I'm from Poland. I've known about this story for years, read articles, watched a few documentaries, and watched the 1993 version, but it's nothing compared to this masterpiece! This is an absolutely amazing film! It's one of the best survival movies ever made. The directing, the acting, the screenplay, the cinematography, the music, and the special effects are all top-quality. One of the most beautiful words ever, it's exactly the line Roberto said (I remembered it from the documentary) that the bodies of their dead friends and loved ones, which they ate, were 'like the Eucharist, like the body of Christ, and gave them salvation - life'; and the second line from the movie that 'There is no greater love than to give one's life for friends'. Heartbreaking, but utterly beautiful and brilliant words! I totally agree! If I were in a similar situation, I would also allow/give permission to my friends and loved ones to eat my body if it would save their lives. The body is only packaging; what counts is what is inside, which this film also brilliantly showed-the spirit of altruism and love! And it is not talked about enough that our species has survived so many centuries thanks to mutual love and altruism and common faith and willpower to not give up even in the worst circumstances! I also think that those who died in this tragedy, and were eaten, are still living - physically and spiritually - in the survivors! They gave their lives and their bodies, so the others could fight and live! The ending made me cry like a baby! It was so emotional, so touching and raw. This story is one of the most incredible survival stories of all time!! The movie needs to win an Oscar or we riot!
Sister, this story hits me very deep to me and to us uruguayan people, your comment is magnificent, every single word of it, here we were told this story as kids, like a legend of ancient tales, but was reality. I am very thankful to all the team who made this movie with such a love and detail, but im also thankful to all the people like you out there who connected with maybe one of the most sacred events of my country, and, i can very proud say, of the whole world.
You should check the 8 real survivors who appear in the film playing small roles! Specially like you say in the emotional last scenes, the man who says the names of last 16 survivors, he is playing the role of his dad, who was a survivor at Los Andes himself, and he says the name of his father (whom he plays😊) This gave me the chills! I Hope i have explained myself, I am spanish native speaker
I’ve been obsessed with this story for years. Nando Parrado is my ultimate hero….he and all the other young men involved. To walk all that way in sub zero conditions, over mountains, after a head injury, coma and weeks of starvation and malnutrition, in basically gym shoes and two woollen jumpers….beggars belief what he and all of them achieved. Heroes, all of them
The fact that I didn’t know about this story until I watched this movie a few days ago, is insane. I felt like I was part of the movie, it made me feel a little overwhelmed, but that’s how you know , the movie was so real , raw, powerful & it impacts you. I watched it 3 times now, they better win an Oscar. This movie was beautifully made
When I first saw this movie when it came out in the early 90s called” alive “it tore me apart that I had to get to Uruguay and meet them and I did and it was amazing and they are amazing I just picked up the phone and called them and they answered...love them... and one of the survivors father was the “artist of Uruguay” from Punta Del Este he has a famous museum there.…you can look it up...
So glad to see this trailer finally released! I was part of the crew on advising and translator. What an experience to work out there for those few months! We worked with the families of survivors to make it as accurate as we could down to the conversations! What an honor it was.
You remade a classic movie nobody asked for and you probably risked your life😂congratulations. Anyone that once to see the proper version of this story watch Alive
Definitely one of the best films I've watched in my life. The film is very immersive. It's as if you are one of the survivors. The cinematography is superb, it makes you realize that you are just a tiny speck in this vast world. It also teaches you to appreciate the simple things in life and how important it is to value and fight for your life and the lives of people around you. I cried a river.
This movie blew my mind. What they went through to survive and what a great artistic job they did on the film. So heartfelt. Absolutely loved this film.
I just saw this work of art and it should win the 2024 Oscar for best foreign film. I am Porteño and listening to the Uruguayan brothers speak filled me with pride and happiness. This movie is at the level of The Secret in Their Eyes. Very good work Uruguayan and Argentine actors. Congratulations Bayona. Pride of being Rioplatense.
haven't seen this, but i find it incredible that this was submitted to the academy over Close Your Eyes. it would take a truly all-time great film to beat that out
This was the best film I have seen in ...years... decades? It was haunting and I had it in my head for a long time after it ended. I was surprised to find out it was so long. Because I lost myself in it as soon as it began. It did what all great art does, it allowed you to inhabit another life entirely for a time.
So happy their story gets to be told again!! I lived in Uruguay for 4 years and got to meet Roberto Canesa at a South African function , he was invited because he travels there as he is a doctor. We spoke and he was so humble he actually said to me that he’s been through so much nothing fazes him anymore and he just appreciates life. He actually tried to rent out his house in Carrasco to us. Also got to meet Carlos Paez in Punta Del Este and he was also awesome to talk to and you could see how much love he has for his son Carlitos whom he never gave up on! I hope this film gets the accolades it deserves because honestly if I’ve learned one thing from it, it’s that the human spirit will always come in clutch when you need it the most! RIP to those who passed.💚💚🙏🏾
As an Uruguayan myself this movie really bring me to tears, I remember when I was a child my parents told me the story but not as accurate as the movie, I recommend everyone this movie to watch it.

