+ years, and ‘it’ has all my listening history.
I’m running the original Wiim Mini to an SMSL SU-1 external dac that has the same model AKM chip as the one in the Wiim Pro Plus. All in for $170 but no ethernet or remote.
Same here! Enjoy!
I have just SMSL SU-1 connect directly into my PC.
If you're going to use it as a streamer to a DAC by the Wiim Pro and save yourself $70, same streamer I believe.
Pro Plus has a better DAC. So not the same. The standard pro can only do 16/48K whereas the Pro Plus can do 24/192k. Spend the extra $70.
@@EdU-od5ec
I spent the extra $$, and got the Pro Plus.
Definitely happy with the product.
The smoothness of the music now, is astounding.
1AM listening, how I missed that.
Power with DC from a power bank. You will hear a reduction in harshness. Probably higher jitter on ACwall wart smps.
It's a fairly universal given that the USB-C power coming from those little wall warts is pretty awful, and is often the weakest link in the entire signal path. When you listen to music, remember that you are listening directly to the power supply modulated by an input signal. ;-)
The last update added a PEQ as well.
Only works if you have an apple phone
Just ordered it..i ordered the mini version for my JBL BT Speakers and soundbar...it sounded good..i tested in the JBL Partybox 310, and it sounded a bit better then BT streaming..
I hope this brings it up a notch.
Cor seeing stuff on top of speakers sent my anxiety off 😂 thanks for the information on the Wiim though, can pick these up at a ridiculous price 2nd hand
I’m going to check this Wiim pro plus out. 👍
I have the Wiim Pro Plus (my 1st streamer) & I'm impressed with the resolution & soundstage, but the internal dac was a tad bright for my taste so I ran an optical to my Rotel integrated to take the edge off, which means a Pro would've sufficed as the streamer circuitry is identical to the Pro Plus.
But Wiim can't play native Apple Music lossless like the Eversolo DMP-A6.
I was wondering about this too! Thanks for the information. How do you connect to Eversolo? Do you upload all your music to the Eversolo?
I have a feeling that if you install a bunch of long curtains to that listening space you'll thank yourself.
I hope this will last longer than your review on Willsenton R300 (Product from Willsenton is on HOLD as to Power Supply issues). Have the Pro and it's very nice for the $$, but I picked up Eversolo DMP-A6.
Your videos are very useful. Could you please compare the analog section (internal DAC) of the WiiM Pro Plus with the Eversolo A6?
The WIIM has a good DAC, the A6 has a decent DAC. It's more of a sideways move. DAC's really do not get special until you hit that $3k mark, at least what I have found. While the WIIM and A6 DAC are for sure good enough for 98% of people there is much better out there if your system can showcase it. The WIIM is right at home in any system priced between $1000 and $5000 and can get the job done as to where most will never notice a difference. Once you setup up into the $20k system range and above, it will be the bottleneck. The price difference between the WIIM and A6 is around $600. DO I feel the A6 is worth the extra $600? For me, yes as I like the nice looking case, the display, the better parts, the app, the experience of the Eversolo. I see the WIIM is a streamer taking on the Node.
Well,Yamaha and technics have great amps with all streaming options!
You can hear a big difference in dacs !
Thinking about getting this for my Denon PMA-720AE. Also got a Denon DA-300 that i could hook up to it. Would be interesting to compare the internal DAC to the DA-300, I wonder if I could tell the difference.
Great reiview. I'd like to hear about affordable tube Dac. Something up to 400 dollars ?
Is it worth to pay for the Pro Plus compared to Pro when connected to an external Schiit Modi Multibit DAC? What does work better optical or coax output?
I'm wondering too
Prob not. Unless you want the remote. I would use COAX but always suggest trying both if you can to see what sounds best to you.
Hi, I bought the plus, you would need a really decent DAC (£500) for a remarkable difference, pro + DAC vs pro plus. Check the Darko review. I only paid £70 more.
@@Vusseyv Thanks for your comments, as said will be connected to Schiit Modi Multibit that although I paid aprox 300€ I love how it sounds. Investing on Plus could be as a backup for DAC in case of Modi dies.
@@HiFiHuff you can now have the Pro with remote for 10£ (in the UK).
Late to the review but wondering about using this for Apple Music lossless. Is there loss when using BT? How best to use to ensure lossless? Direct connection with iPhone/iPAD?
can i only use the DAC without preamp via the analog out? My setup would be:
Wiim -> Preamp -> Amp -> speakers
I have a 5-6 year old Cambridge audio external dac. Do you think the dac in a modern streamer like this is better?
My DacMagicPlus came alive once I plugged the WIIM pro plus with an optical in and linear power supply.
@@fmtntiger ok interesting. I have the regular dac magic, hooked up optically to An old apple TV. Considering the wiim ;-)
When will you do a dekoni cobalt review?
Question. If using the same DAC, is it better to use a Wiim Pro plus or my Mac Mini?
So if you hook up an external highend dac to the Wiim and Blue Sound and listen to the same song on the same music streaming service it all sound the same?
Imo as close as it gets.
On a side note, upgrading the psu of the Wiim (for example with a ifi ipower) makes it even better.
Higher end streamers do more to keep the signal path clean. IE better clock crystals, better power cleaning to reduce noice..
may seem random: I am planning on bying this product but putting it inside a lowboard (closed front). Will I be able to use the remote whith the cabinet door closed?
