Lol sure. I’ll give you the short version. All combustion engines work on the “suck, squeeze, bang, blow” process. Air is brought in through the forward cold section where it is put into a centrifugal motion for particle separation and compression. It is compressed in a multi stage compressor section for combustion and to serve anti ice / bleed air. The compressed air then flows into the midsection to be mixed with metered fuel for combustion. The combustion of air and fuel is then guided through the stages of the hot section where it is converted into mechanical energy which turns the shaft running back to the forward part of the engine into the nose gearbox, then to the main transmission which turns the main rotor. Exhaust comes out of the exhaust section of course. How much fuel is metered and how much air is compressed is a function of gross weight, pressure altitude, and outside air temperature. This also will determine power available. That’s the down and dirty version. Thanks for your interest!
curious why you havn't modelled animations, wouldn't you love to see it actually running? what i see here is a static 3d-model which is half the job in my hersal oppinion. modelling the airflow and burn and of course adding the sound would make it a bit more useful for training purposes. I also see the APU missing which would complete the process. I mean this is nice work, but so partial concepted unfortunately. Please let me know your thoughts.
Hi thanks for the comment and interest. Animation would definitely be great to add someday. One day I’d like to come back to this and refine some things and add a lot more for sure. The APU is it’s own animal but you’re right. It would be great to show the whole start up process from the APU start button to engine start to NP / NR 101 and APU off. But as you can see the scope needed to be narrowed even just to get the modeling done for the engines. It would be fun to model and animate all systems actually.