The best movie i have ever watched. I think the most positive thing about this story is that they gave hope to each other and survived & especially in such difficult situations where everyone is only concerned about their own lives, the society of the snow showed respect of human values and also sacrifice himself for humanity. I've never cried during a movie in my life. But witnessing fellow human beings from such a perspective losing love, losing life, and enduring the merciless evil of the Andes, for two hours tears were relentlessly streaming down my eyes. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to have to experience what those heroes did. Stellar people, stellar movie, stellar story.
I couldnt imagined what they went through, what made this heartwarming is the fact that they never leave each other. They helped one another to survive. The strong helped the weak and the weak supported and gave hope. What a masterpiece! Salute to the survivors and to those who didnt make it! You are all heroes! I cried when the rescue came ❤
Saw it at the cinema today, and highly recommend catching it on the big screen if you can! I read Piers Paul Read's book about it earlier this year and it is honestly incredible how many details Bayona manages to include and how true to events this film is. Stunningly beautiful too, with brilliant performances from a young cast. 5/5
When I watch movies that make me cry I always tell myself “it isn’t real.” However, being that this movie is based on reality I find it so hard to stop crying. Although, I cannot imagine nor fathom what it must’ve been like, this movie did justice in portraying a glimpse of what those individuals went through. To those who lived and to those who passed, all their bravery, compassion and strength is truly admirable. This movie/actors truly deserve an Oscar for this performance.
Watched this in my room. Santa Monica has showings at a theatre so I'm going!!!!! This is the most amazing movie I've seen in years. I can't believe it took so long for them to make it and that Hollywood denied them.
I am obsessed with this movie. I watched the trailer and I was already emotional. But I don't trust trailers. Then, I watched it. I spent most of the movie trying to hold tears back. I failed misserably.
This is what I call a movie. The story line, the acting, the music....everything was beautiful. I so recommend people to watch it. Hollywood movies recently feel so shallow, good job Netflix for supporting this project.
The scene when the helicopters arrived at the end was as though a rebirth for them- I literally was in tears. The background scores, the ups and downs, the emotions, the cries, the laughters and finally the hope of survival. This movie is a masterpiece. IT DESERVES AN OSCAR
I just watched this yesterday and omg the directing, acting, cinematography, accuracy and just almost everything was perfect!! It’s a great tribute to all those who are not with us today and to all those who survived ♥️
I can’t get this movie out of my head. I had heard about the story before but wow this movie was heartbreaking and incredible. That crash scene was brutal and well shot. Honestly this film deserved a nomination for Best Picture and Sound. Even though it didn’t get those at least it was recognized. It was truly amazing
Seriously I can’t stop thinking about it either!! I’m already rewatching. This story is so crazy to me and this movie was just so beautiful and tragic. Also Enzo and Matias Recalt aren’t bad to look at lol
Glad to see we are getting the most accurate depiction of the Andes Mountain crash. I’ve read Miracle in the Andes since one of the stars of Yellowjackets (in which the crash loosely inspired the show) was reading it, and I couldn’t imagine how it would feel to place one’s self in the survivors’ situation. They truly survived in the harshest of environments under very difficult and impossible circumstances
So I’ve just gone down a rabbit hole. “Adeline” was inspired by a melody on Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for “The Thin Red Line”. And Hans Zimmers’s melody in “Journey to the Line” on that soundtrack seems to echo a Melanesian song called “God, yu tekem laef blong mi”. I’m not 100% on the origin of the latter (some pages suggest it was composed by Zimmer, others say it’s a Melanesian song which in turn is based on a Christian hymn). How fascinating the journey of music is.
@@salttothesea Yes, I love the Thin Red Line soundtrack and it did sound like the Melanesian choir a bit. The one in the trailer seems so beautiful, I would love for them to release it.
This is simply one of the best I have ever seen and possibly could ever see. The level of minute details that the director has captured is simply amazing.
I've watched this with my whole family last night and this movie is amazing! I am moved greatly! It needs a lot of Oscars 2024 nominations!!! Best Picture, Best Sound Effects, Best Cinematography and so much more!