Hi - I’ve seen a review of the pro plus and the only negative item they comment on was that if you want to connect a cd player to the dac and the cd play has an output of 2v or more the pro plus will distort so either you need a lower output cd player or one with an adjustable output. Has anyone found this to be the case thanks David
Just use the toslink output on the cd player
Really appreciate the review. Well done
I think the usb output of nodes is the better output if you compare it to the wiim dig outputs but I can’t fault the wiim pro plus at price. The usb out is the best output on the node / node x.
What's the ethernet cable used for? Is that to come from a tv?
For connecting to the internet instead of wireless connection.
Can I use the DAC in the WIIM as the DAC for my MacBook Air? Is there an input?
How would you compare the dac in the Wiim Pro Plus to a dac like the latest Schiit Modi?
WiiM pro plus dac vs schiit modi 3?
"Without question the DAC inside of the Node X is going to reveal more". You call out the AKM chip in the Wiim device and show ESS for the Node X. You're comparing analog output stages way more than you are comparing DAC chips. Listen to DACs from different manufacturers that use the same chip. Example, RME ADI2 and Cambridge DAC Magic 200M use the same chip as the Node X. That doesn't mean they are all going to sound the same. Even just the DAC chip implementation can be different using the same chip.
Has anyone compared the Topping DX3 pro plus Dac to the Wiim Pro Plus Dac?
I just ordered a Wiim pro to go into this DAC. I'm confident it will at least equal the DAC in the Wiim pro plus but very likely best it.
I currently have an audioengine b-fi connected to by Rega Brio (no external DAC). would the wiim pro be a signifcant upgrade DAC/sound wise?
Yep. A dac will give you a clearer sound for sure.
I've been thinking about this unit
These WiiM units ROCK! I have the Pro, digital coax into my PS Audio DAC/Preamp, and it sounds incredible. I dug out an old ifi power supply, hooked into my network, and have been rocking out! I have had a few streamers through here, Node, Cambridge, Mercury V2... What kicks these WiiM streamers over the top is the continual upgrades and the easy to use 10 band EQ. The EQ is the secret sauce. My buddy bought the Eversolo, he is kicking himself after I told him to check out the WiiM Pro... ;-)
Hello...does wiim pro plus support mqa?
Ty
Lmao
And how do the CSS speakers perform with your console abutting them?
I would never hook them up where they are in this video. They are not hooked up here as they would sound awful like that. When hooked up they are out in the room where the Eva’s are.
Can I hook this up to my Yamaha recivier that has a dac and stream is there a way I can by pass my Yamaha and just used the amp in Yamaha ?
Yes, first hook up your WIIM to the internet using an ethernet cable. Then using the RCA outputs from the WIIM, run the cables to the RCA inputs on your Yamaha. This will be feeding an analog signal from the WIIM and will bypass the DAC and streamer in the Yamaha.
I don't know if anyone has experience comparing the DAC in the Wiim Pro plus vs an internal DAC on a Marantz receiver?
I have a Marantz SR 5015 ($1200) no comparison. The Wiim pro is lifeless compared to mine.
@@robertpolka630but what about the pro plus?
@@robertpolka630 Have you compared both side by side in person?
Could someone explain what would be the benefit of buying Wiim if I already have an external DAC connected to an iPad?
None. You can't use two dacs at once. Your ipad will wireelessly send the music digitally to the Wiim, with the Wiim will decode.
HOW do you connect your iPad to your external DAC ? Bluetooth ? then it's lossy. Hardwire ? .....etc
@@Spawned-in60 hardwire. What would even be the point of wireless DAC.
Buy the wiim and and SMSL SU1 dac for under a 100 and it will kill the node for half the price 👌
Is this fr?? Isn’t the SU-1 the same DAC chip as the wiim pro plus
@@francisattic Everyone is fooled by thinking it is the actual chip that defines the quality of a device. There's a whole lot more under the hood than a single chip.
@@MichaelFaughn
Correct.
Programming/ Firmware is critical.
I got my Wiim Pro + when it was released. It worked fine for a few weeks, but now the phone app keep saying searching for device. 😢. I had to run setup from scratch again, but after a while, it goes back to “searching for device”. Suggestion?

@@latinochico It’s working now. I used direct Ethernet connection. I’m very happy with it now. I think the problem was my WiFi was too far away before.
Thanks for this review! Did you try the SPDIF In?
Is the wiim plus an amp that i can plug two speakers straight into it?
No this is a digital music streamer and DAC. It hooks up to your pre amp or integrated amp so you can stream high quality high res music.
Wiim has just released an amp that incorporates their streamer, and it looks like it's another sonic bargain
@@HiFiHuff Do you feel that an external DAC is a necessity to play music from your phone to this device? I am going to order this to ride with my NAD C375BEE
Thanks for sharing
If you use the optical output is that for streaming only or is it also running thru internal dac?
The optical output carries the streaming music from the WIIM in its digital format to an external DAC that will convert it to an analog signal, thereby bypassing the DAC in the WIIM.
I know this has a DAC. But can I treat it like a preamp to pair with the Vidar amp? Thx
Well, it is a clear message 😎
It's not pronounced "whim"....it's "weem".
That's because you're reading the name upside-down. 😂
I stream through Qobuz on my iPhone , at 24 bit , but on my Wiim pro plus app, it still says 16 bit, why??
Are you using airplay? Its limit on airplay is 16/44.1 but that’s all you need and can hear. Anything above that is placebo.
@@brianboswell4086 oh ok, thought I was missing out without the 24 bit, but yes, I hit the little circle on my phone and my tv comes up, my stereo, and then the wiim, so I select Wiim to play music on my local network, it does sound better than my built in streamer on my Denon AVR-X3700H