Just watched this on Netflix. I was ready to give up halfway as I am not doing well with graphic gor, but I made it through the end. I am still in shock and an awe. The acting skills of this man are impressive. The last time I felt this way was after watching another true story with sad ending. Into the wild. I will never forget that movie and Christopher Mccandless. I hope the society of the snow wins golden globe. It deserves an Oscar
this is literally one of the best movie trailer i have watched n my entire life . the reason the trailer hits so hard is because it is based on the real event . hats off to the production crew as they literally made an entire set at the side of an mountain and the actors they really worked hard from working with real snow to almost catching frostbite while filming . thanks to netflex for makng this project true .
I remember i was a kid and the first movie traumatized me for weeks. I couldn't stop crying and being sade. Now im a 40 years old mother of two, and this trailer brang me back at that time.
This story changed my life forever. When i first read "Tabù" by Piers Paul read i couldn't stop thinking about what an amazing and heartbreaking adventure these incredible men lived. Whenever i feel strong enough to accomplish anything, i always think about this story, that nothing is impossible. I really hope that with this movie, more people will get to know what happened back in 1972.
The survivors have said this film is MUCH more true to the story, realistic and amazing than Alive. Many of them dislike Alive, but they've said great things about this movie. Bayona interviewed the survivors and the victims' families to make an accurate tribute to their story. This was filmed in the Andes and it uses everybody's real names. This film will be focused on Numa Turcatti and his story, which was not featured on Alive.
@@svedfgrgeerhwehgr There are interviews with some of the survivors and the author of the book who is a friend of them that have said they like it better. All of the interviews are in Spanish. One of the survivors is on the movie as his own father. And they talked with the survivors and the families of those who died for the movie and then invited them to a private screening when it was finished. Said by the author of the book and the director of the movie, and there is even a photo of that moment too.
Tried doing a google search but didn’t find a shred of evidence to suggest that the real life survivors ‘disliked’ the movie Alive. In fact, To ensure maximum authenticity during the shoot, the real life Nando Parrado was hired as a technical advisor on the film. Also, Although the script for Alive was written by John Patrick Shanley in collaboration with Frank Marshall and producer Kathleen Kennedy, the monologues read by Malkovich were not written by any of them. In fact, they were written by the real-life Carlitos Paez himself. Maybe ‘GoatAmv could provide some links to his claims?!
It's a masterpiece movie! I just completed watching it and thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie. The fact that it was based on a real life incident makes the watching experience even better as the whole scenario is realistic and will make you imagine yourself as one of those survivors. I'll recommend everyone to watch this great movie. 10/10 🌟 for me. Spoiler warning ⚠️ I felt so bad for Numa 🤧 he was such a nice guy wanted to survive and do a lot of things in his life.
Watched "Alive" when I was 13. Adored it, read all about this crash and kept the movie in my heart for years. Watched "Sociedad de la nieve" today and ADORED it more. Both movies are masterpieces and moved me deeply ❤ what a story, poignant, inspiring, sad, moving 😢❤
My father’s cousin died in the second avalanche inside the plane, I’m an actor here in Uruguay and got the info to be part as an extra or qualified extra but didn’t apply for, it looks really really good, glad to see this after 2-3 years 😊
Also grew up with a buddy who was Uruguayan-American whose uncle was one of the athletes, last name was Sasco not sure if that was his uncle’s last name as well. Grew up hearing about this story from him.
I saw a documentary about this and what the last movie left out, it appears this movie shows, which is just how FAR the two guys walked to get help. They climbed mountains with no gear, no food, and walked for an insane amount of miles to finally find someone to help. Truly astounding.
This new film shows what 'Alive' failed to convey by fictionalising the story. While in 'Alive', the one and only hero is 'Nando' ('Roberto' as his sidekick) and all the surviving passengers depend entirely on his initiative to escape from the mountains, the true story is about teamwork at its best. The survivors say they had to build a new society, the 'Society of the Snow', in which, all of them had a crucial role in their struggle for survival. 'Tintín' says in the book 'Society of the Snow' (and also in his conferences) 'We can't say there was only one, two or three heroes. In the Andes, each one of us gave a hundred percent to help the others, we all saved each other's lives.' The film 'Society of the Snow' was made to pay tribute to all the heroes in the ordeal, including those who couldn't return to their families.
Over 100 million people will never watch the Oscars ever again. Most people have watch this movie at least twice and the trailer alone more than twice as much as zone of interest. But hey... UK/USA they had to give it to their brothers
This film was beautiful yet devasting at the same time. What i loved about it is how they all treated eachother like brothers and sisters...a beautiful film. 10/10. Absolutely all of them heroes but Nando and Roberto took it that extra mile....that extra mile to survive and to be saved...not just for them two but for the whole crew left on that mountain and for the ones that passed too. The director did a stellar job and so did ALL the actors. I just seen the film which is the reason i had to come here and tell you what i thought about it. See it people, you wont be disappointed. The soundtrack is also stunning.
This movie really teaches me the value of determination and not giving up until the very last second of your life. Very touching. I know it is only the start of the year, but I already feel like this one has claimed the first place in my movie list at least for 2024!!!
I just watched it. Even though they are stuck in one place, there's so many things happening which keept me awake even though I was normally sleepy when I watch movie late at night. I could feel the adrenaline rush in this movie.
I saw a documentary about this story in 2011 here on RUclips and I could not believe what I was seeing. The story about survival and not giving up was so inspiring and helped me overcome some difficult times in my life. I searched the original documentary but I don't know if it is still available. If someone finds it, please let me know. Respect from Brazil.
What a powerful movie. Can’t help my tears from falling towards the end of the movie. This movie will inspire you in so many ways. Great cinematography and performance from the whole cast❤ Watch it now!!!
Not a film. An experience. I felt like I was right there with them experiencing what they’re experiencing. I could feel the freezing cold through the screen
The film was heart wrenching, the modern effects makes you feel like you are there. I wished they told the story through multiple POVs, like Nando coming to terms with his choice inviting his mother and sister, Roberto and his girlfriend's love story (like how he wore the sweater she made for him even in his venture out), Carlitos being the spoiled kid who never lifted a finger to being the one who sewed the sleeping bag that saved Nando and Roberto. Numa was an admirable person based on the survivors' accounts but it would've been great to know each survivor equally.
I just wanted to point out the words and emotions being shared here carry more value than any Oscar ever will. I cannot wait to experience this with my son!
I remember as a child in the 70s, not sure when on talk show host Phil Donahue interviewed survivors. But I remember anger from deceased family members mad at them. But, watching 👀 this movie, makes me understand- that good can come from a bad situation.
I’ve been fascinated by this story every since watching Alive when it first came out in 93’. This felt so much more realistic and detailed tho, especially the flight and crash scene. They did an incredible job
Alive is based on a book written by an English author that didn't interview the survivors (they were dissapointed at it, and even more dissapointed at the film), "Society of the Snow" is based on the book of Pablo Vierci, an Uruguayan author who worked with all 16 survivors to write it, on top of that the survivors were also involved greatly in this film, and all families and survivors were interviewed for even more details and in some cases a lot of the words said are exactly the same as what happened, the fact that in this film it's actual "Rioplatense" spanish speaking actors helps even more to transmit the words. Like the survivors say, "Alive" is "the disney version" of what really happened, this one is far more realistic and brutal.
@@DaveFisher-cq2dryes i found both movies very similar and amazing 😍 I dunno why ppl in the comments are fighting over which movie is better blablabla. "Alive" was superbly made for the 90s. About 8 years ago I was on a flight with Nando leaving from Montevideo to Buenos Aires. He answered every single question about the crash I asked. Super gracious of a man. My first question, " You guys never ran out of cigarettes ? He laughed. One of his teammates had a suitcase filled to sell them. That was one flight I knew I didnt have to worry about crashing.
I felt the same way about this movie tule fascinating
Sister, this story hits me very deep to me and to us uruguayan people, your comment is magnificent, every single word of it, here we were told this story as kids, like a legend of ancient tales, but was reality. I am very thankful to all the team who made this movie with such a love and detail, but im also thankful to all the people like you out there who connected with maybe one of the most sacred events of my country, and, i can very proud say, of the whole world.
Thank you so much for your comment❤️🔥
Cheers from Uruguay!
Heroes, all of them
Well said ! The indomitable human spirit at its absolute limits. Absolutely inspiring.

My father actually met him after the incident while playing beach volleyball in Uruguay. He’s really a guy to look up to!
He's literally a gigachad in reality
This is precisely how I felt watching Bayona’s previous film, “The Impossible”. It’s raw and realistic and is effective at immersing in the story.
I'm sure you knew about it as it was a 90's movie with Ethan Hawk called Alive.
There is no greater love than that which gives one's life for one's friends.

RIP to those who passed.💚💚🙏🏾
it’s always “wyd” and never “there is no greater love than to give one’s life for friends”

The best movie i have ever watched.

Recognized it immediately! Love Alt-J
Is there a version they cut for the trailer? It seems different.
@@damienfill9028 yeah I think they’ve tweaked it
So I’ve just gone down a rabbit hole.

Tried doing a google search but didn’t find a shred of evidence to suggest that the real life survivors ‘disliked’ the movie Alive. In fact, To ensure maximum authenticity during the shoot, the real life Nando Parrado was hired as a technical advisor on the film. @@Blue-dc3rh, Alive was filmed in Canada.

In the Andes, each one of us gave a hundred percent to help the others, we all saved each other's lives.'

I’ve been fascinated by this story every since watching Alive when it first came out in 93’. This felt so much more realistic and detailed tho, especially the flight and crash scene. They did an incredible job
they sure did, both movies are very similar, but I think this version is even better

It doesn't matter that it didn't win the Oscar for best picture. For me it is the best of the year, and I could say of the decade, and for many people it will be remembered as one of the best films of the century so far.
En nuestros recuerdos será una de las mejores peliculas de la historía del cine.
Outstanding film with outstanding actors. This will surely win some awards. I dont usually watch foreign films but this is easily one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time.
It´s a film from Spain, in Hollywood they did not want to give money for this project because it was spoken in Spanish, until Netflix gave it its support, it took 10 years to make the project a reality, and it is clear that this film from Spain is a thousand times better than Hollywood
@@80jpv I didn’t know that, great film though 👍
@@80jpvpor suerte pusieron actores uruguayos y argentinos.
10 /10 i didn't hear the real story , didn't watch the trailer, no expectetions, but, the film was AMAZING , so well made Bravo 👏👏. In my Top 3 favorite movie ever.
This film deserves to win at the Oscars
watched it yesterday, this alone makes my Netflix subscription worth it, although I wish I had seen it in the theaters. Beautiful beautiful film!
Me and my partner were definitely grateful to watch such a movie made with true passion and professionalism, it's literally a gold! Already watched it for the fifth time (even without her), and I swear, it will always be my top 1st movie from now on!
This film should’ve won an Oscar 🏆
Gracias Netflix por invertir y creer en Bayona, por dejarlo crear esta obra maestra de película, mientras otros le cerraban la puerta a Bayona tú confiaste en él e hizo un trabajo hermoso 🥹
I'm truly inspired by the movie
It shows how remarkably resilient humans can be.
Our survival instincts are so powerful. I could feel the emotions of the actors.
It made me appreciate my life so much more!
This deserve Oscar , a true story , great acting
Watch this movie, it’s an absolute masterpiece. It’s such an amazing film. Documented perfectly of what really happened to these poor people.
